AoC has/had many faults, but the soundtrack was not one of them. I haven't played the game since my free month ended, but I still listen to the music here and there and I am glad that Knut Avenstroup Haugen got the award for the great work he did. Congratulations!

Good article, I have enjoyed reading it.

The article has left me with a feeling of being bombarded by facts, while all of the written material was correct (and in my opinion a big step forward from the tanking article previously posted by this correspondent), it was like getting an encyclopedia thrown at one. I wish there was a little more easy reading (say examples, stories, etc) to soften the hard fact package. As it stands I do not find the article more informative then reading the in game descriptions of skills and items.

... Did I mention that I find it _much_ better then the tanking article? :P

Well done, and thanks for a good read. :)

And yes, there is always something going on in EVE and if you know where to look (and dare to take action) there is lots of fun to be had.

It would be nice to socialize, but it is nothing game breaking for me. As someone pointed out already, if you do not find EVE interesting this far, ambulation will not make you change your mind. Although it may be easier for newcomers from other games to get accustomed to the universe with an actual avatar to look at/bond to.

Of course much depends on the implementation of said 'walking in stations' and the mini games associated with it. Quietly I am hoping that this is the first step of landing on planets scheme as it is something I always wanted to do in EVE.

I did some math and googling and 100,000 DKK = about 726 billion ISK. What on earth would you spend all that on (buy minmatar space? Collect every exotic dancer in the game?) The amount involved (both rl and in game) is mind boggling.

Also expecting all that ISK to go into your wallet unnoticed is also a bit... naive.

1) Skip the original article.
2) Read theArcangel's post.
3) Profit!

I have to agree, WAR graphics were a bit of a turn off (even after setting everything on high, forcing antialiasing etc). While I can understand the need for simple graphics for huge open battles, I see no reason for the absolutely terrible animations, which in all honesty bugged me the most about WAR (graphic wise).

No, I will not re subscribe to the game in it's current state, or even after 1.1. However I am following Mythic's attempts to fix the game and may re subscribe should they manage to fix the issues before the plug is pulled on the whole project.

rofl, do you have any idea how far away this game's experience is from a tabletop experience? Apart from the fact that the characters look the same it's nowhere *near* similar.

Do you have any idea how far away the taste of apples is from the taste of oranges? Apart from the fact that they both are round, they are nowhere *near* similar.

You know that the game has problems when, when a patch is released people _immediately_ start looking forward and discussing the next patch, which is exactly what seems to have happened here. As someone has said here already you cannot fix WAR without redesigning the core elements of it, so I am willing to bet that as soon as 1.1 hits the servers, we all be discussing the new awesome 1.11 patch. :P

I got that mail too, I have tried to take the poll, but the poll server (frenchtelecom.com or some such) was incredibly slow, so I gave up after the second question, since it took over 1 minute in between clicking 'next' and the next page appearing... and I have 20Mbit connection.

An incident like that only confirms that leaving WAR and it's GOA hell was the right thing to do.

1) The art (sounds, music and graphics)
2) It is Hyboria!
3) Mammoth and rhino mounts!
4) The fact that I am no longer paying for it
5) The fact that Gaute is no longer in charge!

No, I will not be re subscribing. I have gotten to 34 during my free month and never continued my subscription. I am still following the game, reading patch notes and forums and so far Mythic totally failed to entice me into giving it another go. Unlike AoC I do not consider myself burned by the game (and it's devs) so I am open about trying it again down the road, the recent patch just did not do it for me.

Apparently using a Quad Core is not going to increase any games performance unless it is optimized (the game) to use all 4 cores... most games still only use one core out of the four. So if you have a quad core that runs at 2.5Ghz its like using a single core at 2.5Ghz... That's what I heard anyway.

That is true to some extend: if the game is not specially designed to use multiple cores, it will not use them. However, even if said application only uses the one core, other applications and actions will be re-routed to other cores by the operating system resulting in better performance.

I have a high end machine (Quad Core, 8Gb ram, gf9800GX2) and the performance I got out of WAR (back when I was playing) was ridiculous, even after days of tweaking graphic settings, installing addons etc. While some people in my guild with lower grade hardware were running it flawlessly.

If you have trouble check the game forums (HA!), I mean warhammeralliance.com there were plenty of optimization threads there, you may find some good advice there.

You are absolutely right, my bad. Thanks.

@OP:
Boring? Hardly. Overwhelming perhaps. I think that that if you expect a button mashing, reflex based, instant gratification game you will be disappointed with EVE. If you on the other hand have some patience to learn how things work, have the brains to see how incredibly complex and diverse the game is, and if you can get over your first initial losses when you realize how brutal EVE universe can be you are set for an experience that will change your views on how MMOs should be. :)

I am a fairly new EVE player, I have never bought or sold GTCs, but I like the idea of them being in the game:
For one, and I am surprised no one has mentioned it yet, they are an awesome way of taking ISK out of the game economy which helps preventing inflation.
Second: time is very important in EVE - especially now that ghost training has been removed: if you for some reason cannot pay for your next month of game time, you are loosing skill training time (which is a permanent loss as it is impossible to make up for it), so giving people an option to pay with in game currency for more playing time is great.

To sum it up, I see no problem with trading ISK for gaming time, or vice versa, if you do it the CCP way you know you are making a safe transaction, and you are not destroying the game... Plus if you are real good at making in game money you can actually play for free, how perfect is that?

You get pigments for dyes from critical successes in cultivating... They do not happen that often, so I bet there will be a nice market for them.

As for gold being easy to get, yes it is, you are not starved for money at early levels and you can get by on what you get from quests and mobs you loot along the way, I guess money grinding is not meant to be the a time sink in WAR. On my server there is a healthy AH, not too much stuff at this point yet, but there are some nice blues and even a few epics. I am sure that prices will inflate over the time, and you will be spending lots of money (more then people are used to from other games) on talismans, dyes and pots.

Shamans called Yoda and Loldigocks and a bright wizard called Mrburns are the ones that made me chuckle. I am sure I will encounter more in upcoming weeks.
