"Aion is a gorgeous MMORPG that's far too much of a grind" 1UP REVIEW

The 1up guy must be new to mmo's or used to the EZ mode which is what WoW is.. If he played 15 hours of aion and only reached level 10, then I'm sorry but he equals fail at playing MMO's..
After my first 7 hours of playing Aion, I reached level 12. The next day I played about 4 hours and reached level 15. So in 11 hours I reached level 15.. Currently my main is level 30 and my alt is level 14.. I have no problem with the grind. Most of the time I've been questing, exploring, grouping, and having fun I haven't even noticed the grind.. I'd also like to point something out. The game doesn't actually take off until you reach the Abyss at elvel 25.. I don't how this idiot can rate a game when they haven't even experienced a quarter of what Aion has to offer.. This 1up person fails, his rating fails, and matter of fact, 1up fails themselves for letting this moron give a professional rating on a game in which he didn't even play long enough to give an accurate rating.. It's like a food tester giving an F on a filet Mignon that hasn't been marinated, seasoned, and cooked for more than 5 minutes. The food tester takes it upon himself to throw a filet mignon on the grill, cook it for 5 minutes, eat it, then decides to give the food a bad rating... Well, that would be stupid, right? Same thing applies with the 1up testers review of Aion.. Friggin Idiot,,, Gaaawd! |

Instead of ranting like a little schoolgirl, why don't you just go play something you like instead of crying to others why you don't like Aion.... Cause seriously, you sound like a little WoW crybaby. Leave the Aion forums because your only wasting your time by posting this garbage.. I don't like Halo or counterstrike. I thinik both games are repetitive, boring, and stupid. But you don't see me going to the forums complaining about why I hate the game.. Doing so would be stupid, a waste of my time, and pointless.. Just stop crying and move on with your life,, geeeez. |

I'm so relieved to hear it gets harder and harder as you level! That means all the WoW kiddies with no patience will quit by the time they hit 26. What's even better is all the, complaining, idiot griefing fans of CS, Halo, etc will quit even before that! The grind doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I welcome it.. Aion already reminds me of old style EQ where it took a LONG time to reach 50 back when the game was first released. You think 8 hours to level is bad??? Try a week of 6hour + grinding each day during hell levels just to go from 30-31,,,,, 35-36,,, 40-41,,, 45-46,, etc! I kid you not. It took me a good week to level one level during hell levels which basically took you twice as long to level than other regular levels. Even the non hell levels took a good 16+ hours of nonstop grinding to level! This is one reason why only the dedicated true hardcore fans of EQ reached max level. These same people understood what respect, honor, and kindness meant to one another. You didn't see a bunch of us running aroud trying to steal mob kills, roll on rare boss loot they cant use out of greed, nor did you see them ks someone's camp. The types of people who do this won't be the ones playing Aion past 25. And I say to you mmo killers, don't let the door hit u on the way out..
I'm here to stay :) |

Exactly! I messed around enough with the CC system in open beta to have a good idea of how I want my toon to look like. It will take me no more than 5 minutes to create my gargantuan demonic red haired Asmodian with horns.. Unless NC Soft adds more customizable features at launch. But I believe there's so much to offer as it is now. Whats really cool about the CC system is you don't have to make a ordinary good guy/bad guy human. The options are limitless and it definitely adds to the roleplay aspect of the game. With some imagination, you can pretty much create your own favorite race such as Human, Dwarf, Dark Elf, High elf, Gnome, Demon, Goblinoid, etc... |

Thankfully I gave Aion another shot when Open beta began. The graphics are probably the best I've ever seen in a MMO, especially the terrain, landscape, and player models. The combat system is fun, the animations look nice, and it seems very polished now. That's reason enough for me. :) I also got my cousin and a couple friends to quit WoW for Aion. I'm looking forward to the 20th when I get to start early. :) |

