I think the comic is great. I like how it has long story arcs and I like dereks sense of humor. The only problem is that the comic is done and the writer has been running a new one. Its based on Xbox360 so I doubt we will be seeing it here on this site. |

So I started playing Atlantica last night. I got to lvl 11. I love it! Here are some things I havent figured out yet that maybe some people could answer. 1. What is might for? 2. How do I begin crafting things? 3. How do I know how many "bonus points" my mercs have? (for using growth pots) 4. Is there a limit to how many times I can raise skills using the skill books? 5. When do I start being able to get different classes? 6. My main is an archer, is this a good idea? 7. Why does the gunman feel so useless? 8. How and when can I join the free league? |

I'd really love to give this game a go. Looks like it will scratch that old timey UO itch I've had for years. Would someone whos in beta please send me a code so I can finish signing up?

I have a level 30 sorc and She is a tough class to play alone early on, but when you get your better ice spells kiting is not all that hard. As far as raw damage the sorc has some mechanics that are insane. I've never played with a class my level that can out DPS me. |

Our Frustration With This Industry is Completely Reasonable: From Community Guilds to Community Catastrophes

I admire your consistency, but I do not envy your deep angst (topics by the poster include "if you don't like the game, LEAVE," which is something I totally agree with because not leaving tells developers that you do like the game, or that you are at least dumb enough to keep subscribed to it).
On the contrary, no one is "crying." You are crying about our thinking, and communicating, about the lack of creativity, innovation, and "newness" in the MMORPG industry. We want, indeed expect, a new kind-of MMORPG experience. When we play a "new" MMORPG and the gameplay, content, features, and so forth are substantially similar to all MMORPGs --linear, predictable, no challenge, no community, no exciting content-- we are not "enteratained." We actually have, as self-described "immersion gamers," higher standards, greater expectations, and even more (not less) loyalty to this industry. You probably do not understand us, which is why you fear and are angry with us (telling us to cry a "damn river" and to "grow a set for crying out loud").
And, Sir, I have taken your advice: I have left those games that I dislike. I have not, however, totally abandoned the industry, which is something that I think you are saying . . . in your way of saying. And I do not plan to leave the industry for a very, very long time. I have hope. Until then, you are just stuck with me . . . and people like me that want something
But I think I speak for all of us when I say we make no apologies for it.
Point well made. I was in a pretty bad mood yesterday and was reading alot of self entitled posts. I'll admit I skipped alot of reading on this one to just flare up because of other posts I was angry about. Sorry to be a black mark on this nice post. I didn't realize this wasn't a self entitlement post. Regardless, I do like the exchange of ideas. I think what you are asking for is being given as best as possible by the companies trying to put out MMO's. I really don't think that it is for the lack of trying that we end up with what we do. Unfortunately alot of innovation is rejected and those games don't even live long enough to realize any kind of potential. Something like Auto Assault could have made it in the days when Anarchy Online came out. The same way that Anarchy Online wouldn't make it comming on the market today. It seems the era to do new, inovative and creative games has kind of passed in favor of an era where games are easy to understand and can appeal to a broad audience. The days of the "immersion gamers" was a past thing because it had alot to with what exactly it was to be a PC gamer at the time. This is not to say it couldn't happen again, I am mearly pointing out that we did, in fact, have a time when we were the catered audience. There is a great deal of people who discovered PC gaming through the avenue of World of Warcraft. So this is what this new breed of PC gamer now expects from the MMO genre. It is hard to see this changing soon and by the attempts made recently, such as Tabula Rasa, it doesn't seem like the genre is quite ready for a "new breed" of MMO to eclipse the old ways. Tabula Rasa only barely broke the mold, it was really quite similar to the mainstream MMO's today. |

You know what cry me a damn river. That goes for anyone out there that thinks like th OP. Someone failed to entertain you!? Boo fricken Hoo. What a bunch of self entitled babies. Grow a set for crying out loud and do something you DO like to do. |

Ok heres what we do to end this. Lets have the Pepsi challenge. We will have 10 MMO gamers first play EVE blindfolded and then play Darkfall Blindfolded and then ask them which one is more refreshing. I think this will solve most arguments. |

