If you want MMOFPS, play Darkfall. Best game I have ever played by a long shot. |

I think I'm about to crack and buy DFO ... HELP!
General Discussion « Darkfall 11/09/09 2:28:33 PM
First thing you should do in Darkfall is join a good clan. It's not like other mmos where you find your feet for a bit and learn the game before you make a choice on the clan you join. You will need the support of your clan to learn how to play the game and for them to support you if you are having a tough time with PvP. If you are on NA server a clan called NEW is designed for new players to spend their first month in their player city and learn the game together before moving on to another clan.

I have preordered the game but I don't expect to open the box when/if it arrives for another year or so irrespective of whether it actually launches when they claim or not. I do expect them to launch it soon as I get the feeling they need the cash. |

Darkfall doesn't have a trial yet but soon it launches it's second expansion and surely a free trial will be coming with a marketing push before Christmas we hope. No information from the devs about free trials yet though. So I would check back in a month or so and see if there's a trial for Darkfall if you aren't willing to make the leap without one. I have heard great things about Eve and everything I have read about it sounds good but personally I haven't made it past a couple of days played. That's simply me being too lazy to give the game a proper go at the moment though as I'm having too much fun in Darkfall. |

It sounds like you are looking for a different experience in an mmo from what you have tried before. I would recommend you go sandbox and move away from what you have tried before and instead go for something completely different. I have tried Chonicles of Spellborn and I have tried Fallen Earth and while they aren't bad games for what they are, they are nothing really different to what you tried before. The combat systems are a bit more twitch oriented which is good and you'll initially have some fun but after the 100th kill x amount of y you will get that old familiar sinking feeling again. Your real options for a game right now are Darkfall or Eve. Space or Fantasy. Tactical or Twitch. Mortal Online isn't a game right now, beta access is all they are offering and it's not currently in a playable state. |

If you are coming from the modern conventional mmo then Darkfall will be a big shock to the system as the gameplay is completely different from WoW, War, AoC etc.. This will either effect you in a positive manner or you might not last long enough to get to appreciate the gameplay and you will quit within a couple of weeks. If you are bored themepark mmos, levels and quests and if you love meaningful twitch based pvp and the idea of a huge seamless world then you will love the game beyond any other mmo you have played. If you want to raid dungeons(WoW style, dungeons of a different manner do exist in darkfall) and you like everything to be at your fingertips with instant travel and signup queues for pvp battlegrounds or if you hate being killed in world pvp then you will hate Darkfall and probably join the rest of the people who think it stinks. Personally I don't think I will ever play another level based themepark mmo in my life after experiencing a skill based game. The PvP is the best I have ever experienced and dying means a lot. The mobs are fun to kill as you have to aim etc so personally I don't get bored of it even though you are probably repeatedly killing the same spawns nearby where ever you are based so you can skill up and earn gold etc. The patches and fixes for the game come at a good rate and much content has been added and is planned for the future. The content being added also seems to indicate the devs are listening to what is said on the forums by the community. On the downside, bugs are widely exploited by people and the gms do very little to fix the problem(are not able/not allowed) while the devs communicate nothing at all. They rarely give any information about what they are planning and they will never ever reply to any of your questions. The forum mods are unpaid and unprofessional and it shows, they have very little real knowledge to offer the community above what your average veteran knows. If they hired a Community Manager to deal with the community and if they were more proactive about disabling exploits then I would have no complaints about the game. |

You really need to wait and play Mortal Online at release before you say how much better it is than Darkfall. Right now all Mortal Online has is a list of planned features and the developers goal for what they want. It might all sound fantastic but it actually needs to be in the game and it needs to work properly before you can say how amazing any of it is. The fact is that Darkfall will have gone through at least two expansions and numerous small patches by the time MO will release and MO cannot compete with how complete DF will be at that stage. MO may release in Q4 this year as they advertise, but if that happens it will be solely for budget reasons. I do hope that SV manage to pull it out of the bag and deliver what they promise but I have my doubts. |

I resubbed to check out the changes in 1.05, they did a lot of work and changes to how the classes work and how stats work but the gameplay is still basically the same. Pvp is even more focused on minigames now that they give XP rewards for winning and losing them. I went back and made a level 50 demo and did some questing but soon got bored as I had already levelled 3 characters through those zones. I logged onto my main and did some minigames and soon got bored of that too since I had been doing that non stop before I stopped playing.

