hmm...

Saga of Ryzomm could be what you seek. There is a larger trial period available, so you can check out if it fits your needs.

Just a few words about it:

  1. The graphics are not top notch 3d  but decent and very atmospheric, i always feel inside the world
  2. There are no classes in ryzom, you can learn whatever skill you want: offensive magic and 2-handed sword combat for example
  3. The client responsiveness i consider  beeing good, i play it most of the time on a macbook pro 15", not a gaming gear :)
  4. PVE grouping is not instanced, the only instances in ryzom ar the guild halls and player appartments
  5. Grouping is definitely required you will not be able to "solo" the game. all the big mobs you need to gain xp at high levels can only be defeated by a group. solo grinding is not at all possible here
  6. As you see from my signature i am not anymore a hardcore player, but now a more casual one -> in a good guid no problem at all.
  7. Crafting is very nice :), but also complex and hard. You have to harvest and/or hunt the needed materials and have to figure out what combination of the muiltiple possibilities gives the desired result. And success in crafting is no guaranteed :) so be prepared for degrades.

maybee worth a look for you?

Hello,

A while back I downloaded the game and played it when it was free. I had to quit due to having major brain surgery and then an arterial bypass. I have recently been able to get out of bed and sit at the computer once again. I really loved the game. It was everything I was looking for in a game and it was free. I would be willing to pay to play the game if I had a job but as I have just had major surgery  I haven't worked since Dec. of last year, the surgeries took a while to recover from. First the brain surgery then right after that I needed another surgery. So anyways I was wondering if it was still free. Right now i am playing Runes of Magic which is fun for  F2P but it is a lot like WoW and I did not care for WoW. Anyways I hope someone can help.

God Bless,

Dustin

Ryzom is once again P2P as a new company took over the game and made it possible to do further development.

To me and many others this has been good news, and even the reason for me to come back to atys.

Unfortunately this makes it not possible to play it for free - only a larger free trial period is available.

Everyone on this site knows that every game has its die hard fanboys that will either defend their game with every last dieing word they type, and come in and flame other games that get any type of positive attention. We also see the more manipulative sly ones that go into your favorite game forums asking dumb questions on why they should play this game over their current game, and then start spouting off dumb responses and trolling people.

So the question is... Which game does everyone think has the worst or most rabbid fanboys?

I have decided to post a poll with some bigger games in it.. so you can vote also feel free to discuss your reasons why you chose the way you did.

i voted for aion.

considering "games" of the past i would give my vote surely to DnL!

so here is my list including DnL *smiles* i cannot resist adding it.

  1. DnL
  2. Aion
  3. Darkfall
  4. MO

The rest is pretty meaningless compared to these.

nah do not be so pessimistic. you might ownly own the lineage cheaters goldsellers and botters ncsoft already owns :)

I have a job, buddy.  Great that you're ok with the current pricing. I am seeking insight, not a forum troll to come bitch. Companies, like Blizzard, should lower their prices imo. They can sustain their game just fine with less than $165 million a month.

welcome to the reality of an open market :)

  1. you might need to get a better payed job
  2. no company will consider your "crying"  => if you cannot pay simply do not play it
  3. play some of the microtransaction crap

I've been looking around for new upcoming MMO's, and it seems that alot of people really think Aion will be the next big MMO.

I decided to research abit more about Aion and it's the first game I've seen in a long time to have good, smooth gameplay, like WoW. I'm not saying that WoW is the best MMO out at the moment, though it does have the most subsribers, but I think part of the reason it is so popular is the gameplay, movements, smoothness of combat, etc.

Aion looks very promising, but I also notice it is by the company, playNC, which has a number of different MMO's which have not been very successful (Tabula Rasa, Guildwars, City of Heroes/Villains). - EDIT: I did not realise some of these games were quite successful, sorry about that.

So, do YOU think Aion will be the next big MMO?

Hm you mentioned Wow, so i conclude that with "big" you mean like WoW.

So my answer is NO, definitely not.

Ever hear of the saying to much of a good thing makes it not so good? Well I have a prediction and that is that SOON WOWs decline will start to happen.  For the last few years people have debated about the WOW killer games. This game is going to kill WOW and that game is going to kill WOW. Declining I think would be a more appropriate term to use. Killing WOW would mean turning off all the servers, and lets face it we know thats not going to happen anytime in the near future.

However that does not mean the games decline is not coming and not coming soon. Now saying this I do not really think that another MMO is ever going to reach the amazing level of success that World of Warcraft has been able to achieve but I do believe personally that within the next 1 to 2 years a game could and most likely will come along that will knock WOW out of its number one spot.

Lets face it, all good things come to an end, and WOW has definately reached its peak. You can go on any forum for anygame or fansite anywhere and people are looking for something new.. Something different. In the last few years we have seen several games come out with hopes of toppling the giant that World of Warcraft has become. But  They have been rushed to press causing for high promises that could not be fufilled and also very bug ridden.

