Why is it that in all most western mmorpgs only high level players get to fight monsters that drop loot that are actually worth anything? All it does is alienate new players and makes it super hard for them to actually break into the game. In some eastern mmorpgs that i have played that were really successful, even noobs could make some money to get by because earlier level monsters would drop crafting materials or items that everyone in the game could use, including high level players. Sure the best armor and gear would potentially still only drop of off high levels bosses, but you could allow low level players to participate in the economy too by allowing them giving them a niche in the market only they can fill.

Well the biggest MMO in the west or east does have monsters that drop crafting mats. They drop magic items that can be dis-enchanted, cloth and rares.

Also the reason high levels need more money is because the money sinks, repairs, potions for raids, mounts, etc cost way more at that level.

I guess the real question is why are you complaining about something that is not a problem instead of asking how you can make money in whatever game it is that is so "unfair" to you?

A good game will always come out on top. Word of mouth will spread, friends will pull in friends and the game will slowly grow, even if it is not on the big radar.

You can put the blame wherever you want, and it will be false - if the game had been better, it would be reflected in its success.

I have not personally played TSW, and I would not even be attracted to it: Not another levelbased tab-target, holy-trinity quest-grinder, linear without freedom, and without a challenge. I cannot remember the last time I was seriously challenged in a WoW-clone, and I cannot imagine that I would be in TSW either.

Innovation is the name of the game, and TSW did not innovate enough.

That sure applies to Eve, oh wait noes it don't.  It has problems for several reasons.

!.  Until recently when it went on Steam it had no major retail avenue for purchase.  Not everybody likes Walmart but it    sure  feels like they all shop there and you can't get a box copy of this off the shelf.

2. In the same vein Marketing was absolute ass for it.  They had a couple pages in pcgamer and that was pretty much it.

3. Box price was high, monthly charge was high (both especially in Europe) and they had the frills store.  This turned some   people off.  Funcome is seen as a European company and in Europe this game is the most expensive.

4. Some folks still felt burned for past games, I don't know if its that big a deal but it did not help.

If they decide to go f2p along the same style as Turbine has they could quite probably turn it around.  The game is a definite breath of fresh air and runs fine.  There are a few bugs but nothing like their two previous mmo's and not near as bad as GW2 or some of the other recent releases.

Raph Koster is a fine example of why the MMO genre is stagnant.

Game leaders asking a man that no company wants to hire because he ruins games yet still listen to his ideas about making them. Thats right, I said it...7 years, no company wants him. Why? BECAUSE HE RUINS GAMES.

Oh he was part of UO, yeah he was wasnt he...he was part of a TEAM with THE man, Garrot. And when control was handed over to Koster the game went to crap and what did he do? Left the company and blammed others for it. The expac that killed UO was KOSTERS, he left the company a few months before release which means the entire setup was HIS because it takes 6+ months to design an expac.

SWG? sure it was a good game, not a GREAT one. Worlds made with a random generator, can shoot through the ground and walls, no 3d x/y axis allowing for no jumping and mounts that somehow hover 3ft above the ground yet will stop if you hit a pebble...databases that were so piss poorly designed the game required a reboot EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Oh and how about EQ2...the ball dropped so hard he was EXILED by Sony to make single player console games and it took TWO expansion packs to fix his mess.

So how great is Raph Koster, 7 years...7...no company wants him, he cant even get financing for his own company. The genre needs to move forward and stop listening to this man, a man they wont even hire...seriously, how STUPID are developers. Oh, we dont want you working for us, but please...do talk and we will listen to your advice!

Please disregard this post as this person is obviously suffering from RNC hangover and can not tell facts from fiction.

Isn't this the same thing as in Age of Conan?

Failure seems to indicate either no longer running or in need of a complete overhaul.  SWtoR does not fall in that category.  Yes its going ftp but its not changing its core gameplay.  Just off the top of my head three that had to do that are (in no particular order) SWG, FF XIV and Tabula Rasa.  The first two either had a complete game overhaul or are discussing it.  And two of them aren't even running anymore even though they started in a much less crowded field.

You might claim that SWtoR was disappointing in fiscal performance but I don't even know if that is true.

5. Tera is too easy.  I was able to reach the level cap within three weeks, and that's not playing every day.  Leveling to max level should take at least 2-3 months, not 2-3 weeks.  Players (even with their complaining) need a challenge to stay interested.  Tera was so easy players left after hitting level 60.

