It's a trade federation battle ship inside an apple store!

Ok not quite sure whats happening to allow so much open discussion about a closed beta.... have the rules changed around here ?

But that being the case I will chime and give my take... its not long...

Champions Online Expansion Pack, Star Trek Skins.

thats it.

You know having beta tested Cryptic products in the past, not in STOs, I kind of expect that.  Hrm... at least I will get some play time out of it when it releases, hopefully just enough to tide me over till TOR comes out then.

I think Cryptic just killed themselves. The beauty of their games isn't the higher lvl content, once you hit lvl 15 you end up going back and building another character anyways.  The cool part of their games is the character creator, not the end game content.  In fact given the option I would make my account lvl this just so I could go back after 15 lvls and rebuild my character over again and create new characters over again.

I think now I am going to get rid of my current sub with CO (which I was thinking about doing anyways) and just go this route.

Any eccentric quests, like some of the really odd ones from early TNG and TOS.  Like getting trapped in a 1920s style Vegas hotel on some alien planet and having to figure out a way to get out, or having some something that just seems completely out of context with the rest of the sci-fi setting.

Cool video.  Surprised STO hasn't tweeted it yet.  Is that Sylar's voice?

Darn it, already bought my costume set.  Only 9.99 on the NC Soft Store.  And yes, I look awesome!

Leave it to good ol Jack to open his mouth, shove his foot deep down his throat and screw up yet another cant miss IP.  I am interested in what IP can Cryptic completely destroy next.

Yea... here is your answer also. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6243795.html This really lends credence to a NWN MMO, that of course as Crpytic is the MMO company for Atari, Cryptic would be working on.

You know I don't really like this fact either, but it wasn't completely surprising.  Klingons were mostly a warrior race, fighting for pvp only makes since for them.  I was on the fence before about what to play when I get into the game, but I guess this article pushes me in the direction of playing federation.  Not something I particularly like, but once again not totally unexpected.

Someone on guru was nice enough to compile a list of Guild Wars 2 info that we already know. For those who do not know or who are interested in seeing what ArenaNet has planned for Guild Wars 2 its a must read. Enjoy!

Very good article.  Have read it several times.  I think hits the hammer on the head with a lot of the info.

testing 1 2 3

I don't like this idea either.  However, early showings of the MMO also had me being a skeptic.  For one point basing it in the middle of the SG1.  A game like this is the only logical outcome with what CME was trying to do, and like the article said will probably spell the end for SGW.

I think CME should have looked at approaching the game by getting involved as a subcompany to a bigger company.  I hate the idea, but it would have lended them the funds.  They should have gotten involved with NCSoft, Atari, SOE, or EA.  One of these larger companies pushing the game would have allowed it develop faster and be more complete.  Even if it at this point SGW releases it won't have the market strengths to compete with such major titles coming up like TOR, GW2, FFXIV, and so on.  I think at this point the game is unfortunatley a loss.  Which is sad considering the failure of every other Star Gate based game that has been developed.

I am kind of losing my hype over this game. Heard about it from a few friends and played GW1 with them, but the two trailers that have been pretty dissapointing IMO. Just doesn't give me that spark. Probably different for many of you but thats just how i feel.

Yea... that's really just you. At least your not one of those people that everytime GW2 gets on the most anticipated list on the main page a bunch of people create alt accounts just to vote it down.  MMORPG.com really needs to fix the way hype is determined.

I love it, looks amazing! The graphics are stunning, the dynamics of the lighting is really good.  I would have liked to have seen some more of the day night cycle, but I hear we will be seeing that in 2010.  As for release time NCSoft earning reports ear mark that only Blade and Soul will be released in 2010, so this is looking like a 2011 release :( I have chosen Sylvari as my race, probably Warrior (which they have hinted will still be a class) or something similar.  I am very excited about this.  I think I may also have to build a Norn at some point.  I really like their culture.

Really happy about this, strongly anticipating the last 2 class info for TOR on Dec 3rd.

I agree with the list, however I would also argue that this list be revised in about a year, as new MMOs that come out may knock a few down. Especially with games like GW2, TOR, STO, etc coming

As far as they go I agree with all the choices with few exception.  Those being Club Penguin and Maple Story, however that said I understand the reasoning for putting them on the list.

Guild Wars and LotRO focused heavily on good story telling, although people may disagree with their mechanics (I know I wasn't fond of LotRO's) they are both really well put together games, with excellent storyline, lots of play.  Both are stable games as well, with few flaws and a thriving players community.  That isn't to say they don't have their flaws, all games do (even WoW); but the positives of these games really out way the negatives.  Heck Vanguard had a really rough start, but has recovered quite nicely in more recent months.

Like I said I would like to see this list redone every year now, to see how things grow and change.

Guild Wars has always tried to expand on the concept of combining RTS values into an MMO world.  In fact that was much of the concept behind the OGW.  Where henchman take the place of other party member, but where strategic elements like limited spell hotbars, character position, secondary class, etc all combine into how the game is played.  This was evolved by nightfall and the addition of heros and the ability to flag heros and henchmans position for best strategic value.

In fact part of the reason for ArenaNet's existence is due to the fact that Mike O'Brien and Patrick Wyatt didn't like the lack of RTS elements in the development of WoW.

I like to hear that GW2 wants to keep that tradition alive by allowing massive WvW battles to be more like an RTS.  This is a form of PvP I think I could really get into, I like the idea, love the concept and really hope they can pull it off well.

I would adore a good vampire MMO.  Although make it a bit of a fight between vampires, lycans, and other evils.  Nothing buffy like, but something more  like Hellsing or Underworld.

Interesting, looks like I will be playing a tactical commander aboard a cruiser class ship.  This will give me high damage taking capabilities but also the ability push with a bit more high damage weapon capability.

Really like the third one, with what looks to be some sort of science vessel... However this game is third on my personal hype list, more excited for TOR.

In regards to the article:

Yes, absolutely right.  Anytime I go into an MMO I hear WoW this and WoW that, it is a turn off.  It automatically makes me think the person talking about has a limited perspective, that all they can relate to is WoW.  And more often then not I end up with the reply, "This isn't WoW," or "If you want WoW go play WoW!"  It infuriates me that some people have such a limited perspective on games that they can't relate to any other game with out their WoW Crutch.

Each game is different, yes there will be parallels between different games, but that's true of all games.  But each game is designed to be unique, and games that purely throw themselves at competing with WoW don't do well.  The game needs to be true to itself, when it is it can be the best game it can be.  And if it is the best game it can be then it can succeed, not because it relates to WoW, but because it is a great game.

I went to the dentist the other day. They cleaned my teeth and then offered a variety of extra services. I think if the extra services aren't part of the core game (ie, removing details and then selling then to you later) then I'm all for it.

Kind of like how SoE is doing it? I agree that it is a great idea but SoE has been flamed a critsized for doing this.

Yea and I think if they do it that way it will be great.  Either following the SoE trend of extra fluff stuff being what is available in the game store, or following the GW model for it as well.  Either of those MT based systems I think would work fine with in the TOR system.  However, if they follow a more Asian market strategy, where you have to have the MT stuff to be able to play, then I think that is bad.  'Yes you can be a Jedi, but to get a lightsaber you have to pay $20, no get a starship you have to pay $40, etc' I think that is a bad system.

I don't mind the MTs as long as I am not forced to invest in them in order to play.
