Why no game listing for Guild Wars 2

Why no game listing for Guild Wars 2
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/25/09 12:04:03 PM
They announced it over 2 years ago, showed the trailer at GC this year. The first book based on the time between the two games is coming out in Feb. I couldn't imagine them being that oblivious to it... http://www.guildwars2.com/en/ |

Why no game listing for Guild Wars 2
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/25/09 11:55:58 AM
This has been bugging me for a while, usually when MMORPG.com gets wind of a new MMO there it is put on the game list. But here is Guild Wars 2, it's been in development for two years now. The official site is up and running with information (yea not much I know) and yet it still does not appear on any games list on this site. Why is that, is there some reason they aren't listing Guild Wars 2? Or what is going on? |

Was reading through the article but a couple things to point out. First in the Guild Wars category, Guild Wars also has a strong female lead role, while Eve (the bondage chick, as you so tactfully put it) isn't necessarily that lead role, she does play a major role in the gameplay and lore. Devona was the lead female role, followed closely by Cynn (both can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94_U8byqTBg ) This was the same with Lineage 2, which you neglected to mention. Also you did not mention the role between the female characters and their cover art. Yes the box art is there to entice, but not just men. Give men the clevage, but give women the cover as a sign of empowerment. Also if you are going to speak on this compare the role of women in the game to box art, look at holistically; not fixated on what facet. You did mention how EQ and EQ2 don't fixate on that anymore, but neglected GW2. As well leaving out many other games that push the limits even further with the gameplay, like APB. I think your article was thus very one sided, and it saddens me to think there is still this kind of gender bias on the side of journalists. |

This is a video from ArenaNet at GamesCon, posted today and twittered from their official twitter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjmcwrF7Fhk They are going to announce something about GW2 at GC this weekend, something big. If you watch the video you can hear it in the background. BIG!! |

My concern is not so much with if Guild Wars 2 will be good or not or with release dates, My problem is with the fact there has been a complete lack of information regarding this game. Now I know game devs don't like to talk, but they at least give us something. Check the official releases and news on ArenaNet's site and NC Soft's site the last information we got from 2007. 2 years ago, we don't even know if they have started working on the game yet. Fine, take there time, build a good game; but don't neglect the fans, give us something to wet our appetite. Two years and still no news, and with the first book scheduled to be released early next year and two more to follow it, it sounds like at least another year before the game beta. That's a long time to keep us in the dark. http://www.killtenrats.com/2009/06/29/guild-wars-book-titles/ |

Windows 7 is coming out in a few months and beta is running right now and you can get in on beta until the final release... but if you don't want to do this, then run XP. |

I am guessing that they will have some classical RPG elements in game play but as is mentioned in the quote I think they are going for a more unique role per player feel. Sort of making you feel you are part of star wars. SWG seemed to make star wars trivial. The game felt small, compact, and non-canon. BioWare is aiming for the opposite effect, to have the game feel large, dynamic, and that you are playing a fignificant part of Star Wars history, not just playing; but making star wars history during a 150 year span when there is no history written in the SW galaxy. |

It has the potential to be the best MMO ever made... but the question is with EA now behind the reins of BioWare will it. It could end up as bad, if not worse then SWGs too. But simply the idea of it makes me scream like a lil teenage girl at a boy band concert.
Either way it's gonna be interesting.
The Importance of this post not so much being the visuals in the pics but the words in the pics. |

I have known about the existence of this game for over a year now, and all I can say is: OMG YES!!!!!!! <girlish screams> YYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! <coughs> Some sources from inside bioware suggest that the game client itself has been operational for about 6 months now and that BioWare Employees have been enjoying the pre-alpha stages of the game. Basicly they have been waiting on the end of the SOE/LucasArts contract before moving forward any further or making official announcements. So with that knowledge two things 1. please do not use any part of WAR in the game... 2. OMG YES!!!!!!!! <more girlish screams> As for it being in MMO form. The game itself with the Jedi Civil War lends to being the perfect point to pick up an MMO. The Jedi need numbers to rebuild thus will recruit individuals who are older, the galaxy is at its own throat with various feudal divisions. The sith are reorganizing as well and Revan went chasing after the 'True Sith' whatever that means. The game will probably pick up on the extremely openended ending from KotOR 2 (thank you Obsidian <sarcasm>). |

