Don't go for LOTRO if PvP is anywhere near the top of your check list. It's a really great PvE game but the pvp side, monster play, is under developed and has some serious issues. It's only there as a diversion.

It has many issues but the one of the bigegst ones is the code just isn't up to fast paced pvp. Getting jumped by 5 or 6 people means you see scolling damage like mad and your 'instant' skills not firing off for up to 4 or 5 seconds meaning generally that you are dead before you can act. It seriously needs some optimisation but it could be fun if they put the time in to get it right.

The other thing is pvp here is all about crowd control, more so than any other game I've played. As well as being unable to act due to the coding, expect to be rooted, dazed, stunned, knocked down en mass. I enjoyed monsterplay for a long time but only by not taking it seriously and expecting the odds to be totally stacked against me. And that leads to the final main issue I have.

The under lying principle of Monsterplay is that a 'creep' should never be the equal of a 'freep'. Fair enough if you want to keep the outcome of every battle in line with the books i.e. creeps loose every 'balanced' face-off. Not much fun for the creeps though. Most freeps wqant some reward for their journey to level 50 and this is it. Superiority.

So for the moment what is a good well populated PVP game?

MaGic, I bet you will like this game based on the few posts I've read by you in the AoC forums.

That is, if you like polish. The combat is waaay different though, you'll have to adjust.

Yea I really like AoC, its just got issues I am starting to notice(Level 46 atm). Higher level I get the worse those issues are and the more of them. Its funny I always defend AoC, but now I am starting to get bored of it at higher levels..

The trophy thing sounds cool, I got the dl done last night and am getting ready to login to give it a shot :).

There are just a handful of "real" PvP games. By real, I mean no artificial "carebear" limits on PvP. Ganking, murder gangs, player justice or no justice.

I'm not a "real" PvPer, but I've heard EvE is pretty hardcore, with a nasty death penalty to boot. L2 is pretty hardcore PvP from what I know. DAOC is opening a new server soon that has some buzz, worth a look.

There is Fury (fail), not sure about the upcoming Aion's PvP.

If you want a polished game with loads of PvE content, limited (very) PvP, but lots of quality of life bells and whistles, good story telling and with a huge free update about to drop (or did it yet?), you were right first time - LOTRO.

Guess what? They don't charge you for the free trial! Imagine!

I just downloaded LoTR free trial to give it a shot, I was always a HUGE fan of the books/movies. If I like it I may switch to that for a while and see how AoC does in a few months.

I play AoC, and still will I am still enjoying that game actually.. to each his own, but I figured I would give LoTR a shot to play alongside AoC. Sounds fun, and I loved the books/movies :).

Oh sweet, I am downloading the free trial right now so will check the game out. I have been playing a ton of AoC, and was wanting something else to play for a while till AoC catches up with where I am in content. I chose this game(if the free trial turns out good) because I use to love the Lord of The Rings books, and movies. The books were the first books I ever read all the way through lol, anything else just bored me when I was younger.

Does LoTR Online have player housing? If so how customizable are they, and are they hard to obtain?

I'd suggest L2, the graphics are nice, and the pvp is top notch (castle seiges, open pvp after lvl 20.. or some low lvl)

The new update is going to lessen the grind so you will not be left out of the higher end content.

I am guessing thats Lineage 2, I heard it was constant grinding?

I have been playing AoC and maxed out on that game already just about(maybe another month or so before I run out of content).. and am looking at playing a MMORPG with good PVP. I very new to MMORPG's, the only ones played are EQ1 and AoC. I have been thinking about DAoC, but it's still pretty expensive considering how old it is.. and is there alot of people still playing? By alot I mean easy to group/find people for PVP.

Or the interviewer was not listening, I never really figured that was true it would just hurt Funcom even more to mention a expansion this early..

So whats a better PVP MMORPG(Besides EVE), or DAoC(no playerbase)?

I have never had any issues over there, and I have seen tons of posts about how "bad" the game is, etc and they dont seem to be removed...

This reminds me, last night before I logged off I was in the Tarantia Noble District and some kind of guild war was going on between Legends Rise and The Fallen One Third. I was running to my next Quest, and about 20 guys from each side were running around slaughtering eachother so I stealthed and watched(I am only level 43, they were all 60+). The Fallen One Third got slaughtered lol, but was pretty cool hadn't seen anything like it in this game yet.

I was billed 14.99 then after was billed additional .45. On two seperate accounts.  Anyone else any strange stuff?

Its the international transaction fee. Your bank charges you 3% because you are paying $15 a month to a company located outside the u.s.

Last month, my charge was .30 so I guess my bank charges 2%. I wont have to worry about that charge anymore because I canceled that pos.

THis is the correct answer. Its your bank charging for overseas activity

Not exactly, I am in Missouri USA and didn't get charged that fee unless I have a good bank and they don't charge for international transactions?

I am sure they will get it down pat, they managed to in AO. If they do however keep making patches and causing more issues I may end up leaving, or if there is no new content in a month or two(currently at 43).

So far I have solo'd all the way to 43, with a few pickup groups here and there out and about to kill some boss(yesterday happened to be 3 of us heading for the same boss, so we just grouped up and killed him). And people are willing to group if you ask for the most part its not hard to find ppl and I am on a PVP server(Scourge).

I would have to agree, I am at level 43 right now and still have plenty of quests. I did just start to dry up in Field of the Dead, then some guildmates mentioned trying Noble District where I found a lot more. Then at 46 head back to Field of Dead, so.. so far so good, we will see when I get up past 50 or so though..