A while back I stated what I didn't like about Aion. Some of the things I didn't like a couple months ago seemed to have been fixed and tuned since then. When I played in Closed Beta for 20 minutes, I felt the character models looked very good, but the terrain such as the trees, water, and landscape looked worse than WoW's.. This really turned me off from the game. I guess the graphics I saw in closed beta must have been in low settings as they are in most mmo game in beta testing. After redownloading the game for open beta, I take back ALL my negativie comments. After creating a character and cranking up the graphics, I appeared in a forest and took a few moments to take everything in. The graphics are by far the BEST I've ever seen in ANY mmorpg on the market now. Player models are so polished and detailed the newbie armor/weapons look better than WoW's end game epic gear. The detail is just so amazing. As I began to look for mobs to fight, I couldn't help left clicking and holding down my mouse to scan the insanely gorgeous landscape. How the sun beams down through the perfectly detailed trees is just mesmerizing. I enjoy the combat system. The spells and animations are nice. The UI is similar to most mmo's like EQ2, Vanguard, WoW, etc. The experience I'm receiving is similar to hwo I felt the first time I logged into the original Everquest 10 years ago! Now I'm glad I pre ordered Aion! Can't wait until the 20th. :) Those that haven't checked it out already should really look into trying to open beta. You have nothing to lose but the time it takes to download. :P |

What turned me off from Aion within the first hour of playing it like a month ago was, The terrain looking worse than WoW's, the childish pokemon looking monsters, and the ground textures being so awful.. What I did like was the combat system and player models. I really hope they at least fix the ground textures and tune up the terrain graphics such as the trees and structures I've seen so far.. I thought this game was supposed to look gorgeous. So far it looks half gorgeous and half sloppy. Which is a turn off for me. |

My first impressions of Aion were not very good. After reading all the hype and excitement over the game, checking out some pvp vids, and knowing about it's development for the last 3-4 years, I decided to pre order the game and couldn't wait to try it out. I hate to sound so negative but,, personally I don't think it will be very successful in North America. Lineage was and still is very popular in the asian market but didn't do so well over here. I tried it, enjoyed the graphics but hated the gameplay. I lasted about a week.. After trying Aion this weekend, nothing impressed me. For starters, I don't understand the hype, glamour, and just can't see what others supposedly do regarding the graphics. Honestly, Vanguard, LOTRO, and even EQ2 looks better. I have a 8800 GTS Graphics card with a 1440-900 LCD 19 inch monitor in which I cranked the settings all the way up,,, or as high as they can go in Beta. The trees look to cartoonish similar to WoW, bleh! The water looks childlike and not as clear, real, and gorgeous as other games like EQ2, Vanguard, and LOTRO.. The player models look bland, dull, not diverse enough, and everyone looks pretty much exactly the same. The monsters I've seen so far looks as If they should be in pokemon,, very very childish. One thing I do like about Aion is the combat system and cool animations. I love the idea of a fun combo combat system and this is the only reason I haven't uninstalled the game,,,,,, yet... But the combat system alone won't save the game for me. It felt as If I was playing a manga anime, and not a true traditional eXciting MMORPG. I believe Aion will not be huge in North America. Once true oldschool EQ and DAOC vets check out the game, I'm sure most of them will see what I see and that highly anticipated smile will quickly turn into a upsetting frown. Being an Avid MMO Vet, I most likely won't play Aion this September unless my other half insists I play,, which I hope not.. The next game on my most anticipated list is Mortal Online.. I'll get the chance to test that out on the 3rd of August.. Hopefully I won't be as disappointed with that as I was with Aion. |

Aion's Downfall: Too much RNG, Simplicity, and Broken?

I was going to say the same exact thing. Although, I understand what the poster is trying to say. DOn't let a computer decide our fate, the player's skills should decide. Ok fine, I get that. BUT, even in skill based mmo's like Ultima Online, sometimes luck played a huge part in victory or defeat. Lets say a Macer was fighting a mage. The macer has hmm, 75% Magic resist and the Mage only has, hmm, 50% evade. The macer swings his Mace 3 times and somehow misses 3 times. The mage casts flamestrike and fireball twice each and hits all 4 times. The macer = dead. Well I'd say the mage got "lucky" since the Macer's magic resist was higher than the mage's evade but those percentages aren't 100% now are they? In the end, those numbers are still randomly generated by a "computer" but maybe not as bad as how you explain Aion's RNG.. Personally, I'm still willing to give the game a shot since the animations, combat system, and graphics all look pretty darn impressive. For me, it's going to come down to Mortal Online or Aion. Both have their own pro's and cons, but Aion seems like it wil be much more fun. Just like 5 years ago when the choice was EQ2 or WoW. I chose EQ2 because of the graphics and for being a long time EQ player, but I jumped ship a few months later and WoW turned out to be the more exciting product,, at the time.. |

Outrageous... $75 for the normal version? $115 for full-loot version? Obama... I need a bailout!

