Maybe you would have sounded smart if you could spell properly. Ganking just to gank is pointless and boring but if there is a reward for doing it then its good, or penality for you if you die etc.

There are plenty of other games  that will have your meaningless world pvp.

Wildstar for example.

PVP servers that have zero world pvp content at launch but instance pvp just like wow.

Yeah not everyone can handle real PVP I guess. :)

WoW is a bad example, PVE game where they just smacked on PVP + it is faction based and casual.

I dont mind this "Real pvp" My favorite MMO PVP is AC Darktide server and next would be shadowbane.

Theres no need for worldpvp if you dont lose anything when you die.

That we really agree on. It is silly with no penalities. I'm currently playing Darkfall, before that I played EVE and before L2. You lose something when you die in all of the games and not punishing players for playing bad is just stupid.

I'm reading alot about griefing.

Would it be fair to say that those that don't want more aspects of pvp in the game wouldnt be against it if there was a way to minimize griefing in the game?

The more tools you add to remove it the more you pull away from open world PvP and the more you alienate open world PvP fans. Same thing in the other direction, the more you make the PvE world a PvP park the more you alienate pure PvEers. So you have to pick what game you wana make. There is very little compromise or wiggle room. IMO I think ESO picked the best option with the DAoC PvP model. Pure PvEers get their space and no one can force them to PvP or wreck their immersion by killing their bankers a quest givers. On the other side PvPers get a giant map where they get to do what they enjoy. Wana kill quest givers, you can. Wana run a dungeon where at any min you can run into the other faction, you can. Really is the best of both worlds.

It is not open world pvp if there are factions with invisible magic rules making it so you can't attack your own faction. Pure pvpers dont want lame factions, that is for esport and other silly things. The gw2 (and daoc?) model is extremely boring, having a separate map or certain part for PVEers means its not open world at all.

Also you didn't respond to my previous post about factions: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/5743909#5743909

Then maybe I should point out... your on the wrong forum. This game is designed with 5-6 years behind them with 3 factions and a AvA map much like DAoC. By your avatar you know very well AA is the game for you. ESO would need to be reworked from the ground up to make it a open world PvP game everywhere. Heck even the AvA map would be useless as its designed now. Its designed for 3 factions to fight over it. So like I said, your on the wrong forum.

Sadly I'm starting to believe AA won't be the game for me either. To much punishment for being a pirate. :(

you are absolutely incorrect, open world pvp isn't exclusive to FFA pvp. having factions or not is irrelevant.

"open world pvp" just means that you can attack someone in the open world rather than only in certain designated areas, has nothing to do with the ruleset.

and i don't give a crap what "pure pvp'ers" want. if you were a pure pvper you wouldn't be playing rpg's, you would be playing FPS or even RTS.

this is coming from someone who also likes pvp but FFA isn't the be all end all of open world pvp, its just one type of open world pvp.

Well open world has to do with factions also imo. Otherwise it is just faction PVP in either designated or nondesignated areas. Actually I wasn't the one who used the term first, I just repeated it because I don't think there is such a thing as pure PVPer or w/e. And yes I do play competetively in FPS games and also playing Darkfall which features FPS type combat that doesn't mean I don't like RPGs though because as I said, I'm not looking for some fair battle or esport type gameplay when im in an MMORPG, stats and such should be there just like zerging and elite clans... It's all part of the 'war'.

I have to agree. PVP zones or arena have no place in a future MMO. It's part of the same old crap that is proven ineffective to the pvp community.

The DAoC model used in ESO for PvP is one well loved and reminisced by many hard core PvP fan. Myself included. They could not have picked a better PvP model IMO. Open world PvP everywhere mostly leads to two things. Players picking on low level chars and camping quest hubs. Or PvP groups spread out so thin you dont get much PvP action. All PvP focused on one big map means more large scale battles and removes the griefers.

Define "hardcore" because I do not think what you call hardcore is actually hardcore but rather normal PVP. Designated PVP spots is just esport crap.

People who play MMOs to live, eat and breath PvP, like me. If a MMO does not have a great PvP system in play its a stop over at best till something comes out that does. In my 14 years of MMOing, no one has done PvP better then DAoC. PvP thats set up for more then a leader board. PvP that has a deep impact and meaning to your faction. Thats the hard core PvPer I am talking about!!!!

