I was actually caught by suprise when I logged into LOTRO today. I have no idea about what content/end game/crafting etc the game has to offer, but the look and feel is very nice. I really never even thought of the game as an option...just saw the stress test and gave it a shot. If the game offers a reasonable amount of content/end game, I am in.

I have been playing MMOs for a very long time..I have always been in very solid raiding guilds. I have played several MMOs and I have to say EQ2 has given me more enjoyment than any other so far. The people who are bashing it in this thread obviously have a hidden agenda other than just not liking the game. The arguments made really don't make any sense and are fairly disingenuous. The game is well worth it and very enjoyable.

I really dont understand how YOU are having this AMAZING ammount of problems. The only bug I have run into was getting stuck jumping off the side of a mountain. No offense but it seems a little sketchy to me that god decided to piss on you VG and only yours.

You sir, should play the lottery. Your on a lucky streak!

It's the same when any technilogically advanced game comes out. Some computers hate it, some don't. My computer has been very generous in letting me play Vangaurd. But then, I've been using the tweaks for a few months.

I am not here to knock Vanguard. I am sure it will turn out to be a really fun game, but this statement bugs me a bit. It makes sense, but not with Vanguard. My computer runs the game great..I have a very good computer. Technologically advanced...ummm no. The World graphics are nice looking, but they are nothing that are truely advanced by any means. The character models and combat animations are very far from impressive...wether you like them or not, I just scratch my head at anyone who claims they are an advancment in the video game world. Cheer for Vanguard all you want..if you enjoy it, more power to you. In time I bet it willbe well worth the time investment, but the constant "the game is just so advanced..thats why it runs like crap on your computer" is completley disingenuous. The game is what it is...I see alot of critics who are bashing it for reasons that dont make sense and I see alot of fans throwing out totaly ridiclous claims about how most of the world is just behind the times in terms of vanguard. When the rest of us are sitting here wondering when reality will set in.

I think the graphics look good etc...but I agree with the less than stellar character models. They really bother me...I may just be too picky.

So technically there are two categories, one for released games and one for un-released games ;).

Supposedly total sales are around 800,000 and growing.

I was surprised because Vanguard seems to not be making much noise on the forums - But I think that's because most of the gamers are just so involved in it right now.

Whaaa? I think the game looks pretty good, but you are going a bit over the top with that.

From what I have seen in beta, it seems a large emphasis has been placed on crafting. I have a few friends who are big fans of playing crafters and they are very excited with what VG has to offer.

... your gaming tastes will mature and you'll understand why people have come to hate it ...

It boggles me to think that a game has such a severe impact on somebody that he entertains such strong emotions as hate. Maybe it's the only gaming gender that has such an impact on players (perhaps due to the time commitment).

WoW has a strong impact on the gaming industry, perhaps the strongest any MMO could claim. Whether it is a "good" game, is for the most part irrelevant, since it's too subjective to whatever everyone is looking in a game. To say though that the gender will suffer because of WoW is naive, in my opinion. Lets face it, the next game people will want to play will need to have everything good their current has + more, sometimes alot more than what their current game offers. Look at the people in this forums. They dislike WoW because it does not have the x feature their old game had. Whatever comes after WoW will need to build upon it's legacy and expand. I doubt even Blizzard could make another WoW clone and sell the same way they did with WoW (why would somebody buy a Starcraft MMO for example if it plays the same as WoW?).

To dismiss the features WoW offered would not be a wise course for future developers. They need to build upon them, expand, include new ideas and polish them. Build upon the strengths of the gender, remove the weaknesses, add inovations, that's how things will progress. Starting from scratch is ... risky. People don't seem to want revolutionary gameplay, so many games with radical ideas have flopped. People seem to want evolution. Evolution may lead to different paths of course, but it is unwise to ignore the past knowledge.

Look at it this way. Would you respect a film director that produces films that please the critics or the audience?

If you read my post in this thread, you will see your response is basically a rebuke to mine. I will have to hand it to you you raise a very valid point and I hope you are correct. Bad thing is, the game development process takes forever and I will prob be more into wheelchair races than video games when we finally get the game the MMO GENRE deserves.

WoW is an extremely well polished and often fun game. That being said gameplay and lore wise its also fairly shallow and it does not give the player any influance over the gameworld at all. This leads to many long term players and MMO veterans feeling left wanting. Sure its fun but even the fun gameplay will eventualy get boring.

While most existing MMOs are not as polished and many are not as instantly fun alot of them do offer what WoW does not which is depth. Be it crafting, world shaping, PvP, story, raiding or even thing such character creation. For some people this results in a more enjoyable long term experience for many and a more satisfying one.

In short I guess what Im trying to say is WoW is a great game but its like Diablo, alot of people play through it a couple of times but its not the sort of game you can expect many people to play and play and not get tired of it.

You said it better than I did

First, I will say I played WoW for quite some time and had a blast. The game is well done and makes it well worth the price to play for a bit. Let  me expalin where I think the hate comes from... There are so many people who are brand new to MMOs and WoW is there very first one. Most people's first experience in the MMO world is the best it gets. I know I have played better games since my first MMO, but I will never be able to enjoy one as much. I didnt really care how buggy or how limited the game was...it was just too much fun. Most people here have been there done that in several MMOs and have a very high tolerance for game enjoyment. The grind/raid/pvp bit has been done over and over (WoW did a very good job in that aspect). They want a game that actually adds content in terms of a variety of things to do when you log in. They want a game that presents more of a challenge and actually takes advantage of a huge diverse community of gamers that have come together. Most people here don't hate the people who play WoW...they are scared that the MMO world has taken a step back in innovation. WoW has not brought anything new to the genre....they did however, make a quality product wich has made a huge amount of money.

If WoW is the furture of MMOS, alot of us are screwed. If you do not understand this statement, wait until you burn out on WoW because you are sick of doing the same old same old. Its about the Genre, not about the game. Remember this...No matter how hot a woman is...there is always someone sick of her sh@@

I am not a RP, but I always play on RP servers because I enjoy the atmoshpere they bring to the game. If you are new to it, just hang out with people who RP and let them know you want to just wait to develope your character until you learn how it is done. The majority of them are very very cool people and will have no problem if you are just along for the ride for awhile until you are comfortable. Most dont Rp 24/7 anyway.

SOE made many mistakes with SWG. I, like most quit the game because of the poor game changes etc...Although I have a special hatred for them, I can't forget they are responsible for my favorite MMORPG I have ever played.

What's happening is you're forcing AntiAliasing (or atleast, that's what was happening when I, and others, had this problem). When you force AA from your graphics card, because the way the npc name text looks, it disappears.

To fix this, go to your graphics card control panel and set anti-aliasing to "application controlled", and the names will show up once again.

Alternatively you could try finding an AA setting that doesn't disappear the names, but I'd recommend just with going with the above solution.

This is what worked for me.
