I do have a Raptor drive though, and I have never had a problem with the loading times, even when they were bad by most people's tastes. I run the game on high with all effects on and quality settings maxed, and the FPS never drops below 35. I have no experience with this open beta's ill repute. |

Best trailer yet for AoC. |

While the ship to ship combat is the best representation of naval warfare thus far to be recreated in a game, and the economy is completely player driven with a form of 'decay' (the best option for a sustainable economy), every other aspect of the game seems like it was copied from some 8-bit pirate game on the original nintendo console. I've been beta testing since the beginning, and I WILL NOT be buying this game. If you're looking for something different, it is that. |

If you are looking for a game that's even remotely "sandbox" in execution, stay as far away from this title as possible.

Age of Conan: Warrior Women of Hyboria

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that the arms on those character models are all anorexically thin. And after all this talk about making "women strong and powerful." You can't swing a blade with no muscle on your arm. |

Like a lot of folks in this thread, I was in the GnH beta as well. I can say with some certainty, that they will eventually release the game in some form or another. It was damn near complete, and games with as many assets as GnH had developed always appear on the market eventually, for better or for worse. The game had a few serious bugs, one of which rendered certain characters unplayable, and the devs readily admitted they had no idea why it was happening and had no fix to offer. I played a character to 20 until I got hit with this bug and subsequently decided to sit back and wait for a fix. My rig is decked out and I was able to play with all the eye-candy maxed out. Anyone who says the graphics sucked simply doesn't know what they are talking about. Zones like Venitrix Glades were simply amazing to behold. There was a ridiculous amount of quests, many of which were very involved and innovative in their delivery. In summation, the concept for the game was solid, and a first in MMOs. The minion system had a ton of promise and as far as interesting mythology goes, the chosen setting was the very definition of the word. With a few tweaks and some attention to bugs I believe they would have had a solid 250K sub base on their hands to start. I'll let you in on a 'lil secret. I was also in the Tabula Rasa beta, and this game was miles better in comparison, even in its relatively unpolished state.

Regardless of whether your email server was down or not, mmorpg.com always sends a duplicate notification to your personal message box here on the site.
However, I want to thank you, because someone who got disqualified allowed me to be redrawn for a key. Better luck next time! |

Pirates of the Burning Sea: Flying Lab Inks Deal With SOE
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/26/07 10:49:29 AM
Originally posted by TymoraIf by successful you mean taking a sure-fire hit like the Star Wars franchise and turning it into a steaming pile of subscriberless shit......... Let me explain to you how SOE's Platform Publishing works..... Do you think that SOE does it out of the kindness of their black hearts? Don't bet on that shit. Platform Publishing is a SCAM perpetrated by SOE to take control of independent franchises. First they promise to do all your marketing and distribution, but the trick is.....they do it very poorly and as cheaply as possible to insure a crippled launch, because just as everyone else has learned, MMORPGs rarely succeed with a poor launch. Of course it wasn't mentioned by Flying Labs that there is a clause in the contract that REQUIRES that certain projections be met. These projections are very difficult to meet with SOEs paltry support, and why would SOE want them to be met? Because of the money that SOE supposedly fronts for marketing, server support, publishing, and distribution on paper, Flying Labs MUST meet these projections or subsequently forfeit many rights to their own game. Case in Point: Vanguard: SOH. Examine the advertising that SOE did for that game.........if you could even call it that. They would have generated more hype by making phone calls. Granted I'm certain that Vanguard's contract was worse, but make no mistake...... SOE is in this shit to win this shit! BOTTOM LINE!

They aint lyin'......Gaute has said "sensuous and brutal world" so many times during the development cycle of this game, he is probably sick of hearing himself say it. None-the-less, I'm there opening day!
Post-script edit: Looks like we will be getting our Roleplay/Player Vs. Player server after all! |

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: SOE Aquires Sigil Assets
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/15/07 6:01:34 PM
Bahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!
Classic corporate takeover.................offer to "rescue" a company in trouble (Sigil), but fill the contract with obligations that the struggling company will NEVER be able to live up to. These are the day-to-day tactics of SOE, and anyone who supports them is a corporate shill. And to that jackass _kyle_ or whatever your name is. Brad started the whole mmorpg revolution with EQ1, and all that hath grown out of the industry, including this website here, is fruit of HIS tree. But hey.....you make a deal with the devil......be prepared to get burnt. RIP Brad.....your career in this industry is OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Pirates of the Burning Sea: State of the Game: Words from the CEO
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/07/07 5:36:59 PM
Further delaying the release was inevitable, but I'm sure it's shaping up to be a solid game with the addition of avatar combat and boarding party combat. Without major industry distribution, the game would never do as well as it could.
I would suggest Eidos as a distributor. Good luck! |
