Don't get me wrong it is very unique in its own way I just like how well it is blended together. I have been playing ffxi for the past 3.5 yrs waiting for something to keep me playing past the first 30 days and this is defenitely it.

NcSoft has done it again and Im so happy. BTW played Lineage 2 for about 3 years as well.

what are you getting payed for this blunt advertisement completely lacking any further information ?

Hey I decided to give Ryzom a try just to see how it is (since it does look rather interesting.  Problem i'm having is that everytime I try to install the game using the setup I downloaded, my computer completely freezes.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

thus far i never have heared of this problem. the best way to get help is in my opinion to get the help chat client installed - you find it under the support links of the homepage. this will enable you to talk about the problem(s) you have to support staff and knowledable players at the same time :)

i dont think that a particular forum actually goes worse, it is more a follow up and a consequence of the tight competition in the mmorpg market. have a look at the incredible list of new games! every fanbois community is trying to generate more momentum for their favourite game - some do it for cash others because they like it and want more population in the game. we gamers are sometimes *laughs* a special audience, we want to kil companies like micro$soft for not honoring our safety or privacy concerns on the other hand "we" install crap like gameguard without thinking over it again.

of course there are som differences in the agresiveness in the forums but this also has to do with different numbers of participants. from my expierence i would rate the forums i had listened so far as follows (from most aggressive biased downwards, only a few examples):

  1. aion
  2. lineage 2
  3. darkfall
  4. mortal online
  5. the rest is far below them

It has not been tried by the current owners. The previous owners were the problem so why would anyone sign up then.

They also didn't market a fresh server start. In order for it to be successful you need to build up hype and advertise, invite MMOG bloggers and websites to test the game and rereview it and get the word out.

Originally posted by Stradden Managing Editor Jon Wood counts down the top five games to be cancelled in mid development, never to see the light of day.

Everyone that follows MMORPGs can probably list a handful of games that have died an ignoble post-launch death, but what about the games that just didn’t make it? We followed these games that, for whatever reason, never made it to release. Some had their licenses moved on to other companies, some are pipe dreams of franchise fans and some just faded into obscurity, never to be heard from again.

Today, trapped in a sadistic bout of nostalgia, we take a look at what we consider to be the Top 5 of these games. Highly anticipated by their fans and yet left squarely on the design room floors:

Read the Top 5 MMOs That Never Were

i would alter the list as follows:

Ultima Online 2

Ultima Online Odyssey aka UO X

No, my friend. You are poorly informed. "Run as Administrator" is an option that only occurs in Windows Vista. The problem with Windows Vista is that most--- if not all programs, have to be "Run as Administrator". Microsoft overdid their security systems on Vista so that computer games require a Run as Administrator  manually enabled.

nonsense, i  play ryzom without admin privilidges.

nothing to adjust here.

should therefore be possible for every reasonable piece of software.

but tastes are different some guys like it to run everything under root *laugs*

agreed, i like the statement:

"the only thing"

statements like:

  1. BEST bla bla bla EVER
  2. KILLZ game ... bla bla
  3. YOU MUST try .... <insert microtransaction crap here> ...

are best taken what they are:

Nice excuse though.

I would suggest some to re-read about Gameguard, rootkit, anti-virus, firewall, and how the internet is structured.  Saw alot of half-facts in the thread that is not entirely wrong, but also far from correct.

Yes i agree for the most part. Mostly  trolls are posting but there are a few people who truly believe that not only GG but any DRM is going to take control of there PC. Ive read that people who played Bioshock had massive damage to their PC due to Securerom but i have never seen such damage or know anyone personally who has. Do not underestimate the paranoia of some people.

hm this could be interpreted like:

  1. you do not need kaspersky
  2. or anything like a firewall
  3. you do not need rootkit detection and removal aka blacklight or ...

viruses, trojans, backdoors and rootkits are simply overrated :)

oki you seem to have more knowledge on the game guard structure than most of us. can you explain how the installed device driver works and how it can be removed including all .dll's ?

(btw i dont give a rats ass about aion or lineage 2 or , ...) , BUT plain crap like gameguard ALWAYS makes me angry!

NO  particular game can achieve this.

people are discussing:

  1. secure internet surfing
  2. private internet surfing
  3. antivirus software
  4. rootkit detection and removel
  5. firewalls

AND ...

on the other hand SOME people do not have the slightes problem to install CRAPPY ROOTKITS like gamgeguard without complaining.

Not important? i actually would love to know if the final AION release will have GameGuard or not, Since gameguard Manages to generate blue screens in my computer i must be prepared -.- .

This thread is vitally important, because if Gameguard is in Release I will not be buying this game no matter how wonderful the game seems to be. Do the research yourself - - GameGuard is considered by most people to be:

a) a rootkit (and as such potentially harmful to the security of your OS)

b) plagued with bugs

c) destructive to legitimate software (see list on previously link)

So, if and when anyone can confirm that Game Guard is going to be in the final release... please let us know.

Wikipedia is hardly the best way to backup your argument.  And Gameguard stops you from playing, I'm just glad that I won't have to put up with your whining in game.

I've been playing Aion at work and at home, through various firewalls and antivirus programs, without any problems at all.  Saying that is is "destructive to legitimate software" is just stupid.

Gameguard will be in the release, and for all of those who have chosen this as their excuse for not playing:  Who cares?

EVERYONE who does not want to paticipate in an asian  bot network DOES care!

for short:

  1. gamguard is an utter piece of rootkit crap that adds nothing to security
  2. it installs a device driver on your system you have a lot of fun to get rid off *evil smile*. you might have to revove and find ! some .dlls yourself manually
  3. it doesnt allways stop operation if a game ends and injects nonsense overhead in running processes
  4. it is hacked within minutes after any "update" by the botters who laugh themselfes to death about this shit
  5. it did not prevent any asian grinder from becoming a tremendously large bot-farm despite that crap beeing used

Im not even worried about Aion.

so who are you that you can claim  such crap? are you emplyoed with ncsoft or did you steal the source yourself?

