I, for one, hope this game requires more time than a few weeks to reach the max level and the character development is spaced out. You get a much better sense of accomplishment when it takes some time and effort. Not to mention, most quick-leveling, fast developing games end up having an immature community that ruins the game experience. I'm not saying I want it to take years for an average player to cap, but progression of a character should take some time, and when things are earned, it is much more satisfying. |

Jedi Knight has a combat system that is designed for one player and while it is good, it doesn't seem like it would apply well to MMORPGs that have several classes and players who are looking for different play styles.
I find this game to be great so far in terms of story, graphical presentation, combat, and in community. Community, as in any MMO, is the most important, and often the most underrated, aspect of this type of game (without communities, MMOs are just weak single player games). Although AoC currently has its share of asses, for the most part, the community has been great. The game is missing a few things that I was expecting, but the pros far outweigh the cons so far for me, and a new MMORPG missing a few things is nothing new to the genre. MMORPGs are never finished and they are adding/fixing things quite quickly since release. This game is great for some, and bad for others. That's the bottom line (for any game really). I recommend to all reading: give it a try and see for yourself before taking the advice of any poster on these forums (myself included).

You put your thoughts out there for everyone to read and you got some feedback. Who cares if someone doesn't agree with you or doesn't like your view. Debating and discussing topics are the main reason to have these forums. Don't take people, or yourself for that matter, so seriously. That said, your post was well taken, but I disagree with some things. Particularly the bugs issue. Yes, there are some bugs, but for a mmorpg, thats to be expected at launch. Hell, there are games that have been out for years that have lots of bugs. Also, I've yet to find a bug that breaks the game for me. Frustrating to a point? Yes. But, not game breaking. This game has been great for me so far and it will only get better as they fix the issues.

No conspiracy or unclear shadowy happenings there. Just plain old BS imo. Anyway, I wasn't trying to argue over the 2000 election because I really didn't care who won it when it happened. I didn't really care for Gore or Bush (I never even voted). I was really just pointing out that Murdoch's name comes up a lot when people talk about "shady dealings" and a lot of people will be skeptical of him in general. edited for spelling |

Unfortunately , the topic of "whether or not I need a degree" is ever-ongoing, and mostly depends on opinion. However, I can give you a little insight on what the topic means to me and my career, relatively. First, whether they say it or not, a degree in anything is desired by companies. I have worked in my line of work for the last 4 years. I know my company and job inside and out, but I haven't finished my degree (very close though). Now, most of my peers will come to me with a question about work before they will our direct supervisor, who has a degree, because I'm usually more knowledgeable on things (not bragging, just saying how it is) and our supervisor tends to give people the run around when they ask a question. They wouldn't even be in that position, making more money, making all the decisions, if they didn't have a degree. I'm working on my degree mostly to show management and the owners of my company that i too am dedicated to this career and that I'm willing to take the "next step" to advance, and it's an accomplishment to be proud of. Get my point? Of course, this is all just my point of view. Your goals may be different and you may be happy with just being a part of the team. The bottom line is that most companies these days will not allow you to advance the way you may want to unless you have a degree, and some may not even hire you at all without it. Peace! |

Finally, some good, unbiased, true-to-the-core journalism.... OH WAIT!!! Rupert Murdoch??!! You mean the same guy who unshamefully kissed the asses, publicly supported, and shook the hands of communist Chinese oppressors to protect his investments? You mean the same guy who has been questioned and accused continually by millions for using his media power to influence the elections of not only the nation's, but the world's politicians? You mean the same guy who's company (FOX News) reported the 2000 US presidential elction to be won by George Bush (friend to Murdoch, and family-related to a top FOX News exec) before official results were released, but an official release revealed that it was not actually won by G-dubya?...... Hmmm... The good news is that he's very intelligent to have been able to accomplish the things he has, and that he's a man of money. Which is what the Wall Street Journal is all about. The bad news is that his ethics and personal loyalties will make many in the world skeptical, to say the least. *Breaking News Flash* Power over the media is second to none when it comes to deciding who has true power in the world. Stay tuned! There's more douchebagery to come! Edit: For all who don't know, Rupert Murdoch is a a monopolizing, media giant that just purchased the Wall Street Journal for 5 billion dollars, and yes, there's a good chance that the Wall Street Journal effects you. I don't expect a lot of people here to care about this, but I want to see what the MMORPG community thinks about this. |

Showing videos of a game's features generates hype and is a great tool for marketing so why wouldn't they want to show it off this close to launch? There's a good chance that the answer is that its not ready, and for all those features to be ready by the current release date looks to be a big task. But then, I'm not a developer so what would I know about how long it takes to create these things. Judging from what I've seen in other MMOs and how long devs work on a game's features before they're ready though, they have their work cut out for them if they want the game to be truly "complete" by their current release date. However, I don't think that an MMORPG is ever truly complete, but that's a different topic really. Here's hoping they are ready to release a polished product though. I'm ready to play a good MMORPG. Peace! |

