Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: E3: The Progress of WAR
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/18/08 10:59:17 PM
Honestly I don't expect to see puzzles in WAR. Maybe some stuff where you have to trigger X buttons to open Y door, but in Warhammer this is how we deal with puzzles. Chaos High Sorcerer *standing on a balcony* : Mua ha ha ha ha ha! We have sealed the door to our sanctum with an impenetrable spell, which can only be broken by matching the eight marks of the Gods to the eight points of this Chaos star! Foolish servants of Order, you will neve- *Witch Hunter shoots Sorcerer in the head, Sorcerer falls off balcony and dies messily* Witch Hunter: Sigmar be praised. He was getting annoying. Alright, bring in the cannon. *dwarves blow up door and cultists are slaughtered* Witch Hunter: The Inquisition doesn't do puzzles.

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: High Elf Swordmaster Class Overview
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/06/08 4:37:53 PM
Swordmasters = extremely effeminate Jedi with a little Sephiroth thrown in. Is it bad that they're the only High Elf class I'm looking forward to? :D *flips out and kicks ass* |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Josh, Jeff and Paul... What Do You Do?

It was a lag-fest the first few days, yes. But after a few days, they released a patch that fixed most of it, and after that it was freakishly awesome. I remember running through St. Martial on my mastermind taking out bombs, and then a ddropship flew directly over me and bombed us all over the area. And then there was that time when me and five other people stood on a rooftop in Skyway City nd killed at least 200 Rikti... Great update even if it had a rocky start. The warzone is awesome as well, and all the Rikti now have kickass new armor and gunblades. Yes. Gunblades. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Beta Registration Reaches 200,000
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/17/07 11:17:23 PM
Have you naysayers been watching the podcasts? This game isn't just going to match WoW, it's going to blow it out of the water, at least that's what it looks like to me. And for the record, look at what Mythic is trying to do. They're trying to make six races with four different classes for each ... what''s that... 24 classes. All with thier own gimmicks and game mechanics. Any idea what kind of a nightmare that will be to balance? The forums can and will crash with cries of imba when the beta launches. Many of them will be justified. I myself don't fancy being on the wrong end of the Black Orc's combos. Said cries of imba will be used to fix the game. There will be further cries of imba when the game fully launches, because it's an MMO.
And here's another idea. If you don't like that game or don't think it's going to be any good, go away. Leave it alone so you don't have to worry about it anymore. Leave us people who think otherwise be. |

Well, !10 /is/ on the test server. Can't be terribly long. Damnation this is going to be awesome. I can just imagine my RP SG. There's a rumbling, and it does't sound like thunder, so we go outside of our base .... the skies are black with Rikti warships and green fire rains froms the air.... FRIG. To arms, to arms!
It's about time the Rikti Crash Site got some attention, too. The Co-op TF is going to be crazy fun, but probably imbalanced. Masterminds and Defenders... yeah. Brutes and scrappers? Still much fun tho. |

I dont mind "unbalanced" classes.
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 4/23/07 1:27:56 PM
Let's take the classic idea of warrior vs. caster, EX Warrior Priest vs. Magus. The Warrior Priest comes in swinging, but the Magus nails him good a few times on the way in, so once the Priest closes he's injured. The Magus can't take hits from a hammer well, though, so one of a few things can happen now. Both are injured.
1. The Magus pulls off some sort of Chaos control or slow attack, rides his Disk out of range, and pummels the Priest with one last volley of spells. 2. The Priest resists a spell or two and smashes the Magus's face in. 3. The Magus dodges an attack or two and fireballs the Priest in the face. 4. The Magus starts doing enough damage to finish the Priest, but the Priest stuns the Magus and finishes him. If the two players know how to use thier separate abilities well, the fight can go either way. And, of course if it's not a 1v1, it's entirely different. The Priest might have to deal with a Chosen or a Marauder on the way in, but he might have an Engineer or a Bright Wizard to go toe to toe with the Magus at range. Let's try a "healer" say, Rune Priest, vs. a Black Orc. The Black Orc charges the Rune Priest (as Orcs are prone to doing). The Priest uses some manner of damage absorption rune and the Orc's first attack doesn't do much. The Priest responds in kind, attacking with a rune-enhanced weapon. The Orc is tough and armored, has many other attacks, though, and the next few badly injure the dwarf. The Priest heals himself with a rune, but by this point there really isn't any chance of the Priest winning. Here the Priest, a clearly defined grouping class, is beaten by the Black Orc, a devastaing melee solo warrior. Now, if the Orc had to deal with an Ironbreaker here, he'd be in trouble. From what I've seen of the game so far it looks like it'll be pretty damn balanced. DaoC may not have done that well in its later years, burt Mythic aren't stupid. I somehow doubt they'd take on the monumental task of balancing 32 classes without having some decent plan for it. |

Anyone else annoyed by servers tagged as RP?
Role Playing Discussion « General Discussion 4/23/07 12:46:53 PM
Eh, I don't see the point of RP servers, especially with what happened to WoW. There are a few decent servers, but for the most part RP server is just a name, it doesn't mean anything. Often the idiots and RP-griefers actually come to these servers just to piss off roleplayers. In CoH we don't have any tagged servers, some servers (namely Virtue) just have an inherent higher RPer population than others. There are precious few antiRP losers. I think it'd just be a good idea to set down servers, maybe PvP and PvE servers, and allow the RP population to grow where it will. Putting guidelines on it doesn't do anything helpful.

