Oh my god, this is a first for me.  I enjoy reading "This game sucks" threads, because I learn more about the games when the fans defend them, even when given only a one liner "This game sucks."

The reason it's a first is that I usually end up cheering for the games' fans.  But this time, although I was interested in giving this game a try, I don't think I'll be wasting my time downloading this.  My choice is based on the fan(s) of the game and their attitudes.

EU, from what I've read, seems like a decent social game/arena/platform/whatever.  But the game's representatives do not seem friendly or helpful at all.  I wish this project all the luck in the world and I hope the community improves, because it seems like this would be a great alternative for people seeking a more vanilla Second Life experience.

Only few representatives of EU community ever visit these pages and when they do, what they mostly see first are threads named like 'this game sucks' or 'dont bother with EU', by ppl who learned much faster and more quickly rewarding leveling in games like WoW. So that understandably tends to create equally rude counterarguments.

Much better way to familiarize oneself with the actually quite helpful and mature EU community is to start browsing Entropia Forum (http://www.entropiaforum.com/), not in any way official forums but by far the most influential.

As I have said elsewhere, when you are in mid-lvl skills in your main professions, with careful planning and selection of equipment it is possible to play for free indefinitely.

But it will take time before you are there, and when you are just starting, there is zero chance to cope without some deposits.

They can't tell you it's a capitalistic system before you enter.. if they would you would never enter.

Wait.. same goes with real life o.O  ..only you are forced to enter.

I wont actually expect to that engine being implemented this year.. lots of talk but slow progress.

I remember how long there was talk about vehicles coming, soon, next season, this year.. and when I look around in EU there still is no vehicles..

About Second Life.. the creative part of the game is really great but personally I did find the graphics so ugly I just could not go on playing after first few hours..

And also about the creative part.. one of the first things I saw ingame was a guy jumping around with a hat of the size of a rowing boat, yelling "oh, this is so cool, so cool!!"

Entropia's graphics are surely a bit outdated but they are no means ugly. Ofc its no Oblivion, but hardly none of the mmorpgs are.

Just so that everyone know it is doable, I have played last year without depositing at all. Often I get near broke, then again get good enough loot to carry on.

Got about 5k rifle skills, 4k pistol skills and so on. I hunt feffoids, cornundacauda, argonauts, the usual middle tier mobs. I need to use a lot those limited weapons though, to get good enough overall hit %.

For newb that surely is not possible, too many misses when hit ability is low.

He he, pvp in rpg.. I prefer games like UT where only man and his skills matter lol.

Yes ther is pvp, and tho the game mechanics is not the best possible for heated arguments with guns, it can lead to interesting confrontations in far away places.

I personally have no chance (read: money) to purchase good enough pvp gear, so my fate in pvp would be: "ah, I see a dot on radar, now careful.." **BLAMM** plasma-rifle hits me double the range I'm capable of and tears away 2 x my health

Comparing to WoW, which is the other mmorpg I play, progress in Entropia is also unbelievably slow. In WoW I needed 4 months to get to lvl 70, and now after 1 year my main character has all epics gear, been in most of the instances, even heroics and Karazhan are now more like routinely trips. Not to mention I have 4 other characters, lvl 70, 66, 58, 45.

Not so in Entropia.  After 3 years of rather active playing I still belong to the vast lower-middle geared player group with main skills only half-way to the effective maximum (not that there is maximum even, but after 10k aiming etc. skills your hit ability wont get any better).

I'm sure realizing this is a BIG problem for many players used to 'level up' much much faster in other games.

"..see 200 to 800 ppl" but there must be much more, for whenever (mainly about 4pm-4am) I wenture out to wilderness, from anywhere of the 50+ teleporters, sooner rather than later I see another player on my radar.  And the areas are god damn large.

Couple hundred near Atlantis, same maybe near Twin Peaks, tens in many major congregation points, tens in all the favourite hunting areas.

At one spot it doesn't look much but certainly there are thousands of players in peak hours.

..or a virtual casino..

I am a bit ashamed to admit this but one of the crucial things that fascinate me is loots, that with this system may signify some very real IRL change in one's economy.. tho only for someone, the lucky ones, the ones who have invested, ..or me today, or maybe tomorrow

Quite informative is the way you have your balance shown right under your health bar..

Um, not sure what you're talking about here; maybe I'm just misunderstanding? Your WoW toons last forever, even if your account lapses. Feel free to take a year off or whatever, they'll still be there when you get back.

