WAR had its chance, and while perhaps reasonably successful from an Indie Developer point of view, EA  is never going to be satisfied and won't waste any big money on it.

I agree, to an extent, but some other factors have to be considered
A) Bioware was given/accepted responsibility for being the direct boss of the Mythic camp
B) Bioware will now be (while not in the fans eyes, but in the corporate structure) directly responsible for the outcome of Mythic's handling and ultimately WAR's attrition.

I think it'll be less of a "reboot", but Bioware will certainly step in and stop Mythic's "everything is a huge joke" type of developing, and bring focus to the group.

WAR could be brought back to a point of being a 500K sub game. That likely be its peak, but even still that would be good for the game. But the large, sweeping, half assed changes that Mythic has been making w/ each patch over the past year has to be addressed. Hopefully, Bioware will bring that studio to a level it should be.
Not having a live MMO developed is one thing, but developing solid products is somnething Bioware does have exp w/.

Wow, hyperbole much?   Hemorrhaging subs?   Issue 14, the most recent one, added a whole lot of new and returning accounts to the game.   I'd say, sir, that your knowledge is quite out of whack and out of date with the current facts.

No hyperbole.

Everything I listed is my obsewrvation from my experiance, and what I've seen from the community. The amount of people that are leaving the game FAR out weighs the amount of one-monthers that I14 brought.

Pop on my server, Justice, has gone in the crapper between the mishandling of the PvP system, and further w/ the mishandling of the consequences for an "oversight" (bullshit, they ignored what they'd created) by the developers of the AE.

I can't speak for you, but the game is a far far far cry from the dedicated players I'm used to seeing. Players are leaving the game hand-over-fist.

Cox has been ruined?   Ridiculous.   True, there were some recent complaints about PvP changes, but this game isn't at all focused on PvP.

And for a game that allegedly "struggling", they recently tripled the amount of employees they have and have a second paid expansion coming out shortly.    In 5 years the game has had 14 (soon 15) FREE updates (Issues they call em) and one paid expansion.

So far, I've seen nothing in either DCU or CO that makes me want to jump ship.

Bullocks
1) They added that staff 2 years ago when NCgarbage bought the title out right. They've been hemorrhaging subs since then
2) The recent debacle w/ DELETING characters they deemed "exploited" (even though ithe ability to exploit was brough to their attention in fucking beta AND left on live for 1+ months) has made many many many players leave. Instead of taking the time to investigate if the player really had exploited the AE, they blanketed everyone under some time constraint (the details of which have never been released) and mass deleted toons. There are quite a few people, that used their "pact" system, and leveled characters, only to have the character who leveled quickly w/ the shared XP (who leveled through the hard work of a friend under the mechanic they created) deleted unjustly.
3) Yes, 15 issues. 11 of them in the first 3 years under the small dev team, and a measly, and IMO subpar 3 since then
4) The game is now Sub based AND chock full of micro transactions since NCcrap took over. No half educated player would allow a game to play both sides like that. Most people are becoming more and more irritated with it.
5) Additionally, they are seeing revenue through in-game ads (that aren't intrusive, but still revenue) and players are seeing a minimal return.

CoH has gone to shit, and it's sub numbers show that. Even their "Going Rogue" expansion has been rec'd w/ less then stellar results. People are just tired of the arrogant and dismissive choices the Dev team is now making.

I've been searching for something engaging, but not overly time consuming to play while at work and avoid... well... work.

This game is pretty good. No DL. Easy to get into. Free (well, item mall, but still) and pretty fun.

If you're like me, w/ tons of time and a boss that isn't that concerened w/ what you do during down time (but won't allow you to DL anything onto the work PCs ... grrr) this is a great time filler.

yes

Progression, combat, space flight or not, gear, UI, levels vs skill, PVP, player economy, crafting.

Less fluff please. /snooze … wake me when they’re done hyping to reactionary types, and start to talk about something important.

You click a thread that states it is a class reveal in the title yourself so you obviously felt it was important enough to chime in.

I didn’t even read the article. I’m just tired of the sensationalizing of the game. Like it’s some bloody shock that there’s a storm trooper (equivalent) in the game. The graphics and/or artwork do not justify an “awesome game”.

We don’t know piss about the game yet.

I bet your one of those guys that demands the MMO company give information by the truck full, the company does it, they end up not being able to deliver, and then you piss and moan because "They lied and deceived you"

shut up and let them run their own company. The info will come when it comes. They have every right to hype their game to get as much money as possible. They'd be idiots if they didn't try to get as much profit as possible.

a business is a business is a business. Just because it happens to make MMOs doesn't alter that fact.