City of Heroes: Developer Diary: Invention System
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/16/07 1:02:29 PM
You need to stop with the caps. Thanks.
And as an avid and decently long time player I think this will be very, very interesting and fun. The base item salvage was a cool idea, but it never really got off the ground because once you built the base parts it cost an absurd amount to place them, there wasn't really any point. Only thing salvage was good for was looking at, some of it was pretty neat. But now we're going to have an actual crafting system out of it. And the best part is that they won't be absurdly more powerful than normal enhancements, so if someone doesn't want to craft and just use plain old enhancements, well that's fine. Should be cool. |

What is it really that draws people into this game?
Paragon City Hall (General) « City of Heroes 3/05/07 5:15:54 PM
I have tried DnD Online, played WoW alot, I keep coming back to CoH because of the following twothings:
1. The community, as mentioned. The RP community is fantastic and the people who don't roleplay just let us do our thing. Whereas the community in WoW is, for the most part, like playing with mentally retarded brick walls. 2. The Sidekicking/Exemplaring system. If I had a dime for every time in WoW when I've outleveled a friend or vice versa I'd be richer than Countess Crey. SKing opens up new worlds in many ways. The environmental physics, the combat, and the customization are all simply better, as well. In WoW I can be running away from an enemy, and he'll swing his weapon, it it won't actually touch me, but I still get hit and killed. In CoH I can keep moving, staying out of melee, and it actually works. The one single complaint I have about CoH is the absolute nessecity to team in the later levels. If I try to solo I simply get nothing post-40. I need an 8-man team usually or my XP bar barely moves. I may have a deep-seated love of roleplay and taking my time, and I'm the exact opposite of a powergamer or min/maxer, but even I want to hit level 50 some day! I currently have a 42 Mind Control/Force Fields Controller and a 30 Mercs/Posion Mastermind. Now, bring on the invention system, and maybe a bit more endgame content... |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Disc of Tzeench Press Conference
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/07 4:37:48 PM
Wow, am I conflicted... do I go Disorder and my beloved god Tzeentch (I've wanted to roleplay a Chaos Sorceror for... yeah, longer than I can remember) and the oh-so-awesome Warhammer Orcs, or do I side with the Dwarves and the unmercifully badass Empire? The Empire totally beats the hell out of the Imperium.
Seriously, I'm looking forward to this very, very much. I try to enjoy PvP, but WoW's is dominated by twinks and CoH's is a joke. Finally a game designed for it with a setting I love, I think I'll enjoy. Probably should read up on Fantasy, I don't know enough about it. Most of my Warhammer experience before WAR has been in 40k. ....okay, Magus as my Disorder main, Engineer as my Order main, and Warrior Priest as my "Roars badass speeches to the Imperial forces at the top of his lungs, something everyone has to do at least once" main. |

Yep. No enforced rules. Blizzard doesn't give a damn about us. There are very few roleplayers compared to non-roleplayers. Plenty of people who enjoy annoying us.
And yet we keep on going and having a blast. What does that tell you? |

Bah! Bah, I say! Come to Steamwheedle Cartel. We've got an excellent RP community and guilds.

Searching for a game with real RP
Role Playing Discussion « General Discussion 1/25/07 1:03:52 PM
Well, the RP community in City of Heroes/Villains is excellent, and it is a game made for the RPers. The unbelievably versatile character creator allows you to play /anything/ you want, and there are alot of roleplayers. The people who don't tend to respect those who do. Stick to Virtue server, though, it's the unofficial RP server.
In World of Warcraft, check out the Steamwheedle Cartel server. I have a blood elf warlock, I'm in a very, very good RP guild, and I've noticed a lot of other RP. Can't tell you how it is Alliance-side, I'm afraid. |

Yarr.
I'd like to ask, what is your opinion on in character relationships in MMOs? I've had one and it was rather rewarding. |

I have to put in a big vote for CoH/V here. The backstory's concept, inserting superheroes into most of the 1900s' history (heroes fought in WW2. there was a second Pearl Harbor in Paragon City, analog to the war in Europe over the Pacific) always interests me. The in-game storyline is pretty damn good, as you get higher level you start to uncover incredible secrets about all the different villain groups. The game is hurt a bit by the ... well, I don't lie, CoX's missions get a bit repetitive. Different teammates, different maps, and different combinations of enemies help break it up a bit, and the better story arcs throw in an elite boss or even an Archvillain. The Task Forces are pretty fun stand-alone storylines that can take hours to complete, with some neat twists thrown in. (the final mission of the first task force is a three way free for all between villain groups, stop them or a dam goes kersplode.) not to mention the people who give you the task forces are the signature heroes and villains. I'm in the high 30s and am having fun digging up dirt on Crey Industries, the evil corporate conspiracy villain group. Damn their oily hides.

Looking for: Game with serious RP communities, option for private houses
Role Playing Discussion « General Discussion 12/20/06 6:55:00 PM
I'm afraid I can't compare it to EQ2 (never played), but I'd quite reccomend CoH/V. I'm an avid player and RPer.The RP community is very large and diverse and thanks to the character creator you can be anything you want. There are a few nay-sayers, trolls, RP nazis, but as a whole the community is very friendly to roleplayers. There are plenty of RP groups. As for player housing: There isn't any actual "player houses" but each supergroup can have a private base, that is very, very costumizable. Bases are upgraded with Prestige, a form of SG currency that is earned by members fighting in Super Group mode. It's pretty cool. There's also Pocket D, the in-game nightclub where you can find many roleplayers all the time.
The unofficial RP server is Virtue, which is what the above is based on. Make sure you go there. If you decide to, look up @Psythe and say hello. |
