You have ONLY one solution just make a player on different servers until you find one that has an active player base of noobs or low level players.

I have gone back to this game so many times, prolly like 7  or 8 imo it really does not matter the population because it is all SOLO game play aside  from the instances.Sure it feels a tad better just seeing other players but if i am just playing by myself it gets boring real fast. Then the game doesn't help with it's solo minded personal stories, everything about the game smells of hangout by yourself.

The next mmorpg i play will have to be 100% a grouping game or i won't be playing anything.

The only mmo I know of that is 100% grouping is D&D Online but I think they relaxed that a bit for the sake of the non-fanatics like you out there.  Good luck finding something you like...

a bunch vs. a few,,is that balanced PVP?

yes, you could get a few kills in those battles, but that stopped, when they FIXED THE GAME

and it didnt exactly help the lonely leveller, when meeting a ganksquad in the levelling process, did it?

the essence of your post is: i liked PVP, when it was broken, and against newbie opponents

This was from awhile ago but the thread's still at the top so...

I did not say that the game wasn't broken in some ways in Vanilla times.  But one way in which the game has been worse since the first expansion:

1 pvp geared character can kill almost any number of non-maxxed characters.  5, 10, 15...  maybe if they formed a raid and the guy stood still for them?  Before the first expac a bunch of lowbies could fight off a max level assassin stomping lowbies (not just because of exploits - gear and stats weren't much higher on most at top level in Vanilla).  Since the first expansion those lowbies need a bodyguard on call because the max level characters became invulnerable Mac trucks.  That disparity killed world pvp in the lowbie areas and I do miss it.  It was an element of leveling and a perk of being on pvp server - much more exciting.

i joined wow at the end of Vanilla, and open PVP was almost dead by then

simply because of the ganksquads

instead of meeting a single enemy of similar level, you would meet 3 enemies , all at 10+ levels more, than you

"get friends, and team up"...we did

but even a full Group of lvl 20+ cant take Down 3 lvl 30+

and having some max level friends guard us , while we level? how user friendly is that?

soon after, i rerolled on a PVE server

so..instead of ganking me, now they can only gank my questgivers

Actually I liked Wow vanilla exactly because a bunch of low levels COULD engage and take out a few higher/high levels.  That ended with the first expansion and the max level raid/wz gear sets but I remember lots of fights in Redridge and Duskwood and some in Southshore where the high levels in their blues and rare purples got stomped hard by lower, even much lower level defenders.  Bear in mind things like sap and sheep lasted 30 seconds + in those days (which was dumb) and was undefendable (also dumb) so level 10s could take max levels out of a fight for a long time if they knew what they were doing.  And the warzone junkies and hardcore raiders were much more rare or nonexistant.  Even long after the warzones were introduced I remember explaining to groups of people how the pvp trinket worked (on a pvp server).  Most players were much less informed than the average player is now; the average player in those days (many of us) did not notice all of the flaws that we call horribly daft gamebreaking oversights nowadays.  That's just how it is.

I have no doubt it's being worked on but I have every doubt that we will ever get to play it.
They both remind me of the B&A sewer talks.

It's an average MMORPG and an average FPS. Nothing really that special. It's an OK game but that's about it.

Average MMO?  There's only one or two like it that I know of.  What do you mean average?  As for the FPS... again, only one or two allow for 50 people to be fighting in the same area for the same objectives.  You may not like it, you may not be impressed, but it's not just another shooter and it's not just another eq clone.

I'm curious, what was the last Sci FI show or movie that had that stand off? I can't think of one off-hand although I am sure I've seen it before.

And contrary to whatever you're experiences may tell you, there are chicks out there that are in a hurry to have sex (some make sure it is with the right guy, some don't). It's ironic that you're complaining that we've seen too many stagecoach standoffs on one hand while also being confused by something that we haven't seen too much of.
The missing chat window is the bad part of the game for me. I don't know how they can fix that with console players running around because they can't all type.

I'm 25 or 30 hours in and I love how much better this is than most mmos - vehicles move fast, critters have AI and attack ranges are long. Also, no trinity. For me this is much closer to a next Gen MMO after EQ1 than Wow or GW2 or SWTOR. Assuming their cash shop doesn't try to nickel and dime me, I'll likely be playing this for awhile.

That is good news.  The first ep had everything I would have asked for in a sci fi show.  I'm not "hooked" yet but I am impressed with everything I've seen so far.

After some investigation, it appears that this is true, but it is not intended. Although we always want to keep the PvP environment competitive even for players not wearing full PvP sets, Partisan and Conqueror should be performing better in Warzones than their PvE counterparts. We will be deploying a fix for this in 2.0.1 which will be coming out on Tuesday.

I hope that alleviates some of your concerns with the issue of PvE v PvP gearing and thank you all for your feedback.

I called it.  At least they're owning the issue, addressing it quickly and trying to fix it which is more than I can say for them about some of their previous efforts with pvp changes.  But still, this update has cost them most of their remaining credibility points with me.  For the first time in over a year I'm looking seriously at other games.  I've backed up SWTOR in the past but there are just too many ill-conceived and sloppy executions - it's like they are trying to get rid of pvpers...

I can't actually imagine a way that this new bolster system could be more screwed up. There isn't just one thing wrong with it. Even after they fix a bunch of things tonight, I am pretty sure that bolstered endgame pve gear will still be better than the best pvp gear outside of world pvp as some are saying it is now.
A: "Kira, join the dark side!" (changed the wording to prevent spoilers)
K: "I'd rather jump out an airlock naked!"

