From the screenshots and descriptions it looks and sounds promising. If you can deliver a true sandbox experience that no one else has been able to do and actually stick to it through all of the tough parts then I think you will find players dying to get into your game.

Not the best of its' generation in my opinion but to each there own. Mass Effect is a great series with a solid story line and some really nice RPG elements of course, just not my kind of game I guess.

Nope, havent gotten mine either.

I don't think so.

Vanguard had real issues.

Invisible or partly invisible opponents, missing textures, huge problems when crossing one area to another by "chunking", crashes, etc.

ArcheAge is probably pushing the limits of population to get it ready for launch and sure, it might be having issues with the hackshield but it doesn't have the same problems that Vanguard had.

I was going to say just on a bug/crash aspect alone they arent even on the same playing field. I played AA alpha for a month and a half and its no where near as buggy as Vanguard was at launch, let alone Vanguard had the problem that many computers at that time had huge difficulty running it.

In it's current state I believe the character customization is pretty vile, so little options and everyone ends up literally looking identical.

Can't change character size, voice, muscles etc and lacks so many hair options.

Is it still going to be in it's current state when WoD releases?

This isn't going to change. It's not an issue for WoW so they won't mess with anything like this.

Since i wrote this I have spent about 5 hours queued for Frontlines. Your experience may be different than mine but I have only got 1 queue to pop and the match to actually start.

The match making needs help.

Odd it takes me about 15 minutes for Frontlines queues.

Instancing and locking out other players away from the masses in general. I figured with advanced technology would allow even bigger and more immersive world but have found the opposite to be true.
Another thing is dungeon and group finders make meetings so pointless to the point where it feels like the equivalent of talking with a telemarketer on the phone.
And finally, the community is now full of elitests, children (or people who like to act like them) and assholes in general which makes me actually not want to socialize with people which I guess is why dungeon/group finders exist.

Look at what fuckign AA has done to the gaming industry....fucking foun ders packs costing upwards of 50+ dollers JUST to test/play a f2p game where it shoudl be freaking free to test and find bugs for them.....ive given up on the gaming industry....my BIGGESt beef is that this is a fucking APP not even a actual game and there charging a arm n leg for it....i swear this has to be the most expensive app for the app store....fuck sakes that 2 mmo's i was waiting for to try out gone down the drain

Did you just start playing MMOs? AA is not the first even close to do this. This is a long running trend that started with preordering on console games...

Just wait for the release date? I don't see the issue

I love that in FFXIV that crafting is a class of its own, literally. You level a separate class with different tools and armor. The sort of minigame that you do while creating really makes you think and on my 50 Bard I am still using some Augmented crafted gear which isn't the best gear but is good enough to do anything from T5 and all of the EX Primals. Fantastic game and I would have been shocked if the crafting didnt make this list as it is one of the largest appeals to most everyone who plays! And house decorating is a blast!

I believe it is level 30 with there being lvl 30, 40, and 50 pvp. I'm not sure on the trial since im subbed and havent looked into it.
So to answer your question I don't think so but I havent heavily pvped yet so i may not be the most reliable source :P.

should still check out the game!

While I have my own personal gripes about the game all of yours seemed pretty null and inaccurate.
I won't argue that the game went downhill after the 1.2 patch but I personally think the crafting is well done, and resources being rare to gather is a good thing.
And your complaint about things taking time to grow? Are you kidding? Of course it takes time to grow dude, if not the market would be insanely flooded with EVERYTHING.

idk, I don't really enjoy AA anymore but a large majority or your points are just childish.

Tab targeting and CD combat has never bothered me, and idk why it is like a prime issue for people playing MMOs lately. GW2 and others similar are glorified TAB targeting games without actually using tab.

I don't play AA anymore because of the 1.2 patch nonsense but the combat has never been as issue to me. It is MMO combat plain and simple and most people know/understand that before installing the game. It isn't any worse or better than any other tab targeting combat so I find it surprising that everyone else finds it surprising...

The quests in FFXIV are really good in my opinion, and one of the only games that I enjoy reading the quests in. That and a handful of quest lines in WoW.
I voted 3 on it for that reason. Most quests are poorly written and are about nothing that pertains to the actual story of the game.

That's a good point, I totally forget about digital battle chest. Wouldn't hurt to shop around a bit though you might found some really good deal on any game you are looking to buy!

So WoW would be about $100 to start and the about $15 a month after that plus expansions? How often do expansions come out? I wouldn't be able to put hours a day into it so is it still worth playing if only 10 hours a week or less? Maybe more every once in a while.

You don't have to buy the expansions as they come out if you are not leveled up to work on that content yet.

The game has been out almost 13 years and has a total of 4 expansions with a 5th one coming up at the end of this year.

Also it is not $100, Starter+Burning Crusades+Wrath of the Lich King+ Cataclysm+ Mists of Pandaria comes out to $52.01 before taxes/shipping. Even though you are buying the discs you just have to activate them to your account and can download it online. Also the first 30 days are free if you have a new account.

