Sure the CU and NGE are worse than pre cu and pre cu could have been a great game but come on people you must all reember how bad the game was back then.

No one has been saying that SWG didn't have problems Pre-CU.  What has been said, many times in fact, is that Pre-CU was far better than SWG today.  I'm sure most vets can come up with a laundry list of things that needed to be tweaked, fixed, and added to SWG and despite its flaws it was superior to the NGE.  In my opinion, Pre-CU SWG was the finest MMO ever created even with its flaws.  It was a living breathing entity until it was dragged into the street, curbed, shot, stabbed, disembowled, and quartered.

Yeah, I agree with this. Beside which most of the issues pre-CU had didn't really affect me, at least not beyond a level of reasonable control.

But still I think the underlying message should be that SoE released a product that they didn't stand behind. They've lost my faith and trust in doing the right thing for the consumers/subscribers they have.

If SoE doesn't value me as a customer how am I supposed to value their products?

I was just thinking that maybe it would be worthwhile to give the current subscribers one month free to celebrate 5 years of SWG.

I think you guys deserve it more then anyone!

Well, I just finished another 30 day trial earlier this month and quite frankly I was still bored out of my mind.

Levels and loot just isn't for me.

SWG may be dying, but not being part of the E3 show doesn't mean much. Hell, Planetside, Matrix Online and Pirates of the Burning Sea aren't listed either. So from your perspective on things, all 3 of those games are dead too.

Who knows, it could also mean that SCE is looking at streamlining their catelog of MMO's now that the online division is under new leadership.

Trimming the fat so to speak.

I'd also like to note that I believe it was Jestor that pointed out that Smed didn't include SWG in one of his speaches recently.

All I can say is that if SWG was a stock I certainly wouldn't be investing in it right now.

One little fact that has me believe NGE was in the works and known about buy devs and suits alike is:

1.  SWG ED came out in a box

2.  JTL came out in a box

3.  ROTW came out in a box

4.  ToOW came out as a digital download only, no box

5.  Starter pack came out in a box

6.  COA came out in a box

First three and last two marketed and pressed boxes expecting sales.

Number 4 digital only because massive demands for refunds were to be expected.  It costs money to press media boxes.  More over it takes time to make, press, and distribute to have the product in place to sale in stores for launch date.  They didn't do this long process because they new they would lose money after pissing people off.  I even remember SOE selling pre-orders for the digital download a month before ToOW launch.  No month ahead pre-orders for it in any stores I went to.  Oh and those stores never received boxes.

You know, I always wondered about that too.

The day ToOW came out I went to EBGames to buy it, and obviously I was surprised that the store clerks had no idea what I was talking about. I had a bad feeling about buying the digital download as everything else I bought was a retail version. That evening something didn't quite feel right.

I should have gone with my gut feeling  : (

lol what?

From my perspective I saw many old friends return during the CU and saw allot of new players too. I don't think it rose to or beyond earlier levels but since SOE never gave out sub numbers we will never know. Almost every single friend who came back and played through the CU left as soon as they saw the NGE.

I'm sure many people did return after the CU.

But I chose Lowca as my server on June 26/27 because it was mid-way down the server list. The servers at the top were FULL or very close to it so my friend and I wanted to be sure we could create toons on the same server. Even then I think Lowca may have still even got as high as very heavy or heavy, as did so many servers that first month.

Didn't you just point  to the AoC forums in another thread trying to imply that AoC was having problems and people were leaving?

Isn't that hypocritical?

Soemthing else to consider Gutboy is that people left SWG to try AoC for a reason. Even if some are coming back it does show that people are actively searching for a replacement to Galaxies.

Wouldn't that be the "vocal minority"?

Amen to that ArcAngel!

I just want to once again trust in the company I'm doing business with. I want to be assured that they value me as a customer, and I wont be taken advantage of.

I really don't think that that is an unreasonable expectation.

OK, I really want to understand this from your point of view. You are stating that SWG has to die ( I assume you mean be shut down, servers are turned off) before another Star Wars MMO can be created/released?

Then by this line of reasoning Bioware CANNOT be making a Star Wars MMO. And if you do state that Bioware IS making a Star Wars MMO then what possible difference does SWG make to you then?

Who's to say that SWGs days aren't already numbered and the execution date has already been internally agreed upon? I do happen to agree with the others that speculate there cannot be two SW MMOs running at the same time, that does not at all mean a new one cannot be in development (as Nancy 'reading is teh hard' has already stated, and new SW MMO IS in planned). SWG took 4 years of developement before releasing, it would be stupid to think that SWG has to be offline before developement begins on it's successor.

Since it's all but proven that there is another SW MMO in developement (and production never starts without at least a tentative release date), it's pretty safe to assume that somewhere there is a clock ticking, counting down the days till SWG's appointment with the firing squad.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking to.

As dishonest as it may be to it's subscribers it's very likely that if SoE knew that SWG was shutting down they wouldn't inform those people until the last possible moment so they could ensure maximum profit until that time.

I think the important thing to take notice of is that many current subscribers are looking for an alternative to SWG. Of course SWG has it's die-hard players, but there seems to be so many people that are ready to move on to the next MMO when and if something intriguing comes along.

Investing time into an MMO where the community is ready to leave is very disheartening IMO.

During my last vet trial, which ended around June 9th, the best I saw was about 5 medium servers, a handfull of light servers, and the vast majority of servers remaining as very light.

However since the initilal month had past on AoC I created a trial account to take a look again and I did see one server go as high as heavy, but still it appears as though AoC has had an effect on SWG's population.

The only reason I can explain it is people like defending the underdog or they just fall in love with lost causes.

Great points from the original poster though.

I agree.

Lowering your expectations never leads to anything good. I mentioned in another thread today that I didn't start playing SWG because it was SW. I was interested in SWG because it offered something that other MMO's were not offering. Most of what SWG has to offer me now can be found in so many other games that are infinetly better in quality - and what is left in SWG is not worth my $15/month IMO.

Besides, why would I pay when I'm almost guaranteed free time every few months?  ; )

I've heard so many positive things about it, particularily from ex-SWG folk, that I'd give it a shot. It sounds like it has the elements I'm looking for in an MMO.

I will admit that I enjoyed the game so much that it did spark some SWG interest for me...I read a few books to learn more of the lore to further enhance my game play, and I bought a few SWG knick-knacks for my husband. Needless to say that I no longer have the same fascination, nor I have I purchased any SWG trinkets/books in over 2 1/2 years.

Bladerunner would be a great game theme, but I also think Firefly/Serenity would be awesome as well.

That was my experience as well Kazara. I was more interested in the systems of pre-CU then the SW experience. That's not to say I wasn't a fan of SW, but rather I was looking for an MMO that offered something different - like a simulated world.

But the funny thing is I just finished watching the Firefly DVD series and I was totally blown away. So yeah, I can see that working also.

But I think that the crafting system and entertainer profs would work better in a Bladerunner game.

And to help celebrate those five years of bad decisions maybe I'll take up smoking and driving without wearing a seat belt.  : )
