Also played this (RYL1) way back in the day. Was an awesome game then because it had a massive community.

Might be F2P but you'll definitely will be paying for updates sooner or later.

It's SOE.

Remember also they are upgrading servers to hold more people per server so wouldn't be surprised if it dropped to "recommended" or "low" due to increase in capacity.

To each his own, play what you want to pay for.

AION - felt like another go into WoW just with great graphics.

Fallen Earth - Feels more like an Alpha Game to me, maybe Q3/Q4 2010 it will be more polished.

Champions Online - Currently enjoying, has it's bugs but having fun with my 40.

New Action MMO.

So, I was following Champions Online for a long time. Really unique class system and combat system. Only problem? They just announced a fricken' micro-transaction system, completely losing me as a customer and player. Now I'm looking for a new MMO.
As an old World of Warcraft fanboy, I'm really quite sick of the auto-attack systems. I want one that is all action and no auto-attack. AKA, you choose EVERY attack. I'm also looking for something that's quite customizable, both in play style and looks wise (including armor). I want it to be a monthly fee, but with NO micro-transactions. I want it to also be relatively new (at least newer than WoW and CoH). So, anyone have any suggestions?

Seriously? I'll respect your opinion on CO but I would give it a second chance, most MMO's either have a micro-transaction or are thinking about it. Basically for CO it's only going to be "Packs" pretty much like how CoX has it.

But if you're looking for something along the same route of customization I would wait for Earthrise.

Try Fallen Earth and Earthrise, both fit your category.  I wonder why you bothered to write the article?

First of all Fallen Earth isn't even close to being what the article was about, sure hope you read the whole thing.

Earthrise I am not sure on as I have not played it.

But I'd love to see a MMO like this - a TRUE survival horror MMO.

So far I am not very impressed by Champions comparing it to COH/V. But I am being biased on graphics. To watch Cryptic Studios do the same type game and see the freedom COH/V has had since they left makes me love COH/V even more. So far it shows that NCsoft is about pleasing thier paying customers. When CS was running it, things we wanted were ignored.
Its also not kewl to see some of the same options they make for creation on COH/V on Champions. Too many things look alike and same story concepts with aliens...
I must say NCsoft is doing a great job both with COH/V and Aion. Both games are way ahead in graphics and flexibility to change for what comes in the future. COH/V Just revamped thier whole creation tools for creating toons.
Aion yes! WOW No!
Champions NO! COH/V 4 EVER!!!

Sorry but "pleasing the masses" just doesn't work. Look what CoX has turned into? Yay lets go grind in AE and get all the badges from the Ouroboros so I can get my accolades.
Yeah.. Great job!

Yeah it was that way alot at first when AE came out. I have noticed alot more people doing regular mishes again including myself.

Sure hope so, AE made me quit the game. Champions Online is a pretty good game (in CBT going to OBT) but just like every other game "If you're not having the fun, the game isn't for you" type of deal.

Not saying AMD is bad or without value but the new Phenom II just doesn't compare to the I7 chipset for multipurpose factors, this includes gaming.

You can build an AMD machine and be perfectly happy gaming wise, etc. Especially if you're on a budget. But being a hardware enthusiast myself and having more than 1000 custom built computers under my belt, the new wave of chips PII, I7 - I have to take the I7. I use the I7 in most of the PC's I build, even for people on a budget.

But my greatest advice to anyone that is looking for a new PC to build;

If you're on a low budget and need something to last you a couple years, all you do is game in medium/high quality then go with the Phenom 2, good graphics card, and if you can get a tri-kit if not DDR2 is fine also.

If you're on a low/medium budget and want something with more performance gaming wise and out of gaming, go with the I7 and a Tri-Kit 1600.

--------------------

Not playing "Fanboi" it's just how it is when you've benched computers yourself. I own AMD and Intel, both good companies. But you can never "win" in these debates due to fanboys who don't really understand the technology.

It's your money, spend it on what you want. Buy Newegg and Buy Tigerdirect.

Thx.

Having leveled to 40 on the Korean Retail and enrolled/playing NA beta (when open) I can say that OP is trying to convince himself more than anyone else that Aion is trash. Hate to say it but unless you experience Aion as a whole you will never understand.

