Turbine should be counter sued for the travesty they subjected us to with DD0. It's the worst thing they could have done for a D&D MMO.

All that's wrong with MMOs? Seriously? The game is quick to get into, not bogged down in minutiae which gives you more time to focus on story, characters and fun. Some might find charts and wheels and all other of manner of ways to organize things fun to deal with but I'd imagine most people don't.

I've been playing D&D for a very long time and until 4e came out I was a stanch 1st ed AD&Der. 4e streamlined the play in the areas it needed to and I've since switched to it. The game play sessions are much more playing now than trying to figure out if you hit or not or crit or any manner of thing that requires rolls and charts.

Frankly I think the game has more of a board game mechanic than mmo though it has a mix of some of the terminology of each.

No it's not the original D&D but people said the same thing when they came out with Unearthed Arcana back in the 1e days.

Classless games have less variety than classed games. Why? Because people do what is easiest and once a "best path" is figured out they all do it. Tank-mage, yehaw.

Dont forget EvE online, its surpassed WAR back in january with 300,000 active subs. Not sure if that puts them at #2 or #3 all depends on LOTRO's sub numbers.

Surpassed Warhammer with 300k subs in January? Eh? In January Warhammer had like 750k players. It wasn't till after that it went DOWN to 300k (I am one of those people that left).

I know EvE guys like to preach about how great it is but seriously.

As to Aion, I've enjoyed what I've seen so far but it's a PVP game, it won't be remotely near the scale of WoW. I'll be playing it. It might put the nail in Warhammer and it might be 2nd place but I just can't imagine it'll be very popular for long due to the PVP focus.

LOL, 10 years, 2 spin-offs and all of the shows were crap spin-offs of a cheap movie.  IP had fail all over it from the get-go.
Couldn't hold a candle to more interesting IP's like Farscape, Dr. Who, Lexx and a few others.

Stargate has great potential as an MMO. It could be a Scifi and Fantasy MMO all in one from the simple fact that once you hit the gate you can go anywhere. Not sure how that is a "fail". The series on TV were good as were the spin-offs, all of which got good ratings for their markets.

Farscape as a MMO, now there is your so called "fail". Other than running away from the galactic police what else is there to do. Lexx? Seriously? Just name it Star Trek and don't make it silly. Doctor Who? I am the biggest Doctor Who fan... seriously. The similarities between Stargate and Doctor Who are very nearly the same except for one big problem... the Doctor wouldn't be into fighting. Name an MMO w/o fighting that's worth a crap. Please don't say webkinz ;)

I don't think that's what he means. Yes, you can level to max via PvE only in PvE "mostly" territories. You can't avoid PvP entirely, since rifts are random. You do get forewarning about a rift opening in you area though, so you should be able to plan accordingly.

The problem is that the game world isn't that large and there is no redundant PvE content. If your zone is invaded, that's going to be the only zone for your level range. Your choice will be to log off.

Or we could go the way of a nice large world like 'Warhammer',  where you can choose to avoid the main purpose of the game.

That's gotta be a joke.

Warhammer's main purpose was suppose to be RVR but even in end game it's mostly PVE keep swaps or PVE in their new LoTD zone.

Don't use Warhammer as a example of good gaming to hold up to others. They got some good things in the game but end game RVR is not one of them.

Aion would do well to not force PVP on people in PVE zones specially when it's the only place you can go to level. Give people options... not giving it to them will just drive people away when they get tired of being ganked by higher level people while they are simply trying to level up.

Like his former game "Wish" this article is a flop. It's like he's making it up as he writes. Why he has to project his experiences on everyone else is beyond me.

RP servers exist, for a reason. People want an environment more conducive to RPing. I dunno what game Dana played on that ruined his RP experience but whatever it was it left a massive scar as anyone can easily tell by reading this article.

People role-play. Whether you consider is RP or not doesn't matter.

Sorry for the "Wish" jab but that game was seriously a train wreck.

