The extra price wasn't per patch or update; it's a flat subscription price (9.99 cheaper than most MMO's these days) that can be cancelled any time. During the subscription you have access to all the features including all the extra content when it comes out; so no you won't be paying extra for Stonehenge and the others aside from the subscription for premium service.

I don't care what people say; Flag Ship is slowly becoming my new favorite game company. Not dethroning Arenanet, but damn these games are just fun. |

Originally posted by Maximous621 As will HG; I think comparing the two is really ultimately a decision of if you're looking for a dedicated MMO or just a fun game to play online. I do have respect for TR despite my lack of experience with it; namely, I'm happy to see someone trying something new for the online market, and I've heard nothing but good things about their involvement with the community and it sounds like they're trying. The gripes I've heard are the same gripes I've heard about, well, every game at launch. |

Would you play another flagship studios game?

To all those never reinstalling and playing again: Please give your accounts to people who will play. |

Alright in a nutshell, this isn't a standard MMO. There is both a single player and a multiplayer online part. The multiplayer is the same as the single player, except when you're in the subway hubs across London you see the other players running around and can group up for quests and what not in instanced environments. It's kinda like Guild Wars, except all the outposts seem to be in Subways. The online portion is fun, and when you buy the game you essentially get the normal modes for online play at no further cost. However, they have premium subscriber content; which allows more character slots, the ability to host and own your own Guild (free members can still join), and new content being added just for Subscribers. If you get a glimpse of the Stonehenge areas, that's subscriber content that just got added this month. Supposedly they're going to have more expansions added every couple months for subscribers. The Elite and Hardmode difficulties are also premium content.
Personally I enjoy the game, and ended up paying a founder's fee for a lifetime subscription. But I personally think the subscription part should only be for those who really get into it; but the standard non-subscriber version I found to be perfectly enjoyable in that Diablo sense. So yeah, it is a computer action-hack'n'slash with online features for both regular players and subscription services for more content. But it's nothing like CoX. I'd compare it more to a darker version of Phantasy Star Online with the game design of Diablo II (since it is made by the former Blizzard North team). As far as profession info and the like, not sure what kind of info you're needing but I suppose you can check out sites like HellGateGuru and check out their class forums for discussions of builds and what not. Can't say anything about Tabula Rasa, but if you're looking for a more immersive MMO then TR might be the better bet.

I know I'm going to be in the minority on this, but I figured I might as well pitch in my two cents: I personally love the game at its core. I was plenty happy without the subscription based stuff. When I bought it, I wasn't wanting WoW in Post Apocalyptic London; I wanted a freaking demonic slaughterfest. I have not been dissapointed. Matter of fact, I actually decided at the very last day it was available to go ahead and plop down the cash for the lifetime membership. I've seen Flag Ship working hard to improve the game, and to be honest the game has been running fine on my end.

But the quests are actually well translated in the previous closed beta. Leveling was at a good pace, and the combat system is freaking fun. It's not an immersion game, it's not an award winning plot. But it's definitely combat heavy and far from boring...you're going to actually need skill here and watch what you're doing. Play it like an over the top console-style action RPG, not the next big commercial MMO. It's a fun romp.

Originally posted by Cola I'm a huge fan of RIFTS and I'll say it doesn't need the MMO treatment; a decent single player would be better than watering down such a rich setting and streamlining the rules into what would essentially be Coalition players stomping everyone else. And your above comment cracks me up; all the guys I knew who were hardcore RIFTS players were also hardcore WoW junkies and very defensive of both. Have fun :) |

Not really sure how to address this except maybe Warrior or Wizard depending on your play style just because you don't just level your stats you also have to level your skills by using them. Your skills are broken up into two categories: Sword and Magic. The game awards XP not per kill but per hit, so every time you use a successful skill hit against an enemy you gain some experience in that skill category; leveling it up awards you a point to improve your skill, and after so many skill points you get to increase your rank and unlock a new tier of skills. So Warriors and Wizards, who focus primarily on one or the other, will acquire their skill points a lot quicker than, say, a Force Blader who uses skills in both Sword and Magic. If you go the Wizard route like I did, I hope you have good reflexes. Don't screw up like I did my first day....in combat pull the camera back and isometric, don't use Melee spells and just repeat freezing/stunning the opponent followed with a couple nukes and repeat. Use the click to move to run circles and leave the auto-combat off because wizard melee damage is a joke with their fists -- otherwise you'll start to automatically charge at your opponent between spell throws. Warrior though I used standard WASD controls and auto-combat and just charged in and bashed'em up. Just my experience :) |