If I would compare a game to Aion it would have to be Lineage 2 as they have a lot of the same things (such as those consumables some people are raging about). The PVP encounters are indeed skill based and aren't calculated like some other MMO's PVP (You're savior; WoW) so the PVP tends to sway back and forth very fluidly. RNG alleviates perma-cc or possibility of it, having it not down to a calculation makes every battle a different experience and even as a rogue you can still win a battle if somehow none of your CC even lands, you just have to be smart with how you play your character and not use the same routine done in WoW. (Which build is the flavor of the month? Sucks doesn't it).

If you rank up to the Top 10 you can become a "hero" / "guardian" which you do become very powerful, thing is it comes with a cost. Wherever you go, people know where you are (not exact location but enough information is given to players) so a good group can take you down very easily if you're not careful.

When it comes down to it, if you believe everything you've written and don't think the game will last at all why would you CARE enough to share it with other people you won't ever have a chance to convince? You only look like a childish troll that is upset or threatened by another game, just go back to playing WoW and be happy. Let others make the decision for themselves, it's their money.

just wanted to correct what i stated previously ...

you can open the quest list and click on the mob or the npc and you automatically move to it.
crafting: gear is given thru quests. altho i did have low lvl gear drop early on, and maybe does drop at higher levels too - idk that yet.
refining gear is iffy. i lost 2 items so far (broke). out of a total of 6, and they were under +3

Yeah refining in games has always been a gamble. If you remember or have played Risk Your Life, it's basically the same.

Still remember 60 ppl would gather around someone when he was trying to +6 something, was pretty epic.

When you make a MMO based on an existing RPG/tabletop, remember to use as many rules from the original IP as possible.
The problem here is that mythic changed the game so much that the millions of people that love Warhammer didn't recognize their game at all.
When I was in Edingburgh, Games workshop had the best placed shop in town, just below the castle on the old main street. Not something any other gaming company could affaord, not even Blizzard. Warhemmer have so many fans and still I only know one guy that like both Warhammer and WAR (I know around 50 Warhammer players).
The big problem with WAR is that Mythic tried to take Wows fans instead of aiming for Mythics and Warhammers fans.
The game in itself aint that bad but it aint Warhammer so I don't see the reason to play it, there are other games that are better around.
Also they could have added more fun stuff, like a Bloodbowl/snotball tournament once in a while. And why cant characters mutate?

I do agree with the main point of this post. Warhammer just isn't Warhammer, it's trying to battle other MMO's with the same tactics MMO's have been trying to do since WoW, not saying WoW is the most spectacular game but it took something and made it theirs in a sense, I was EXCITED beyond belief when I got in game of Warhammer and had a great time leveling my character to 40 but as I took that journey it was just like playing every other basic MMO out there, I say basic because everything in the game was broken somehow or just not implemented correctly.

Mythic has great ideas, but they implement them poorly. I am sad to leave Warhammer (cancelled my account last month) because I had really high hopes for the game but after trying 1.3 I know there is no hope (for me at least) because with the new slew of games on the horizon I don't think Warhammer will last.

For the people who are still playing and enjoying it, keep enjoying it. For the rest of us I wish you all the best in future MMO's that can satisfy us.

Have a ton of keys, Iron Rock looking for more recruits - Very active server with a lot of ORVR - Just send me a message.

I have 4 referrals willing to go to people who actually want to try the game / possibly subscribe.

I currently play on Iron Rock (NA) - If you get a referral from me / Roll on Iron Rock / Subscribe after the trial - I will give you 300 gold to your character to help you out in your Warhammer Gameplay. (You don't have to subscribe nor roll on my server, it's just an added incentive)

Feel free to send me a PM with your Name / Email if interested.

I have a lot of faith in NCSoft, they've brought us a lot of great games, even more to come. I highly doubt they'll forget about the western market and even if it is an "after thought" we are still on the list. MMO Gaming is still growing in the west and it would be a bad decision to forget about a market you can still bank on.

Aion is a great game, can't wait for the NA/EU release. Seriously, I am die'n here!

Kind of sick of hearing people say nerf Warrior Priests. I play destruction side and I've always been able to kill a WP without an issue. Granted I do run into some WP that really know their character inside and out so kudos to them.

WP is a pretty cool class.

ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH

Actually yes. Have everything downloaded but seems I have to wait for OB :(

At least you can cancel your account, took Sony 3 months to cancel my Vanguard account and wouldn't refund my money.

Thanks Sony <3

Unfortunately there isn't much to MMO's anymore IMO. There are a lot of great ideas out there but weren't executed correctly. Hopefully things change by 2012.
