Nice OP. As for the chap in quotes here, he must be a viral marketer for Blizzard or he is on some sort of crusade, check his post history.

Now thats a typical fantroll response ;)

AoC had its problems just as WAR does.

Dont try to butter it up.

Remember you can put lipstick on a pig, But..........Its still a Pig !!! :D

Read bodypass's post history and then read the post you qutoed which said 'check his post history'.  He is and always will be a troll.  You can't fantroll a troll they would cancel each other out.  AoC had serious, serious, deep game problems.  WAR is smooth as butter into launch and actually gets better as you level if you like it's style of gameplay.  Comparing WAR and AoC just tells us you didn't play both games at any reasonable level.

Hey man you can come up with all the excuses about why the fantrolls are hard are work just as the anti-trolls.

But I see it here just as every other launch the past 4 years.

Also alot of moderation going on as well here and other sites trying to hide one side of the conversation.

I realize these are fansites and that WAR does not have a site for people who play the game to talk about it.

So you would think the damn fan sites would at least be fair enough to allow all types of posts regarding the game.

The combat is just like I thought it would be even though people said ohhh its faster now after they patched it up awhile back.

Faster compared to what????? A freaking three toed sloth??

Anyhow since I am more of a FPS type of gamer I will leave you all to your world of monitoring what people have to say craft :)

Have fun enjoying your game I hope they get the issues worked out and you guys have a good launch!

Later

Look man you can get off that beta excuse its way past time for that kinda crap.

And yes they should listen when they can wait for it and get it cheaper after its fixed.

After reading all the hype and days of threads about whats right and whats wrong.

Whats the real truth here??

Is it BoreHammer or not?

same things done over again??

Or something new and different?

I mean I see all the hype that I know is way out there as well as the contest defending against even fair reviews of the game.  SO comon here be honest after 2 months Bored or not?

It's not WoW... and it's not DAoC.......is it starting to look like a turd ? j/k ;)

Anyhow time will tell, but from the looks of things they should hold it back and polish it abit more before release.  Better off to have a more polished game and get it right than push it out early.

I said it when AoC was in beta and approaching a fixed release date and I'll say it again... WAR will need a good 6 months after release to iron out the bugs, imbalances.  I'm still having fun in elder beta and plan to join several weeks after release but anyone expecting WoW/LotRO/EQ2 stability and polish is going to be disappointed.

I don't think you're going to have to worry about the more rational people realizing its not going to be a polished game upon release and those are the people that will give a more objective review of the game.

Well thats the thing about MMO's now adays and WoW.

People are used to polish and ease.

They will judge it by that and wether its REALLY fun not if they have to work at it to have fun.

It seems that every type of character gets pretty much the same skills.  Each healer gets the same skills....direct heal, HoT, a direct dmg, a DoT.  Each tank gets the same skills....At least up until lvl10.  Haven't played past that, but if the pattern continues, then ...just seems like they didn't put much room for difference.

SO the characters of the same class are just copy paste?

I am not a Warhammer follower, so sorry if i get my info wrong, just a quick question, I am really trying to understand this game before i make a decision on whether or not i will purchase and play Warhammer.

Can anyone explain what the end game is? Like what is the purpose, is it to capture and destroy your enemies city? Then what? Do you just do the same thing over and over and over, like that is the end game? to keep on destroying your enemies city?

So was it lacking or just the same thing at the end as at lower levels?

Its funny watching the fanbois and trolls go at it. Honestly, I find myself agreeing with just about every post made by each side.

We saw this same thing go down prior to AOC release, and I think I can safely say we are not looking at another AOC debacle.  The game is fun and quite playable. The game is neither as awesome as the fanboi raves it is, and it is certainly not some bug filled snooze fest that the trolls are labeling it as.  The game won't be a huge runaway hit, but it won't be a flop either. Its not gonna put too much of a hurt on WoW's numbers, but it will be a success and has lots of room to grow over the years and it probably will have a large dedicated following during those years. Again, its good enough to succeed and find its place rather high up on the MMO population charts, but its not that "OMG this is what we have been waiting for" type of game.

Its true mobs sometimes stun themselves in place for a few seconds while being pulled.  Doesn't happen all the time and its not a gamebreaker.  Its also true that auctioneers and the bank don't even work, however, I doubt thats gonna be a huge hurdle to put in and in a game like this they should have just come up with something new anyways then the standard auctioneer and banker.

Its also true the game is very smooth and probably one of the more polished betas in recent memory.  We can nitpick, but I saw nothing really gamebreaking.  Its also true the game is relatively lag free in all but the biggest of battles.

There are some innovative things, the graphics are nice, not amazing, but their cool. The music and sounds are well done. Don't kid yourselves, its not coming to the plate with near the bells and whistles that WoW did at launch.  There is a lot of stuff missing.