Aion a few years ago took a long time to hit level 50, i remember it taking me about 2 months to hit 50, after level 45 it took me pretty much a week to gain a level. How did that help the game? the answer is, it did not the sub dropped significantly. The point being, very few people enjoy grinding to level up, because most MMORPG are set up in such a way that pretty much make leveling a race to endgame. WoW created a MMO population were ENDGAME is the point of the game and until that attitude is removed from players, slowing leveling will always be perceived as bad. Anothing thing to add is tht in most games there really isn't any incentive to not rush to the end, because everything punishes you for staying as a low level.

The problem isn't slow leveling, the problem is grinding to level.  If I take a week to level but the leveling is full of entertainment then its not a problem.

I think devs have focused to much on the end and not enough on the journey.  In that sense they are light on content in mid game areas.

I remember going back to WoW in WotLK and totally blowing past areas due to fast leveling.  In progression it would be starter area, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood, etc.  Now its starter, Westfall, Duskwood and so on.  It seems like instead of going 1,2,3,4 I was only hitting every other area.  There was no slowing down to see the area and exploring.  I would not do all the quests in an area maybe a third.  By accelerating the leveling the devs wasted all that good questing area and there by shortened my time in their game.

If you have 100 hours content in your game and I blow by half it due to increased XP then you need to have a constant stream of content at end game.  I think devs are screwing themselves out of breathing space by hurrying people to end game to quickly.

Overhyped, its an ok game. I think its down to it being without a sub fee that helps.

Sorry to say it GW2 is not gonna be the next best thing, not for me anyway. TSW on the other hand ;-)

Lets compare Funcom/EA track record to NCsoft track record.  If I was in Vegas I'd go all in on GW2.

Let's do that shall we:

Funcom:  MMO's 3-2 had poor launches, but all are still running.

NCSoft: MMO's (going english only) 12-several had poor launches and half have been closed.

So on the one hand you have a niche MMO creater that has some problems with launches but still keeps their mmo's open and fans entertained.  Then you have the company that has had some problems with some of their launches and sometimes these problems continue on thru game and when the company is displeased with the profitability of said game they just shut it down.  Hmmmm.  Look not trying to bash on NCSoft here, but let's be real.  NCSoft is about profit (as is Funcom to be sure) but ncsoft is much more bout bottom line and less about its fans.

With both companies publishing a comparable amount of games.  Funcom self publishes and NCSoft publishes 50/50 its own and others.  Just feels to me that Funcom is a game maker that publishes and NC is a publisher that makes games.

The PvP in this game isn't very good at all in my opinion. It mostly boils down to your gear and your build. You can very easily be one shotted or stunlocked and killed within 5 seconds. They have made some balancing improvements since I stopped playing the closed beta around 2 weeks ago, but since TSW is a skill based game (I mean skill based in the sense of progression and not player skill) the interaction between certain skills can get outta hand. There really is very little player skill involved. Dodging one attack wont get you the win if you don't have a oneshot or stunlock available. Fights are very short for the most part. The objectives are boring and uninspired. Capping a few spawn points and a few facilities on a small copy paste map isn't very fun after a little while (unless you are one of the people with uber gear and a crazy build).

To me it boils down to the fact that 3 faction PvP is hot right now and Funcom just threw it into TSW without building the game around balance, skill and fun. Some people will like it and some people will love it especially if you want to PvP where very little skill is involved and your power is determined by gear and how cheap your build is.

Just my opinion though..

agreed.. unfortunatly:(

Yea you would think after all this time they would get it right, oh wait.  It is still betas!!!!

SWTOR did have hundreds of hours of content.  If you went exploring, crafting, pvping, etc.  People that blew thru just the main storyline as fast as they could did not understand that.  The content is there if you take the time to enjoy it.  Unfortunately people seem to feel its a race and want to be "first",

The same can be said of TSW.  If you take time to clear each area you will be entertained for a very long time.  If on the other hand you just do the main quest and dabble breifly in faction quests you could knock it all out in a week.  Does that make the devs liars for saying there is hundreds of hours of game play?  No.

Did not read whole thread will say that in beta dev already said they were limiting choices in character creation.  In fact its been repeated ad nauseum.