Well wasn't Daoc a faction game?... 2-3 factions doesn't really make for good pvp. PVP is more than about just having good combat, it is the political, economical parts as well and as I said, having predetermined factions is imo lame and takes away making it themeparky. An example I have of what I think is great PVP is L2, you made your own clans, formed alliances and had battles with 500vs500 or such. Everything done on the players end, no premade factions and just pure carnage to get the worldbosses and castles. Sadly the combat was at times a bit boring but the scale and teamplay was great.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ07qYDvuBA this is a fight for a worldboss on the russian server cadmus.

When a new game is anounced you are getting hyped and you hope that you will finally play an mmo like in the old days of daoc etc.

Just accept it and move forward. There is not going to be an mmo that will become the next big thing simply because the genre is dead.

Moreover the pc gaming is already dead.

Dont hope for anything and move on with your lives.

What you hope for is just a river of illussions that is not going to stop till you decide to build a barrier.

Mark my words have a nice night.

PC gaming is dead? Roflmao.

Do you live in 2005 or something?

Wow how the fuck can you list GW2 over EVE? A game that has been getting free expansions for the last 10 years! A userbase that has been growing since day one. EVE number 1 and I dont even play that game anymore. Either MMORPG is getting paid to put GW2 there or bill is a fanboy of GW2, either way it's shit.

If it's an MMO that I'm going to play for more than 2 hours a day tab-targetting for sure. Action combat is sort of annoying after a while (at least to me).

Depends on if its a grind game or not and how the same it is, I mean you could play a FPS for hours so why not a MMO as long as it is interesting? :p

Actually Tera is action combat.
Game ran good for me yestarday. First time DF player, downloaded with torrent, installed, patched and got in 30min after starting the download. Ran around the world and explored with another player for hours with (almost) no crashes.
Downloaded client in less than an hour and been seeding at 6mb/s for the last hour. Torrent works good.

Yet I find it funny how I said this will be just another bland MMO, people bashed and hated on me just like when I said the same about GW2 and in just a short while they all go hyping the next game like it was the second coming of jesus or some shit. Hypetrain CHOO CHOO!

I find it more of a reason to "hate" on you because you're acting like predicting that people will jump on the next hype train is some kind of superpower, when I see it more as an inevitability.  Seriously, whatever your feelings about a game, everyone knows this already.

PS: Because you said a game was bland doesn't mean it was.  I know, I know.  Shocking how reality works.

Truth is people fall for the same crap that should be obvious by now one could think, it is sad and probably why the industry isn't changing. If people didn't pump money into bad games, clones, pushed productions we would most likely have a healthier market now. Can't say this game is going to be bad yet I guess, it's still too early but it's not a game I am going to play judging from what I've read and seen. GW2 was fun a while but got old fast with no interesting PVP going on and no good updates.

PS. Not gonna bite on your attempt to get me banned. ;)

What you think is crap, is what others enjoy.  You need to recognize that others like things you do not.

Well if the majority of people are tricked into something is great and awesome then let down by the product it is not a good product, just good marketing. As a gamedev I constantly have to recognize what others enjoy that I might not especially since my enjoyment is pretty niche (apparantly), for example I really dislike WoW but I recognize it as a good product since it holds a lot of peopls interest although I would never try to make a contentheavy game like that. ^^

Thanks for both replies, especially yours slapshot. Right now it's standing between this game or going back to EVE. How much time is required to do okay in this game? Would one have to nolife or is it okay to have a few hours every day / night to login with friends, slaughter some people, steal their shit and then logout?

So me and two friends of mine are considering getting DFUW as we are MMOplayers who prefer open world combat and all that. So... do you think the game will be worth getting? Are there any overpowered classes? I was reading how you pick a primary and a secondary class, I am guessing going skirm (guessing this is a more mobile class) and primalist (healer?) would be okay if you wish to kite? Also I read on the forum that some big patch went in yestarday or so, what was the changes or where can I read about them? Also can we survive with 2-3 player group at start or should we try to find a clan asap?

Any reading tips or information (even opinions on the state of the game (gasp)) is appreciated. :)

Quite tired of that guy. :/
After having played Tera I really have to say I prefer action combat over tab target (even though Tera could have been better still). I think there is space for both types but well done action combat is amazing.