I saw quite a few few beta reviews starting off with comments like "lets get this right out of the way, the game looks nothing like wow"......uh... huh???  Its true its a little grittier and more realistic, but its also a bit more bland and looks a heckuva lot like WoW with all the exaggerated architecture and landscaping.  My wife doesn't know a thing about these games and when she walked throught the room she did a double take and asked "is this the new game you said you were gonna try, or the one you played before".  I told her it was the new one, she hmmmped, said it looked just like the other one, and kept on walking.

Its true the big cities have giant buildings and a sense of grandeur, its also true their kinda vanilla and and empty. Personally I thought the capital cities in Pirates of the Burning Sea were more exciting than the 2 capitals that are making it to launch. There are some cool elements but I shudder to think what the ones looked like that got cut.

Its also true this is a PVP'ers game as Mythic has stated from the start.  The shortcomings this game will have at launch will in no way keep a PVE'er around.  If your a PVP'er though, their might be enough fun in it for you to overlook the warts.  PVP is everywhere!  Heck I did more leveling PVP'ing than I did PVE'ing, and I had a good time.

So who should you believe the fanbois or the trolls?....... errrrr both actually.

Um and people should buy WAR because??  I mena there are already other games out right now that offer good PvP even great PvP.

I mean what really does it have to offer as far as PvP thats not already out there?

Oh before you start flaming me...I never played wow.

aoc forums were better. official ones.

aoc forums(1st month) > war beta preview.

Well that depends you have not released yet ;) and because there are no official forums expect to see alot of action here soon! :D

Did you find any game breaking bugs, unfinished quests, stuff like that?

Beta is over now basically and the hyping is starting to get alittle too much IMHO.

I would really start to be honest and open about things and discuss the issues of the game.

Try to remember they do not have forums for people to go to on their site and that you will be facing alot more in the coming weeks here than usual because of this.

His review is honest and shows what he thinks about the game.

Also as stated Preview Weekend  this is the start of the ramp up to release.

Ive been reading these forums alot the past 2 months and have been playing AoC and Warhammer ( I beta tested war for over 1 1/2 years ).

So many people have posted that they hate AoC and Funcom and are going to warhammer. So after the whole tryout weekend or what have you.. the people who have played warhammer... does it blow AoC away like you  though it would?

My opinion..

AoC seams to have more action based combat and  a shit ton of potential if funcom can fix it!

Warhammer is very polished.. but the combat is a little slow.. and  can get rather boring fast. Also im not really sure where mythic can go with warhammer besides adding more content like wow does! (im mainly taking about features they can add later on based off of what the game has to offer now)

Just to get this out of the way.. this post isnt about what game i like more or what game i think is better. Im just wondering if people think warhammer as a game blows aoc out of the water like so many have said. Now i know people are going to bring up the lies, bugs, issues, no content etc thats fine but aoc isnt going to have all those issues.. and when that days comes... (i hope sooner than later) will people still think war is better?

If you would like me to go into details on anything please let me know!

Thanks

Good post, imo.

I jsut want to give my opinion about the speed of combat. It's important that people know that they will not kill fast or die fast.  You have to be hit a lot before dying, some classes more than others, of course.

I agree the combat in AoC is faster than WAR.  The combat in DAoC is faster than in WAR, imo.  It's not the stun, nuke, nuke, nuke, dead of DAoC hehehe.  It's not the fast peace of AoC.  It's more like people will have a few second to decide actually what to do depending in the situation and it wont be just to see how has the fastest reflexes.  Of course, I may be totally wrong.

You said you a beta tester so you should know that Mythic raise the TTK based on feedback.  We may like it or not but its what it is.

I think people will have to try and see if they like it or not.  I actually like it but I am sure others, like you wont.

Many wont agree with us that the combat is slow.  Probably because they actually like it so they dont feel it slow.  And here remains the hard part of all this: it's a taste thing... like graphics.  The TTK is a taste thing.

So each person will have a different opinion about it.

About if WAR blows AoC out of the water... I am not english speaker... I am not sure what that phrse means... but I think AoC did that to itself without the help of anyone ;)

This whole is AoC or is WAR thing comes down to what some people like or dont like.

WAR is a new game that is being released soon and will have problems just like ALL the other MMO's that released.

You can bet they will be hit very hard all across the web right off the bat because they do not offer a place for customers to post complaints.

AoC's combat will appeal to some people  just lIke WARs combat will.

Gameplay will appeal to some people as well.

WARs problem is that its too much like the other games out already in alot of ways and this will leave a bad taste in the mouth of those who bought into the hype being spread.

AoC had the hype thing going on as well, but because of that people are looking at WAR as their last chance to actually find a game thats new and exciting.

It could be that WAR faces more wrath than AoC did right out of the box because soo many people are expecting too much.

Anyhow again Good Luck keep the hype in check and be honest it will go along way.

