Ok well funny thing happened.. My pc died.  So I decided to take the plunge.  I went and bought a intel mac installed BootCamp and reinstalled EQ2 onto it.  Ok before this I admit I was saying that I wished that eq2 was cross platform..

Well,  Sony wouldnt go to mac so mac went to sony (and yah I know they didnt do it just for this game.. no need to grind that topic).  The game runs better than I have EVER seen it on my older PC.  The graphics are stunning and I can run it at maxed lvls with very little problems (excepting raid groups of 24 where the spell effects can cause the bogging of the most powerful comps).  Gave me a whole new respect for macs and all I can say to this is.. sorry Sony you missed out on a potential sale.. I would have rebought the program to have it run but since I could use the pc version.. no sale here.   Not that it makes me unhappy.. thats $$ back into my pocket

Quote: all the newer mac's can run in windows compatibiltiy mode and run windows games just fine

Can they really? I mean can they run it up to speed with the PCs?  The older windows Mac program last I knew had serious issues with running basic programs up to speed.. let alone games that are processor intensive.

If that has changed all i can say is WOOT, its about time.
It sounds silly I admit, but I do love the game and I am frustrated when my friends cannot play what I love because of cross platform issues.  Apparently I must live in an area of New England where most are mac users versus pc.  Go fig.

But seriously, my complaint is that they (SOE) MADE the statement initially that the game would be excellent with macs.  So my beef was why the change of heart??  What suddenly changed to make them retract their own statement about Macs?  I have talked to some of the creators in live forums and their basic response was and I quote "NO COMMENT"
SOE has many many problems.

For starters:  GM response time to reports made about Horrible players that should be banned for sheer annoyance factors.
Example: you are killing a critter, someone takes their character gets in your face jumps up and down in front of you while you are trying to kill the critter and starts swearing just because they are immature.  Response time for GM on this... doesnt happen. (waited a hr with this moron doing this and me reporting every 5 min.. nothing.  It didn't stop me from killing the creatures but it does get beyond annoying.  I dont see why I have to be chased offline because of someone else being an idiot.

SOE petitioning.
Dont know what they have done in regards to this but it is now near impossible to petition anything.  you have to go offline.. to their website and then you play ring around the rosey with their darned pages trying to find the actual petition sheet.  and IF you are lucky and get the petition files.. you might get an in game response in about 6 hrs.  MIGHT

SOE's lack of wanting to make their games Cross-platform.  Yes I am still going on about this.  other games have no problem making their games available to Mac users (WOW, NWN).  What the heck is SOE's problem with Mac people???  They initially stated that EQ2 would be fantastic with the new (at the time) mac graphics.. then they take it back and state that they will never make a mac version of their new games.  I mean what happened did Steve Jobs fill their christmas stockings with coal or something?  Dont understand the Mac hatred they have.

Those are my beefs with SOE
What is this deal that SOE has about not allowing MAC users to play?  Do they have a personal vendetta out for them?  It is the reason I think that WoW has a lot of people about half of them are MAC users!!!

I give my person experiances as my reasons.  I have ten friends, 7 of them are Mac users.. and all 7 of them said that they would have tried EQ2 if it allowed them to play it but since they cant.. they all went to Wow.

I am annoyed because I really love EQ2 and would love for my friends to share the experiance but they simply CANT!  And then SOE makes the statement that no MAc version will ever be released for EQ2.  I see SOE as shooting themselves in the foot for this.

I mean seriously... if Neverwinter nights can make Mac and Pc play together and if WoW can do it.. then why cant EQ2???????

now that would be really cool.  Real disarming function for the rogues... have spike traps and acid doors and all that fun stuff.  That would make the rogue classes an imperative to have in your group for those dungeon crawls.  Also the finding hidden doors...

DDO has those features and I loved it for that.  But to be fair those rogues were impossibly hard to play solo (then again that whole game of DDO is impossible to play solo - and yes I came back to EQ2 after only a month.   But back onto topic.