You're a little short bus rider, huh? I'm not belittling Bioware's release of info. While, thus far I'm dissappointed (w/ factions, and faction specific classes), my issue is MORE with the COMMUNITY. To many people are ready to crown the game king and they don't know dick. They claim it's going to be awesome. Based on what exactly? A track record for great console/PC games? An IP? Some screen shots? People are fucking idiots.

Oh, and try reading what my post refers to before frothing at the mouth b/c I'm not running around behind every TOR info leak w/ a  chubby like you, Squirt.

So, until they release some actual information regarding my intial post, I'll let short sighted, hyperactive, easily impressionable, sniviling mots go ga-ga about something they know nothing about. Have fun w/ that, Cap.

Well, I have faith in the developers, myself. I mean, it's BioWare, the company that pretty much single-handedly ressurected the Star Wars franchise from its stagnating descent into mediocrity (Masters of Teräs Käsi, anyone?). There hasn't really been a single BioWare title that has disappointed me yet, at least to the point where I found no enjoyment in it at all, which is good enough for me.

BioWare has the game down pat. But, we'll have to see if they can handle the world of the internet, outside of simple multiplayer servers. If they can handle the responsibilities of making an MMO, such as all the trappings of a large subscriber base and any difficulties inherent in any MMO, then I think they'll be fine.

I think the main thing they have to shoot for is a strong launch. Delay the game for as long as you want, as long as when the game finally comes out, it's primed and ready for most things thrown at it.

Delays are temporary, but mediocrity lasts forever.

This is always a point people bring up, and I think Bioware is awesome in what hty've done so far. But....

A) as you state an MMO is worlds away from a single player RPG or platform game

and more importantly...

B) they're housed under Electronic Arts now. King of the meddlers, and the Fuck-things-up-ers.

I agree whole-heartedly. B/c you used ^ this term. There is a ginormous amount of potential. My point is that people are claiming, w/ the little information that has been released that the game IS (like, definitively) going to be huge. It reminds me of the same type of comments that were being slathered all over forums just before AoC's launch.
It just drives me crazy that people can throw so much faith into something they know so little about, and further have NEVER played a millisecond of. If a professional football team that was very good at running the ball, changed their logo and said they had this insane plan for a throwing game that would revolutionize the sport, but released very little info on it, how can you claim they'll "win the the Super bowl"? B/c they have some fancy artwork and told you so?
The outcome remains to be seen. I certainly hope the game is great, but from what we know so far, anyone that claims this WILL (definitively) be the next huge success, or further compares it to WoW is, imo, a total and complete dipshit mouth breather.

*applause*  Good for you, don't bother to read the article, wouldn't want to confuse yourself with the facts.

Fact is - SW:ToR is shaping up to be THE next big MMO, and unlike gimped abortions like  AoC and WaR, SW:ToR will actually deliver on what they promise.

As for being a WoW "killer", probably not, WoW will remain a Legacy favorite for decades, but among current generation MMOs that matter, SW:ToR will surpass WoW.

LOL, you try to jab me by saying I don't "bother with facts" yet, you state your mindless, uninformed opinion, just like every other rabid ADD child, with ZERO facts to support it.

List for me what you know, FOR A FACT (not heard form a guy on the forums. Links to OFFICIAL confirmation) about this game other then the names and look of a few planets and classes? Go ahead cool man dude, prove to me how your immense knowledge base about the game play and it's mechanics can show us all it's the "THE next big mmo".

Until then, sit down, eat your veggies, and learn the term "deductive reasoning".

This game gets better and better with each reveal. This game is gonna pwn the rest of the industry and will  truly be the next-gen MMO boys and girls. Lucas Arts and BioWare are making history again. Mark my words, this game will be the one to beat when it comes out.

You drew that conclusion just from a class reveal? lol chill out.

I'd have to agree with him though. I think the top upcoming MMOs are going to be Aion, Guild Wars 2, and this game. These games will be WoW's main competitors I believe.

LOL. Here's this statement, made by someone, on this very day, last year ....

I'd have to agree with him though. I think the top upcoming MMOs are going to be AoC, WAR, and this game. These games will be WoW's main competitors I believe.

Same shit, different year.

I’m in the boat of “it’ll do”.

I personally like the look of environments a lot. And I’m not against the character models (especially after the maglightsaber revamp). But, it’s certainly not the thing that’ll put the game over the top for me.

It’s decent & acceptable, but if the features aren’t worth a dick, why take a hit in visual quality? I know we don’t know much of anything (other then storystorystorystorystorystory) so, I’m still reserving my final judgment. To make one based purely off graphics, they’re certainly not of a quality nearly good enough to be the deciding factor for me to play if it came down to it.

What a horrible Idea!

How exactly? They're giving people who are utterly dissappointed w/ the changes to there class, to the point where they don't want to play it any longer, to create a new "main" and be 62% of the way to the cap from the word go. How is that not good? It's not a free 80. There's still an amount of work to do.

