XBox 360... same servers... how will it change the game in 1/09?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/22/08 2:54:41 PM
The 360-players would be utterly slaughtered. You just can't compete with a console controller against a mouse and keyboard in an MMO. Edit: And what about chat? |

OMG! HOLD THE PRESS! SOMEONE CALL THE DAILY BUGLE! You'd better start clearing room for that Pulitzer. This fine piece of investigative journalism is nothing less than mind boggling. Congratulations on your find. You really proved that Funcom is immature once and for all. |

I havent tried end-game with my conq, but based upon my limited experience I would say conquerors are lousy tanks. I see them as secondary dps'er and buffer. They're almost like the captains in LoTRO. The guardian will be used as a tank for any boss fighting or hard instances. Well that's my "guess" anyway. |

Originally posted by sactoking This is a funny argument. Considering they've probably broken all previous pre-order mmo-records, and most of the gameshops worldwide is close to selling out, if they haven't already, I'm not sure I understand where you're going. You say they get what they deserve and still their sales are beyond their own expectations? If you were a fanboi I would understand, but the rest of your post is negative. Your reasoning confuses me. You sure they get what they deserve - from your personal standpoint? |

I don't know any class but conquerors, but on paper I would advice you to go for barbarian and bear shaman. The barb has sick dps and the bear shaman packs a mean whollop plus has the ability to heal. If you two are supposed to play the game together most of the time that's what I would've gone for. |

Not a single line where you "guessed" something without backing up your guesswork with facts - or at least circumstantial evidence. Even if you had a ph.d in 'computer games guessworking' I would ask for a rationale behind your guesses. If you were a world famous game critic you might've gotten away with it in some communities. I just don't see the public utility of unjustified or factless opinions. I said I was of the complete opposite conviction to make a point. As for you asking for my rationale... well I asked first. |

Currently I'm only keeping a sub to EVE which I won't cancel. I'm having a blast in the Early Access and I've already pre-ordered so I'm a definite AoC buyer. EVE is an insurance though. I always find myself going back to EVE. Can't see myself playing EVE in a long time now though. |

I also find the 48vs48 a bit low. However, keep in mind that 48vs48, guildvsguild, attackervsdefender in a siege environment will be a new experience and never seen before in a game. I'm talking rhinos mounts (controlled by players) hammering on the gates, trebuchets destroying walls and defenders blocking the access with their bodies ( yes there is collision detection). I'm pretty sure Funcom would have had more players on each side if it was more fun. They've probably realized 48vs48 is the best they can come up with at the moment, but I'm sure if they get more time they might be able to change it with a future patch. Perhaps. Maybe. 48vs48 isn't massive, but it's the best we've seen so far in this setting. One other thing; every developer in the history of mankind has thrown out more ideas than they could put in the finished product. It's fact in AoC and it will be fact in - for instance - WAR. If the only reason you wanted to play AoC was because of "massive sieges" then I'm sorry and I recommend you to give it a miss. At least a year or so maybe it changes then. |

All the betas only held a few variations. Even the closed beta didn't have access to more. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. There's supposed to be over 1500 armor sets at launch though. You're bound to find a great variation. This game has been in development for over 5 years. They've had plenty of time making armors and weapons. |

Originally posted by Arngorf Funcom envision Aquilonia as roman inspired, although I personally believe Robert E. Howard saw it as medieval France inspired. It's not really that important. The important lore is that Aquilonia is supposed to be the civilized superpower with modern cities and culture. The cimmerian are brutal barbarians, almost like Vikings, while the Stygians are more inspired by arcane egypt. They got all the evil necromantic wizards etc. |

Post Level 20 Gameworld Unfinished/Unpolished

Yes Ethion is correct. You have to load the Noble district for it to "work". Reason for this is that it's a questing area. You can see Aquilonian troops marching up and down patrolling the streets. There's also high level mobs aggroing from insane distances. I tried it in Close Beta but I wasn't high enough so I had to leave as well. I remember something about guards saying they had it locked down because of disturbances, but you can zone-in if you like. Until the day we all got 10GB RAM as a minimum on our PCs, we have to load zones if we doesn't want it to look like say WoW or WAR. It's that simple. |
|
|
There's a lot of talk about immersion here and that zoning kills it. You know what kills immersion for me? Graphics like they got in WoW and WAR. It's cartoony and it's the same for loooong stretches. The colours are all the same. All the trees has the same colour and shape. Same with all the flora. AoC has terrain you really can immerse yourself in. Never have you seen such beautiful scenery in an MMO before. Don't even try to talk about immersion when you consider the alternative MMO's. For us fans of the lore the sites are just as I imagined them to be. Btw in Tortage; how long does it take to open a door? 5 seconds? Sounds pretty realistic to me O.o I'm currently questing in Connals Valley (I think it's called). If I was to run from one area to the next it would take me at least 15 minutes. It's a huge area. You guys are fishing, but the sad thing is that some of the crap you're putting out sticks. Some people actually listens even though it's all fabricated wishful thinking - from your point of view of course. |

Recieved my pre-order key from Play.com ...... it dont work.
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/19/08 2:30:23 PM
If you pre-ordered within stated time limits given by Funcom it sounds like it's their responsibility. Unless the retailer has given wrong information that is, but I can't see that happening as all pre-orders are given a mount + something else. They promised if you pre-order you get xxxx. You'll get it don't worry. I'd send an explanatory mail to Funcom asking for advice. |

Yeah there's a lot of heartbroken people on this forum today Mr Joe Average doesn't give a crap about what a few sore - and scared - loosers says about AoC. It's like a snowball catching momentum. Who knows when it stops. AoC got everything WoW has + a shitload of other features. Hell they even got RvRvR now, a new combat system, player made cities, sieging, mounted combat... oh my head is spinning. |

Try to only use the default light or medium settings without AA or anything else (no bloom). I remember in the closed beta that it worked wonders sometimes. I experienced a lot chugging the other day and I found out my HD running all the time caused it. I got a 4GB mem stick I'm running readyboost on and I turned off windows search (under services.msc) and I put it to no pagefile! Yeah you read me correct. I got 3,5GB ram + 4GB readyboost and no pagefile. The HD doesn't run anymore and the game is actualy much quicker. Every time my HD started running the game would lag. Oh yeah I've done two tweaks to the medium setting. Only shadows from chars and squeezed the texture from ram all the way to the right. My GFX card needs to borrow some system ram. Test that and If it works gradually tweak it so it fits your system. If it starts to lag again just default to light/medium again.
Edit to say: I saw it's a 7900 card. How new is it? Does it have to emulate some of the newer features like 3.0 shaders, parallax mapping and so forth? Emulating eats up a lot of cpu-cycles. Try to disable stuff like shadows and other features. Try 2.0 shaders. If you manage to isolate one thing you can work around it. |

How do you like the game so far? |
