Yeah, lowest common denominator has never been a convincing argument for me.

Yeah I'm being a dick for posting that people should have backup gear. I guess guys with 'proud wow player' in their sig can't grasp gameplay beyond the basics, so I won't stoop to calling names like you.

After a lame Achatans Lair group last night I'm inspired make this post - binding stones are available for a reason!
Always make sure you carry enough bound gear to be able to fight your way to your corpse. If you don't want to bind your uber sword of doom or whatever so you can sell it when you upgrade; then for chrissakes carry another weapon in your backpack that IS soulbound. In other words, even if you like to trade gear as I do, at least carry some bound spare gear so you can still fight. Having your group wipe deep in a dungeon, then releasing to the altar and having most of the group say "what corpse run? I summoned my corpse because I can't get it naked" is Bullshit. There's quite a few newbs in this game. I blame WoW :) |

After the big disappointment with LOTRO, quite surprised with vanguard
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/21/07 8:34:57 AM
I haven't logged into LOTR since I bought Vanguard; and I beta'd both for a few months. LOTR remind me of WoW...easy, everything is soulbound....and the combat is uninspired.

VanGRIND. Honest. Unless long grinds make you feel good about yourself ...
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/18/07 11:57:43 AM
Lol, any crafting is mind numbingly boring to me anyways. So I could give a shit about Vanguards crafting hehe..
As far as the adventuring 'grind'...just play the game and don't worry about XP. Its not a race to max level. There's lots of content to enjoy, quests to do, groups to hook up with. Concentrate on that and the XP will come. |

If you are canceling vanguard give Eq2 a try.
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/16/07 8:21:43 PM
I played EQ2 for the first year and it pretty much sucked compared to Vanguard. Gameplay restrictions galore, heavy instancing, crappy loot drops, nonexistent community outside your guild, TLC, attunement.... yech.
Vanguard is a much more worthy successor to EQ imo. |

Haha, bring it on

given vanguards problems should it be made free to play ?????

Lol @ all the whiners here.
Vanguard is the best game since EQ imo...the odd bug at launch is expected. |

Nights in Vanguard are STUPID, USELESS and UNREASONABLE
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/09/07 9:12:21 AM
Is this a joke? I've never had a problem seeing at night in Vanguard, or felt the need to adjust the gamma or anything.
Heck in beta, people used to complain that night was too bright. Seriously, the WoW generation simply has no idea about anything different than WoW pablum. Yes night IS DARKER than day, deal with it. Jeez in EQ you actually couldn't see at night without a torch. In Vanguard you can see everything at night just fine. Maybe some people have monitor issues or something. |

If you like TLC, attunement and other gameplay restrictions, EQ2 may be your thing.
I played for the first year. Everyone I knew quit within a few months. With all the instances and locked encounters there's little sense of community. Not to mention raid mobs dropping wooden chests of crap. I especially loved the dungeons where all the drops woudln't be usable until you were 10 levels higher. |

Yeah, well said.
" I have finally gotten that creepy, scared feeling back when playing this game" Exactly! I get emotional reactions playing I haven't felt since EQ. A lot of that is the death penalty I think. Deaths with basically no penalty like WoW just make the game more frivolous. if I die in Vanguard I get pissed! But I'm motivated to play well and take some care. Plus when you get a nice drop in Vanguard it actually means something. Unlike WoW where so much loot drops it all has to be soulbound. |

I love how 90% of the critics on this game are WoW fans with crappy machines. But of course its Vanguards fault the game
doesn't run well on their 2 ghz celeron with 512 meg ram. Also I guess when you're used to getting things basically handed to you in wow, being led about by the newb friendly quests, soloing to 60, and getting slapped on the wrist for dying, playing a more hard core game can be a bit disconcerting. For me Vanguard is definitely the best mmorpg since EQ. I'd actually say its better. |

Wow this site is full of ex SWG'ers with a huge axe to grind. Not sure what that has to do with Vanguard though!
I'm always surprised some people actually liked SWG, ever....I remeber trying it after beta. Huge EMPTY world, you had to craft to make healing kits (puke) , no dungeons at release, no decent loot at release, huge faction grind to get pets, etc...,.all in all pretty crappy. And then to get Jedi you had to max basically every single profession - talk about endless grind! I think the NGE came along because the game was doing so poorly anyways. |

SOE's stench is all over this game
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/06/07 1:01:36 PM
What a load of crap. I play with 1.5 gigs ram on a 2 year old system and its usually fine on balanced settings. There was one place near Three Rivers I had to turn it to 'performance settings'....but hey I only have a 128 meg geforce 6800, so thats not a big deal.
I also have never seen a grapical glitch on my Nvidia card. |

I bought the game today and I was shocked how bad it is.

Well the OP thinks SWG was good, so there goes my respect for his opinion of any game lol

Thank you to those who criticized Vanguard
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 1/29/07 3:41:13 PM
The game is great. I was in beta since 2005 and even very recently was unsure whether I'd buy it.
I did, and I must say I'm impressed as heck. All the hitching and crappy performance basically disappeared in the last couple of weeks. I run a 2 year old P4 3.4 ghz, 1.5 gig ram and geforce 6800 - and I run quite well at Balanced resolution, 1024x768. Looks like I may have found the mmorpg 'home' I've been waiting for since EQ1. We'll see once I get some more levels! |
