Yes, I believe time is a factor, but it's more the company than how much time they have. AoC took how long, 4 or 5 years to develop? WAR has only taken 3 and it's a more complete game. This means Mythic is better at making MMOs than Funcom, but I'm sure Funcom would be better at making single-player RPGs than Mythic (since Mythic is strong at "team" stuff - hence RvR).

War is not even out yet. So how you can reason who is better is moot amongst many other factors.

415K subs as of 2 weeks ago is not something to sniff at either.

If FC was so bad and EVERYONE knew how bad they were, why did AoC break all previous pre-order sales for an mmorpg? When we talk complete we talk about missing content, its the same with both companies. Funcom has made very successful single player RPG's, Mythic hasn't. The only company that can make RvR games is Mythic (trademarked) and look at how Daoc bled over the years with its awesome RvR.

Different games appealing to different segments at the end of the day. AoC has no DX10 nor PvP system yet. Warhammer got pushed out the door early by EA with missing cities and classes (announced after CE went on sale). And for those that mock FC for showing dx10 at Leipzig, watch when Mythic next year shows the missing cities.

But they came in at $1m more revenue than was forcast the previous Quarter. So if FC are predicting $16-$20m now, wonder what it will end up as. People said AoC will hit 200k subs way before release and now just because 2 weeks back was 415k lots of people are upset. It could very well simmer down to 200k. Head Honcho's at FC have sold lots more stock over the past 2 yrs.

Have you any proof? I find it funny that you brought the failcom logo to these forums and made 215 negative posts in just 13 days since you joined here. Something screams strange to me more than someone like Protus on the official boards thats all im saying, you know, like imagine spock's eyebrow raising up. OCD?

You complain about posts been deleted when the one you make here is borderline here.

Paid trolling is a term thrown around by people who have no clue and generally used by Asian Grinder mmo companies where they pay you in game time to go post about the game and bad against others. Just like the attempted blogs that get deleted here.

Why do people troll the official boards each day if they have no interest in the game, to have interest means something has to be appealing, if its not game related, nor community involvement then what type of person is that?

Avery I have nothing against you at all, you actually seem to be a likable fellow and you never resort to personal attacks on others or stupid crap like that.

To answer your questions here, I was kinda mad at Funcom because I got screwed. Look in my post history to see how I got screwed, I made a topic a few months ago to talk about it (the name of the thread- "My long list of problems with the game".) The reason I read the official boards each day is for amusement, to see what lies and hype Funcom creates next. They love to dangle those carrots, more so than any other video company I've seen.

I think a lot of us haters wanted to like this game, we really did. But when Funcom failed to deliver, it left a bad taste in our mouths because they promised so much, and delivered so little. And then had the nerve to compare their game to WoW as being steak compared to a greasy hamburger. It's these and a lot more reasons that Funcom is feeling the heat right now.

Ok, so my question is where do we go from here? There will be people who have moved on, yes of course there is! X-fire stats are down, yes they are. People are not seeing things fixed quick enough for them, this upsets them more. When some things are fixed it breaks other things.

Can the game be improved? Whats left for the people who play the game and like it? Is there things that will entice people back? or to little to late?

Do Funcom need to be honest more with AoC players? Yep

Do we need more communication? Yep

I don't want to say too much as things are upcoming in correspondent article but maybe they will answer some of these questions - and yes - I did ask them to be honest, so we shall see what happens. (and no I don't have the answers yet!)

What can we do for those still in game to keep them there? I think there are many reasons evident to Funcom, so its up to them now to make good, to put the wrong, right. I think they did this with AO, amazing turn around, will people still be around when this happens? or to be proper here - "IF" this happens (I think it will for the better)

Um no, that's not what my post was about. My post was about the attitudes of the fanboi's at the official forums. If you play the game that's great. I wish I could enjoy the game too, but I have standards. Especially when it comes to customer service that companies provide.

*And no, I was not calling anyone a douche bag except for the people who posted rude comments in those links that I posted. Sorry for the confusion.

And i am sorry for reading it wrong and getting a different impression.

I think you made a good post, but it makes me wonder, because you always say "They are working on it", or "They are taking feedback", or "In an upcoming patch.."

How much patience do you have AA? Must be a mountain full. As the MMORPG GC elect, I understand your subscription is paid, so you have no financial concern. I can accept you like the game and are giving them time, sure. I have to wonder how many months after release are you willing to give them to get the game in release shape?

