I liked the video.  I hope the game gets a real shot because this genre needs some new blood.  Hopefully they won't launch too close to either WoW xpac or WAR, I honestly think that would be disasterous.

As far as all the hype mongering above, remember... In mid-2004 EQ2 was going to be the game to end all games.  WoW wasn't really even being talked about.  It wasn't until WoW did their open beta that everyone made the shift.  WoW *is* the exception to almost everything, sure.  But it really didn't have the hype.

As mentioned above - if you launch a solid, fun game that is content complete and functional, you will almost surely generate hype.

The #1 complaint from players is overinstancing yet nothing about removing it. Embrace that.

How would you go about fixing it?  From what I saw, the instances are so small that they needed to make multiple copies just to support the population.  Crappy design?  Yup.  But I don't see a way to fix it at this point.   Maybe in the future they can make bigger zones or something, but at this point they're looking at redesigning the game to fix it.

Don't get me wrong... I made it to lvl 45 in about 2 weeks and called it quits.  They pissed me off by releasing the framework of a game, not an actual game.  I'll check it out when they get things in order, maybe.

I anticipated this one for more than a year.  I was as excited as any other person waiting for this game.

My Guardian made it to the 40s until I realized it was the most shallow game I've ever played.  Even the meatier stuff that would have kept me busy (player cities, gathering, crafting, theorycrafting) is either broken or NYI.  So last night I canceled and uninstalled.  Fastest $50 game I ever went through.

If you like this game, awesome.  I'm glad you found enjoyment out of it.  But I am very disappointed.  To me, Funcom really dropped the ball on getting this world ready.   Hopefully in six months they'll have a great game going for you guys.  I might check back then.  But patching in the game months after you sold us the framework is unacceptable.  Shame on you, Funcom.

Nothing has been officially stated, but I've heard 8 characters per account tossed around for nearly a year.  Of course, that's got people pissed because there's 12 classes in game.  But w/e.  It's not in stone yet.

I spend $40 a week in gas.  So $50 bucks really doesn't seem like much anymore.  :(  Even if it sucks, it's not like I'm out much.

Open Beta - pay to get in

Early entry - pay to get in

I wonder what other micro transactions are waiting for us?

Although if it is a true "open" beta the NDA will be lifyed on May 1st and if it really that bad people will be able to post on here.If the NDA is still in place then it isn't open at all.

Just to clarify, the early entry fee is $5 and nets you 10 extra days paid in-game.  I understood their reasoning on this, mainly because they need to rent a server farm to let the thousands of people download early on the 13/14th.  So paying $5 upfront wasn't a big deal to me (and shouldn't be to others) because you're still getting time for the game.

As far as the open beta issue, that's still a bunch of garbage.  And yes, I'm concerned that they might wind up going RMT at some point.  They don't seem to have any issues changing the rules halfway through.

Course it is. Can you imagine trying to download a beta client as huge as AoC through anyhting less than a dedication professional download site?

Torrent?!?

Seriously.  Making us go through FP or Gamespot for the pvp beta is all about marketing.

To clarify:  This is not an open beta.  It is, in fact, a closed beta whereby one needs to subscribe to a service to apply.  There's nothing "open" about it.

I'm not really happy with Funcom's choice, but w/e.  It just frustrates me that they told us all along there would be an open beta, when there's really not.

Lol

I read the title as "Adventure into the Glitch".

No joke.

A lot of what he said is true about the game, but I'm actually having fun with it regardless.  Ever since I've been into MORGs, I have a hard time getting into single player games... they just don't feel dynamic enough.  But with the Witcher I'm actually having fun.  It might be the first game in years outside of MORGs I've had a decent time with.  Then again, like he said... it's a lot like a MMORPGER.  :)

After the BS they pulled with stealing my $50 on Hellgate, they can shove Mythos where the sun don't shine.  Won't even play it free.

Due to a work schedule change, I can't raid with my WoW guild for at least the next 6 months... so I decided earlier today to reup my LotRO account and casual play for a month or two.

L O L  I have the worst (or maybe best) luck.

Can't agree more.

I've got all four boxes that I bought retail.  I simply prefer hard copies of everything I buy.  I've been a faithful customer, yet I'm left in the cold on this.  It's poor form on Arena.net's part.  They really need to look at anyone who has all the games/xpacs on an account and just let them have it.

I want to point out that a "huge" (the dev's word) content patch is scheduled for the 9/25, this review should have waited till then.  Crafting is reportedly getting a huge face lift, so any discussion about that needs to wait till we see what they are installing.  I just hope the memory leak gets fixed, I'm tired of seeing my ram usage go from 30% to 98% over 2 hours of play time.  I am personally on the fence about this game, I enjoy it but have reservations about it's long term ability to keep my interest, but I'll wait on this up coming patch to see what changes they have actually added.

Every single game I've beta tested that has received poor reviews before release has said the same thing:   "We've got a huge patch coming that will fix everything!!"

Every single one of them has failed; I've learned that lesson.  A 'huge' patch isn't going to fix a poorly designed game that is going to wind up going the way of  Auto Assault in a year.  I *still* can't believe that RG spent seven years with the TR concept only to come up with this pile of code.

Good luck to those who enjoy the game - I wish you well.  Just don't expect a long life from TR.

As far as she could tell, that life and the people who were in it were gone forever. Today, not even two years later, Sarah Morrison was a Sergeant in the AFS, on her way to infiltrate a Bane outpost.

---------------------

She's roughly 21.  19 at the attack, not even two years later.

But yeah, the story is meh.  I'd love more detail to the carnage the Bane left behind and her experience in being transferred into another world.  This story's like the game:  Bland, unpolished and lacking depth.  RG's cashing a paycheck and has lost touch.  How long has this game been in development and the best he can do is a half-assed WoW?

