The Secret World: My Wife the Noob and TSW
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/28/12 9:31:13 AM
Well, what worries me the most is that u don't get to try any other faction PVE part in the upcoming betas (the other thing is that FC is making this game...). Combat ain't nice, it's dull at the best, feels like fallen earth... Graphics are ok but way too limited right now. The quests were nice tho and the ambiance very good. While that might keep me playin' for one month, doesn't guarantee an actual sub tho. Hope FC, for once, steps up their game and do something very very good, not just throw good ideas together and wrap em up with poor execution, like in both AO and AOC. |

The Secret World: One Million Register for Closed Beta
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/11/12 4:14:38 AM
I wish this could be the first good game from Funcom, but i have so many doubts that i'm gonna wait before buying this and try the betas... AO and AOC were quite fun but totally unfinished (AOC being far worse than AO, till they hacked the server and dropped armors everywhere lol). So, wait & see, hoping for the best ! |

I like TERA, it plays nice, but i'm not seeing it not going F2P soon. Honestly, there's just too little to do once u hit 60. Few gear. PVP's just OW zergfest for now, no BG no organized pvp, nothing like that. GVG don't have any rewards whatsoever, it's just "me dun like u so me fight u" that gets old quite fast, as u don't fight over anything. Political system ? L2 did that already, had the same than vanarchs, exactly the same stuff. Never worked. TERA doesn't work in Korea, Blue Hole ain't doing much, so no hope from that side, maybe En Masse would go Rogue and do a lotta content on their own, but they ain't sized for it. No, i think TERA has to go the same path than AION but much, much, earlier.

TERA is anything BUT a sandbox, it's nowhere near a sandbox, it hasn't been built to be one, and it ain't a sandbox at all : 1) Sure u can grind but u'd level 4x faster by doing quests, and prolly 6x faster doing quests in a Group, so why bother ? 2) U got 0 choice in character progression, u got ur class, u follow it, period. There isn't even an ability tree like in EQ2, WoW, RIFT, the only thing u can get are glyphs to modify ur abilities (cooldown, crit chance...) but u don't get any new ability that way. 3) U got dungeons, instanced dungeons for every milestone that u MUST run if u want decent gear 4) Last but not least, if u don't follow the story quest, u're pretty much screwed on gear (cf point 4, story quest guides u thru all dungeons and give u intermediate blue gear if u don't wanna grind the dungeons to have gold). So, no, EQ1 was like 1000x more a sandbox than TERA and that's the game that defined theme parks (and that got intellectually raped by wow in every possible way). |

Ain't overpriced here in FR at the moment. Same price than most games and it's still cheaper than that crap COD. Also, no subs FTW :D |

Guild Wars 2: 'Microtransactions Should Unite the Community'
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/29/12 1:20:02 AM
I believe they are right if the balance is ok. Microtransactions help people who actually got to do something with their life, to still be able to play with some of their friends whose life consist of pizzas, sodas and mmorpgs due to an unknown income source. I definitely agree with the approach here, as long as it's well managed. |

Can't wait for the 10th to be able to buy it and get into beta already. Tired to see my press buddies have fun every other week end. Well there's TERA to kill time, still. |

U can skip some zones questwise, but it's really the quests rewards that level you up. TERA ain't meant to be a grindfest like L2 was and it's also a game that's meant to play in Groups (so much for a good part of the suckers that play it tho and who prefer to struggle alone than group & win). In TERA, u get a group, u quest, u win. U solo, u take 10x the time to do the same stuff, u lose. For the quests themselves, besides GW2, i don't see any other MMORPG that does em differently, even SWTOR's quests were, in the end, kill stuff 90% of the time. BAMs are quite awesome as well and they get much much more clever the further you level. Those spiders outside SM were already enough to wipe some groups tho lol. The only thing that worries me a little bit with TERA is the OW PVP System, this game's an invitation to ganking and zerging, so it'll really be community dependant. |

Plz SOE don't mess this one up !! PS1 was massive, quite awesome, had helluva blast innit, massive fights while other games did 32 at best. I really got hopes on this game, even if FPS games quality is quite very high these days (specially BF3), Succeed where MAG didn't really. Give us those ultra well organized fights again !! |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Flashpoint - The Lost Island Hands On

TOR is the Justin Bieber's of MMORPGS... Delivers the same 0 quality and people still go crazy over it... Sometimes i don't understand people. |

Rift best graphics ? That's got to be the joke of the day, even EQ2 looks better and it's close to 7 years old now. I feel the same than you OP tho, i like TERA a lot, but i don't think i'm going to get it just because of GW2 / TSW. There's also one thing that'll bug me with TERA it's the PVP system. It's going to be a L2 reboot, open world zergfest with whoever has the biggest number wins and owns keeps whatever. It's like that in all open world pvp korean mmorpgs, they don't get it right. Somehow only EVE managed to it properly, mostly due to the huge role that resource harvesting played in the game (hence controlling 0 sec was vital to build those huge ships). But in a fantasy game it's a road to failure... That's probably the game killer for me, especially when u see how well thought GW2's pvp seems to be, especially the World vs World (vs World). |

