General: Fallout MMO Screenshots Surface

EDIT: The screenshots look like a terrible mix of an f2p MMO, WoW, and an inkling of Fallout. Fallout 3 was by far superior to many other RPG's. F1 and 2 were great games, don't get me wrong, but Fallout 3 was, to me, the best way to go for a post-apoc rpg. And the numbers, awards, sales, and constant opoularity and high ranking still now, says so. |

General: Fallout MMO Screenshots Surface
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/09 1:02:57 AM
Interplay no longer controls the Fallout license, so there is no hoping they can keep control of something they no longer have posession of. they were allowed, by Bethesda, to use the license to create an MMO, after Bethesda bought the license. Interplay has apparently failed to live up to the stipulations in the contract, and Bethesda has brought them to court for failing to meet the obligations set forth in said contract. Interplay is from a bygone era. They did great games. They were the forefathers of the PC RPG, along with Black Isle and Bioware. But times are changing, technology is changing. Games MUST change with those, or they fall into the void of games that could have been. I LOVED Fallout 1 and 2. But my favorite is Fallout 3. I felt MORE immersed in the wastes with the first person perspective, the action was intense, and it took a little more thought and skill to fight. A turn based, top-down, 3rd person RPG no longer works in this day and age. It's technology of an era past. Those who hate Bethesda, do because they feel cheated. Feel cheated of a style classic to the genre, but none complains when other games do that. Like Warcraft. It was an RTS. It changed into a hybrid RTS/RPG. Then it became a full blown MMO. And it became the most successful MMO in the industry. Fallout has done the same thing, in a way. It was a great game. It got better, and now, with the new era, changed to fit it, and has become one of the best RPG's. And to all those who say Fallout 3 is just an Oblivion reskinned, I challenge you to play each game as the other. Try playing Oblivion like Fallout 3. Try playing Fallout 3 like Oblivion. Do each one for 5 hours or more before switching, then come back and tell me they are the same. The keys are different, game style is different, the engine has been reworked. I tried it. I died. A lot. Trying to play each game as the other. Fallout 3 is not a reskinned game. It's a new game using a familiar engine with upgraded capabilities. MANY games use this. Look at ALL the games that use the Unreal Engine. If you wanna complain about sameness, go with that. Wait, but each game is fundementaly different from the other, even though the core may be the same. Shocker. Interplay needs to go the way of the ghost. They are old news. They did their great works. Now it's time for the new cats to do theirs.
EDIT: Let's also not forget the major fumbles and inconsistancies that were in Fallout 2. Oh, who was part of that? Interplay. Oh, Brotherhood of Steel? Interplay. Tactics? Laughable. Interplay. Those last two were so far off base from the original they could have been beasts all their own, with a different name, and no one would be none the wiser. |

I am not the type who wants to put 40+ hours into a game before I get to the meat and potatoes of a game. I am not going to wait till I am lvl20 or 30 before I get some real grouping action. I am asking why is it so difficult to give all the level ranges, early and late, grouping content? There are claims of grouping content later on in the game. Why must I wait till later on in the game to get some social interaction with my fellow players? I don't want or need a single-player tutorial. I want to be able to group up with people right out of the gate and for this group be efficient. Playing Everquest I could create a character in Greater Faydark and start grouping at lvl3 at Orc Hill. In Ultima Online I could run up to the graveyard outside of Britannia and start adventuring with people right there. Dark Ages of Camelot allowed me to jump into RvR with my fellow warriors at lvl5 and even capture keeps. Is it really that difficult to give the game a little social interaction? Some form of teamwork?
You complain of lack of social interaction...yet really, social interaction must first come from the player. How is it being soloable stopping you from grouping? I mean, go up to someone, say hey, can ya help me here? i had the most fun playing with a good friend of mine. We teamed and we split tasks. I drew the aggro, she mopped em up, I moved on as she looted. It made it fun. You want FORCED social interactivity. That hurts the social aspect of a game, imo. The more you force people to work together, the more you force people to dislike it. Strange, how that works. You want to be social, go talk to someone! Really, what is stopping you beside your own half baked, barely standing excuses? TALK TO SOMEONE! Be social, ya don't need a game developer to TELL you to do it. If so, go play a themepark. It will tell you how to play the game. |

