Payday is coming up for me and I have been itching for a new game. Played Tera Beta and loved it. Haven't played Diablo 3 at all but it looks really fun. Abybody got any suggestion that can swing me a certain way?

starwars is a fantasy story like a knights wizard story.. with technology udated from horses carriages and metal swords.. added ligth swords, lazers space ships and aliens.  

 

when i first saw star wars i was like wow a long time ago they had some pretty cool stuff.. when we get advance it is going to look way better..... minus the magic stuff.  ie force.

It doesen't matter when it happened what matters is how long the society has had to advance their technology, the argument that it looks old is because it was "a long long time ago" makes no sense since that society has had milenia to advance. But we're arguing semantics right now of a made up society. Im not arguing what the poeple in the Star Wars universe are doing im arguing what the people that made the Star Wars movies did at their time, but honestly I think it would be pointless to comtinue to debate this because anything made 30 years ago will always look dated by modern standards.

Let me illustrate my point a little better, looking at Star Wars after being exposed to more modern Sci-Fi is kind of like looking at a Camry from the 70's right next to the newer 2012 model, they function the same way but one definitely LOOKS older. you can't be like "Oh they look the same." because they don't and I think majority of people if they were given a choice between the two they would choose the 2012 because it looks better.

PS. I have no other issues with Star Wars I too enjoy it from time to time and I think I might buy this game I just find it dificult to get immersed because it looks like it was made in the 70's and it was.

I should clarify, it's concept of advanced technology looks dated.

Now I am about to say some things which people might consider trolling but I assure you I am not, just pointing out something that turns me off to the entire Star Wars universe. Star Wars was made way back in the 70s and it's visual concept of what is futurisitc is kind of dated by today's standards. Now I know Star Wars is not the future but a galaxy far far away but you get what I mean. These days I would consider Mass Effect futuristic in it's visual style. The fact Star Wars looks so dated makes it dificult to enjoy anything from that universe including this game. Anybody else feel this way or am I just wierd?

Can I say AOC, FF14..... If you want pretty games there you go.. Zero game play though, glad they spent more money on game play, and they did the graphics a bit lower on purpose they knew there fan base would not be able to afford high end and thats a fact they have talked about it many times. When I went to E3, thats the first thing they said, so I don't understand people.

 

When AOC release so many complained there machine could not handle it, so I couldn't imagine if they went out for this, they would get like 20k subs instead... Think people think.

I second the notion I don't think people realize how dificult it is to render photorealistic graphics. I think they are going for the WoW "playable on any machine" approach and I agree with them on that. I know if they made their graphics more "realistic" people would complain about the requirements being too high.

I put this together on Newegg. It's a pretty good gaming computer, it will last you for a while. There is definitely places you can cut corners to make it cheaper like the hard drive and power supply, but I went for something thats kind of cheap and pretty damn good. Kind of funny/creepy that the price after mail in rebates is $666 lol.

PS. I made this assuming you already have a monitor mouse keyboard etc.

The controls are the main reason I'll probably end up not playing it that long. I have two real life friends that used to play FFXI that were planning on getting it (I had four more that no longer have systems that can run it), but with the graphics not allowing our other friends to play, and the controls being so awkward they said that they probably won't stick around after the first month.

PS. They don't have to replace the current controls and UI, you woudln't be able to play it on console without it, all people are saying is a second set for PC players to use would be nice.

I feel exactly the same way. I shout a question, not a single response. I don't think you can manipulate the map. And the UI is everyones biggest gripe.

For a suposed next gen MMO it lacks a lot of features which were established in the previous generations of MMOs. I would like to give SE credit because it's not easy making a game but it still feels like everyone who helped make this game did it blindfolded. What I mean is im surprised they didn't do researche in what makes MMOs streamlined. I applaud the innovation, the MMO market definitely needs it, but they overlooked some general things that make an MMO easy to play, and when I say play I mean Controls and UI, im not talking about difficulty so don't accuse me of wanting a WoW clone.

In the end it feels like they forgot to ask people how they like to manipulate their game.

I agree with everything you said, I also want to add that even the patcher is as buggy as the game, I mean a laggy mouse while patching the game, come on, thats just ridiculous, and don't even get me started on the patchers port issues. I had to use my torrent program to download the updates then paste them into the patcher directory because the patcher isn't capable of doing what it's designed for.

I played and loved FFXI and it had it's issues but I still loved it. I was hopping that they were gonna fix those issues in FFXIV but it looks like just like they made more, I mean is some streamlining for PC gamers too much to ask for.

On another note, is anyone else getting that "render bubble" effect where shurbs and bushes are loading in a bubble around you as you walk and sometimes you can see them loading in the distance. Really annoying. Another thing this game desperately needs, optimization, I have a Quad Core Core i7 at 2.8 GHz, 4 Gigs of RAM at 1600 MHz, and a GTX 470, I should not be having the issues I am having.

I had really high hopes for this game but it looks like the game won't be what I hopped it was going to be, as you can tell by the hype meter, it's out of the top five.

My starting city is Gridania and im trying to figure out where to buy new armor and weapons. I want to get my Marauder out of that stupid tanktop and actually look cool. So does anyone know where to buy armor and weapons, or is that not gonna be available in the Open Beta?

Well you have a good point there with the giving up part, but I would still have sympathy no matter what.

I would just like to point out that CG stands for Computer Generated. Technically every game that has graphics has CG quality graphics.

Anyway, graphics don't make the game at all. If you're concerned with graphics primarily than you may as well watch a CG movie.

He didn't say he was putting graphics above quality he was just wondering how it would take to get those kinds of graphics, don't you think your response was rather presumtious.

Now those are the kinds of images I was trying to find, but it's really hard to find, and a new video on YouTube is more rare than finding a diamond in a pond lol. Thank you for those great screenshots. If they would allow for some new media to come out I think that might lower the hate a little lol, get people a little excited. When I saw the screenshots on this site I thought to myself "Jesus, this is depressing" I know it's a "Dark Age" game but I think they had forests during the Dark Ages lol.

You have to hold it together, I mean you don't want rush it, we all know how bad that can be lol.

Judging from the screenshots the environments in this game feel really bland and colorless. I love all the unique mechanics that are in the game, I just hope that in the end product the environments are going to have some more life and color. I mean all I can see is a vast grassy expanse with just a few trees dotting the landscape, and in my opion that is really boring. Like I said in the title this isn't a hate thread so can we please avoid the flaming and trolling, thank you.

PS. Oh yeah, why does everything have a brown tint?