I myself played in several of the Betas in the last few years. Vanguard... and WAR were 2 such Betas that I partook in Both claimed to be WOW killers. I didnt see it happening. As I watched both games launch with so much hype when I knew neither games were really even ready to be launched.

However some of the newer games that are upcoming.. Well I think the developers are learning from the mistakes of the past. I look at the current games I have been partaking in beta. Both Aion and Champions... Both games regardless of what some people say, are just at an amazing level of completion. They run smooth, seem to have done alot to get the content in the game before launch, and all around are more polished then what we have seen in the last series of games to launch IE the Vanguard to WAR era.. including games such as AoC.

At one time EQ1 was the reigning champion of MMOs... Sure Lineage had more subscriptions but the world then was more seperated when it came to gaming. But here in the West  EQ1 was king, and stayed that way for a good many years. But people eventually grew tired of it and wanted something new. Thats when WOW arrived a game that was well polished ran good and was exiting. It downed the king. They didnt kill it. Heck EQ1 still has more subscriptions than EQ2..However it doesnt sit on top anymore.

WOW is coming to that point... and I believe sooner than later. Especially with what I am seeing coming down the road. I will not say anyone game is going to do it. However people are leaving WOW.. and yes I realize new people still will log in or people will return. But the game has reached its saturation point. Now there really is only one way for it to go and that is down.  THe new line up of games in the next year to 2 years I feel will be responsible for that.

Anyway I am done with my rant. Just figured I would give my prediction. I could be wrong. However I dont think I will be.

oh yet another "WoW will die thread" very instresting stuff *laughs*

my response is clear:

Why? Why do we have to see bash over insult over flames, every single day? Why has the gaming community just changed from admiring a game to simply bashing it and throwing it overboard without even trying it and if so... giving ridiculous reviews after only playing the first few levels?

1. I do know that a game should be fun from the very beginning. After all, it's a game and fun is the main purpose of it, but games do need somewhat of a challenge in order to make it fun.... Anything given easily is not really appreciated, you should take some time towards what you want to achieve.

2. I am also aware of the reason people could get mad because they have not yet found what they truly want.

3. People might also want a virtual world in which they can get involved and enjoy.

But what I do not understand is the over-populated community of irritating, immature, and idiotic group of people that call themselves gamers. People, come on... S T F U... yes I said it, S T F U and get a life. What's the point? I'm fascinated at how people just bash Aion for whatever reasons, some like "Graphics are horrible!" (WHAT!?), "It shows nothing new, same crap, blah blah, next!" (FFS what do you want? To connect a cable up your butt and actualy go into a game where you see Dinosaurs with lasers attached to their heads and the first skill you have is to fly and blow things up with your mind...).

Another thing, if you are going to FLAME a game PLEASE make reference to THE perfect game you have in mind, please I bet many people out there would like to know which is the ultimate best game in the world that EVERYONE should play because *you has said teh trooth and we kno yur rait!!!*.

All I have to say with this is please people, try and not be such an ass and just enjoy it. It's called gaming because you are playing a game. Actually the definition of game is = activity engaged in for diversion or amusement. So keep that in mind. Just S T F U, pick a game, and enjoy it.

hm downfall of the gaming community?

i do not think so, because we should first agree what is the gaming community?

is everyone on a forum part of it or is he just a payed? fanboi/supporter/employee?

so here are my 5 cent:

  1. there is no consistent comunity
  2. there are many payed/unpayed fanbois doing the utmost to generate hype for their paycheck or wanna be big game
  3. the market is very tight it is flooded with so many titles of even very low quality so every vendor tries to get most attention/hype
  4. there is MUCH money that can be made here so the ones participating in the struggle for monetary gain take the gloves off

its the way an open and financial interresting market works i suppose.

This review is awful. I'm sorry, but micro paragaphs for every section? Did Atlantica skip out on advertising with you guys?

This game is a truely unique experience, and you guys get a reviewer that played 20 levels (takes like 3 hours) then types up a tiny review in half an hour?

There are numerous facets to this game that go unmetioned. People don't read reviews for to see how the items work, or the basics of combat... they read reviews to review the game AS A WHOLE. There is no mention of PvP? That's a gigantic part of the game, but I guess the noob quest to level 20 is all that matters. I'm all for honest reviewing, but I feel my intelligence being insulted when the reviewer's main complaints are no jumping and auto-walk. Holy cow... you don't have to autowalk and go AFK, you as the player choose to.

Seriously, MMORPG.com, get some reviewers with the slightest interest in getting to know a game before throwing a halfassed review on your site.

your statement is quite interresting because i felt the oppositehappened. i expected the game to yeild a much lower rating and considered the final score to be very generous.

i consider this beeing because it is very difficult to rate games from your own customers. remember the countless advertisements of this game on this site! and please remember that this site is THE microtransaction games advertising site -> look at the countless adds.

so what? maybee there should not be revies of games this site advertises?