I read it all, yes. I entered, sure. But i'm also a bit taken aback that the contest isn't giving exactly what it's name implies, and that is a subscirption. You are getting the actual game, but that's it. To subscribe and get that free month, you still need a CC number on file. It really should be called something other than Subscription Giveaway. Getting the game would be useless for those who either A) Do not have a CC or B) Do not have the money to play. Sure, it's a free game. If I won, i'd add it to my rather large collection of MMO Box Shelf, but beside that, it would just gather dust. To me, a greater incentive, AND a more true to name contest would give both the game and say 2-3 months free subscription. THAT, my friends, is a Subscription Giveaway. I'm not boohing free stuff. Far from it. I'm quite happy that they are giving away a few boxes free. And if I win, i'll be happy I got a free game, no doubt there. But the name implies, rather plainly, I may add, that you would be winning a subscription, not just the initial game (Which includes the obligatory free month: i.e. Doesn't count as a subscription). So...my suggestion is....with contests, be a bit more true to the name...or name the contest according to the actual giveaway. Cheers! |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived Cinematic Trailer
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/02/09 7:26:20 PM
It has relevance as it has story, characters, and lore that will most likely deal with TOR as a whole. cinematic trailers have as much weight as do gameplay trailers. If all games only did gameplay trailers, it wouldn't do well to get the excitement over the story, just the action. And Bioware is known for their well written, well executed stories. I'd say do not judge this trailer, as that is EXACTLY what it is, just of a different breed, on the fact it shows no gameplay. It shows story, it shows interaction, and it shows off some of the badass characters as well as over all look of TOR. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Ord Mantell Screens and Concept Art
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/29/09 6:37:42 AM
We have to remember...the GRAPHICS are damn good. They are fine. It's the ART STYLE you dislike. the stylized, cartoonish art style. The graphics in it are awesome, and well made. Graphics have nothing to do with the cartoonish style, the art does. But again, i'm a Star Wars fan. I played Lego Star Wars, both of em, beat em, unlocked everything. Now THAT is kiddy, cartoony, but also, fun, funny, and entertaining as hell. If you played either of them and liked/loved em, then go to say the art style for TOR is bad or you dislike it...shame on you. |

Fallen Earth: Balancing Weapons Part Two
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/25/09 5:38:21 PM
Ah, either way, seemed sort of trolling and attempting to spark a heated response from him, when all the guy did was show his excitement for a game. A unique, and most awesome looking game, mind you. Just sort of seemed...rude to pull Darkfall, pvP, and PvE out of his ass and blast Daarco for making a simple comment of excitement. I really hope this game does bring in the roleplayers. We need a good MMO. One that caters to us, gives us the tools and gameplay and world necessary to make our own stories, to immerse ourselves in the world. I'm tired of the endless grind, the farming of gold, the half-assed story lines, and hold-your-hand roller coaster ride. FE is proving to look and sound awesome. FE and ER both, post-apocalyptic roleplaying MMO's. Both unique, and both looking to take a lot of my time. |

Having a resemblence of pve handicaps any game trying to be hardcore pvp according to the pvp lemmings. FE, akaik, does not have full body loot which is fine with me. So we have some pve and no full loot....hopefully that will be enough to protect the game against the uber, huge epeen hardcore pvp elite. I like pvp but the boastful, carebare spewing attitude is tiresome, old and just annoying overall.
Where in the world did you get the idea of a Darkfall attitude from someone who called it his new SWG, and a roleplayers dream? I'm kind of confused as to how Darkfall ties into it at all, being 1: He never mentioned Darkfall. 2: he never mentioned PvP or PvE. and 3: He was comparing it to a better, more exciting sandbox game than Darkfall, that was SWG Pre-CU, which gave players massive amounts of roleplaying elements. You know, it IS called an MMO*RPG* for a reason. Because it is, in every sense of the genre, a ROLEPLAYING GAME, and I would expect no less than to see players doing more than just grinding, but living the game, immersing themselves into the world, and creating stories to get themselves and other players involved in. If you can't handle roleplayers playing in a roleplaying game, perhaps you are in the wrong genre? And....again...where the hell did you get Darkfall out of his simple exuberant statement of it being his SWG, and a roleplayer's dream? |