Do you not have a problem with rampant gem dupes and other exploits not being addressed? Do you really accept the PvP system wasn't supposed to be in at launch....in a PvP-centric game?

I guess I am "Amazed" at you Avery. You seem like a smart, nice enough guy, but man, you have an endless supply of unwarranted good will to FunCom.

He did label in his opinion that douchbag fanboi's (people who say the game has potential) - pretty wide sweeping statement I think.

I have passed on a ton of feedback to FC direct from these boards in the past couple weeks, so I know they are taking things on board, and I am waiting for that to come back to me in an official capacity. Server specific forums which discuss Sieges in particular (as one example) had dev's on it providing feedback asking about new issues that cropped up as well as links and people explaing things when petitioned and answers.

I am a patient guy. I do not get my subscription paid by anyone except by myself, and that was out of the wifes allowance ;) I paid 6 months upfront, due for renewal Xmas Eve. What people like yourself and the OP are having trouble with is those in game, playing the game with all these issues and still having an "ok" time (including myself) I will re-evaluate my sub status in December. For now I think I getting my monies worth, but it should of been a lot more worth. I agree, but im doing fine for now. I am also anticipating the forthcoming updates too.

Gem dupes from what I hear are on the test live server and not in the main game or are in the main game at less of a level. Do I have a problem with that? Forsure I do. I have experienced this in other games? Yes I have. I played Runescape back in early 2001, what happened there? Party Hats were duped and sold for millions of gold, the game got more popular, the duping stopped and people were banned. How long did it go on for? about a year.  Was the economy screwed in that time? Yep. The game population doubled in size during that period though. Not matter the game is crap (personally speaking for many reasons) its still a fair comparison, because I believe FC will fix the Dupe stuff soon before the economy is fubared more being a new game.

PvP system, was talked about in length before release, the only thing Erling talked about (month or so prior to launch) was that their are levels and gear. And thats about it. Did it make it to launch? no, will it still come out? Yes of course but improved upon and different in mechanics that was talked about. So in essence we had the basis of something that should of been therebut wasn't, but we are getting a lot more than what was said before release. So im upbeat for that, but I can make it thru till that happens, yes I am sad it didn't make it in for release as the public perceived. I felt a bit let down, I am on a PvP server afterall. Content, game issues aside, I still getting monies worth from the game.

If its ok to counter with my own in an alright fashion and not being labelled as something negative for having that opinion, then I'm all for conversation. While I appreciate that enough is enough for some, and can see where people are coming from there, my own experience is similar and I can relate, thing is I have a different outcome and I don't think that is bad at all.

forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

-People saying mounts are useless and others respond by saying "That's only the low level horses, the more expensive ones are better". Which, as we all know, is a huge lie. Siege mounts that are worthless in sieges, that's Funcom for you.

You know what the real problem with AoC is, in my hallowed opinion? The douche bag fanboi's that try to convince others that this game has "potential." Well like another forum poster said, my turd has potential too. It could be used as a fertilizer or as a natural fuel for cars.

In closing, Bill O'Reilley says it best about AoC. www.youtube.com/watch

You know no matter what issues the game has there are people playing it, loving it and enjoying it. Just because their views about the game don't fully correlate with your own or anyone with a "failcom" avatar doesn't mean we should call people names, as gamers we should respect each others opinion.

"Doucebag" name calling aside, there is more provocation to people who like the game from those that don't. It gets pretty hard to talk even about the game itself without people popping in a thread and taking it off topic.

You bring some points up for reference in your post, but really the 120 people one I think is just silly. Made by Octa who posts here? Tick every zone but it doesn't add all the instances up of each zone does it?

Did you know that a lot of guilds left, broke up, or merged because they couldn't deal with the game mechanics in working together to get resources for a City or Battlekeep? I would also look at that one thread you linked as 1, people haven't logged in for 4-5days. 2, doesnt list guild name, 3. I love warhammer post, 4, admission he left the guild 2 weeks ago, wtf? 5. Bring up insulting someone about gaypride colours. how can he tell if no one logged in for past 4-5 days. Smells like BS and thats just my opinon. I would argue that when it came down to it some people could just not be asked here. Guilds losing people, yes that is going on, its noticeable in mine but no where crippling, I feel confident in saying that pretty much sums up the majority of guilds on my server too.