They could delay this til christmas, and it would still be nothing more than a great setting tied to an incredibly lackluster game, that only a small amount of children who think finding a number on a pillar is a "clever puzzle" will embrace for very long.

Why so bitter friend?  Your beta keys not work?

Is it farfetched to believe that Umbrella corporation is testing a virus to bring dead soldiers back to life?  That the virus gets released due to corporate espionage and takes over Racoon City?  That Umbrella is prepared to nuke the city and claim it was a meltdown at the local nuclear power plant?

All entertainment media is farfetched.   Good always prevails (and wears white).  Bad guys get their come-uppance.  The loser will get the hot chick in the end.

Personally I don't think anyone has one. We all knew Diablo 3 was going to be online, we all know there are bugs in ANY game and they don't always surface until its to late.

When you purchased the game you good and well knew what you were buying. There was no secret, the game was for everyone to see. We even had a sneak peak at how a stressed server would handle. We all know extremely popular online games suffer instability every single time.

Seriously though, you honestly think you can moan? This isn't likely most of your guys first rodeo.

Moan, really.  The only moaning I hear is "Oh god, Oh god".  You might ask why people are complaing and it's cause blizz dropped the ball and activision/booby kotex are ruining a franchise.

*sigh* I feel like I've explained this a thousand times. There can not be any offline single player. Online only was a specific request from the Diablo 2 community due to the complete and utter game ruining that was item hacking. The only way to completely stop Item hacking is to make the game online only. They even asked the D2 community if that's what they wanted and the results were overwhelmingly YES, ADD ONLINE ONLY!!!

I'm sure its not the same people complaining. But still. Most of you aren't even aware of the true issue with offline Diablo. Especially when you consider there is going to be structured PvP and the auction houses. We absolutely hated Item hackers. It literally ruined loot hunting which was like 98% of the game.

Why even play the game at all after you beat it sense you can just hack all of your armor to be a god?

It was aweful and gravely impacted the community. So online only was added to D3. Not just for piracy reasons but because the community itself wanted the feature to preserve the integrity of the game. Any offline at all opens the door to hacking. In a game like this, it ruins everything.

You can explain all you want.  Your explanation and Blizzard's reasoning for always online is still crap.  All I want to play is single player.  If I want to do multiplayer I will sign into one of the many mmo's I am playing.  The real reason they went always online is to cut used sales off at the knees any other explanation is crap.  And since I neither play nor buy crap I will not participate in D3 just like I have not participated in the last 3 games put out by Blizzard.

I'm also disappointed so far with how anticlimactic finishing these tasks are. There's no sense of closure. The raven quest for example, run around to these locations, fight the revenant a few times, then fight a final version of him. That's it, no closure, That's the end of the story apparently. Wth? This was the case with all of the tasks I've done so far. Weird for the sake of weird isn't really my thing I guess, I was expecting some hidden layer or element of over arching story.

Dude you killed one Revenant.  You didn't battle Cuthulu and the Ancient Lords to a stand still and save all humanity.  What you think hosanahs should be sung and the seraphim should trumpet for your triumph over one lesser evil.

Are you serious ? Go kill 6 zombies , go hop on 6 cars and then light cans on fire ? I'm getting a flashback of 2004 when WoW launched with go kill/go fetch quests. Maybe I'll try it some more later but it does not look promising. Graphics are nice though.

Got out of bed this morning looked out windows, saw the sun.  Are you kidding me it was sunny yesterday and the day before.  And the last sunny day a lot of bad things happened to me.  Screw that I'm /awakequit and going back to bed.  Oh but the sky was blue and clear.

typical corporatism today, just like others on this thread i await the hardcore to explain this away as something other then TOR.

Hate that the suits can just do whatever they want and the rest of the universe can burn while they sit in their yachts and drink champagne. Typical, it's like what happened with the banks in 2008.

Actually the whole industry took a beating Q1 2012, not just EA so its not difficult not to blame this on TOR since all the other publishers don't have anything to do with it yet they lost money to.  Still "haters gonna hate" right?

Some game I have not played and still in development might have graphics/gameplay/players/pvp/colors I don't know that I will like so I think it will fail.

There seems to be a lot of these type of threads.

So an old review from a site most people have never heard of gave SW:ToR a bad review.  Sounds like an easy way to drive traffic there.

Anarchy Online has the Meta-Physicist that has 3 pets (tank, mezzer, heals).  The meatballs.