I seen the 54.95 and thought it was USD at first before seeing the Euro symbol. When I realized it was actually 75 USD, I sighed a little bit but ahh well. I'd rather have the boxed version than saving 20 bucks and waiting a week for the Digital download,, which most likely would drop me down to Beta Block D or worse.. So, for those who want to save 20 bucks, wait for the Digital download, but those who want the retail box, access to beta a month or more earlier, and don't mind shelving out 20 more dollars, go purchase the boxed version asap! |

For some reason, I didn't get in Beta Block A, guess I just missed the cutoff, *shrug* instead I'm in Beta Block B which starts on the 3rd of August.. Personally, waiting a couple weeks will probably work out better for me.. Anyway, those that order the game now will most likely be put in Beta B until those 2000 slots fill up. Just to warn those who may freak out,,, under subscription it says it runs out on August 14th, lol. The Devs or someone over in account management control needs to fix this or at least make a note of this so people don't get confused,, lol. |

That's not an MMORPG.. I was hoping TOR would be a real MMORPG where thousands of people interact with one another within the game world. I enjoy quests and a nice storyline, but If I wanted to play a structured story driven RPG, I sure as heck wouldn't pay 15 dollars a month to do so. I don't mind TOR being very story driven and quest oriented, but some of the things I've heard about the actual gameplay causes me to raise my eyebrow in worry. Such as, the majority of the game can be completed solo, but some of the quests require a "few" friends to complete.. Now, I don't know what few means, but I surely hope this isn't going to be like a diablo mmog where u can do everything by yourself but If u wanna hang out with friends, it's your choice but not necessary. To me and many veteran MMORPGamers that's not what we call a true MMO.. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on TOR, in fact, I hope it will be a masterpiece. And I wish it will become the savior of the MMO genre. But, as of now the game sounds like a 90% single player RPG with very few EQ, WoW, DAOC, etc MMO features. That's not enough to make me pay to play.. Hope I'm wrong. |

The only problem with MO not having a "/whisper" function

I use vent and or TS when I have to during Raids or If the guild requires me to, but I HATE being in vent all the time. There's times where I can't and don't feel like hearing those cheetos crunching, slurpy sipping, incredibly loud and obnoxious guildmates. EVERY guild has at least a few of them people! There's times I like to relax, focus, and or listen to music while I play. Personally, I'm not trying to hate on MO, but not having a whisper function is going a little overboard with it's attempt at creating a super realistic MMO.. That and not having a 3rd person view is my biggest problems with the game.. I'm not playing a FPS game. I'm sick of devs trying to incorporate as many FPS elements into newer MMO's.. That's what's really destroying the Genre.. But, guess that's a different topic for a different day..

The only problem with MO not having a "/whisper" function
General Discussion « Mortal Online 6/30/09 12:10:45 PM
I'm surprised to hear there will be no whisper function in MO.. Almost as shocked as I was to hear there will be no 3rd person mode.. Actually, come to think of it, not having those two features implemented is just like not having the run feature implemented. You need them in any mmorpg. One thing I'd like to know is, will there at least be a guild and group chat function? If not, then I won't even bother wasting my time with this one,,,, I don't care how promising and awesome the game sounds.. It's a shame because the concepts, graphics, races, classes, etc all sound impressive. But not implementing simple common and much needed features will force me to keep a long distance away from this one... :( *sigh* |

To the OP. While some of those things bothered me, I still enjoyed the game for about 10 months before deciding to quit. I hit level 60 in about a month of hardcore playing, got into one of the best guilds on Arthas server, and raided MC/ONYXIA CONSTANTLY until most of the guild was geared appropriately. Then BWL went live, and the rinse + repeat happened all over again. Same boss loot grind, different area. There was nothing else to do in the game. I ran ALL the instances, and even started running places like UD Strat, UBRS, just for the 1/10000 chance of getting the undead mount and epic dagger from UBRS.. The only actual end left was to keep raiding BWL just for upgradeable equipment, but most of the t2 stuff was pretty much similar with T1 gear.. I mean, it was in MC for a while before Blizzard took it out and put it in BWL. So one day I said to myself, I've done everything possible in WoW, but there's just not enough fun content to keep me interested. The raiding has become boring, there's no incentive to keep playing. So I quit and went back to EQ2 where there was a TON more content.. I never went back to WoW even though I did read about the new expansions.. Basically same grind, different ways to go about it. *shrug* ALOT of the people were annoying little rejects, but what really caused me to leave was the fact the game became super boring and repetitive.. |
