Yea, I think it's PR bullshit as well. More likely they haven't found a local distributor for the game yet and if they do he's going to request exclusive game publishing rights. Which won't happen if they undermine him by allowing people to join other region servers.

If you didn't like warhammer online PvE, you may not like GW2 either, since its basically an evolution of the war dynamic events. Besides that, GW2 doesn't seem to be coming out this summer, we'll be lucky if it's out by September.

Edit: Just checked Tera EU FAQ and here's what it says: Yes, there is an IP block for certain countries for TERA in Europe. The following countries won't be able to access our Frogster servers for TERA in Europe: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Byelorussia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine. And just checked Tera US FAQ, sorry to say, same bad results: En Masse will block IPs based on region. Asia, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East are included on the block list. While we appreciate that there are players in these regions who would enjoy playing on En Masse servers, it's unfortunate that the vast majority of Internet traffic we see from these regions are from cyber-criminals relating to account theft, gold-farming and other hacking behavior.
People still use VPN to bypass the IP block, but it's an unnecessary hassle imo. |

Well, Darkfall is probably the first true action mmorpg (well, or DDO if we ignore the presence of tab targetting), followed by other UO derivatives. Still, I think Tera is the first that has some actual class balance, a really good game engine and decent developers to back the game up. As for its market share in the East, you have to keep in mind that:

How many of you are canceling your pre-orders?

I am not going to pre-order any game without a launch date. Thus I picked the relevant option.

Only Tera EU is still on maintenance, at least the game servers are. They'll open in about 6 hours from now. US servers are working properly. I did try to use the account page to purchase from EN Masse and indeed I get an error when I select the add in cart option. No idea about that.

Originally posted by teakbois Any actual figure about how much it costed to produce? That's a really old estimate on a rather hostile to Tera site.
Also the many starting areas of Warhammer ended up hurting the game instead of helping it, by segregating the population in such a way that it was hard to find open world PvP opponents. |

Regarding lower level gangfest, I see in Tera forums griefers already complaining about the anti-griefing system, which means it works in a sense. I don't know what will happen when people reach max level, but I doubt they'll go red just for shits and giggles.
Regarding the above poster, the original GW was pretty decent PvP wise, despite the 8 skill limit. I'm also pretty certain that TSW will be as decent with 8 active skills as well. In the end, it comes down to actual experience of the system. You don't have it, I don't have it, we're just pissing in the wind. |

The reason WoW has millions is because it's ultra casual and easily accessible. GW2 aims for the same casual crowd with every single feature. Tera is a niche game in this regard, aiming for a specific crowd that likes anime, likes non conventional combat and factionless open world PvP. Overall they are both good games (well, I assume GW2 will be a good game, it hasn't launched yet), that offer different stuff for different people. Also those two games are hardly in the same ballpark both regarding development money wise and marketing money wise. It does suck a bit that you didn't participate in the open beta. You'd figure out pretty fast that this game is just not for you. |

Ah, yea, mind fart and I swapped Activision with Vivendi in my mind. My bad. My other points still stand.

You're trying too hard to discredit a tab-less targetting system game. It will certainly have less skills overall than a tab target system. This is only natural. I haven't played either game to max level, thus I can't comment on how complex or simple they will be for me. I have the feeling you haven't either. In this case we're both talking academically, ie out of our asses. |

Originally posted by itssantos Well, timewise Tera is coming out tomorrow (3rd May), while GW2 doesn't even have a release date yet (which probably means at least three months into development still). |

I've counted 17 skills for Tera sorcerer. The guy you saw probably never left the newbie island and couldn't have been over level 6. http://mmorpg-tactics.com/tera-sorcerer-class/sorcerer Not that the amount of skills matters this much, the actual usage matters more. Still 6 spells at level 30 is innacurate. |

Well, they did that because the general concensus was that the game was a bit too easy, especially the starter island. It still is imo, and I'm nothing special mind you.

People seem to enjoy the GvG system a bit too much in my PvP server. I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's definitely a different flavor than the faction system found in almost every other mmorpg out there. You choose your allies and your enemies instead of them been dictated to you.

The thing is, GW2 does not offer open world PvP. It may be a niche market to you, but for those who like it, it is good that there is a game out there offering it. Is it not? Also I have yet to see how the open world PvP will tie with the Vanarch ruler system, which is something else that is new. |
