"Ridiculously cool news: The Elder Scrolls MMO has been confirmed.

Reportedly, Bethesda has already sunk 300 million into the project... (really?); here's what Bethesda's Pet Hines said about the astronomical amount of money:

I don't think that this funding changes our focus in terms of what we are about and are trying to accomplish. The additional resources will allow us to expand our publishing efforts-both our own titles and those of other studios-and to pursue development of more titles, working with internal and external development teams.

We don't have a title for the game yet, or any info on what it will be like. We're going out on a limb and predicting it will be completely awesome."

I have to agree with the OP for the most part. Logging into an MMO knowing EXACTLY what is going to happen at all times has gotten pretty lame. I do however have high hopes for Aion. Good luck to you man and let me know if you find a good game.

I wouldn't worry about the "hardcore" crowd at this point.  Right now, almost the ENTIRE freakin genre is aiming for the unltra-casual crowd, and, well you can see the results...

Yep, i can (IMO) better games.

*Sigh*

it's like listening to these hardcore Libarals & Conservitives battle it out neither realizing the majority of us think both are silly.

The truth is many of us want something in between. Simply put the majority of us have families and resposibilities so the 4-6 hour grinds of EQI are no longer an option. However make no mistake many aren't satisfied with the current crop of spoonfeed garbage either.

Hopefully a title comes along that provides the challenge of old school titles ( UO, EQI, AC, DAOC) only without the huge time commitments.

Amen

Happy gaming.

Depending on what market source you use for information (they are all fairly close in number) the average age of gamers (all games inc MMOs) is 30ish.  They even just had a little segment about it on G4 TV where they actually put the number at 32 if I remember correctly.

Here are some numbers

1.  US computer and video game software sales grew six percent in 2006 to $7.4 billion – almost tripling industry software sales since 1996.

2.  Sixty-seven percent of American heads of households play computer and video games.

3.  The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

4.   The average age of the most frequent game buyer is 38 years old. In 2007, 92 percent of computer game buyers and 80 percent of console game buyers were over the age of 18.

5.  Eighty-five percent of all games sold in 2006 were rated "E" for Everyone, "T" for Teen, or "E10+" for Everyone 10+.  For more information on ratings, please see www.esrb.org.

6.  Eighty-six percent of game players under the age of 18 report that they get their parents’ permission when renting or buying games, and 91 percent say their parents are present when they buy games.

7.   Thirty-six percent of American parents say they play computer and video games. Further, 80 percent of gamer parents say they play video games with their kids. Sixty-six percent feel that playing games has brought their families closer together.

8.  Thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31%) than boys age 17 or younger (20%).

9.  In 2007, 24 percent of Americans over the age of 50 played video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.

10.  Forty-nine percent of game players say they play games online one or more hours per week. In addition, 34 percent of heads of households play games on a wireless device, such as a cell phone or PDA, up from 20 percent in 2002.

Despite the bugs and may issues...it will be very very hard for any game to compete with the amazing player driven game that was pre cu. It was amazing....thanks for your post.

This is closure. They moved the game to a new direction and so should anyone who complains about the changes.

He was apologozing for the mistake of not listening to the communtiy...meaning they implemented  changes the communtiy didnt want and paid for it in subsciptions..hence he is saying they made a mistake with the changes. He also said they will never drastically change a game again like they did to SWG because it was a mistake...

I think we need a new Star Wars MMORPG to be made before any SWG vet (like myself) will ever stop complaining.

I really doubt anyone wants to do a Star Wars MMO now though because of what happened with SWG.

Though, with Stargate and Star Trek MMOs in the works, you never know...

I really cant see why someone doesnt want to make another Star Wars MMO. The title has total selling power...even if you cookie cut it or make is really simple (LOTR no offense, but it had good sales with the help of the title) it would surely make a nice chunk of change.  In the Post WoW world, most mmos will prob nit differ from one another very much anymore so this is where the Star Wars name will carry it.

There are several videos you can watch on this web site (MMORPG.com) showing different aspects of Aion. I have high hopes for it and think it will be a terrific game.

I think they will both be solid games, but War will be more popular. I will prob be playing Aion over War if it turns out to be a descent game though.

Too funny..I am in the same boat. I am about to cancel my SWG account after giving it another try. I really didn't give it a fair shake at all though, but I can't get motivated to re learn everything. I am having a hard time getting motivated to play any MMOs right now. After playing so many different MMOs I think I need a breather. We need these new games to come out asap. Until then, I will stick to COH, which is the only game I can count on when I just want to have fun without the pain.

I played L2 for a bit and thought it was a very very fun game. The only problem I had was the long road to level and it being this late in the game. There was also a thin population at the lower levels. While a fantastic game, it just seems a bit late to start that daunting haul to level now esp when there are so many games coming out soon. My advice would be to play a more casual game (COH, Guild Wars etc) for a few months until one of the new games come out. To be honest though I wish I would of found L2 a lot sooner because it is really sweet.

City of Heroes/Villains is the perfect game while you are in between more in depth MMOs. It provides really fun combat and character development that is perfect for someone who isn't going to put in alot of time. I have had a COX account for a very long time and is always the go to game. It also provides you the ability do dabble in different games as you play it.

I think it is great if someone enjoys the game, but I think these scores are way to high.