You can enjoy the game if you play on average 10-15 hours of week. This is why I suggest WoW as it is very friendly to casual players such as yourself.

Edit: Actually found a way to get it down to almost $40 before tax/shipping on amazon! Not a bad price really. But yeah GW2 is also a great MMO as others are saying and I can't say much bad about it other than its just not my style.

Hey nice to see a fresh face around!

As with others I would recommend WoW as your first MMO.
This will help you get down the basics that most MMORPGs contain as well as it will perform much better on a laptop than most of these newer MMOs that people are suggesting to you.

WoW has a subscription of $14.99 a month (first you have to buy the actual game which you can download off of their website after you purchase it) and has a ton of content with a lot of back story and a huge open world.

I don't play WoW right now, and it wasn't my first MMO but if I had a friend that wanted to play an MMO I would send them to a role playing pve server because the community is usually a lot better there.

Also, Rift and Lord of the Rings Online might both be good options even though I don't play either.
They are both free to play with very little pay to win.

Good luck and don't let bad attitude players get you down! There are some really good quality people around.

Edit: Also World of Warcraft is free up to level 20 so you can at least give it a shot which I do highly suggest. If you end up deciding you like it you can buy the starter pack pretty cheap these days.

So, I've been checking out the game during this free log-in week-end. I do not own any character (bought the game pre-relaunch) so I've started fresh. Things I loved:

- the graphics are great (for what I like)

- I actually like the slowish tab target combat

- I like some of the systems such as the multi-class, hunts, duties, leves, the armor bags and many more

However, there are some things that I did not like:

- the map system seems complicated (at least in Limsa Lominsa)

- the constant running around talking to 15 people just to finish a quest

- the fact that every npc which you talk to has about 6-7 paragraphs of text which you have to click-click-click through (at some point I got bored of reading everything)

I'm currently level 16 in my first job (arcanist). My question for the people which spent more time in the game is, does it get better as I level up (or at the endgame) or it's gonna be still hours of running around with a few minutes of actually doing something? Help me decide if it's worth a sub for me or not, thank you :)

First off I'll say that the map gets way better and less confusing the further you progress (as most things in games tend to do).
Second, I wouldn't say FFXIV is a game you skip the quest dialogue if its for the main quest story.
The main reason I love this game is that the story is fantastic and is on par with many of the single player FF games.
To answer your question, no.
The quests pretty much stay the same with a lot of text and then doing some action.

I think the way to get around questing if that isn't your thing (though I highly suggest you finish your main story through 50 regardless if you read it or not) is to do fates and leves as well as your hunting log.

The quests are mostly for story and lore so there is a ton of reading and if thats not your thing it may not be the game for you?
I will say though that Primal fights, as well as Crystal Tower, and Coil of Bahamut are insanely fun and my favorite PvE content in any game!
Also the new frontlines 24v24v24 PvP is awesome!

To each your own but this games huge focus is on story!

It's a niche game for a niche player base so of course not everyone will love or care about it. Also others have said since it is in its infancy stages there wont be insane amounts of hype yet (as with a lot of other MMOs).

As soon as you start seeing in depth gameplay you will see people starting to become drawn in and possibly even break the niche idea surrounding the PvP game.

Its been about a week since I finally decided to resub (here is my previous thread http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/446/view/forums/thread/417006/Just-Resubbed-last-night-Where-do-I-start.html) and I am just stunned at how much this game has grown since I played last year.  Usually games start to decay a couple of months after launch or the publisher starts to pull money from it after initial box sale, but this game has just gotten better and better. I am probably even more addicted to it now than last year. I've been playing nonstop for the past week and I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface. After trying out ESO and WS for a month each and quitting, I thought I was done with the MMO genre forever. I tried out FFXIV again because I had some spare time one day, didnt really have high expectations. WOW was I surprised. So much stuff to do. So much complexity to gameplay elements other than questing/raiding/pvp.  SO MANY PEOPLE!! And here i thought this game would be dead after a year, let alone my server lol.

So happy I found this game again. Goodbye social life.

I did the exact same thing, I resubbed last Sunday so I have been back a bit longer than a week. I just hit full il90 and finished my main story quests, and am now on my primal hunt with coil t5 to follow. The EX primals are hard but really fun (have yet to beat Titan EX unfortunately haha).
I am really excited to be back in the game and am amazed that my sever is absolutely packed with people and that my guild is still thriving.

And yet, almost a year after release, Final Fantasy XIV is still gaining subscribers and doesn't even have F2P as a blip on its radar.

P2P is still viable, despite what the F2P junkies will try to tell you.

This. The games just have to actually be good for one, and constantly update for two (WoW excluded from this apparently).
I don't like the F2P trend and I'm much more willing to P2P than P2W which almost every F2P game has now days.

As for ESO it will go F2P because overall the original fanboys have discovered its a bad MMO and an even worse Elder Scrolls game so they are quietly sweeping this one under the rug.
