So the WoW population should be considered around the 5M mark not 11M. So if you redo the calculations the number of WoW players using X-fire is roughly 1 in every 50.
So 50*3500 = 175,000 players, give or take 20% as margin of error (which is way way too much for the sample size, but got to keep the fanboys happy) and you have an accurate subs number. |

Some one sticky the above thread. Will save a lot of pointless fanboy ignorance. |

I'd say it's a good Game which is what the devs were looking for. It's a terrible MMO though. |

All SOE games are now available on steam, and they are pretty cheap so :D

Main problem with this is that you are taking WoW numbers from the entire world whereas xfire only registers accounts from the Europe and US. So if you want this to be accurate you need to take WoWs western population which is around the 5M subs mark. |

It will run on medium to low settings. The 5200rpm HDD, 2gigs of memory and 8600 gt will mean it'll be very laggy once you get 50+ characters on screen. I played on a higher specced laptop at medium settings and always ended up going back to my Desktop computer instead. |

Yep he played Wow for 2 years and he doesn't know there are 10 classes in Wow. He also "forgets" to mention that some classes in Wow can act as full healer, full tank of full dps. Just depending on the 61 talent settings which can be changed immediatly. Something you would have to level 3 different classes for in War. Add to the fact that the 22 War classes are actually pure mirror classes and you end up with a lot less in War. "A lot less" is the perfect word to describe War compared to Wow and far more than class attunements. From castle destruction to manned combat tanks, from crafting to a working economy, from personal flying mounts to underwater quests, from stable massive + 100vs100 fights to non crashing servers. From fluid and smooth controls of your avatar to Bg's that actually open up when clicked on. <Edit> the above list because I could go on and on and on. "Yep he played Wow for 2 years" -- News to me. Also, if you read my post I think I am clear on what was the end of wow for me. Read it again, and I think you might understand how they did something that caused me to not want to play ever again. "10 classes in Wow" How long has there been 10 classes in wow ? because I quit shortly after BC came out ? So I ask again, how long has the game been out and thinking on around when I quit how many classes were there ? Now take all that information and come to a conclusion on why I said the number of classes I did.
You said you been playing back in the days before BGs (patch 1.5, 07/06/2005), and you also said that you stopped playing when Horde got paladins (at release of Burning crusade, 16/01/2007). So assuming you spent a few months leveling your pally before patch 1.5 you played WoW for 2 years (is it still news to you or do you need further explanation? or where you just making it up to back your arguments?). So again, it says something about you since you payed to play a game you hate so much for 2 years. Is it something you do often or was WoW a special case?

Originally posted by Tyvolus1 I wont play any MMO without PVP and I have no desire to return to wow -- EVER. Paladins to the horde was the end for me. And to be quite honest I never played wow exclusively, I was usually running 2 MMOs and wow was the one I played less. EQ 2 and Lineage 2 are far better games. Anyways I am glad your friends can stomach the pvp and the limited, cookie-cutter classes. But, I need a mix of classes for pvp to be exciting and fun. If I am a shaman for alliance I should not be fighting the cookie-cutter opposite shaman for horde. WAR wins for me for many reasons, but the class selection is a BIG one. 22 classes to now, wow just hit 9. And the 2 factions can play them all. No, thanks. Lineage 2, EQ2, and WAR all blow wow away -- and they all have ALOT of classes to choose from. Blizz destryoyed world pvp a long time ago -- I know, I was playing at the time. YOur friends can harp on random encounters all they want in wow -- they exist in WAR too. Go to the other factions realm, in their quest areas, near their warcamps etc and tell me open world random pvp doesnt exist in WAR. Your friends are all about pvp yet prefer wows limited classes for pvp and the fact you can run through enemy players -- ummm, ok. So you payed to play a game that you hated so much for 2 YEARS (From introduction of BGs to BC expansion when horde got pallies)??? That says something about your state of mind. |

This is completely wrong. Players aren't leaving War because it isn't like WOW.. they are leaving War because it is too much like WOW and doesn't excel at the things it was supposed to ( RvR and epic battles). The big thing that was supposed to make Warhammer different than WOW as seiges. 1. Zone locking is borked - It's hard to lock a zone if the other side stops queueing for scenarios.. the actual VP system isn't understood and seems to be random and makes no logical sense. The best way to keep your zone from being locked is to go play in a different zone. 2. Fort raids - For the first 4 months, they are borked beyond belief. Any type of mass battle results in a server crash and reset. The only way to take a Fort is a stealth run in the middle of the night when nobody is defending... again, players wanted epic battles, not alarm-clock sniping. 3. City Seiges - So after jumping through two terrible hoops ( locking a zone, and surviving a Fort server crash), you now get to City seiges, only to find out that they are instanced, and 95% pve. ORvR in Tier 1 has better 'battles' than City Seiges? Now let's look at where the majority of players spend the majority of their time A. Scenarios - Exactly like WOW battlegrounds, only smaller and less complicated The only two things that really 'work' ingame are things that WOW does better. All the stuff that was supposed to seperate Warhammer from WOW is stuff that is borked or just plain designed badly. People aren't disappointed that Warhammer isn't more like WOW, players are disappointed that Warhammer has nothing different than WOW that actually works. If Mythic had made zone-locking, fort raids, and city seiges actually work, this game would be completely different than WOW.
This is an excellent post. If it got stickied it would save a lot of pointless threads. Number 3 is the real killer for this game. |

Again I might be wrong, but I think the announcement is intended to read like this:
Population cap #1: players under level 35 cannot enter. Population cap #2: players under level 37 cannot enter. Population cap #3: players under level 39 cannot enter.
I am assuming that population cap #2 and #3 follow the same "no entry": rule as population cap #1 does, but MJ just didn't pen his thoughts correctly. Again that is my assumption. The way it is worded does say it will teleport lower level people out at population caps #2 and #3, but that would be, to steal MJs own term, ten tons of brain damage.
This is also how I understood it. As a poster said earlier on, this IS instancing. Only one instance is up at a time though. They said they chose the graphics so that they could have large epic battles. Now WAR has crap graphics AND has so much lag once 60+ players on each side turn up that the game is virtually unplayable. I wonder what the 3 caps will be and how guilds will fare in T4 when some can get into battle while other while others can't. I wonder if this is what players had in mind when WAR released.

If you are getting killed by players 8 levels below you then there is some serious L2P issues with you. |
|

It flopped because it was released too early. People tried, got bored and left due to scenarios/lack of RvR.
It doesn't matter how good the game is now, MMOs have 1 chance to impress potential players. Mythic blew it and now they will have a 200-250k subs game instead of 1M+. One would have thought that Devs would learn lessons from Vanguard and AoC, but guess not. |

Anyway, the logic of this thread is that 2008 sucked pretty hard for MMO players. Both AoC and WAR showed potential but at the end of the day both Mythic and Funcom proved they are unable to deliver on their promises (or simply lack the skills to). What could've been 1+ Mill sub games will end up with 100-200k subs instead. |

Terrible name for an MMO. Flows off the tongue as well as acid. Anyone that doesn't like shit cop programs in the US (I'm looking at you CSI), and basically everyone outside, isn't even going to know what it even means. I'm sure it will be changed before release.