Honestly, what do you think the beta is for then? Its only a valid excuse for the graphics, not the bugs. Yet, at the same time that is what the beta is for, flushing out said bugs, testing what they release, and generally making sure that its as polished as possible before release.

You are entering the pre sale beta phase.

In other words beta is really over and alot of things will ship as they are now.

Yes they have time for a few corrections, but IF the release date is the 18th of sept?

They onlt have a couple more weeks to polish up a few things.

Not enough  time to really fix anything major or add very much.

Basically the REAL beta is over.

Question when is release?

sept 18th?

The "STFU, ITS BETA" remark really doesn't hold up well now-a-days.  I remember betaing LotRO and that game honestly didn't change a whole lot aside from bug fixes, client performance, etc..... The graphics, the content, the gameplay all were there and while they may have improved over a few months, the overall feel didn't.  It was very much the same game.

In the case of WAR, if you're looking for engaging PvE, you'll be dissappointed.  Its very cut and dry except for the Public Quest system which is definately a feature that more MMOs should make use of.  Dungeons aren't really that amazing.  Quests are typical, standard stuff.  It definately feels like,"We need quests here and there for players to level quickly and to move them from place to place".  So if, you are looking for something to have the depth of EQ2, LotRO, Vanguard, FFXI, and even DAoC, prepared to be let down.  Even WoW has a better PvE feel.

If you're looking for the pvp/fvf/rvr game that WoW should've had from the get go, you'll be plenty pleased.  It has the instanced battlefields which are fun.  It has the open, siege based RvR and a few small areas where PvE and RvR overlap for some competitive public-quest fun.  If RvR/PvP is what you're all about, you'll probably be pleased.  However, in beta, it was really hard to grasp what open-rvr while actually feel.  Battles often degraded to zerg against zerg.  Hopefully, this won't be the case with full, active servers.

No complaints about the graphics.  I thought the artists have done a great job for the most part.  No game is perfect in this arena.  Some animations are sub-par, some textures are blah, but for the most part, it is very appealing to the eye.

Overall, Mythic has done well.  It will definately have its audience.  However, with the lackluster pve, I'm afraid its just not the game for me and many of my friends(which is fine, we are still enjoying AoC and DAoC).   We're still going to try the game at release to see how RvR plays out, but if its anything like beta has been, we definately won't be staying long.

I agree the whole its still in beta thing is flawed as release is coming now.

You have to admit its flaws and not hype it or the game will look far worse than it is.

Already we see that the game is not quite as good as the hype thats already been thrown out.

I would back off the beta thing and start posting about how to fix the flaws it does have now instead of trying to defend it through release your community will be better off in the long run.

Just a quick jump in here and then I will keep quiet.

Isn't release next month?  If so, then they shouldn't be having these kind of bugs in the game this close to release.

Yes this is exactly what I am trying to say.

They have a couple weeks at best to get some things done.

The game will be shipping soon.

They also took out content just like other MMO's have done and promised later.

Really you guys need to be realistic about this game and not hype it too much or you'll set your selves up for a big fall after the first month or two.

I know this wont happen though as some people will always be rabid fans of any game ;)

Anyhow Good Luck hope they dont bash your game to hard.

Warhammer is awesome, I played it for about 14 hours yesterday and its the best MMO I have seen since WOW.

THANK YOU MYTHIC

Ok WAR fanboy :)

You will be facing the same thing as AoC get used to it.

Hopefully they patch your game up and people stay longer than all the other MMO's that have released over the last couple of years.

I dont see that happening, but at least you can hope right??

Its kind of funny to watch this stuff ;)

Every release you have people who say something about the games flaws and the rabid fan bois try and come to the rescue.

Beleive me is WAR has flaws it wont be long before everyone knows.

Please dont expect everyone to post lovey dovey WAR is perfect posts.

You fans of WAR are going to go through what every other MMO released recently has gone through.

Personally I will give you some advice  dont even post in threads that you dont agree with.

you only bump them and they last longer exposing things about the game you dont like to hear.

Anyhow good luck they got a short time to patch print and release I hope they can get it up to speed for you guys and at least you will have a descent launch and retain some people after the flames die down.

nice review of those types of classes and combat!!

Of course.

Let me ask you, as far as "not bringing anything new"...would you rather have a revolutionary, crappy, incompelete game or a stable, not quite as revolutionary but still very fun game?

I'm sick of people who just care about having something new and then slamming the company that tries it if they fail. You asked for it, so why don't you play it? How about AoC's revolutionary combat?

  • Tabula Rasa was something new with their combat.  Failed.
  • Age of Conan's combat was new for the genre. Failed.
  • Auto Assault was something new. Failed.
  • Pirates of the Burning Sea was innovative too. Failed.

Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

This day and age I think most MMO's are going to have a hard time.

I have yet to see a game come out in the last 4 years that actually pleased everyone :D

So I guess it comes down to what you like and sticking with the game through thick and thin.

Otherwise wed all be playing WoW forever ;)