General: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/02/12 3:21:27 AM
Crappy artstyle aside, KOA is not too bad, played a few, the gameplay's allright, the quests are basic but ok, it's a soso game overall, aye. The builds aren't really balanced but it's more a matter of taste than anything else i guess. The closest game to KOA (imo) remains Fable, it's really close in terms of artstyle, playstile and the like. I'd say if u like one then u'd like the other, basically. @sandslasher4 : if u started TES with morrowind then u have been missing out. Skyrim's quite in the line of TES 3 & 4. But, if u compare it to Arena, or even Daggerfall, it has like 10000x less content, especially on 3 aspects (to tell the truth i didn't even play morrowind much because of that) : 1) Randomly generated world as u explore it (yeah Arena had it back in 1994, with random dungeons, random POI, and a world the size of... EUROPE ! 2) Spells creation kit. Ok i understand they removed it cuz you could do some very OP stuff (like huge AOE dmg added with convert damage taken to magika and bang u're invincible) but it was one of the best part of the game. 3) Rob the god damn stores ! However, Skyrim adds 2 very good things (for me) : 1) The graphics, cuz really in TES the characters always looked like crap before 2) The perks system a la fallout, which is quite incredible. Also, don't forget that Bethesda released the toolkit and Skyrim's more a sandbox element for people to create their own adventures innit, like the awesome content we had for Oblivion before (nehreim ?). Sorry bout the () on Skyrim, it's quite outta place here |

2 days are way enough to get the feel of a game, it's not enough to see end game content obviously, but it's enough to see the overall mechanics of a game and see if it's of your liking or not (TOR here you are). The whole idea of not having quests anymore, of having people getting xp anytime they work together is good, same goes for the classes with the bazillion of class reviews going around (like yogscast) you can see how they work pretty well. This beta was 2 days only, but 2 days for a lot of press people who, thankfully, didn't all look at the same stuff, giving us quite a large band of information. Now the ONLY thing we need, is a huge god damn player beta to get innit already and see for ourselves ! C'mon Arenanet, give us that beta now ! |

While i'm deeply interested by GW2, i can't say that those gameplay videos were hot, everything moved so slowly, acted so slowly... Especially the engineer video. Well, only putting my hands on it and see for myself will tell but i'm afraid that it won't be quite revolutionary in terms of gameplay (can still be on every other aspect tho). |

@Pokket, You can't complain about combat being movement / avoid this and that vs other mmos as those are just "lock ur target and push 1,2,3,4,5" whatever. There's not even the avoidance factor (most of the time). Only in Rift did i find some fun bosses that actually forced you to do stupid stuff (jump, turn around, and so). Also, you didn't mention that this game's absolutely awesomely playable with a gamepad, you probably didn't try, but it's ace using a 360 controller. The only fear i got about TERA is the pvp. Either u go on PVP server for a total gankfest without any point, or u stay on PVE server and do the crappy BGs. Having no faction in the game forces PVP to be total anarchy, which is probably what'll make me quit the game at some point. I also don't envy you pokket with the bazillion of retarded love declarations u get everyday, it must be quite boring. Seems that a lot of players forgot there are actually girls everywhere in the world and that they should go to town a little bit. |

Are we allowed to dislike the game?
Reviews & Impressions « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/03/12 2:10:44 PM
It just seems that the weeks following TOR release all mmorpg admins had been replaced by EA/Bioware pawns and were trying to put the ban hammer on anyone voicing against the game. Now the magic dust is gone, nobody's fooled by anything, people who like the game play it, people who don't already quit. This game got issues, probably more than a AAA released in 2011 should have, but that's it. It's not a bad game, it's not a good game either, at least not good enough for me to spend time and money in it. I also think that the high number of "warnings / bans" or whatever has been due, for a large part at least, to fanboys hitting "report" on whichever post that voiced some dislike about their lover. Now people just need to settle down and move on to something else. 2012 has a lot of interesting stuff coming down the pipe, like GW2, TERA, Diablo 3, the panda dudes and maybe some news about WOD ! |

Funny to see that all MORPGS are WOW with a coat of paint, when WoW was just EQ1/AC/DAOC with a coat of paint as well. Everyone seems to forget that the MMORPG business didn't start with WOW at all. The only thing that wow brought to the genre back then was retarded artstyle. In 7 years it evolved, of course, especially pvp wise, but the crap artstyle remained. Only MOP (not the rappers) seems to finally change this a little. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Good Cop, Bad Cop – SWTOR
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/31/12 10:08:37 AM
@Dredphyre I'm afraid that you don't know much about Star Wars... Bioware totally destroyed the lore of SW with this game. TOR is totally inconsistent in terms of timeline, factions and all, for several points : 1) This game takes places millenas ago, way before the first republic, so, why does the "empire" faction use the same symbol than the one palpatine created when he came to power millenias later ? Check on wookiepedia about the previous sith wars, NO faction used the 8 stars symbol. 2) It goes the same with the "republic" troopers ? Which republic ? Which troopers ?? Those were created on Kamino millenias later, so, WTF are they doing in the game ?? Respect of the "force & villains" lore is totally wrong as well : 1) Since when does a bounty hunter take a blaster shot from someone else ??? A BH tank ? Seriously ?? That's just plain ridiculous. 2) A sith, healing ANOTHER ??? A SITH ? Someone having to be healed would mean she's a weakling, hence not deserving any interest from a fellow sith. A sith would never ever freaking heal someone else. The only healing power they use is for immortality (their own). The same goes for most classes, they make no sense, the story makes no sense, the world makes no sense. It's totally out of star wars lore and Lucas just took the money and didn't care, ONCE AGAIN. |