Guess I wasn't clear (to myself either), but meaning something like:

I don't need to commit to any payment/depositing plan, ever, my char will still be available at all times. I never need to worry about game discs, registration keys, buying maybe extra content, I just download the client again where ever I settle down and off I go again. I can enter EU 24/7, have 3 months break , check auction for 15 min, week off, then 3-4 hours/day, whatever, I never need to wonder if I payed this months bills, or worry that I'm paying while not playing.

It being completely separate from my possible RL issues, it is very persistent.

If I decided to quit WoW for good, that's just it, all finished, all efforts I put to my char are gone like they never existed. Whereas if I plan to quit EU for good, I can extract my skills even (time put in acquiring them), sell them, sell my gear, and in fact really transfer those funds back to RL. And again, this is not dependent on how much I deposit/play/pay monthly. So the value of my possessions ingame is real value, not like in WoW where I think "Cool, I have now collected 2000g ...monopoly money "

You sure every information was correct? AND your age at least appears to be 18+? (It is certainly not recommended to say your age higher than it actually is, but many do so, for there is an age limit for EU). Could be 15 though, not sure. If everything is in order the confirmation should arrive immediately. If not I suppose it is transferred to some person to check it, anyway then it will take I guess quite long time before you get response.

While in WoW I have not been in EU almost at all. Except just yesterday. Guess what? My char and all the stuff is still there. I can pick up from where I ended when I last finished. Fool around if I don't have ingame money or money to deposit. Hunt as usual if I do. I can quit again and log in after 5 months, no requirements.

I think thats a lasting value. I can leave whole shit whenever I want, and I can get back in anywhere I am, just dloading the client, no questions asked. The character is on more solid basis than in all those pay-per-month games out there, I think.

I'm not a fanboy in sense that I voted like 10/10/10/10/10, I was honest, had and have to admit the flaws there are. But bloody hell if you guys don't get the idea of this universe.

Dunno about PA but C.Phoenix was deserted after the turret was placed near TP. Go check Nea's Place in Amethera, sweaters are there now no matter how impropable it sounds! Or new outpost just north of PA, mass of 'em!

I have never done it, but yes you can withdraw even if you have never deposited.

BUT: Minimum amount to withdraw is 1000PED (according to MindArk), fee is 1.5% of the sum, and transaction takes propably like 2 months.

Unless you have the EU cash card (which I doubt), then its just couple clicks and BLAM! you can get the money from nearest ATM.

Anyway, if its long time since you have been playing, the account is propably locked by now.

As many, and me too, has extensively talked about hunting in EU, lets not forget mining. While it is true one had better develop some hunting skills to defend oneself while on those mining trips, many ppl concentrate solely on mining. And why?

When I created a secondary ava for WoW, with mining as a profession, I find it simply hilarious to be able to see deposits clearly from distance, even on radar, and what was most funny, they respawned at exact same spot after few minutes!! After EU I could not help but laugh.

As you might guess, EU being economically so ruthless, such respawning system simply would not do. No, deposits are hidden underground, you need finders to find them, bombs and probes to create sonic waves which will then hopefully be reflected back from a deposit to your detector, and then drill for getting the minerals up. And of course equipment decay and every bomb costs you, whether you find anything or not.

And deposits certainly do not respawn in minutes, actually almost no one knows for sure how quickly it happens, but it seems on some areas (yes, areas, not at some exact coordinates) they'll reappear within a day even, on some others after maybe a week or so. And of course there might have been another miner just before you, so if you know the area you should be able to judge from your results if you have to move on or not.

Note that you can mine anywhere!  Well, not inside buildings or underwater (that was changed few patches ago), but if you are on open ground, in some remote forest, desert, outpost, even on those space station biodomes, you can drop a bomb or probe. If you find something, you can then drop more nearby to see if it was a isolated deposit, or if you have hit some maybe good area. If its good, you maybe start using your preplanned bombing pattern to really extensively cover the area. Then  you mark it (mentally or on paper/3rd party prog), and you have new place of interest on your map.

Now, while looking for new areas you may choose to fight your way in through herds of difficult mobs, hoping not too many miners bother to visit those areas = better chances for you. You may travel to the fartest corners of the continents, hoping theres not so much traffic. You may mix hunting and mining, hunting not-too-hard mobs and probe now and then, then concentrate more on one or another depending on returns. Later on you may have to plan long mining trips through various, hostile or not, areas to reach your favourite mining grounds.

What has been said elsewhere about economic sustainability, casino effect, most lose - some win scheme, etc., all that applies to mining just as well of course. Just wanted to point out how EU mining can be a real treat, a very interesting profession indeed.
