Since you say you only want this new P2P for a few months until some other game comes out, how about you just don't play a game? Love your wife, go to school, go outside and play with friends, play baseball, clean the yard with your dad, work some overtime so you can buy tires before winter, whatever you do according to your age. But seriously, why do you feel you need to play some game until some other game comes out? Live life. |

General: Five Reasons to Be Concerned about LotRO F2P
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/25/10 12:30:59 PM
Hmm, maybe since LOTRO is only a PvE game except Monster Play, the community won't be so downgraded by the standard F2P crowd. Almost all F2P games are either PvP based or have PvP available with their PvE content. Monster Play is only available to normal characters after level 40 or so. All Monsters are max level in the Ettenmoors.
No PvP in the main game world will hopefully keep the normal F2P crowd far away from LOTRO. |

Wow, such a response to my initial (first) post in this topic. I, of course, understand the aspect of marketing that is the word "free" in F2P. I even said how you literally can play for free but you will become a slave to the game in order to gain enough in-game coin to buy cash shop currency from other players. The main point was that "free-to-play" is actually "pay-to-play" stressing the word PLAY. Just to login isn't playing. heh Great replies from everyone, even the ones replying as if I were an imbecile and can't understand standard marketing ploys. I salute you all for thinking for yourselves. Heck, I figured if I posted something worth discussing, this "article" by Aihoshi wouldn't be so ignored. It is the 'Free Zone' so I kept the comments about F2P. Yo Aihoshi, I didn't go to E3 or have to file any reports about E3 either. So what? |

I never understood the lie that is the name "free-to-play" as it is not free. You will have to spend real money on normal in-game items like more inventory space and mounts. Sure, you can download and install and create a character for no cost at all, but to actually PLAY is not free, not for more than a week. I prefer the name "subless" aka subscription-less.
Calling games "free-to-play" and saying they are "100% free to play" is trickery. It's just a free trial, in essence. They are, in fact, subscription-less games. Think about it, what cash shop offers items for free? You can usually grind for months to maybe earn enough in-game coin to buy cash shop currency, but the "free-to-play" games you are writing about and are advertised all over this website are all Asian grinders. How about some fun, some worthy content, some good monster AI, and some reason to play the game, instead of being forced to enslave and prostitute yourself to the game to get ahead "for free?"
Just something to think about, Mr. Aihoshi. Good articles, though. |

Lord of the Rings Online: Free to Play Beta Begins; New Screenshots of LOTRO Store
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/17/10 11:14:55 AM
I played LOTRO a year or so ago, stopped at lvl 43 hunter, even pre-ordered Moria. But I stopped playing for some reason. Great game, great community. I'll probably start a new account for to try it out on the F2P aspect. Perhaps monster play being paid content will really just kill the Ettenmoors. It was never that crowded anyway. Monster play was indeed fun, but making that part paid content may seriously just kill it totally. If it's dead, Turbine can remove the PvP option and the Ettenmoors altogether, never have to update that content, and just focus on releasing free book updates and paid expansions. We shall see. |

Originally posted by Trogdorn I love this example. What you said, Trogdorn, proves the addiction that is gaming, and you have basically stated that the current MMO drug isn't strong enough anymore. Time to move on to heroin... oops, I meant a better game (a stronger drug.) WoW is a gateway drug. :P |

Wow, what a joke of an article. By the way, B. F. Skinner developed a human psychology profile, not video games. lol If we do as the article says, then we should all never ever come to this or any gaming site ever again. So, this article is designed to destroy the MMORPG.com advertising revenue? Interesting concept. |

Yeah yeah, Khry. I feel ya, but click-to-move is in a lot of MMOs and is usually disabled in P2P MMOs, while usually always usable in F2P MMOs. It was just a thing to discuss, something different than the normal debates/discussions in here. Really, do you like it? Do you use it? Do you dislike it? Do you refuse to play a F2P because of it? I'm just asking for discussion of a MMO issue, here in the Pub. |

Hi everyone. I've played P2P and F2P MMOs for a few years now, been a member on this site for years now, and there's one thing I absolutely hate in any MMORPG. That is the "click-to-move" feature. To me, it is not a feature. It is something reminiscent of 1980s technology. Atari 2600-era perhaps. No wait, the Atari 2600 used a joystick or a paddle, essentially WASD (for lack of a keyboard). Agree. Flame. Rant. Discuss. |

Good honest review. The best F2P (free to play) MMO I have seen yet. Not a grindfest, full of quests, level gain is like WoW or LotRO. I've heard of some people wanting to play a pay MMO like WoW, but have no credit card and don't want the hassle of game cards. Forget the P2Ps... Grand Fantasia is basically the same gameplay and features as WoW, EQ2, and LotRO, just completely free. Nothing to buy, no monthly charge to play, no expansion packs to buy. No, the graphics aren't the BEST, the gameplay isn't the BEST, there are no flying mounts, only ground mounts. But it has mail, guilds, banking, sales brokers (like AH), factions, pets, crafting, and all the basics of a MMO, just free of charge. |

I guess I answered my own question. After some more browsing, I found 'The camera itself is the only -big- problem I had with this game. Due to a camera that doesn't like to move with the characters themselves, and having to use the mouse to change camera angle or view, it was hard to navigate in smaller or enclosed areas, such as caves, dungeons or even shops within the towns.' at http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/DOMO-Dream-of-Mirror-Online/review/DOMO-Review. |

I read like six or seven reviews of DOMO yesterday, and a bunch of forum posts about DOMO, and NEVER saw anything written about the camera not auto-follow nor anything about WASD only makes your character go forward, backward, and strafe left and right. Characters do not turn, like can't turn in circles? The camera is not able to be set to auto-follow your character, turning with the character? Is this how DOMO is and cannot be changed? If so, this is not like ANY MMO I have ever played in the past five years. I wanted to try this game, but a lack of camera and/or character controls based on industry standards is very unprofessional IMHO. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Yo, I want to try this game. I happen to live in the US but will only play this game if I can use a Euro version and play on Euro servers. This possible? Stupid localized versions. |

Has MMORPG always been like this?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/30/06 11:15:37 PM
You are exactly correct, that is just what forums are about. That is what they have become and it's complete bulls**t. All forums here and WoW forums in particular, and many other MMO and gaming forums, are filled with spamming like 'first!' and 'IBTL' and flaming anyone and everyone that takes the time to post something. These people are called trolls, remember that and don't become one. Intelligent discussion written in good readable English? No way, just all kinds of 1337-speak and net shorthand like 'wtf.' Hey, I understand the shorthand thing like using 'lol.' I can sum it up shortly. It's because games are, admit it or not, kid's toys. It has been and always be that way. I am far from a kid, agewise and maturity, but I do play games. It's entertainment to me. The computer has become the babysitter, think about it, or admit it if you're one of the kids I'm talking about. The TV was the babysitter in the '90s, now it's the computer. Sadness. |
