Game engine was crap, looked like arse performed like arse as well, was no reasonable explaination. When your engine sucks your engine sucks, nothing will ever distract from it, whomever decided the game should be released with that engine as is should be held responsible. |

Troy Online: Full Service Begins on August 19th
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/19/11 4:33:52 AM
I never even made it off the first beach, I spawned, turned around and hit an invisible wall. In the other direction was 10 or so players who all looked exactly the same whacking on mobs that all looked exactly the same, didn't have the heart to continue. |

Rift's story is rediculous anyway, ascended "chosen ones" everywhere you look? I doubt any RP'ers will shed many tears, trying to RP around the generic fantasy of Rift was futile anyway. |

I suppose this goes to show just how long it has been since a AAA title was released - everybody is all over this like gravy. Personally, I'm holding back for a month or maybe even two to let things settle down, I'm getting too old for all of the commotion :) |

This is RR100 Marauder in defensive sovereign vs RR100 Shadow Warrior in offensive sovereign - Mara is in the worst possible situation for a Melee DPS, at range with only autoattack throwing axes, SW is at range using full range of abilities under no threat of melee attack, best possible situation.
No hacks, no cheats, no funny business, just absolutely unbeleiveable sloppy game design and management. |

I haven't played since Crusade, and to upgrade my account to Cata will cost £50, no thanks. As curious as I am about Cata I can't even trial it without buying Lich King. Can't really call Blizzard greedy because they are a business after all, but considering just how much they are making letting people trial Cata without having to buy all of the expansions prior to it isn't too much to ask, it's £30 for me to try Cata for 10 days. EDIT/ These are Blizzard store prices, I stopped buying physical media for my games years ago because it should be cheaper, no chance with Blizz. |

My level 10 adventures (new player experience)

Warhammer Online trial is a bit of a misfire IMO - not a true representation of the game, it's better and worse. A lot say the RvR is best T1, well, if you like what is basically deathmatch then yeah. But if you like organised RvR it sucks. |

General: Fighting Talk: Old vs New MMOs Part 2

I miss "Subway" or "Hub" - no Auction House, just a mass den of filth filled with players spamming for trades. If you were bored you could just go hang out in subway for 1/2 an hour and see what was going on. You'd have noobs in Arwic lining up at the shop to see what higher level players has sold, a row of matty coats and olthoi helms. Portal Storms could result in your mule being killed by a wasp if you were too encumbered, the world was alive. Before secure trading there were infamous thieves (Mote and Shard Mule!) and when you traded you had to have trust that when you gave a player an item that you'd get something back. There's no reason why some middle ground can't be found. Random loot for example, no item sets, just let mobs in instances have a higher change of dropping tighter loot. Take away Auction houses and have a trading area where players have to actually interact with other players to trade.

Anyone else intreagued by this game but wary about it because of what happened with Age of Conan

Originally posted by Amathe I think you missed a game, this is their third MMO, and the last two had bad launches. Maybe now you understand why people are sceptical when you yourself say that you wouldn't give them a third chance :) |

I'll not be pre-ordering TSW, but if the game is good I'll play it, but Funcom will not get any more pre-orders out of me! |

The Chronicles of Spellborn a free game that should be played
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 12/02/09 10:40:45 AM
I know a fair bit about TCoS having followed it's development, I even won a competition in 2007 to have a quest written into the game although I have no idea if it was ever implemented!
The original TCoS is dead, all that remains is a fairly stable engine and some good artwork. What Acclaim can salvage to monetize from that is anybodies guess. The game as it is now should be considered as a "technical demo" because it's obvious that Acclaim feel that they cannot profit from the game as it currently stands.
There is an obvious reason there aren't more twitch based MMO's about though, a little thing called latency and sure enough that's what I remember most about the game. Firing off ground based abilities that would land behind my target, dodging blows that would hit me even if I was 10 feet away, it became obvious that if you want a twitch based MMO than you had to have insanely tight network code. As far as I can remember the network code in TCoS was all but scrapped and outsourced to another development team, and when it came back there were indeed improvements, but it still wasn't good enough.
TCoS will never have the sufficient "local" servers to cut down on latency, running costs would be too high. Not quite sure what Acclaim can do with the game but I'll keep an eye on it regardless. |

Was there ever an MMORPG with a living breathing world that changed over time?

Does Paul Barnett still work at Mythic?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 11/01/09 1:05:11 AM
twitter.com/account/profile_image/thatbarnettblok about sums up his current position, keep your mouth closed! He is integral to the IP and very close with GW, if Paul goes all hell would break loose. He used to post video blog updates, but they caused uproars in the community, how dare he joke and show any sense of humour when the game sucks, hang him! |