They made an announcement last month with news about plans for the game and answers to commonly asked community questions.
Our number one concern is the quality of the experience for our existing users. We don’t want to create any problems by allowing too many new users in. This is why we have no boxes in the market, why we haven’t been promoting the game, why our new site isn’t up yet, why we don’t offer a free trial, why we don’t offer more payment options etc. We understand that Darkfall’s soft launch is unorthodox, but we are working hard to change all that while maintaining the best possible experience for our existing users."

Come in if you got 2nd email of Failed charge attempt...
General Discussion « Darkfall 2/27/09 2:19:57 PM
I changed to a new credit card last night and it went through today, I got the email earlier.
Sorry for all those who got rejected a second time, I was dreading that happening to me. :( |
|
|
I also rang my credit card company and there have been no attempts at charged from Aventurine or Darkfallonline.com. So they are not doing something right since my credit card details were definately correct.
As long as the actual cc number is right then the company will get an attempt on the card, if you have some part of your address or the expiry date wrong then the cc company will reject it. But it would still be recorded as an attempt. So it's pretty obvious there is something messed up with their accounts, maybe they can't fix it so the easiest way for them is to tell us it's a problem at our end.
I'd like to know if anyone did get a successful charge on their credit card this evening. They said a small percentage got through, or is that just to throw us off the scent. |

I'm having the same problem, I try to create a character and I get error 14001 and get sent back to the NDA screen... |

Yes the launch was broken but the game still rocks
General Discussion « Darkfall 2/26/09 9:07:01 AM
It's the same group of trolls that hang around the forums of every new release and post bs about the game failing and being doomed before it has even started. I mean come on really, it's irritating that you can't play on the day they advertise as release day but it's no reflection on the game itself. Since most of the content in the game is player created, we won't really see how much depth there is until a few months have passed and the world has had time to grow. The only real gripe I have with AV is the level of communication they offered while people were waiting to preorder etc... If they kept the community updated on a regular basis and gave times for when they would be up or they would post a delay then people could have gotten on with their lives. There was a lot of people that spent hours refreshing website etc. Constant feedback from the devs does a lot to reassure mmo players. Yes of course they were busy as hell but making a few forum posts doesn't take long.. |

Yup, spellweaving is used in raids, minigames, sieges, world pvp ... you name it. It looks just as cool as ever, I don't remember the animations changing but I played a bear shaman at that time. It has it's drawbacks aswell as it's usefulness of course in that you can't move while you use it. But in the right situation it's great. As to having to the way spellweaving was advertised pre launch, well it doesn't actually live up to that hype and it's a pretty simple process where you either have enough stamina to keep spell weaving or you stop because you will lose health once you are out of stamina. No real skill involved except choosing when you should use it or stay mobile. |

Yeah, people always use pots in pvp. But they are cheap and available to all so I don't see your problem with this one. ToS atm has huge aoe damage and can build up various abilities to do 3k crits but they are squishy as hell. Depending on your class you should be able to take one down fairly easily, at least a bear shaman can. PoM generally is the class it is supposed to be for cc and defensive healing although they have a divinity build that can do big crits similar to ToS also. The healers advantage has been lowered considerably now and many classes have an even shot in a fight, things are definately more balanced than Age of Healers period you are talking about. Bear Shamans are still quite strong but not unstoppable, pom is hard to kill for some classes but has low dps generally and ToS has huge aoe damage but can be killed quickly. Yes you can still sprint and kite as a caster etc but isn't that the idea of a caster. If you manage to catch one you can pretty much kill them with one combo. Necros are currently overpowered due to a bug with their spellweaving and a channeled spell grip of death but that has been fixed already on testlive. Ganking is probably frequent on the pvp servers.. I don't know. I am on rp-pvp and I have never had problems levelling any of my characters. But I suppose it depends on how much you like whining about being attacked and what your tolerance level is for it. Generally high levels attacking low levels isn't seen much on my server at least due to the murder point system. White sands is still a fun place to be to have some pvp though of course and always a ranger or two around there. Things from 50-80 are way way better now, theres a new zone called Ymirs pass which is 55-63 with a really fun dungeon in there. It is in my opinion the best zone I have seen in any mmo, its really that good! I leveled a couple of alts up recently and at level 76ish is where you start having to think about grinding if you want to solo all the way. If you do all the dungeons available for that level and some villas you can get to 80 without grinding at all. |
