you are not alone *smiles*

i play - and in the past played in any game i played so far - only one single character.

i want to be inside an emmersive world were i "am" actually this character and feel part of the world, so i had never the desire to setup additional accounts.

at the time  ultima online 2 (and after that downfall in the WHISH forum) has been developed i voted for the 1 char per acount limit :)

Why do certain people have such a difficult time accepting the fact that people are enjoying AION? I hate WoW, but I don't doubt that its a good game that is enjoyed by many. Typical AION discussion:

AION player: "I like AION"

Hater: "Why? Its nothing different. Explain why you like it. Why is it better than X Y or Z? Did you know its Korean? I heard there was a grind"

AION player: "I still like AION"

Hater: "You must be a Noob/Retard/Carebear/Shill"

AION player: <Leaves thread, plays AION>

Hater: "I win! He left the thread, lol"

Add in a favorable MMORPG.com review.. voila...30 page thread of this crap, and people complaining about the website. If you don't like the game, and you don't like the website.....uh...maybe find something else to do?

you went definitely wrong here, because:

the discussion is not about a "favourable review" of aion, it is about telling us that aion is the best mmorpg that has ever been developed.

THIS is exactely what many feel is so much offside that the whole credit of this site is questioned.

Considering the mass produced pro ncsoft stuff this same "reviewer" has published, its understandable that there is a healthy discussion!

PS: until now i have not seen the "reviewer" to join the discussion and explain the rating more detailed to us -> why?

Maybe because he doesnt feel that he as to explain his opinion about the game he reviewed to a group of haters QQ'ing a bout Aion being the highest rated review on this site.

or maybe, like some other poster already pointed out, he needs to grow some balls.

I just hit level 45 today as cleric, lol yes level 40-45 is HARD CORE GRIND. And because i am hardcore enough it takes 450 hours of 12 hours grind to get to where i am level 45. From level 45-50 its even harder core then 40-45. it takes about 370 hours of gameplay im assuming. level 40-50 is where you can seperate between the man and boy. its the most hardcore of them all.

If you survived past level 30 you can probably get to max cap but those who are asking is the grinding at level 40-50 harder?

the answer is yes its extremely hardcore harder even heavily grinding you'll ever seen.

levels 40-50 is what seperates us from man to boy.

The questions remains " Are you man enough to grind to level 50?"

lol.

thanks for the laugh boy this one was good !

The main complaints about the review seem to be two main contentions that I agree with.

1. Does Aion deserve the best rating of any MMO on this site?

2. Does the reviewer have a positive bias towards Aion that goes above and beyond the normal amount of bias for a reviewer?

As for number one, I would say that after playing many, many MMOs and Aion to level 36, that Aion certainly does not deserve the best rating out of any MMO. It is a ridiculous claim by even the biggest fans of this game. However, this reviewer has chosen to give the game the best rating an MMO has ever received on this site.

This brings up a serious question about how credible this reviewer is. There are really three options.

1. He was completely unaware about how MMORPG.COMs ratings were delivered in the past and gave his own personal rating. This would tell me that he is completely out of the loop when it comes to what this site offers in general when it comes to reviews. He is possibly very young. Or possibly very new. This is unacceptable for any site that wants to consider it's site credible.

2. He thinks this is the greatest MMO of all time. This is a real possibility. However, based on him saying that it is basically everything we have seen before, I do not believe this is true.

3. He is a shill for the developing company. (I would rarely ever even think this is a serious option, but after reviewing the various reviews he has done for the game for various sites, it's hard to deny there is nothing there).

These are 3 very depressing options for me personally. I have basically been a lurker on this site up till this point. But I have to say that this review is embarrassing for this site and it has really given me perspective on how much responsibility this particular site would like to accept for it's reviews. Which is going to end up causing me to move on to others at this point.

agreed 100 % :

this "review" reads like a payed? fanboi advertisement rather than a real review.

the "reviewer" does not join the conversation and explains to us all why this game is the best mmorpg released up to the current point in time!

this guy needs to grow some balls, as some other poster already stated, if he thinks this is the highest development in mmorpg-development he should say so.

skimming through the large ammount of pro aion/ncsoft stuff this "reviewer" has mass produced, this "review" is not only close to meaningless its counter-productive to the game as a whole!

Don't worry about NCsoft giving all their love to the east. Every patch they get we get. All the attention they get we get. Its just for once your not playing a western developed game. Normally the west gets the patches first then a few weeks later they are out in other parts of the world. This time around the east gets all the patches first and we receive them a few weeks later.

I personally prefer this deal as we get less buggy content.

This is very strange!

You are employed with MMORPG.com how can you freely state claims here about another company's (NCSoft)  way of running their business?