Permanently banned from the official forums
General Discussion « Mortal Online 3/10/09 11:08:08 PM
It shows your lack of faith, lack of respect, and lack of maturity with the way you worded your question. A failure is a game that ultimately never made it, or died soon after. Darkfall has yet to be a failure. If they close the game down, then, and only then, is it a failure. Your question reeks of disdain, rudeness, and overall contempt for the creativity, imagination, and desires of those who have it harder within the gaming industry. But it's those people who we count on to bring innovation, cretaivity, and originality to our favorite hobby. Without them we would have things like EA and Activision, pumping out expansions that look exactly like the predecessor, just prettier, or with NUMEROUS small expansions that add nothing more than a few new trinkets to the original game. These small, innovative, underdog companies are the last hope we gamers have for anything remotely original or innovative. Without them, gaming would be simplistic, boring, and pointless, and ya may as well buy a pet rock, at least then, you can get a response from it. So, to answer you, their banning of you is fully reasonable, because your attitude was not conducive to a creative and productive atmosphere. Disadants and criticisms are fine, but blatant mockery and disdain for the attempt at something cool and amazing with so little, is down right disgusting. Shame on you. |

Something I've noticed about some who defend this and other MMOs
Paragon City Hall (General) « City of Heroes 2/21/09 6:08:58 PM
I got what he was saying exactly the firts time he mentioned it. The guy who was attacking him is at fault for not understanding what he was trying to get across, so, perhaps you could take some of your snooty, thinly masked attack and go elsewhere. |

And we thought vanguard had the worst launch in MMO history...

This isn't the official launch, so doesn't count much. |

Not being a dick, just relatively blunt. |

Being that it's a video and in no way actually states EVERYONE can, and the fact they are normally used to show OFF what you can do, it's not fact that everyone CAN do all that. Understand that? |

Who's forcing you to lift a car as a Batman inspired hero? |
|

And what exactly does that have to do with this guys rather good, point on review of a game he tried thouroughly? |

Yeah, go ahead an compare me to that cult. Sure People can express themselves as much as they want, how that equates to me being a scientoligist, boggles my mind. Being they are a super secretive group. And only Tom Cruise has been vocal, and we all know he's just a pawn. Yeah, we will see. And if i'm not sitting her twiddling my thumbs, what are you gonna do?
Edit: No, it doens't make me a fanboy. I'm just tired of this pointless crap all you trolls spout. If it were any other game i'd be just as vocal. Attempting to discredit, destroy, and undermine a game for some redundant, arbitrary reason is both moronic, selfish, and childish. I'm done here. Like I said, i'll be enjoying Darkfall on the 22nd. Enjoy. |
|
|
Whatever, you all are morons who just desire this game to die so your precious little games like WoW and LotrO and other simplistic, hold-your-hand-so-you-don't-scrape-your-knee games can survive. It's too bad a mature, complicated, no holds barred, survival of the fittest game wants to come in, and make our genre of gaming what it used to be. I'll enjoy my time in the free trial on the 22nd, whilst you haters and deniers, and doubters all sit and cry as the beast rears it's head and torches your kiddy game. Ta ta. |
|
|
They will take ALL they can. They never said it was an apply/select basis. Taking ALL they can obviously means as many as they can before it closes/crashes. Which means first come, first serve. It's rather obvious. |
|
|
Common sense? 90% of trolls have no common sense, as their antics and actions have only increased the popularity and interest in the very game they seek to destroy. Common sense would tell them to shut the hell up. Gullible imbeciles? The only person gullible here is those who read way too much into every word a developer or poster says. No one has bought any pre-order, as there has been none for sale yet. And as far as we know, there will be no charge for the trial since they said free. And the fact that it's coming the 22nd. |
|
|
It is still open, if limited. Closed would mean invite only. They did not state it would be invite only. They also said it would be OPEN, thus, an NDA would go against that. People need to just learn to wait and watch instead of make up conjecture and opinion based on words and info given, no matter how large or little. They said open trial to as many as they can. That doesn't say to me "Invite Only". It says "First come, first serve". That's what I expect. I expect to see something the 22nd. They havn;t said anything to the contrary, past history aside. Just deal with the fact that *gasp* the game you revile so much is near it's coming.
Edit: I said anyone, not everyone. Anyone meaning any player who wishes to try it, not just beta applicants, friends/family, etc. Everyone would mean all could try it without limit. BIG difference. |
