What was your most deep and intricate mmorpg you ever played?

I think the closest thing to "deep" or "intricate" for an MMO is Eve. Every other game only requires you to be able to read and breath to play, unless we are taking about certain aspects of PVP. *Drops Mic*

[Column] Guild Wars 2: Changing WvW
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/19/13 2:11:31 AM
Originally posted by Theocritus Riigghhht,.....because in trinity based games with PVP, the tank will taunt the enemy players who would be forced to beat on him for 6 seconds. Meanwhile the DPS is steadily backstabbing the enemy without any worries unless he really makes the enemy player mad. But if that happens he just kicks the enemy player in the junk who then immediately refocuses his agro on the tank unless the tank taunted him again already. Meanwhile the healer is hitting his heal button for the tank every 5 seconds or so. Does that sound about right? Of course not. Trinity does not equal strategy in PVP nor does it's mechanics really work in PVP anyways. The trinity was made for PVE. EA almost had it right in WAR, but of course the game as a whole ultimately failed. Besides, if everyone is an OP damage dealer like you claim, then it's up to skill and strategy to see who wins. I see it every day in WvW because I actually play the game specifically for WvW. Also, pretty much every other game I played had healing potions in PVP, so what's your issue with people healing themselves again? They can in other games too. Look I don't care if you don't like the game, but just because YOU can't figure out strategy in the game doesn't mean it isn't there. It just means YOU can't figure out the strategy. There is always WoW arena if you want trinity in your PVP. The rest of us will stick with WvW thank you.

Out of the released MMOs, I would say the theme parks are slightly more popular, or hotter. In those regards my list is: 1) GW2: people either love to hate it or love to play it as evident in these forums. 2) Rift: current f2p conversion is bringing back a lot of old players and attracting new ones 3) I would say it's tied among Neverwinter (still fairly new), AoW (still fairly new), and STO (new free expansion)
caveat: AoW is not really a theme park. More like a hybrid of both sandbox and theme park in my opinion |

The only two cents I can add about EQ2 is the crafting. That's probably the funnest crafting I have seen in an MMO. Your toon can actually get hurt and you have to pay attention during the actual process. I can't remember how useful the crafted items are though, but probably like most other MMOs, useless unless you want to sell certain niche items. Also there is just tons of quest content to do. You WILL be out-leveling quests left and right, so it depends on how much of a completionist you are.

Another faceroll easy MMO like GW2?
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 6/18/13 8:47:02 AM
Originally posted by Vunak23 Dude, it's OK if you find PVE mechanics hard and others don't. When you say that in PVP, "Most of the time it is based around FoTM builds/classes and RNG", you realize you are talking about raids too, yeh? You can probably find pretty much any boss fight for pretty much any MMO for pretty much any raid on youtube to show you exactly what to do. Nice try on trying to dismiss someone's experience because they don't share the same opinion as you. Way to to stay true to the MMORPG.com forums. And the whole thing about saying PvP is "rather easy" just because I say PVE is easy seems kind of childish, don't you think? I'm not trying to convince you that PVE is easy. Obviously you find aspects of it difficult, but don't be upset when others don't is all I'm saying. You think raids are hard, I get it. |

Originally posted by Vunak23 I'm sorry FFXI is hard for you I guess? What made it so difficult? Did the devs not put gear in the game for the players to survive the damage? Was the fight different every single time? Apparantly not if the devs put out a video. Seems more like balance was the issue. Yes, imbalance can make something hard, so if that is what you are talking about then fine. However, I never played one MMO yet that I thought was difficult. Sorry, but that's just how it is. I HAVE come across actual players in PVP though that are difficult to beat. |

General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 6/18/13 2:07:51 AM
Originally posted by Mtibbs1989 It's possible. The raids I experienced where dull and just an exercise of standing or moving to the right spot at the right time, and firing off the right skill at the right time. Sorry, that isn't hard. I'm not saying I'm a baddass, I just see raiding for the carrot on the stick that it is. I now rely on endgame PVP to keep me interested in a game. If they ever put in raids that allow other players to control the bosses (Age of Wushu has something similar for their instances) or if they weren't scripted events then maybe I would try them again. Unless it's for a chance at a piece of PVE gear, then I will still probably pass. |

Originally posted by Mtibbs1989 I stopped raiding a long time ago. It just became way to tedious. I realized I didn't feel the draw to raid for gear, so I could raid for gear, so I could raid for gear, so I could for gear anymore. And no, I didn't raid in EQ. What was so hard about it? Before you answer, just know that I don't consider scripted boss fights and skill rotations difficult. |

Yeh I really don't get people claiming one mmo is easier or harder than another. If you can read then playing an MMO should be a snap unless you have a physical or mental disability. I can understand some people having a hard time with the more recent action combat based games because that requires a little more hand-eye coordination, timing, and attention span but as a whole all MMOs are easy. If this game is, or any MMO for that matter is hard for you, then like the poster above said, maybe you should take a break for a while.

What has a higher population, Rift or lotro
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/17/13 8:47:08 PM
Originally posted by Theocritus Hmm, that's an interesting way to put it, but I think you are right. For now, Rift is the newest shiny. However, Lotro has the appeal of an established IP. Not to mention the Hobbit movies will be giving it injections of people for the next couple of years. The downside for Lotro though is how the content is gated through micro-transactions. Rift will probably hold strong for a bit, but honestly if you played WoW, Lotro, and Swtor, you will recognize the same game mechanics of trinity, quest hubs, and raids. Then it just comes down to which wrapping do you like better. |