GW2 development has not even started NCSoft programers are currently tied up with Aion and although ArenaNet has finished the entire (or almost entire) design and look of the game, NGSoft has to produce the ppl to actually make it. So GW2 release date will set probably shortly after Aion comes out. My guess is late 2009 now, thanks to the fact that Aion kept getting pushed back due to problems with flight system, a horrid idea in my opinion. So if you want GW2 out sooner pray that NCSoft just decides to finally let Icarus (aka Aion) fly. Because the sooner it does the sooner it can burn and the sooner GW2 will be here. |

Still praying its about Odus. The graphics problems...yes they don't have quad-core or SLI support; but as far as crashing on high settings the only two places I have trouble even on the ultra is neriak (teleporters have memory leaks which demands 10+ gigs of RAM) and CBK (just a lil laggy) even with out the support the game looks great on ultra. But to cal you guys down they are supposed to add in that support before the november release date for EQ2:TSO. Looks to me like they are bringing back Najena as a dungeon. They also show Befallen and another dungeon in the preview video. It's on youtube i believe if you want to watch it. But I'll be buying it and playing it when it comes out. Dragging my SK, Ranger, and Bruiser around whatever they publish. Whether I stick to it will depend on how good it is and how good WAR is. |

I was looking forward to playing Dark Elf Black Guard, but it looks like that sin't going to be in the game at release :( so probably High Elf Swordmaster I think...or at least till Black Guard is released in the future. |

I won't play if there is any instancing!
General Discussion « Stargate Worlds 8/02/08 12:23:09 PM
First I wanted to define instancing and stop the confusion for a lot of players. Instancing is not the same as zoning. Instancing is having a zone, or multiple zones, that are seperated from the rest of the game world, and exist in an instanced part of time for just the character or characters that are currently present in the zone. There cane multiple instances of the same zone overlapping each other. Like each group having their own temporary parallel universe in which to play in. Zone: a small map or section of a game isolated by a loading screen or some other loading concept, aka a seem. That allows a game world to be broken down into chunks to make it easier for both players and computers to handle. Example: EQ2 maps Global: a massive zone or area that exists in a seemless world with no or few loading screen. Example: SWG Public: an area or zone shared by everyone in the game or on that server. Where people can meet and interact. Example: EQ Persistent: an area or zone that can be modified by players and exist in that modified form for an extended amount of time out side of the original players who modified it being there or not. Example: AoC Instance: an isolated zone or area only inhabited by a single player or party in which the zone exists outside the normal time flow of the game. Example: GW
Now with that out of the way I feel instancing is a neccesity for two reasons. The first is obvious lag and an over abundance of players. This is a common problem in dungeons in games. A dungeon that is not instanced can quickly become over run with players and these players are forced to fight each other for certain kills, as well it means more data to process in these, usually, more difficult areas. Second reason is this. In order to create a truly unique, original, and well scripted story based on the chracter you are playing as you need instancing. To draw you out of the world and put you in your own, unaffected by others, for at least part of your story, in order to make in more unique and personal.
Now I understand that to much instancing or instancing done poorly can be a bad thing. Example of this is Guild Wars where every map is instanced. You never run into other players making you feel very isolated from the rest of the world. But with out any instancing you could feel very over run.
So SGW do instancing, I think the game will be better because of it. If it means losing one public zone fanboy, I think it's worth it.
EDIT: As well in the series themselves there are times when chracters are pushed into alternate realities, parallel worlds, or even just wierd sci-fi concepts where they are isolated from the normal flow of time and can not contact or intereact with people in their own universe. Thus is one game should have instancing it should be this one, it would fit into the entire concept of the series. You get trapped in an alien device by your self and have to find your way out. etc. |

I play GW personally, and for one main reason, NO MONTHLY FEES, so don't need to worry bout not playing or account info. WoW sucks and is a cheap rip off of EQ2 so if you want something like that play EQ2. Played alot of others but I am cheap (plus started playing GW when it opened). Haven't played LOTRO, but have friend who has lifetime account that it's really good up to a point and it'll greatly expand in next to years.

Guild Wars is a naturally successful game for a few good reasons. Good story (excluding factions of course), good graphics(not superb but good), and no monthly fees. I usually miss the overall dungeon feel of most MMOs, but for the same reasons it lacks those things is the same reason i continue to buy and play it.
So Guild Wars 2, some of the changes suggested are no brainers and honestly I would like to see it and would most likely play it. However, I beleive thr rumored realses would be 2010, I would like to see alot more added to the original game (ie. more expansion like NF) and more development in that regards. I still think they are a ways off from the perfect game and would like to see all the little bugs worked out and I would also like to see new features added across all the existing versions out, such as endgame prophecies items. But if they are able to fix these problems I say bring on GW2. |