So, I have been seeing an insane amount of hype for this game all over this forum for quite a while now.  This game seems to already be a huge success in Asia and is gearing up for the same in the west. I looked at their website to see what all of the ruckus was about, but from looking at the site, everything about the game looked very, well, average to me.

So my question is, what is so great about this game? What sets it apart from everyone else, and why is it such a success?

my dear friend,

what else did you expect in THIS forum?

Free version of DDO is released in few days (highly recommended)

APB announced game will be F2P

Runes of Magic is F2P almost as good as major AAA titles , ( or Atlantica that is not to shabby either )

Free Realms is F2P

Heroes of Nevereth , free

... list goes on

Battlefield Heroes just announced 3 million registered users, half of which made purchases. That sounds profitable...

Is this the dawn of age of free MMOs ?

I for one know , i will hold my subscription money.

Nothing on the market is worth my subscription. And as new comers CO and Aion ... definitely not.

(Cryptic went so far to ask for subscription and has item shop ... i feel trainwreck coming)

Have good free gaming

no my little padawan:

  1. the age of subscription is not dead, it is the age of quality games good enough for p2p that is dead or almost dead.
  2. with so much microtransaction crap and browser bullshit and flash nonsense the market is flooded with lowest quality shit that can not compete on a p2p base. so what we all see is the consequence of this.

"Always plant a lie inside a truth, makes it easier to swallow."

yes i think we now all know from looking at the aion/ncsoft forum the following "truths":

everyone who does not feel exited about this korean grinder is:

  1. whining
  2. racist
  3. a carebear not tough enough for this uber game
  4. a troll

BTW: You can guess the game i would suggest you from my signature, but a few already did this :)

so try them all for free if you can and decide for yourself.

I thought about getting Champions since Cryptic made City of Heroes which was a decent game, but then I saw the lifetime subscription thing, coupled with the game being published by Atari of all companies....

No this is wrong,

the definite signal of failsure of a game is the game going "free to play" (microtransaction).

this is the modern alternative to going bankrupt right away.

BTW: LOTR runs quite good despite lifetime subscription option. i do not play it but quite a lot of my friends do and many of them owned the life time sub.

Edit: i hate typos :)

Do you REALLY want these mouthbreathers migrating en masse to another game? What if said game is actually amazing and has every feature and addresses every issue you have had with MMOs over the years?

Who cares if a game kills WoW if it is something you love playing is what I guess am trying to say. The only thing that can come close to killing WoW at this point is something that appeals to the unwashed masses, is polished and fine tuned like a game that has been out already for 4 years, and has lots of instant gratification.

i play wow from time to time as a second game to my main game ryzom.

while the wow community is immature to some extend, this is NOTHING compared to what i have expierienced in trying Lineage 2!

after having met a "community" like the bunch of  .....  in Lineage 2, it is not so easy to shock me anymore.

BTW: i do not need a "wow killer" (this term i still consider beeing nonsense, there is no reason to kill games : )  ), i want a sandbox game lake uo2 was intended to become maybe with some things includedthat have been  learned from ryzom or projects like wish.

Edit: statement to wow killer added and typos corrected

IMO, be truthful, be on your best behavior, and see what happens.

100% aggreed!

  1. Stay honest, lying will not bring you much fun (it will almost certainly be noticed)
  2. Do your best to show "mature" behaviour (not leet speach shit talk or nonsense like that)
  3. The you might find out that some guilds will make exceptions to the rule, based on how you behave

Hype means nothing---literally.

- U see a "war" between lovers and haters around foruns, thats a result of a great tittle.

Then I guess AoC and Darkfall are raving success stories.

- Its going to be lunch in NA/EU after 10 months realesed in Korea, 5 months after China, and still call a lot of interest.

Western gamers are alot different than Eastern gamers. NCsoft is about to find that out, regardless how much they claim they "understand" us.

- Will be a new experience of community, some from grinding type game and some from quest type game.

Anyone who's played WoW or FTP games like RoM have already experienced that community.

... and everyone having tried Lineage 2 will have proper expierience with "this community" too.

But yeah WoW is getting old, Aion is newer and has gotten a lot of positive feedback... and a lot of the negative feedback has just been ignorance. Leaving WoW for Aion might be a good choice.. in a couple of year Aion could really be exciting and epic. I guess we will see.

personally i think he is a payed? fanboi because he hails to evrey single piece of crap that the ncsoft company is spitting out:

from aion in evrey facet over gameguard and blah-blah everything this company produces is like sliced bread.

such biased one sided stuff can only be continually pushed forward to nearly every forum by someone who is a FANBOI and nothing else.
