It's just a horrible, terrible mismanagement of priorities.

Devs should work on the progress of their game in this order.

1. Functionality/Performance Issues
2. Bugs/Exploits/Duping
3. Quest polishing; fix rewards, adjust difficulty, etc etc
4. LASTLY, Balance.

You don't swing the nerf bat before the ball even starts rolling, Sigil.

1. Agree and i believe they are working on this as hard as they can. Not everyone in their employment have the knowledge to work on this particular problem.

2. Agree, but a sever imbalance in class power i would consider an exploit. The longer they take to get it at least reasonably balanced the more "unfair" it gets.

3. Agree

4. Agree, but they need to have it kind of close to start with...
I would say that all the kojani starters, orc/goblin, kojani human/Half Elf, Wood Elf/Raki are the ones with the highest degree of an artistic wow factor. Quest lines are also well thought out and imo flow very smooth...

Personally... I would have been very happy if they'd just gone with undivided...

High server capacity is around 3000.

A lot more than 50k boxes have been sold, I can tell you that much.
The game has at least 150,000 subscribers. I'd venture more around 180k-200k

As of 7am yesterday according to the Vanguards Player database

219690 charqacters between 1 and 50

71308 were level 1 characters probably name holders

/agree

54968 level 2 to level 5 alts and more name holders for the most part I think

A portion of theses are also new players and those focusing on diplomacy and crafting right away but ya /agree

58784 level 6 to level 10

Small procentage alts, most probably mains 80/20 i would say

34700 level 11 to level 50

Most certainly almost all mains 95/5 perhaps

1 buddy key in every box and 10 in every collectors edition box

I would speculate that if you are playing on a buddy key and have made it to lvl 10 or more you are probably going to get the game. I could be wrong but its IMHO..

Most people have more than 1 character, how many do you have? Males tend to make anywhere between 4.11 to 5.32 characters, Females 4.29 to 4.79 characters. I am still having problems making that .32 character myself

edit those stats came from  http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/000551.php

these numbers will change around 7:00 am to 7:30 am EST each day.  I was a long term player of EQII and that is when its players were updated at least. They will grow as more make additional characters.

More people will still buy the game for the next couple of months off the shelves and off the net. Those who live way out in the boonies may just be getting their boxes.  However the first three to four days is the largest growth  and at the end of the free thirty some will cancel. Due to the long open beta I doubt Vanguard will see a drastic drop at that point though. People playing now, as you pointed out really like the game and there is nothing wrong with that, no need to spin it though. Let the game stand on it's own. You can be a fan without being a fan boy.

I think the estimate of 50k might be about right, i would say it's a bit higher between 70-80k... If the numbers from SoE that you've provided are accurate.

I don't post much about it but i do want VG to do well. If VG does not generate a big enough customer base, then it would be safe to assume that the quality and content of future expantions / patches will suffer due to financial issues. And as a person who enjoys VG, that is something i want to avoid :)
The range of /rope is 10m so it rly is only good for getting people unstuck. the exploit potential is not that high. Also no you can not /rope someone against their will. there's a pop up box that requires them to accept before being moved....
I dont know if its an option to you but you can always just get the digital online version from station.com.
We had teleporters for most part of beta due to the boats not working properly. They are not gonna be in live though so you will have to take the boat... they are like this

khal --- teleport gate --- wood elf city --- teleport gate ---new targonar
                                                     |
                                               Martok

the gates are only there to shorten the NPC boat trip you are free to ignore em with your own boat when you get em... Boats leave the docks about every 15min and the trip takes about another 15min so the time to go to NT from Khal is about 30-45min depending on how lucky you are with timing the departures...
There are solo quests to be found after lvl 10 for sure... i actually did lvl 23 and 24 solo in Hathor Zhi and Infineum Sanctuary. And this was  few months ago so im sure they've added more since then. There might not be an inf. amount to choose from but if you look around and  explore all the chunks your lvl range i dont think you will have a problem...
Some small errors in the article i think... VG uses unreal 2.5 and no way it's going to take 1200h (300days playing 4h a day) to get to 50, thats just bs.
Its been a while since i used it and i can't even say that its still in game (Cause i just don't know). The way it worked when i used it was, if you have a grp of friends you have one invite them all to a caravan (6ppl limit, same as grp and fellowship) The one who is now leader can head of and travel to anyplace in the world and bind at a bind stone while the rest can be afk. When the other members of the caravan logs in again they will get a choice of spawning at their last location or at the caravan bindstone. I think they put a time limit on how long before you can make that choice 40min i think either logged out or in game im not sure...
have you tried different graphic drivers? Also i bet /flush would suffice instead of minimizing...