MAN, how stupid do you thing are the readers of your post?

Ive been gaming on macs for years now and love it. I love OSX and all of the perks that come with owning a mac (the great warranties, amazing customers service straight through the apple store, the apple store, the fact that every component inside a mac except the processor and gfx card and made by apple to work seamlessly with everything else in the machine etc) and on top of it I can run windows flawlessly through bootcamp. I get the best of both worlds! My mac experience has been grand from the very beginning. Very smooth, very bug free.

I just recently upgraded to the 15 inch unibody macbook pro:

2.80 core2duo

4 gigs ddr3

nvidia gefore 9400/9600 (512 mb)

500gb HD

If you get it before the school semester starts (and if you are a student, or know a student who you can have purchase it for you) you can get a smokin deal. The pricetag for this machine is 1,999. You get 200 off for being a student and you get a free printer and a free ipod touch. I sold the ipod touch for 200 (it retails for 250) so ended up getting 400 off the computer, making it $1,600. Great buy.

Now on to gaming. Ive been doing some testing over the past couple of days:

Fallout 3 on high settings flawlessly

LOTRO on very high settings with no problems at all, on ultra high with minimal hitching. This on dx10.

Darkfall on high settings with no shadows on gets me 150 fps.

Age of conan on high graphics no hitching.

I am running x64 Windows 7 (Its a great OS, even an upgrade from xp)

Sooo ya, do it!

Also. the poor emulation that you hear about is usually because people try to use VMware or Parralles to run their games. These programs are great in that they let you run windows in a seperate windows while you are booted into OSX, but windows cannot access all of your computetrs hardware this way. The only viable option to game on your mac is by using bootcamp, which lets you run winodows natively, although you can only boot into windows OR bootcamp. I boot into windows via bootcamp when I want to game but when I just want to do some random windows stuff Ill just open it in a small windows with Parallels while Im stil using my fun OSX :

Before people jump on here and start calling me out and saying im some sort of mac fanboy and I dont know anything about gaming let me state that I am also in the midst of building a gaming PC. I love my macbook pro but of course I realize that PCs are much more versatile for gaming and I would like to have one that stays at home (that I can always upgrade) for when I am not out and about.

Really what you should be doing is googling "gaming on a macbook pro* and checking out all of the mac forums and reading about poeples experiences. On sites like these you will get nothing but biased opnions. Most mac users who game will tell you that they recognize the benefits to both platforms and these people are usually better equipped to give solid opinions and recommendations. Also youll find tons of videos of people running crysis and similar games on their macbook pros. Just make sure you are reading forums and watching videos from at least 2009.

very well said.

i am currently using the following configuration:

Modellname: MacBook Pro
Modell-Identifizierung: MacBookPro4,1
Prozessortyp: Intel Core 2 Duo
Prozessorgeschwindigkeit: 2.5 GHz
Anzahl der Prozessoren: 1
Gesamtzahl der Kerne: 2
L2-Cache: 6 MB
Speicher: 4 GB
Busgeschwindigkeit: 800 MHz

Chipsatz-Modell: GeForce 8600M GT
Typ: Monitor
Bus: PCIe
PCIe-Lane-Breite: x16
VRAM (gesamt): 512 MB

and i play the following games at high details without any problems:

under MAC OS X:

  1. WoW

under Windows Vista (ok i try to be honest, i hate this crap :) , i'm a UNIX geek for over 30 years now):

  1. Saga of Ryzom
  2. Vanguard Saga of Heroes (14 day trial)

i setup a dedicated bootcamp partition only used for the games i play using windows.

working/programming and everything else i am doing only using OS X of course *smiles*

Macs are, simply put, over-priced fashion statements. Anything you can do on a Mac, you can do many different ways on a Windows machine.

Macs are ridiculously expensive for the hardware that you get. You can build an equally specced Windows based computer for usually half the price of a Mac(An example, I specced out a Dell Inspiron notebook and a Macbook pro a couple of weeks ago, the Mac cost $2400 and the Dell cost $1100). Macs give the illusion of "higher quality" due to deceptive marketting and higher prices, but the truth is the only difference in the price is the OS. The only reason you can't use the OS on a regular computer is because Apple won't allow it, not because there is anything special or better in their hardware.

If you want to play computer games, buy a Windows machine. Hell, if you want to do ANYTHING, buy a Windows machine or use Linux, I can't think of a feasible reason to actually buy a Mac over anything else beyond your school requiring one, or your deep desire to feel "unique" and "different". Vista is a pretty good operating system now, Windows 7 is just around the corner(Free upgrades from Vista to 7 when 7 comes out if you buy a Vista machine now) and it is an awesome OS.

<quote>Vista is a pretty good operating system now, Windows 7 is just around the corner...and it is an awesome OS</quote>

ok, my first and last post on this "topic"

i predict this nonsense will last until page 6

not so easy to "answer".

it largely depends on what games you want to play. titles like wow wich are no 3d killer applications you can play on a (proper) notebook so you could take for example a notebook + docking station approch. a decent notebook will suffice all your programming stuff unless it is 3d hardcore whch you have to develop on your own hardware.

if you want to play latest highly demanding 3d title there is no notebook option really existant. there are some so called gaming notebooks but they lack severely in overall operation time and are quite expensive. so here you would have to go the notebook and desktop way.

personaly i would always take the notebook + docking station solution but this can be expensive too if you want to have something good :)
