Myself, i have been hanging on with SWG. Tried most of the trials out there and nothing really grabs me. I am waiting for PotBS to come out in January. only thing that has perked my interest in a long while. If that fails me.. no games for me till Spore I guess.

Dosn't seem dead to me../shrug

A few friends and I tried to make an mmo about a year ago. I think one major point you need to get across is do you want to make this game for fun or to make money? Some people only will work on a project like this if they get paid. Or their main motivation is to get paid at some point.

We got as far as  a storyline and some drawings on potential UI setups. My point is the people involved have to be on the same page.

And yes the type of MMO is also important.

I am very happy about this. To me this grants them ton of stability on their end. Keeps them focused on development and not spending more money on staff to handle billing and so on.

Can't wait for this game to get station pass access.

Spore

Been playing since pre-pub 9. I can honestly say this might be the most fun I have had playing this game. The BM system has very deep amount of gameplay . Something I think will keep my interest for many months.

I can not speak about the new quest line, rebel theme park and housing purge minigames, for I have been spending every moment, crafting components for BM, gathering enzymes/DNA, and crafting pets.

This game has made me realize why I enjoyed it in the first place. The depth. BM has more depth to it than any other character type than in any other game I have played.
I have never been a guild leader but I am a mayor of a player city on SWG and have been for about 3 years. Our city is basicly a guild city being that 90% of our population is members of our guild.  I understand the amount of work it takes to keep people interested but not overwhelming them either.

The main thing is that you have to ask yourself what type of guild do I want?

For me it was simple.. a guild that liked to have fun, was helpful and was respectful to not only other members but to all players as well.

We have gone through about 3 guild leaders (each remained with the guild just passed on the torch) and each time I have been pretty much the #2 guy. Taking on civic duties and guild duties is quite a bit of stuff to be responsible for. It got to the point for me where I created another account just so I could escape and play for a while without a tell every 2 minutes.

Over time things got easier. The leaders appointed senate  members. Witch helped distribute the responsibilities. Having a core group of players who you trust and share the same vision is important .

What I would like to see is better communication venues for guild members.  I did like the way EVE had setup their communication systems. Multiple windows and multiple groups and being able to view them all.

Communication  is a guild leaders best friend and and feature that helps that is always a plus.
I guess I am like most here.  I have enjoyed games more with skill systems over those classes greatly.

Mosty because  the character is more my own. I like to feel like I am doing something unique and not another cookie cutter clone. When I play a mmo I want to feel like this is my own person, I am taking this person through a journey. I want him/her to look and act as an individual. The game that gives me the most options normally keeps my attention for longer and sucks me in.
To me a MMO based of the Rifts storyline could be amazing. The stories are there. The factions and species are all there.  All the major content is already developed. I know that Fallen Earth is kind of in the same story arc but dose not seem to be as broad and as in depth as the paper pencil dice game  like Rifts.

Basicly I was wondering if there have ever been plans to develope a Rifts style MMO and if others would be interested in playing a game like that.? For me if done right it could be amazing.
I just wanted to say thank you Mr. Freeman for taking your time to post here. Your posts have in some areas cleared things up quite a bit, though in others may have clouded a little.  I just hope that nobody has to go through all the crap no matter what side of the fence you were on that came with the NGE ever again. I think all involved have learned alot.

I do have a question though... although I do not know if you can answer it.

I have seen in a few of your posts that you  refer to a Creative Director or lack there of. Now I have a few thoughts on this.

Was Raph  made an exec. to move him from the project? In order to move the game in a different direction?

To me it dose not make a whole lot of sense to promote such a key position without having anyone in mind to replace them. My guess that that is your point. If so I would have to agree.

So my question is as far as you know SWG still dose not have it's own CD? In one of your posts you stated:

Cao has been the Studio Creative Director the whole time he's been there, dual-wielding as SWG's CD 'cause it needed one.

So we are talking years without a real CD?

After Raph left for San Diego I get the impression that development of practicly anything was kind of a free for all. Wether working on say rangers or a new quest. Due to lack of "vision"?

There are hundreds more questions i could ask..so if you are ever in phoenix hit me up I'll buy you a few beers :P