How can this be looked at constructively? First I would revamp the whole guild system, options and U.I. to promote most social interactions, rather than solo play for greed. Bearing in mind FC have already acknowledged this feedback and are working on changes. To little to late? maybe for some, but those same people need to realise that there are those still in game plodding along having a good time. You want to call me a douchebag for waiting for a change to something that needs improvement, but can make do with it for now?

Siege mounts now do more damage in sieges after a patch in a few weeks back, in the newsletter they are working on making them more worthwhile, from several server particular posts with feedback right from the inital ones. Calling them worthless is to much opinion in the wrong direction if you ask me. Mount feedback is great, at least its constructive, and these things are always in motion and needs looking at. Mounts are a definate area for improvement. Having a Horse and getting knocked off? Knockback resistance levels? Type of horse? level of person/ mob knocking off rider from horse?

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what people think about the game, there will always be those that  enjoy it for what it is. Most mainstream media acknowledges constructively that the game has more promise and if delievered would be 'a vast improvement' or 'making the game better' (depending on the review).

What is so wrong that people can't appreicate / accept / acknowledge / respect others? is it because people got burned so bad in their opinion? or is everything jaded? or they took the hype right in and it didn't equal expectations? just asking.. Why do people troll the official boards each day if they have no interest in the game, to have interest means something has to be appealing, if its not game related, nor community involvement then what type of person is that?

In closing i do understand that some people take it to heart in feeling they were let down, but to ignore everyone is shortsightedness at best.

If your friend cancels, problem is solved forever. If he doesn't cancel, they will just ban him for something else. And delete all your posts about it. Do the right thing.

Game hate FTW. The op didn't state his friend disliked the game, just didn't understand the ban.

An eye for an eye never works, sure he can cancel, any game would ban someone for calling people the same names as Die Scream thinks he might of said.

So it looks like they put a temp ban on for the right thing, but if they never, there still would of been a complaining post of some kind right. So did they do the right thing?

Well let's all thank you for letting us know that.

OP, if your story is truth, I'd say there is a 99% chance your friend called the guy a Fag or homo or something. In fact, i'm 100% sure.

Tell your friend to cancel, send a real msg to them and on the survey he can tell them why.

He doesn't need to cancel, he needs to possibly learn how to retaliate without breaking the EULA which he accepted. Mature game or not doesn't give people the right to use words like that.

Is that whats in the gibberish at the bottom of it ?.

If you have played an online game before then you would of accepted one :)

I think a bigger area of constructive concern is the resource up keep for BattleKeeps and the rising cost of gems. In early game economies though there is always something people want for a short period until the inevitable nerf hits right? I think that there is plenty scope for improvement in crafting for starters, but I do think FC have a real good stance and actioned positive views against the gold seller. I mean who can forget the chinese gold farmer quest in game

wish i would have seen you when i was on cimmeria avery.  would have been a very short meeting.

Ooooh! *snap!* No he didnt!!

<other cliche quips!>

EDIT: Let me add, I would seriously like to see some other vids Avery. Maybe you could have a weekly summation of vids from some top guilds, that'd be kinda neat for a bit.

I know quite a few people are not into RP, and obviously a lot of people here have current and previous issues with the game that provoke pretty strong emotions. So I understand if people here think that this stuff isn't for them or that they have no interest in it because its Age of Conan. However, I'm sure there are some here that would enjoy the occasional update :)

But if we can look past this for a moment as we are all gamers and should respect each others opinions and gaming habits, likes and dislikes, or at least appreciate tastes. As Cimmeria server is an RP one, word has it that a lot of guilds will be doing this sort of thing in different contexts in experiences between them. I'll keep us updated here for those interested of course.

As I was talking about earlier there is some pretty big rivalry and some major 'characters' on Cimmeria. I hope my guild can do one as well as RP bad guilds like Murder Herd. There is talk for this thing to happen after sieges and in contested area's like Kheshetta and Black Ring.

I will also keep an eye on other RP servers too. This vid seems to have inspired a lot of chat on the subject. Quite a few guilds hold events on Cimmeria weekly and bi-weekly, I'll see if I can put something together :)

"The Guardians take prisoner the former Barbarians of Ironwolf whome are then judged and sentenced to perform initiation."

You know when it comes down to it, I love my server of choice. Cimmeria, RP-PvP. There never seems to be a dull moment, there is always conflict, always backstabbing and for the most part decent server community.

Some guilds RP the bad and others typically the good guys. Each wouldn't be good without the other, and this makes for some very interesting happenings.