I think it's genious personally. They're giving people not only to stay with the game, but try new classes w/out the early leveling (and sometimes difficult).

I see there are different mounts for AoC. Mammoth, Horse, Rhino, and I even heard there might be a Dragon mount. Can everyone obtain these? Are there special mounts that only a certain amount of people can get?

1)  Horses come in 3 variations - Normal (or beginer), Swift, and Armored. Armored allow less knock off and swift are faster. Both the latter are expensive though. 100 gold I think. Normal mounts are 1G. (75 S +25 S for riding training). Also, make sure you look at the varity of colors around the stable master for the one you want.

2) Rhinos and War Mammoths were pre-order items you cannot buy. I've watched for a rhino code on ebay, and they seem to go for around $50. You CAN watch for the various contests FC does to win the itmes though, but all-in-all it's a slim chance.

3) If you buy the game right now, you automatically are awarded a Snow Mammoth (and riding training, and an bag extension!). Though you can't use the mammoth until 40, like the other mounts. the bag you can use right away.

4) I never heard of a Dragon mount at all.

Found these for the guardian. That's the class I want to play but I hear its not good for pvp. Are they an import role ingame otherwise?

PvE - you'll be maini tank on everything. W/ a good raid leader, and efficant healing, you will not die.

PvP - dmg is negatable, but only if they have a healer. You won't be slicing heads off like a barb, but you also don't go down quickly, if at all. Even Casters will tab right past you, b/c it's not worth their effort. 4-5 people gang up on you, and then you'll go down quick though.

But if someone could post some endgame gear pics that would be great :D

Heya! go here - http://aoc.yg.com/
Under the player profiles, you can filter what kind of player you are looking to see. Whether you want to see just your server, class, race, w/e. filter by names, or even gender. Then, to see most of the end game PvP and raid gear, filter the PVP rank column. Then look at like the first 5-6 people. You get an actual visual of the player and their gear. It's awesome.

OT:
It's fun, fast, and furious. There's tons of shit to do, and with a good guild, this game has loads of content for the average to semi-hardcore player (20-25 hours a week, IMO). for me, having a decent system, and being able to play the game on high settings makes every new experience that much more exhilarating. I'm constantly (like daily) in awe of the landscape and creativity of monsters, spells, areas and dungeons.
I just did my first Amphitheatre run the other night. So far, it's a "can't miss" dungeon. It's not to long, but the coordination, and events in it are second to none, IMO.

So im reading this review, and for the most part, the reviewer nailed the problems, and got the good aspects of the game down. So how in the hell is it a 8.4 or whatever? Honestly over 50-60% of the review is going over most of the real problems the game has, yet it got such a high score?

Agreed.

I quote: "The performance has markedly improved over the last few months, but improving from horrendous to bearable is still unjustified given the visuals. The game is easily bogged down even on excellent rigs. When I looked at screenshots of the game before I got into it, I remember reassuring myself that even though it looks like it was bleeding edge in 2003, at least it would run blazing fast. I was dead wrong."

How could ANY game be referred to as a great PvP game when responsiveness and performance is "...bearable... and still unjustified given the visuals..."

The game lost a lot of players because of these issues.

Your worst oppononent is not the PvP enemy but the lack of responsiveness in spells and controls. You do the spell, but did it hit, Y? N? and when?

MMORPG's based on PvP MUST have the best responsive controls and combat animations or else it is NOT a PvP skill based game.

I am quite convinced this is the issue why most of those 600.000 players left War in 5 months time. And I don't understand that a score of .... 8.4 could be given at a "horrendous to bearable" performance.

Even at this very moment Xfire stats show a downward trend (even with or perhaps even because of the 10 day free trial).

Some justification in order here for the reviewer !!!

+1

And then some –

This game isn’t AoC for graphics, so how the holy hell does it have such insurmountable performance problems SEVEN MONTHS after release?

That’s just baffling to me. I won’t even get into the design choices I don’t like, but w/ design, you take the good w/ the bad. But faulty performance and hardware … in this market, with what this genre has been through in 2007 & 2008… I just can not wrap my mind around it.

We’re not talking about a little lag or a small rubberband. We’re talking EVERY. SINGLE. CITY SEIGE. Every one of them having lag and unresponsiveness. From a P4 rig, to a new i7, it is NOT a client side problem.

Yet, this studio has the time to create new mounts, pets, and trials, and an event every month?

It’s gregarious, disingenuous, and downright ignorant to treat your community w/ such reckless regard.

This game was built around large scale PvP encounters. Where does their tech fall short every single time?…. Large scale pvp encounters. Seriously? WTF?

If I start reading about how the game performs flawlessly in Forts and City Sieges, I could very well return. But no amount of new content, classes, revamps or even class balance changes will ever supersede the fact that game is just barely playable.

5/10 at best. As is.