How fucking dare anyone out there make fun of Darkfall after all Darkfall has been through.! Darkfall lost its aunt, she went through a divorce. Darkfall had two fuckin kids. Darkfall's husband turned out to be a user, a cheater, and now she's going through a custody battle. All you people care about is….. readers and making money off of Darkfall. Darkfall's A GAME! What you don’t realize is that Darkfall is making you all this money and all you do is write a bunch of crap about Darkfall. Darkfall hasn’t performed on stage in years. Darkfall's song is called “give me more” for a reason because all you people want is MORE! MORE-MORE, MORE: MORE!. LEAVE Darkfall ALONE! You are lucky Darkfall even performed for you BASTARDS! Perez Hilton talked about professionalism and said if Darkfall was a professional Darkfall would’ve pulled it off no matter what. Speaking of professionalism, when is it professional to publicly bash someone who is going through a hard time. Leave Darkfall Alone Please…. ! Anyone that has a problem with her you deal with me, because she is not well right now. LEAVE Darkfall ALONE!

And then I get called "son." Anoter MMO board just lame thing to call someone. You don't know how old I am or what gender or anything. Regardless, America is a melting pot thats true and I respect that. Given the number of english speaking people on this board and the language they use besides the words "cheers" or "mate" I belive that alot of this is not genuine and is, in fact, a grasp for some kind of internet superiority. Much like using the term "son." |
|
|
Seriously what the hell is with everyone using the word "mate" these days. I know your not all in europe or australia. I can't stand it. I seems like this horribly childish attempt to make ones self seem more cultured by using key words that aren't even used as much in thier country of origin than people on these boards. And stop saying "cheers!" Wtf is wrong with Americans thinking that there culture is so weak and diluted that they need to borrow from others to seem "more worldly." America is part of the damned world! Stop trying to be British or Australian over the internet. Almost every thread I read has at least one of these if not both. I really hate it. Also no offense to any other countries. I am only referring to idiot Americans in my country. |

So this guy tells me to go back to WoW...
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 3/23/09 12:46:18 PM
...So I did. I was in warhammer and was bummed on the lack of any kind of good PvE and said something about it in chat and they told me to go back to WoW. So on Saturday I re-installed my old vanilla WoW. I don't have any expansions because I left about 3 years ago. I'm actually having a real good time playing this. I was kind of hesitant to belive it at first, but even just the fact that the game is so well put together is something I totally forgot about playing games that just feel kind of clunky and not synced. Its really nice to see lots of people around and it being such an active bustling world. The game just runs so well and I never lag or get glitches. So I guess I'm gonna try and get my first char up to max level. (I never did when it was just vanilla.) Warhammer tought me that I like PvP but not so much when I can't take a break for some good PvE. Vanguard taught me that I really need other people around for a game to feel like a MASSIVE multiplayer game. Tabula Rasa taught me that Richard Garriot has lost his damn mind. UO taught me to love MMO's. Asherons Call taught me to love exploring and going off the beaten path. Now WoW has taught me to not be so elitist that I play games I don't enjoy to feel like im not a WoW kiddie. I say all this because I think alot of people probobly feel the same way and I think alot of people act like these games aren't even about having fun anymore. I think I became one of those people and I kept buying games that weren't fun simply because I love MMOs but refused to be a "WoW player." |

So many gamers these days are just asshats. Pure and simple. This kind of territorial "Bro-ism" comming into MMO games really just sucks. Of course you should be able to talk about games in a video game. You know, like you guys had some common love for video games? But no, that is not the case with alot of gamers today. Its all about the ability to be a jerk via the annonimity of the internet. I got trashed on for asking a question about WAR in WAR general chat. The nerve i know! Why the hell would anyone ask for help in a game with tons of other people around that might know the answer? Honestly I wish MMO's had never got this kind of popularity. You would think it would feed the market and great games would come out full of players looking to have fun together. You would think. |

This is why I enjoy vanguard. You can do the quests but mob grinding works just as well. So I only do big epic type quests with groups and then grind mobs when I don't want to do that. |