In this video (made by The Guardians) we see former "Barbarians of Ironwolf" guild members captured for thier crimes (they play one of the bad guy guilds on the server) marched across some of Hyboria, punished, then initated as new members of The Guardians. Personally I would of just killed them, haha!

Stuff like this doesn't happen often, but it does happen and can be quite interesting to watch in game. There is also a bit of back story to this, with the Barbarians of Ironwolf, however, suffice to say they will be better people for being with the Guardians now!

Well here is the link for the video, quality is not the best and you cant see the chat at times, however, if your not into RP and new to the Conan world, then here is a glimpse of Aquilona. Enjoy  :)

Lets take an example...

When you get to lvl 40 you have the change to buy mounts.  Sadly the basic mounts + riding skills costs 3 gold.  At the same time... most players have around 50-70 silver at the most.  without buying anything - and taking all loot.

Atm players are lvl 50-55 before they can actually buy a basic horse in the game.  And the good horses.... THey cost 250 gold !!!

Does anyone see where this is leading in terms of goldfarmers ?

PPL spend real money to pay for the sub of a MMO.  They spend real money and got free rhino out of it.  PPL WILL spend real money to get mounts at the prefered lvls in AOC.  What kinda navie and stupid ppl are in charge of this game?

Hi there,

Do you still play the game? I wouldn't be so brash to call them stupid ..

Just to let you know the price for mounts dropped OVER a month ago to 75 Silver  :)  When was the last time you checked?

If you did all the main quests to that point (lvl 40) you will have 75 Silver give or take 10 or so.

Armored horses are just 50G

Regular 75S with 25S for basic training

And 150G for the new Swift ones.

For those interested about mounts should read here: http://conanvault.ign.com/wiki/index.php/Mount_Guide

Thanks!

I'm very interested in playing and would like to get some insight on server population, stability, and fun factor..  I know there are a lot of things funcom failed to reach so far, but I would really like some postives also. thanks

Some people here have serious issues with the game and will do anything to get you not to try it nor understand there are many people still enjoying the game. Before launch these same people amongst others pointed out AoC will have around 200-250k subs when it settles. I believe its above that, but I can not prove it just as people can't prove otherwise. I'm going of the population I see in game as a current subscriber. I mainly play on Cimmeria, content lvl 40 and up is Top Heavy say to the Tortage 1-20 area. I havent crashed in a few weeks now, last time was the "red line" lag bug. Somepeople still report it, but in my experience in a guild of a few hundred its becomming less and less frequent now but still happens.

It seems you are already aware of where FC have let us down and in which area's so far. Yet your also asking for what is good about the game. And your right to be interested it has a good amount to offer.

If your willing to pay $2.99 for the download I'll send you a buddy key so you can make your mind up yourself. Just send me a PM with your email addy and I'll forward one to you asap.

A good place for research is here: http://forums.tentonhammer.com/forumdisplay.php?f=436

Don't you realize that continuing the falsehoods, is just going to continue to lead to negative experiences for people after investing the time in the game?  It looks like you are willing to do anything it takes to feed more subs to AoC.  Short run that may help, but long run it will be even more damaging as more people continue to be misled.

Every person has a right to support whatever game they want, but deliberately misleading people when you wear an "official" title on the MMORPG boards is just flat out wrong.  I hope the Admin around here get around to reviewing your posts some day.  I understand they have a ton of boards, but they seem to be pretty even-minded folks in the posts I've seen from them.

Misleading people into thinking that Funcom's technical issues have improved, or that most people don't experience them in one form or another is clearly incorrect.  There's a reason why the Technical Issues board is the second largest forum on their site.   If you play the game and do any end game content (perhaps that's the problem - you don't).....you know that the seiges are a mess, and many can't do pve raiding either due to issues such as latency spiking.  If anything, these problems have gotten worse, not better.

Again that is just your opinion, and we have a difference of opinion, with your teling me I'm wrong and your right. Im sorry but I have seen an improvement from say 1 to today in my own personal experience (which I did state mate). That is not misleading, thats offering my 2 tin, just like you are. The forums where I linked have populated tech forums. In fact I have sat thru laggy siege after siege - you can check my post history like "Admin" did and find nothing wrong.

Issues are still their but they are better than day 1's issues.

You know I have seriously considered making a video in game of say 5 hrs straight then people can really see issues I have - or lack of them I should say - that would be something I could not of said last month. Whether you would watch for long long I doubt it.
