Both collision detection and rubberbanding are not as intended in this video. The devs have stated that the server was not optimal and the netcode has not been optimized. They've talked about collision detecction before and what was in the videos was not what was discussed. I'm assuming it's going to be fixed, but haven't had dev support on that one yet. Remember, those videos are from the Alpha / Internal Beta stage, so ALOT will change.
And as for this game not "WoW'ing you...I'm glad. If I wanted to be WoW'd, I'd play WoW. Or even LOTRO, or Vanguard. This game is much much diffferent, more mature (as in mature content, but hopefully as in mature playerbase), and much less high-fantasy, and a much different combat system. I'm looking forward to this game pushing the envelope in some aspects that are considered 'standard' to MMOs. |

It's just a shame that I realize variety and the random element of an MMO is what makes it worth playing. For instance, one of the most memorable moments in DDO where when I ran into another group within a dungeon. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, then I found out it was a bug. A few days later it was patched :( |

That said, I feel like the game is a little too bland, and doesn't push the envelope in any direction. For me, it's a small step to the side when I was looking for a big step forward.

PROOF the Size of the World is SMALL (beta tester)
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 2/20/07 12:41:49 PM
Nonetheless, you all can argue over whether or not the OP did what he says he did at lvl 6. Truth is, the gameworld is small. Maybe not the smallest in all MMOs, but small compared to how VAST Tolkien's works make the world out to be. I mean, there were whole chapters (and long chunks of movie for the moviegoers) about the hobbits' travels from one area to another. Enough to make stories about and have memorable scenes. In the game, those journeys have been reduced to a couple skirmishes, in a super-saturated MMO world. If it were my call, I wouldn't change the content, # of enemies, or anything else, I would just scale the world up 150-200% at least. LOTR was epic in part because it was huge. I definitely feel like they missed that little tidbit when creating this game. |

I'm not sure you guys were around before DnL launched...They promised SO much. The game was supposed to be innovative on many fronts, much like Darkfall sounds. DnL was created by a no-name company, much like Darkfall. DnL released amazing videos (riding a dragon high above the earth through clouds) much like Darkfall just released a video of great gameplay footage. The vaporware feeling comes off of not having a big company backing the product. Not having a set release date, and having many many more unknowns about the game than knowns. |

New DF video released, still think it's vaporware?

What to play with a 56k connection?

Also, what general area do you live? There are some service providers that cover large areas that are often overlooked.
I agree with the other poster in that I would not pay a monthly fee for a game with a modem. In fact, I would probably stick to the old CS or old NWN and that's it. Oh or diablo 2. |

I don't think he's trying to make a point. He's just discussing how some guilds (alot of guilds actually) approach guilding for reasons that can clash with the casual gamer. I've seen many good, relaxed guilds turn to crap when they've tried to 'step it up' and become like the hardcore, hardworking, acheivement-based guilds. To each their own I guess...I guess Jon just feels like the hardcore guilds don't realize that not everyone wants to be in the uber respected cool kids club.

Marvel Online has the potential to excel where CoX had all it's shortcomings (signature powers, great game lore, content, stuff to do outside of fight ie secret identities). That, on top of at LEAST a year's wait before it could be released, makes it a great game to act as almost a sequel to CoX, just as CoX is going completely dead.

Let me first state that I do not like WoW; I played it for a few months then quit, like almost 2 years ago. That said, I would not change a thing about WoW. It has 8mil subscribers. It is by far, the best MMO out there. Simply because I don't like it, and you don't like it, doesn't make it a bad game, or with any flaws. If there was a single game in the universe that everyone liked, we would all be playing it constantly. Chess? No, too nerdy for some. Checkers? Too simple for the chess players. TicTacToe? Nah. WoW is a complete, great game....one that I happen to not enjoy. But I would be crazy to try and 'fix' the game to match my tastes. That would most likely piss off the 8 million subscribers that still enjoy the game the way it is. |

I AM NOT UPGRADING MY SYSTEM TO PLAY THIS GAME!
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 1/16/07 1:43:24 PM
You must have not been playing many games if you think your system can run 'any game on at least medium settings' if it's 2 years old. Have you touched SWG, GRAW, Rainbow 6 Vegas? Off the top of my head, those 3 games on mid settings could take an older system to their knees at 1 fps. Vanguard is in the same boat with them, except Vanguard is still in beta. I'm not saying Vanguard isnt a system hog, which it is, or a great game, since I dont want to play it after trying the open beta, but you are living in a fantasy world w/ that kind of a statement. |

General: Casual Play: A Niche Called Roleplaying
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/11/07 12:35:00 PM
This whole article was retarded....first, this website, and the games he's referring to, are called MMORPG, ROLE PLAYING GAMES. People in MMOs SHOULD roleplay, thats what the games are there for. I could go on, but really, I don't need to. And why should games need to encourage roleplaying? It's player-driven. I mean, we all log in to a fantasy world to do things. Some people chose to embrace the alternate reality and roleplay, others chose to log in and kill things. I think the games are fine how they are, and just wish everyone would leave everyone else to play the way they enjoy as long as it doesn't hinder others from doing what they want directly. |
