Originally posted by Leethe This is exactly my issue with digital as well. Having digital downloads as an option is fine and dandy, But when I buy a boxed singleplayer game, Put in the disk and it says I have to log in to steam and use steam to download the game, I'm left wondering "What the hell is on the disk then?" I buy retail copies of my games because I like to actually own them. I feel like I am just renting the game until the company no longer supports it or shuts down their network. It is a given risk with digital downloads, But with physical retail disks it is preposterous. Put the damn game on the disk! Sheesh. |

Name one thing you miss from the "original" MMOs...

The wonder and the freshness of the then-new concept. Oops, That was two! |

I didn't even know this game was revived till recently. I used to play it back in High School, and I must say it is like getting in a time machine. I feel like a teenager again! :) |

Simple question really. How similar is The 4th Coming to Ultima Online and what are the differences? Also is The 4th Saga the same game but just a different server? As an ex UO player this game looks very interesting from what I've seen in vids. Thank you all for your time. :) |

With the game F2P how are they going to avoid Pay2Win?

Why This Old School EQ Gamer No Longer Plays MMORPGs

Originally posted by Roqoco Great point Roqoco! I happen to be one of those "old-school" pc gamers myself and am an IT. In the beginning MMO's certainly were for enthusiasts mostly and not as much handholding was going on as we see in many titles today. I agree with Gainesvilleg as well on the point that it is a difficult and sometimes near impossible challenge to appeal to all types and demographics equally in an MMO, And is also why I think it is a waste of time to attempt universal appeal. In my opinion, Devs and Pubs should pick their audience or audiences and not try to tailor everything in their game to every kind of player. But of course, This is just my opinion. |

Why This Old School EQ Gamer No Longer Plays MMORPGs

Now that I got that previous post off my chest, I am going to say something that may be unexpected. Or maybe not. I kind of agree with the OP and I also kind of agree with the opinions of StoneRose as well. I think that between these two schools of thought, i.e. "New" and "Old" schools, There lies some sort of middleground. Perhaps the next blockbuster MMO will be one that takes the fundamentals and tried-and-true elements of the old school, and mixes it with new school elements that have come about since the release of WOW. It is always good to make progress for certain, But devs should not throw away or forget what has worked in the past. The genre has evolved this is for sure, and we should embrace new elements and mechanics when they improve the genre, and reject them when they detract from the experience. But we should all the while remember where we came from and never forget the elements that forged this genre and made people want to go exploring with their friends in the first place. |

Originally posted by RefMinor Yeah, I am scratching my head as to why Stone thinks the OP is attempting to speak for all of humanity. It is clearly an opinion piece and never once does it seem like he is attempting to assert his opinion as fact. Hey Captain Obvious, I think everyone is aware that experiences and opinions are different from person to person. Did that really need pointing out? I am really sick of rude people trying to derail a thread started by a unoffensive post by a person who is attempting to put forth their opinion in a rational manner. I am not saying that people can't or shouldn't disagree, But if people do disagree it would be nice if they just explained why they disagree and actually contribute to the conversation/debate instead of posting insulting or sarcastic one-liners and/or juvenile memes. Is this too much to ask for? |

Unless you bought the game boxed or on steam all you can download is the trial. If you are trying to download the trial it's up there. But I would just wait a couple days when it goes free to play. I think the 11th or 12th is the day EQ f2p is supposed to launch. |

I cannot speak for WAR or Mortal Online because I have not played them, But the rest of the titles on this list are doing just fine with decent to good player bases. What it really comes down to is what style of MMO you wish to play. |

The new screenshots look very nice. Wonder if it will actually be implemented (finally) this year. |