My first post on MMO.com but i have been following this site for many years, now about VG.  This has to be the worst beta test i have ever played, 6 gig of useless game IMO.  A few good points, crafitng was a blast.  And the crafitng quests were even better.  Also this games looks slightly more fun at high levels.  One more thing is the combat, while the majority of fighting is dull and mindnumbing, randomly moves will become unlocked and allow you to do "epic" damage and skill/spell combos.  However, you can NOT solo anything past level 10-12 ish.  PvP is very one sided, if you are X class you win hands down.  There is tons of running/walking, if your like me and die often, you had best be ready for 45-60 min of gameplay just to catchup.  While i do enjoy a good death punishment this game goes too far.

To make a long story short, the community (on the PvP server anyway) sucks, something is very wrong witht he graphics, lag, annoying quests and towns, lots of running, boring combat, over all a lame game.  My two cents, thanks.

My beta backround:  Lineage 2, Matrix Online, World of Warcraft, Archlord, Rising Force Online, Guild Wars, Final Fantasy Online, Runescape, And a few other smaller games i dont remember.

Um no you can still solo at higher lelvels... in fact i did lvl 22-24 a while back solo with my sorcerer. I had quests to do and plenty of mobs to kill all the time.

Your complaining about the death penalty? If you actually spend the time and retrieve your corpse you hardly loose any xp at all, around 1%... Also if you "die alot" sure its gonna sting... thats why its there to make you play smart and NOT DIE.

About the community all i can say is i have had no problem. I'm not a PVPer though and the experience differs from player to player. I would think the beta community and live community would be vastly different though. As people spend more time and relationships form you will see a better community. It hard to get that to happen on beta... A month ago we only had 1000 on at prime time and now we have 10K what community can form in such a short time?

Actually its 4 hair choices atm with promise of more close after release.

As to the rest of your post you make some good points. VG is very much laking in polish and is chock-full of bugs but to me it still feels like a vibrant world where I at least want to spend some time in the future....

1. Yes. Ill be surprised if it didn't sell at least 200k within a few months

2. Yes almost certainly

3. If nothing unforeseen happens and the company either goes belly up or one of the other MMORPGS steals its player base then you i predict that the community will be a strong one. There is no need for a huge amount of players to form a tight knit community... It might even be a hinderance...

6.6 gigs... not too bad at least.... Installed its 17gigs though.
The funny things is you have to download the whole 17gigs with Vanguard client, I have cable high speed extreme and it took me near 15 hours to patch everything.

I dunno... when i downloaded the client through the launchpad at the beginning of beta three i only had to leave it on over the knight and I'm only on a 2mbit line. This could have changed now though but to my understanding it downloads decompressed files and decompresses them on the fly... If anyone has anything to prove/disprove this let us know...

Well i still think bretonians vs. Tomb Kings could work. I thought about Araby or Tilea but they have to little of an impact on the Warhammer universe. With no playable armies around... well except Dogs of War. And if my mind isn't playing tricks on me i though Bretonians have one of the worlds largest fleets. So could if they wanted to transport enough men to fight in the undead land. then again as some one mentioned Vampire Counts may be a more logical choce... Didn't they take over one of the Bretonian cities? At least there was one in Dark Omen :D

Wood Elves and beastmen would be just cool... War Dancers anyone

but i agree with Lizardmen / Scaven probably being the choice for the first expantion... They are after all the most different races from the ones we currently have...

I've acctualy been thinking about this now and then and i belive that the best way to make an MMO based in the 40k univers would be to just focus on the Imperium. Fluff wise having space marines as a playable class would be though. But you can have loads of fun with inquisitiors, Tech Priests, Rough Traders, Terran Priests (Forgot the name) and possilby Bounty Hunters and Mutants... There are enough differences of opinion between those factions to suport PVP to a degree and also enough interesting fluff for use of gear etc... Power armour, power fists/weapons, force shields, various ailen artefacts, deamon weapons, crasy ass nural integrated self targeting weapons etc...

I've been thinking about races missing and what possilbe parings we might get in future expantions. So far the only ones ive come up with that make sense location wise are...

Bretonians - Kemri

Wood Elves - Beastmen

Lizardmen - Skaven

Have there been any official news about this?