Small things really. Graphics are decent. Not AAA quality but for a freebie I was pleased. ENGLISH! I was happy for stuff like Word Wrap! It's a brutal little combat clicker...if you love over the top anime-esque combat with huge swords it's a pleaser.
There are some things that annoyed me....pretty much despite face and hair customizations, everyone's going to be wearing one of 3 different styles of armor throughout the game (unless they have more customization stuff later on I didn't see). There's a story and some good quests but a lot of it is still "Go kill 10 of these things" "Go kill these until an item drops" "Go talk to so and so". So really, nothing new to the MMO world especially the free to play market. But the combat keeps it interesting and challenging. |

Obviously because A) They're noobs who probably have only played WoW and B) Haven't even touched this game yet. I'd compare it more to an outlandish console-style action-RPG before I compared it to WoW. Combat is very tactile and skill based....I tried playing it using a standard WoW/Guild Wars style and it wasn't cutting it....so I pulled the camera back overhead like Diablo and began running circles around the mobs spamming my hotkey spells and got much better results. This isn't auto-attack, hit key sequence, repeat....the auto attack is present but not necessarily an advantage. I keep mine to manual attacking and it's all about keeping on your toes, keeping your timing and kiting plays a big role. It may not have the detailed ritzy production and lore Warcraft and other p2p's have....but it definitely has a more challenging combat system than I've seen in most of the genre.

I hope they take time to squash what few bugs they had (Onlything I noticed was just minor lag spikes but otherwise it ran pretty frickin' good.) If they take a while to make sure it's stable, solid and fun I'll wait a bit. If they take as long as 2moons took for no reason at all, I'll probably be on my next fix by then :) But so far, I'm impressed with the action in this one. It plays very different, and that's a good thing. |

Heh it's not even being ran by the same company stateside, plus it's not Global its US and Canada. So there's the fineprint on the silver lining for you.

It's in closed beta; if you weren't one of the people to get an invite you can't play anyways. They have. however, mentioned Open beta will be around shortly.
Currently, playing 9Dragon. it's totaly free MMORPG. The common thing between 9Dragon and other MMORPGs is they all need grinding. I have never seen or heard anyone whining about 9Dragon even for the server lag, poor graphics ...etc and no one said it's a terrible game.
The beautiful thing about 9Dragons is all it is is grinding. I used to love it until I realized there's no effing point to it past grind. And if you've never heard anyone say it, you apparently are the most selective reader on this site. It has its moments in the beginning but then 9Dragons turns into nothing BUT a grind fest. Acclaim apparently considers their games out of beta as soon as they get enough advertising for them. Nevermind the item malls opened up long before it went live.

A indication as to how this game will handle lag...lol
General Discussion « Cabal Online 1/24/08 9:36:48 AM
I said no to your poll because it's closed beta Site is working plenty fast for me atm; and I expect the closed beta to be lag city since they usually use that as a small "stress test" before opening to beta, which will then lag more as more people sign on and they get an estimate of how many servers they'll need to meet demand. Hopefully we won't be stuck years behind the other versions of this game like most imports are like. |

GameGuard+Perma.Death+Grind = Another Generic Korean MMORPG?
General Discussion « Shaiya 1/15/08 5:10:37 AM
Yeah if you got a problem with Permadeath, then simply don't roll an Ultra mode character. Hard Moders should be fine in PvP as long as they never travel alone :) |

Yeah there's an animation slider and a butt load of options and you can rebind keys if you actually take the time to LOOK through the options menu. You can even set the nice little buttons to stay on screen for your clicking preference if you want. |
