I got into the open beta but I'm now a paying subscriber to fileplanet due to this game,  which for some reason just burns me in all the wrong ways and this article was just salt in the wound.

usually you would take a shower or use some soap  to clean out wounds, not salt

no it will not start early,  the exact start time is supposed to be Thursday May 1st at 9am Eastern US standard time or was it Pacific use standard time. it's one of the two.

I'd refer to AoC and WAR as (possibly) the height of this generation. Still have to see if they live up to it.

Blizzard is working on their Next Gen MMO, and depending on what happens with Darkfall and the Warhammer 40K MMO, those will possibly fall into those categories.

Nothing out there is third generation yet.

But thank you for heralding the ending of an age. I do believe AoC and WAR can be the final dominators at the end of this age of MMO's. If these two succeed like everyone hopes, the players will look for the next age to usher in something new and amazing.

hopefully blizz wont go with the name world of starcraft :P

All games previous to this has may have a few extra bits and bobs but not none so far as i am aware has incorporated all that AOC has.

Some of the outstanding ones include, the new combat system, Mounted combat, Formations, Fatalities, Collision detection, spell weaving to mention but a few.

I think FUNCOM taking all they learnt in AO have/are producing an MMO that is more than the so called WoW clone(read as EQ1 clone)

And will truly be one of the first 2nd Gene MMO, unlike vanguard that simply added weakness's to the combat and thought they were making a 2nd gene MMO lol.

 

 

OK the game has not yet been released yet but by now i feel it is safe to know what is coming and even though some of the things that are featured may not work as intended on day one they will be fixed in due course.

As well as the required balancing of classes that come with PvE/PvP games.

Bugs can be fixed so long as the design of the game is solid.

Future games devs will now have to look at AOC and have to either match or better the feature set in AoC if they want to produce a ground breaking game.

Even if you don't beleive that AoC is a 2nd gen MMO at the very least it is a move in the right direction and finally the genre is moving away from the wow-clone stereotype.

yes it will run with maxed out settings, dx10 and on 2500 by 1600 resolution.  nice job building your system :P

may 1st is the start of OB, but you can register beforehand as i already have, may 2nd is the start of registration for release.

yes, according to gamestop anyways they were told by funcom they are no longer going to make anymore CE's,  Seems as though you can still find them from sites like amazon, and best buy, which best buy will be first come first served on release.  I got my preorder in a few days before gamestop took it down.

you will definately need a new video card to run on anything other than the very lowest settings. even then you may have trouble with your current card

8. yes there is mounted combat for the melee classes, but last i heard range mounted combat for the rangers and caster has been thrown into the recycling bin.

i agree it's a marketing tactic, but it is not a scam.  This is not the first nor last time this will happen, people just need to get over it.

Besides you are paying fileplanet, not funcom, yes fileplanet probably payed funcom for the exclusive rights to host the open beta, and fileplanet will gain money for the subs they got because of it.  But afterall everything now a days is a business, and a business is there to make money.  The only thing i disagree with  about they way the "open beta" is being handle is they just needed to call it something different maybe "pre release beta" instead after all it is not a god given right to have a open beta whether it's free or not.
