General: MMOWTF: Happy Games Make Me Want to Kill
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/19/07 1:34:46 PM
Should not this column be converted to Dan Fortier's blog? Would be more apropriate to the content. It is not even an opinion any more (and far away from something that can be call an article). In case Dan will decide to become a writer again not a blogger here you can find some material to support your emotions http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/ |

Age of Conan: Beta Progress and Server Set-up
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/12/07 2:12:32 PM
When they show up not only do they have bad latency. But it effects everyone in the world. And how exactly it "effects everyone"? Btw, you can always make it in a way SOE did in EQ2 - you can choose your continent but you have to use another launcher in order to do it. And by definition you see the launcher of your country. So, no accidental choices. Many, many times gamers voted for free choice, many times it was said that our convenience - is OUR business. Do not make decisions for us! Yet they still use that old lame excuse about "latency and your convenience". Why not to say openly - we can not do it because of financial agreements or technical difficulties. Did not expect it from Funcom. |

Vanguard: A log of my experiance.

"You read all seven paragraphs and somehow missed the line in the first paragraph that explains im on 10MB broadband. What are the odds you missed that? Ill go ahead and assume you just didn't read it and decided to go on the defensive for no reason at all."
Get used to it. This is Vanguard community. |

Thank you! Good to see MMORPG.COM cares about it's reputation. Very impressive. |

Viva AO! AoC will be a great game but as many others I'd like to see some minor upgrades in AO. I can live with graphics (still think this is very stylish) but sound should be revised. |

General: Casual Play: What Makes WoW Dumb?
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/08/06 7:02:03 AM
I got it! If you define “casual” as “single’s player” (the one who likes to play singles, not MMO) – the article will be true to the last word! And yes, WoW attracted exactly this type of people. This is just misusing common terminus “casual” that existed only in MMORPG and has a special meaning that has nothing to do with craft-hating or customisation insignificance. |

General: Debate: Secondary Market (McQuaid/Kipe)
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/06/06 7:59:10 PM
Same old Brad - a lot of emotions and words twisting but not a single solid argument or any sign of logic. The truth is - as a developer he wants this money from secondary market but as it was mentioned already he can not openly say it. And then we have to read all this rubbish about "offended player’s majority".
I can not say if secondary market is good or bad. It was always there. Hidden, yes, but always there. Does it affect game-play? Hard to say. If the game is interesting, if the process of obtaining those items is fun - then you can only pity people who buy there items instead getting them by normal way. Brad's defense is for games where you have to WORK for your in-game stuff. And sorry but in these games I do not see difference between someone, who has a lot of free time and can farm for hours, and the one who has money instead and buy the thing he wants. What is the problem? Money and even ruined economy do not remove the game-way to get items - questing, hunting, crafting. If the processes of hunting and crafting are interesting - then you lose nothing because of the secondary market.
Make it interesting, make it fun, combine with some restrictions like binding stuff - and you can regulate this market without lawyers. |

Great article! Very good points. For those offended by statment - raider means hardcore - take it a little bit broader: raiding is ONE of the hardcore activities. If raiding is the only way to apgrade your caracter, and you agree with author, that hardcore player is one with a lot of time and with only goal - to perfect his caracter, then real raiding (not accasional PUG) will be exclusively hardcore activity. 5-8 houres per day, several days a week - this is not something casual player can afford. |

Anarchy Online: Interview with Craig Morrison

Long and happy life to AO! The experience Funcom got till now surely will be used in Conan, but as any other AO-lovers I also wish they continue to work on that great game.

World of Warcraft: Editorial: Two Casual Years Later
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/19/06 12:31:43 PM
Good points! All of them! And it is a pity that WoW-fanboys are in the editorial board. Every time one of them publish such an article they get negative response from community. And nevertheless they continue to publish them... |

I understand that this is just an opinion, nothing more but also surprised to hear it. Since AO for a long time could not accept the look and movement of character models in other games, because they looked and moved so unnatural (remember SWG, for example?) And here I was so happy to see again real movement and normal graphic, not grotesque in any way. You may dislike it but keep in mind that many people see it completely different. |