Are you in any way involved with NCSoft?

hm so there are 4 posters saying it does not work and you created an account today with one post saying it works.

hm honestly speaking i do not trust you.

in my opinion not a good marketing strategy

A poll conducted at AionSource has received over 1,000 votes and reveals some pretty telling statistics about how the population is feeling about Aion as the game nears its third week mark. The poll asks players if they will be renewing their subscriptions after the first free month, and as of this writing roughly 59% of North American players who answered the poll said yes, while only 9% say they will cancel.

The poll results can be viewed here.

So, how are you feeling about Aion at this point? Have you decided whether or not you will be renewing your subscription after your free month is up?  I'm also trying something new, and have added our own poll to the comments section of this story. So vote and let us know your thoughts!

ok here are my 5 cents:

the poll on aionsource is close to meaningless because it is an aion related fansite. the participants in the poll have not been selected randomly amongst all aion players.

Do what I do, Stay away from the linear trash and play the quality games that offer large immersive worlds not small maps with mini-games.

No need for a post like this since all of the good games are still available

Metal you never cease to put a smile of my face.

i feel very much the same *smiles*

as in metal's signature: better to live in those worlds than to play some linear crap or asian grind with which we are spammed over and over again.

That's right, you heard me, I logged in for no other reason than to bitch and moan. So what's my gripe today? Hang on, I'll get to it.

But first let me ask you guys something. Have you ever eagerly awaited a sci/fi or fantasy movie or TV series and then when you finally see it you discover that it was cutsyfied to appeal to little kids and it ruined it for you? Ok, hold that feeling in your mind because it pertains to my gripe on this fine day.

Today I'm going to be picking on D&D online although this could surely apply to a large number of games.

So D&D went free to play and I thought to myself, "Might as well give it a try." So I did that yesterday. I didn't really expect much to be honest but there's always that little part of my mind that hopes for something good when I try a new game. That little part of my mind conjures up vague images of pulse-pounding adventures, desperate touch and go fights, exploring an unknown world, and other good stuff.

Alright, let me get to the main part of the post. I made a barbarian and loaded into the game. Some guy (npc) gave me a rusty ax and told me where to go. I had no real choice because there was only one place I could go. I suppose this conveniently eliminates any chance that I might be too stupid to find my way. So off I go, following the yellow brick road...er...whatever.

Oh, look, barrels and boxes along the side of the road. Whack 'em and money falls out. Um...what? Who the f--k would leave money lying around in a barrel on the side of a road? And why didn't those NPCs get pissed off at me when I whacked the barrel right in front of them and took the money which was presumably theirs?

Oh, crap, old roleplaying instincts and common sense are messing me up again. Sometimes I forget that I'm in candyland. Ok, I told myself, just whack the pinatas and take the candy...er...money..and shut up. So I did and continued on my way to see this npc I was told to find.

"I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderfull wizard of Oz", I sang to myself as I followed the road collecting candy...er..money.

Very quickly I found the wiz...er...the npc. "Blah, blah, blah follow me", she said. Okie dokey.

Now at this point I'm in a dungeon, right? Dungeons are supposed to be scary places filled with dangerous creatures, right? Hey, the npc said so and she wouldn't lie, right? But you know what? It wasn't scary and the creatures weren't dangerous. It was just whackity whackity whack and they all fall down.

A new song came to mind and I hummed it as I slaughtered the hapless, helpless creatures. "Ring around the rosie, pockets full of posies, ashes, ashes, you all fall down." I felt kind of sorry for the poor things but I guess I was expected to kill them so I did.

When we got done with this dungeon the gal (npc) who led me through it had a reward for me. Oh look, it's a firey ax!

Oooooo, shiney! It's all firey and stuff!

Really? A flaming ax? Right out of the gate? Oh, wait...I'm in candyland, sometimes I forget.

Ok, so then I was in a village. It was the typical sort of thing where quest giving npc's stand around with neon signs over their heads. They all wanted to tell me where to go for some reason. I guess I must look stupid. So they gently told me where to go and sent me off with a pat on the head.

Yay! Adventure!

So I did some more dungeons....whackity whackity whack...."Ashes, ashes, you all fall down."

Going through those dungeons there was never a moment of trepidation on my part. Never for one second did I think to myself, "Hmm, this could be dangerous." And even if I had died I'm pretty sure I wouldn't lose anything so what is there to be afraid of even if the creatures could hurt me. I suppose they make games that way so as not to hurt anyones' feelings. I mean, you wouldn't want some little kid to get his ass handed to him and NOT feel like the worlds greatest hero, right?