Well, if all this is what they stick with for the final product, I doubt that I'll even give this game a try. I'm not too worried about the "no 360 v PC" thing. Although, the idea of being able to kill some of those lame-ass snob PC players, who somehow think they're superior gamers, on my 360, while sitting back in a recliner did sound pretty good. Before anyone starts vomiting the whole "mouse and keyboard>controller (looks like we won't know this time around), so pc>360" crap, please realize that the 360 supports mouse and keyboard as well. Whether or not the devs are smart enough to add the 360's mouse and key function, I don't know, but it doesn't seem to matter now either way. Anyway, the whole microtransaction thing is what really turns me off from this game. This means that I'd have to pay for this game, and pay the monthly fee, but I still won't be privy to everything this game has to offer unless I pay even more!? I don't know what the monthly fee will be, but if it's the normal $12-15/month, I won't be playing. Also, and this is may or may not be the case, but If these "microtransactions" give players any gameplay advantages, what makes them any different than transactions cheaters make with RMTs? |

With AoC going to console, WAR likely to eventually go to console (saying WAR because their was a job posting at EA for a producer to bring the upcoming Warhammer mmorpg to console), and the rapidly growing console gamer base, I'd expect a lot more dev teams to follow the way of AoC, and get their games to multiple platforms. It only makes $ense.

I said the 360 runs games just as well, if not better than a lot of the better PCs out there, and that's based on my peronal observations that I have no reason to bullshit about. If you're talking just single-frame resolution, then of course the PC version will have the potential to look better. TV resolution cannot match monitor resolution... no shit. But, the 360's gpu has capabilities above dx9, so unless you have a dx10 card, I'd expect the 360 expect it to look just as good or better than the PC version, and it will likely run smoother. Want some expert info on the 360's gpu and capabilities (I'm certainly no expert)? Google some developer comments on it, or even ATI's official comments on it. Peace!

To give you some real reference; ATI (developer of the 360's gpu) and many game developers alike, have said that the 360 has more graphical capability than dx9, and most all of the graphical capabilities that dx10 has. You think the console version of AoC will be "deep sixed"? Oh, you're right because look how the inclusion of console versions killed FFXI (*this sentence - saturated with sarcasm*). AoC will be an even bigger hit just because there will be a console version.

Most people saying that the 360 can't compete with the power of a PC, have never seen what a 360 can do. When it comes to the sole purpose of playing games, the 360 outperforms most any PC on the market. Even today, a year and a half after it's launch. My PC isn't the greatest, but its definitely no slouch (8800gts 640mb, c2d 6600, 2g RAM, 250gb), and of the games I've played on both platforms, my 360 plays them all just as well (most of the time better). Also, I spent $400 on my 360, and its still just as powerful (gaming-wise) as the top o' the line PCs almost two years later. So I'm happy with my investment in the 360. I have to spend about $400 a year to keep my PC up to date so their really is no comparison when it comes to the price. Don't get me wrong, I like my PC a lot too. I play plenty of games on it, and it does a thousand things that my 360 simply can't do. When it comes to pure gaming though, the 360 is a great machine, and it runs at the front with the best of PCs. Look for a lot of future MMORPGs to expand into the console market. More potential players-> more potential income-> better quality product/content (supposed to work this way). Simple concept, and I'm gald to see that a lot of devs have recognized it. Peace! |

I was recently able to get a buddy key, and just finished the free 14-day trial. I'm definitely glad I tried it, and saw for myself what the real deal was on this game. First thing I noticed and have to mention are the graphics. To me, they are the best I've ever seen in an mmo. I tried LOTRO and thought that it was best looking mmorpg yet (environment-wise anyway, the character and gear graphics look like ass in LOTRO imo), but Vanguard definitely beats it in looks. I was able to run the game at it's highest settings everywhere I went with very good frame-rates except when in towns and there were a lot of players on screen. Then I'd just turn down a couple things in the settings and it ran smoothly (8800gts 640mb, c2d 6600, 2g RAM, 1680x1050). The quests were engaging for the most part, and there were a ton of things to do. However, I did find a couple quests that weren't quite right, and It takes a while to get into the main story line. I really liked the combat in this game. It kept me more involved than most other mmorpgs have. One thing that was lacking in the game though, and the only reason I somewhat hesitate to buy the full version, is that the number of other players online can be really low at times, and we all know how much it sucks when you're unable to finish something beacause you can't find anybody to team up with. If half the things that people were saying about this game at launch were true, then this game has taken leaps and bounds improvement-wise in just a few months. As the OP said, if you haven't tried this game in awhile, or are thinking about trying it, I strongly recommend you give it a shot. Oh, If you've got nothing better to do than to bitch about, and insult people who like a damn video game that you don't like, you're fucking lame. Peace! |

That is a form of viral marketing. Your example is also a form of viral marketing. Viral marketing is the most used, and sought out form of marketing there is, and there are many forms of it. To be considered viral marketing, they just have to meet that simple definition. |