Giving the rogues something to do outside of backstab attacks and arrow hits and invis and escape would be killer.  Make them an important part of the group for finding that killer Master chest hidden behind the secret panel.
I was initially hoping with the Sinking Sands/ deserts of Ro expansion pack that they would give us cool mounts like a Camel or an elephant!  How cool would that be to be lumbering around on one of those!  The carpet was cool and all but within a month there were carpets everywhere and it is the only choice outside of a horse and a ghost horse.

I really dislike continuing the upgrades to horses... whats the deal with the horses?  Horses are fine.. that said.. lets get something new in there.  I am still hoping for a Elephant considering there are elephant dealers everywhere but with no ability to buy them.  Then Kelethan comes out and low and behold.. MORE horses.  *sigh*  At least they fixed the chunky horse legs.

I want a Elephant!  A camel!  A lizard mount like they had in EQ1 that I could never afford.   Anything but more horses and new horse armor...
A while back they did merge a lot of servers to increase population.  I cant speak for most servers but Permafrost and Blackburrow are usually packed with people.  But the thing to keep in mind is also the TIME OF DAY in which you play.  I like to solo a lot so i discovered if I want free access to things without fighting for the mob I play when most people are at work or at school, which in my area seems to be M-F between 6am - 2pm EST.  I noticed a huge server jump in population after 2pm and again after 5pm.  The evenings are packed with people and you cant go anywhere without raid groups forming, or just general screams for LFG.  So my recommendation would be change the hours you play normally first, see if that changes your populous.

If it still seems a bit low, then you can always try a server move.  You take your characters with you, but make sure you read the instructions on how to do this so you dont leave anything behind.    I did move my character from Permafrost to Blackburrow so i do know that it can be done.
Well I can reply for Blackburrow.  I play mostly during the daytime hours during the week so I can say that if you play when I do the numbers are down.. meaning most people are at work or at school.  I play during these times because I like to solo and not be bothered with grouping so much.

But if you play after 5pm est m-f or on sat or sun the server is very full.  You should have no problem finding groups and the guilds abound so no worries there either.

And in case you wonder I am part of one of the largest guilds on the server which respects that not all players like to raid.
The fact that they actually pulled these peeps from the game is good news to those of us who actually like to PLAY the game and get the loot for which we work so hard for.  Finding and farming things is hard enough without all the cheaters out there camping high mobs and nodes to get the rares to sell for $$.

And the servers are far from empty, trust me, I struggle to find times in the day when i can play without a crowded zone (and always avoid the new zones from the expansion for at least a week when they come out)
I only managed to play WOW for a week before I was so disgusted that I left for greener pastures. My 3 reasons for leaving:

1.  Within the first 24 hrs i was told no less than 20+ times that my character was hot and had great boobs.  How sad is that?  I changed servers seeing if perhaps it was maybe an immature server and lo and behold the second server I tried (and this time I played horde) was no better.  I kept getting random invites to group that I never asked for, and the constant chatter of a nature which I would not repeat in a public forum that was under the age of 18.  Now I am not a prude.. seriously and I can joke with the best of them.  But for this being my introduction to WOW and my free week of playing I turned away and never looked back (basically this was the final straw).

2.  My main reason for wanting to play was so I could join the guild that my friends were on but they were alliance and i WANTED TO PLAY A COW~   So unless I played a winged eared elf (the only other character I wanted to play other than a tauren) I was SOOL.

3.  Way to flat.  was hoping for some killer graphics but the characters faces were painted on!  and their armor was also painted onto their bodies.. YUCK.  Just my opinion, but sorely disappointed in this.

WOW did one thing right that SONY needs to have its butt kicked for... at least on WOW Mac people can play PC people.  EQ2 is PC only which is why many of my friends went to WOW, it was one of the ONLY mac mmorpg's available.