The line was well delivered at a tense moment in the story and was very funny.

The Huttball announcers were also funny the first 50 or so times.

Some of the ds scenes can be morbidly hilarious.

But I do agree that this game is a bit more serious than it should be most of the time compared to, say, WOW.

If Obsidian Entertaintment does not have any experience with MMOs they better stick with single player games or they will get the same hate that BioWare got :)

The best MMOs (by "best" I mean most successful) have all been from first time MMO producers (EQ1, UO, Lineage, Wow and even SWTOR).  Almost all of the game companies that have produced multiple MMOs have been very hit-and-miss (EQ2, AC2, AoC, Champions, Star Trek, WAR, etc.).

SWTOR requires both skill and gear - if you don't have both of them you're going to lose hard and fast to someone else that does.

But there's also team coordination (which plays into the skill requirement) - if you've got someone guarding you, bubbling/healing you and taunting your attackers your healthbar isn't going to go down much, even from the bursty specs out there.  Even recruit characters will be fine with that kind of support.  And even fully maxxed war heroes can get focus fired and stun/killed in a handful of seconds.

The level 1-49 can be fun for not-so-great players because it is full of a variety of gear and skill levels and most of the coordinated teams are in the 50 bracket.  I have a level 47 twinked focus sentinel (with ~200 expertise even) and I have lots of fun stomping people with it occasionally.

In my first level 50 game with a fresh 50 (my 4th 50 but no legacied comm gear and no guildies backing me) a couple weeks ago I got not-so-high damage but 3 solo kills using my recruit - a little later that day I did get top damage for my team a couple times.  It _is_ a bit rough but it's supposed to be: without the gear grind I promise SWTOR would have no wzs at all (other than pre 50).

On every topic there are many players with different ideas about how things should work and players with completely different perspectives on what "most players want". You won't go far "listening to the players" - as far as I'm concerned BW listened too much to players that wanted another Wow (whether they knew they were asking for that or not, many posters were).

On msg boards I could easily get a consensus right now saying swtor's pvp doesn't have enough cc, space missions are awesome, everyone should start at level 50 with max gear and VO can be the most important part of an MMO.

Many bad calls in this game that I've heard about have been "because beta tester's said so".

You couldn't get a consensus of players on many boards saying "sandbox features are worthwhile" or "down with the trinity" because most don't know what you mean and/or can't imagine such games. Letting a majority of players determine/drive a feature list is a bad idea.

Star Wars has 10's of millions of fans.  I believe that the problem with SWTOR is that there's no good reason for a non-MMO fan to play it.  PC Combat is clunky compared to other Star Wars games and space combat is lacking and not multiplayer.  The only things left are the MMO grind in pvp that doesn't make sense (War Zones/BGs can be fun but can't be explained to a RPer and the healing dynamic can't be explained to an FPSer) and the MMO grind in PVE (lots of people gather around giant robots/monsters and whack away).  While the stories are nice this is an MMO first and it has all of the MMO warts that turn off most sane people.  I'm playing and basically liking SWTOR but I wouldn't recommend it to any non-MMOer - I won't even admit I play it to any non-MMOer.

I believe that content-based MMO's for sane people will keep them playing for a few hours a month and not inspire them to quit their day jobs or otherwise reward the hardcore junkies first and foremost.  And they will overcome the combat limitations that Verant built their first MMO around; combat should be built around off/def maneuvers to get a solid hit with a decent weapon/spell (that ends a fight), not whittling down an opponent's health bar with dozens (or more) of mortal-looking strikes/blasts.  Ironically, the makers of SWTOR's Hero Engine, Simutronics, also made a text game with a combat system that is much more theatrical than any MMO I have seen so far.

My summation:

Q: Will F2P work with SWTOR (most questions were a variation of that)?

A:  Based on market research and basic logic, we believe that it will but don't know for sure.

How could they know for sure?  What promises can they make?  Of course they believe what they're saying but if anything, MMos have proven to be a very unpredictable market.

To the people calling SWTOR a financial failure/flop:  where are you getting your numbers from?

The game isn't as successful as 1 or 2 other MMOs, yes, and it doesn't do what many players on forums like these seem to "need".  But those factors do not a "flop" make, right?

All one has to do is look at the way they are handling the transfers to realize they don't have a clue how to comunicate with their customers.

It has already been a disaster, they had to stop the transfers due to bugs.  One has to wonder what all servers are going to be origina and destination.

They didn't actually stop transfers yesterday - I was able to transfer characters at various times all night yesterday - they just stopped opening up more servers to the service and sent us a patch last night.

The "disaster" is that they waited until <1 week before releasing the service to tell players anything about it and what they did tell us led us to believe that many if not most would have transfers available yesterday (or at least a full list of origin/destination servers with a timetable).  Instead we got a very short list of servers and assurances that it would be updated over the span of "days and not weeks" so we should keep checking the site (which wasn't actually updated properly when new servers were first added to the transfer list).  Most players still don't know if they're an origin or a destination and that's very frustrating.

<< Transfers are now live but so far they are a joke. Only 4 servers listed as available to transfer from on the US servers so far.  >>

Wow...  I'm sure they're starting conservatively but that is a VERY conservative and underwhwelming list.