Short of me calling my credit card company is there an easier way to cancel this game? It's nice but frankly i dont need another WoW.

Thanks for the help, if any.

I smell a fat greezy troll.

I watch population on both sides, it is in fact growing.

That's sorta odd, because I am pretty sure opinion is not FACT.

I think that we're talking about two different things here. So I will attempt to explain my point in a different way.
Gameguard does not work. It does not prevent botting. It does not prevent hacking or exploiting. It is very easily turned off, bypassed and tricked.
Besides the fact that it does not work, the software also causes problems for some users. Yes, we can report issues to INCA or NCSoft and maybe they will get fixed in a month or two... However, since the software does not do what it is designed to do, why do we even need to deal with it?
To summarize:
Gameguard doesn't work and causes problems. Please remove.

If it's so easy to bypass and turned off then just turn if off and your problem is resolved. If infact it's NOT easy to turn off it DOES prevent people from cheating and your other post was just a lie.

My only hope is this will improve Warhammer. I still can't play the game much at all and really want to like it. T4 advancement (gear or renown) in oRVR is almost non-existent and CC is just making the game not fun.

... the early game is one of the grindiest pieces of trash I've ever seen,...

Why is it every single person that says the game is a grind don't have a single shred of evidence to backup their claim?

The game plays like just about every other Western mmo as far as leveling. You quest, you level and the pace is similar to some of the most popular Western MMOs.

*Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10

Please tell me how this is any different than WoW/Lotro or EQ2? The leveling pace in Aion is the same as WoW and ... surprise you don't "grind out mobs to level" you can do quests which offer pretty substantial EXP rewards. In fact the leveling is no different than WoW/EQ2/Lotro so unless you consider those grinds (and I think the majority of players would disagree with you) it's not a grind.

I just get tired of people saying it's a grind... Now if you consider WoW a grind then your scale is just broken. Based on some of what you said I wonder if you've even played in the beta.

I personally think the thing that will get me to play this game on release is the setting, the pvp system and how well the game runs. WoW, LOTRO and even WARs PVP system are all badly designed or run. I'm looking for a better game.

what's the point of even putting in game guard. That thing is useless. WoW did fine without it, and almost every other non korean game that don't use it does alright. Not like games that use game guard actually have less bots anyway.

Little surprise for you I guess...WoW has it's own version of Gameguard. It's called Warden.

Is there any info about if aion will be using gameguard?

Frankly I hope not. First of all Gameguard is an utter failure in terms of keeping botters away. The only thing it does is prevent people form using gaming pads like the Nos 52, Ideazon Fang and gaming keyboards like the G15/G11 keyboard from Logitech.

It doesn't prevent you from using the G15, it prevents you from using macros on the G15 which makes sense if you want to stop people afk playing.

As to L2, never played but this isn't L2 and I'd rather have it than not. I don't plan to cheat and if it helps, even a little, it's a good thing.

I just don't see it.
The majority of subs are going to stay in Asia, this game won't hold 250k subs in the US.

That absolutely did not contribute at all to the discussion

Although, I have to say I agree - Aion is a bit too 'grindy' for Western gamers, so will hit max 2 mil amongst EU/USA combined

I'm curious why you think it's grindy. I've played in the beta and the leveling pace is on par with WoW/Lotro/EQ2 and was ALL quest based. Unless you consider WoW grindy in which case I really have to disagree with you.

Why don’t we stop talking crap and start betting?  I have $10,000 that say AoC hits one million subscribers in 3 months.

So when ya gonna pay up on that bet?

Its called the Old Republic not KOTOR.... I wish people would quit calling it that...

Indeed, you'd think a MMO site would notice that bit.

This was a waste of bits on the VN boards when you posted it there.

The forums here for WAR look almost exactly like the ones for AOC did right after launch, and EA has yet to prove that they can truly support an MMO over time.

If you believe that you didn't read the AOC forums.