/sigh...oh, sorry...I mean, um...WEEE FUN! I'M A HERO, I'M A HERO! LOOK AT ME MOMMY, I'M A HERO!

And each time I finished a dungeon/quest a nice npc gave me some more candy. Oooooo, shiney!

Well, I could go on with this but I'm sure you all get the picture. This is just another example of where we are with mmorpgs today. We're not in dark, dangerous worlds full of real adventure. No, we're in Candyland.

so you think this is somhow special and related to D&D?

you can enter every newbie zone in almost every other game and you might expierience the same.

so what is the point of your post? ultra mega hard uber newbie zones???

Leveling up in Aion was quite painful for me, never have I completed such boring, mindless quests, I think I enjoyed leveling in WoW more TBH, the feeling of grind and repetition was so apparent in Aion and the theme park style walls killed it for me.

how is it any different to wow, in the end you have to kill stuff repeditively to level. same for all mmo's.

NO, you are wrong here. considering the 18 pages of this thread there is definitely an annyoing grind. i do not se 18 pages of a grind related thread in any other game so far.

If RMT's in the MMO Genre are the status-quo, why do developers continue to deny their approval behind a thin cloak of "random bannings".

My theory: They make way more money off the Subs and new games the gold sellers buy then they ever could by just offering an official RMT service. Also... RMT games don't sell nearly aswell as P2P. Whats ironic about that fact is we're all playing a P2P game for the larger scale and seamless environment, but also to avoid F2P games that survive soley on their RMT system.

If Aion developers really wanted to rid their game of RMT's why don't they start by banning every single character advertising currency RMT's in-game.
Well... thats exactly how they would start. If they wanted to.

Correct. If they wanted to.

At the moment it's a win situation. Don't expect measures except to clean up the image.

thats the point. its like in lineage 2 (the first and last game i tried fron ncsoft):

they have proven to not beeing able (or willing) to come to terms with botters and gold sellers regardless wether they use gameguard or not!

after reading through the posts of this thread i think i would have liked the pre CU SWG. The skill tree some posters mentioned here remind me of UO2 wich unfortunately never happened after i wanted it so much.

i have never tried SWG, but seeing nearly all sandbox/skill-based games going down or away makes me feel unhappy.

A recent patch to Aion implemented a crude but temporary fix to address the rampant gold spam taking place in Aion: The Tower of Eternity. The patch disallows characters under level five from sending whispers, similar to general chat which also maintains this restriction.

Having never played Aion, roughly how long does it take to hit level five? Do you think this change will make an impact on gold spam? Or will it simply serve to annoy legitimate players? Let us know in the comments!

considering the huge amount of discussions on the forums here, this "fix" simply has not solved anything.

but alas, ncsoft did not get to terms with botters and goldsellers in lineage2 (the worst thing i ever tried) and here they do it no better.

I gave it two weeks. I already am bored with the game and am coming to loath it completely.

All the flaws I talked about before launch have been amplified and confirmed after playing it for way too many hours the last two weeks. The game will be a niche title in less than six months, with subscription drop off after month two to rival AoC or WAR.

The entire game design is a confluence of bad design decisions that come together to make a game that few will find enjoyable as time goes on. It's almost as if the game was engineered to draw people in, then spit them out until there are few people left.

There will need to be server mergers, which may seem ludicrous with the recent queue times, but the drop off will be fast and furious.

There are many, many flaws, but for me the biggest one remains world design. The main world is too linear and far too small. The Abyss is horrible, feels like a total "theme park" and is a very poor implementation of a cool concept.

The character design is awesome. The class design is solid. Great armor and weapons. Great mob design. Decent enough game engine, sound, music, etc... They just failed on over all game concept and world design. What a waste of potential.

They announced server transfers will be available next month. If you think AION will be the next AoC/War then you fail. It will not it offers a far more solid experience than either of those at launch. Much like myself most of those players are busy playing... not coming to the forums... this is my first trip to MMORPG forums in some time I stop in once in a while as I have for 6 years.

Everything you said WOULD be true if you put the amazing "IMO" in there. Instead you displayed your opinion as fact or the opinion of everyone which is most certainly is not. All MMO's are a THEME PARK... it's simply how you look at it. All mmo's cater to a certain playerbase... People cried I WANT CHANGE! Darkfall came out and it failed... That Chronicles of Spellborn.,.. failed and pretty much every mmo since eq2 and wow failed if you listened to people on the forums. Yet each of you have a game in mind that isn't fail even if someone else on the interweb forums says it does.

your statement

"Everything you said WOULD be true if you put the amazing "IMO" in there"

is plain nonsense as its obvouis that it is his opinion.

who's else opinion do you think he utters?