If you've bought everything you can buy through their store, they better just give you the damn thing.

I've got all three games but not the PvP versions, and frankly I'm a little peeved they're not giving it away either.

Well, I really enjoyed BC quite a bit.  But I burned through the solo grind to 70 within a few weeks and now I'm back to logging only on raid nights.  You can tell when they need to release more content when you start seeing funny named corpses show up in front of the banks... now they're in Shat rather than IF.  People are bored.

The biggest negative change was that it caused our 2 1/2 year old guild to fracture.  Not so much because of the drop from 40 to 25 players, rather they upped the basic skill level needed for progression.  My previous guild that I played with since WoW's launch was a casual raiding guild.  In that two year span we put MC and BWL on farm and were starting to make progress in AQ40, all while not being 'hardcore'.   Pre-BC, we could take 10-15 people with us who simply weren't very good, but wanted to see the content.

Post-BC, we found that there really was no room for people that can't perform at standard levels of class abilities.  We found ourselves stuck at Aran for months, literally, because DPS sucked and we couldn't get players to consistently show up.  So those of us who wanted to be more serious about it left...  and took the dark path down into elitism.

It sucks... some of those we left behind weren't very good players, but they were friends.  Now a lot of them we can't even talk to because they feel slighted because we left them.  Sad part is, the content now is no different than the content then.

I know it's been said 100 times before, but if they released a server with only EQ, Kunark and Velious I would subscribe for life.  It really is the game I hold all others to.  So many good memories.

I can't watch those two uneditted versions.   Can someone tell me if they start any earlier?  For instance were the kids just filming themselves throughout the day and then the cop comes up to them?  Or does it once again start with the Cop arresting one of the kids?  If the kids were just out filming themselves skateboarding and then caught what the cop did be happenstance then I do think the cop over reacted.  But if once again the video doesn't show what really happened before the Cop arrived I think the video is an example of creative editting.

I highly doubt the cop acted that way to some kids just because he doesn't like skateboarding.  I find it a lot more likely that the kids did something inflamatory to the Police officer first.

The two unedited videos do not start any earlier.  Rather than 'creative editing', it starts as if the camera is running up to the area where the first kid is being handcuffed.  It's not 'editing'.  It's just the first point that the taping of this incident occurs.

You're entirely correct in the fact that ANYTHING could have happened before the camera got there.  But in the last part of the second video the cop goes around to each of the 3-4 kids and explains to them each why they're being arrested.  From memory, one gets 'skateboarding: prohibited'.  The kid who said to the cop in the beginning "I've got a picture of this" then runs away, gets 'fleeing and resisting arrest'.  Another kid gets 'battery and skateboarding', but we can't see for what reason although the cop alludes to his shin being hurt.  I think the kid that got battery is the kid who was in the double headlock with the girl (she got away, I think).  While he's telling them what they're arrested for, he's calling into the station to put other cars in the area to arrest the kids that got away.

At no point did he make mention of the first kid in handcuffs in the video having assaulting him or anyone else.  In fact, it seems as if that kid is simply being arrested for 'skateboarding: prohibited'.

If by effective you mean "I can't browse the site while waiting for a group to form because of the ingame lag it causes when I tab in and out", then sure.

The ad did it's job... it got the name in my head.  But I promise to never play the game because of how annoying the ad is.  So it really didn't work all that well.  Just my 2 coppers.

Cops are just people too.  I know that half of the posters here wouldn't put up with someone mouthing off to them or showing contempt towards them.  So don't get all preachy on the cop because of the "poor kids".  I have seen some of the posters here go off for a lot less.  I am sure if the video had started at the beginning we would of seen what caused the problem and I am postive that it was caused by the skaters.  Their attitude they showed in the video especially at the end when they say Happy skateboarding day shows that they were out to do this.  So the blame needs to be placed on the skaters where it belongs.  It is pretty easy to show that the cop was being aggressive at that point, but it is possible that the kids were riding the skateboards and knocking people over etc way before the video starts.  Heck those kids could of been mouthing off to the cop swearing at him, calling him names, and maybe even assaulting the cop for all you know.

Cops may be people too but they dont get to whip the shit out of people for calling them names sorry. I agree the kids were up to no good but there is an expected level of behavior from our cities finest. cops deal with scum bags all the time it comes with the territory. The line between bum and honorable officer is demonstrated by action and control. Its too bad that most often we get the bums over the men.

You don't know that is what happened.  For all we know the cop asked them to stop skateboarding there and they threw a punch at him.  Or spit on him which in most states constitutes assault.

There's links up at youtube to the uncut videos - in 2 parts.  We still don't see what instigated the choking, but at the end of the second video the cop tells each kid individually what they're being arrested for.  At no time does he say anything regarding assault.  Honestly, I'll bet the cop just got pissed because the kids were skating, thought he'd make an example of one kid and wound up going waaay overboard.

How do we know the videos are uncut?  I am sorry but I don't trust video evidence at all when it comes to circumstances like this.  Too often the videos are just like the news media.  They only tell the side of the story that they want you to know.

Here:

www.youtube.com/watch-  edited version shown above 4.25

www.youtube.com/watch -  uncut pt 1 2.35

 www.youtube.com/watch- uncut pt 2 4.23

Just to be clear - pt1 and pt2 there's no cuts between.  It's not really all that much more than what's in the edited video.

I'm not saying the kids were in the right on this one... they need to be cited if they broke a law.  But I strongly doubt that arrests are generally issued for misdemeanors, and I can only assume skateboarding in prohibited areas is a misdemeanor.  The real issue here is that the cop was out of line.  If I ever saw a cop manhandling my daughter like that over such a small offense, it would have become a felony on my part for sure.

At no point did he "protect and serve".
