I can't believe that piece of crap is supposed to continue the legacy of Star Trek. That's all i will say.

What a sad affair.

Ha. Same here. I played about 5 hours total since invited in Oct. It's a mess. Boring on Rails Online is what Cryptic should just call all their games. I can't wait for Atari to shut them down and laugh at their pathedic attemts at creating games.

oh man, I was going to leave this post alone, b/c it's just some one stating their opinion like all others, until the last sentence which is a flat out, bold faced, friggin LIE.  Can you list off the SIGNIFICANT progression? And crafting doesn't count. it's seperate part of MMOGs, not solely associated w/ end game.

Originally posted by gandales Then you might consider going back to WoW. In all honesty, most games are being release half done because nobody wants to invest money in a volatile consumers like mmo players. It was written on game informer long time ago that companies won't make huge investments because the market is pretty much taken, so most of the new games will be based on catching people on release and keeping on minimal life support. No matter who is to be blamed for that is the situation that probably won't change for 5-10 years.

sorry to disappoint, but I don't & never have played WoW (beyond a few trials). You're broad generalization that people who expect more for there money are all WoW sycophants, is appreciated though. I like people who low blow b/c have little else to offer.

OT: It's certainly not my fault that they don't want to spend money to develop things.
Money or not. I'm not responsible w/ my wallet to coddle half-assed development. I'm not required to say "hey pals, good effort. You'll knock it out of the park next time. Here's some cash to help you along the way" Hell eff'n no.

Further, it's not like I'm the only person that's appalled that this game was no where near the standards of what MMO players expect nowadays. They CHOSE to release they game in this climate, in this market, at this time. If they can't produce some thing that competes with what's STANDARD out there, they be damned the person that isn't vocal about the misinformation and elusive marketing. It's not only telling them what I think w/ my wallet, it's letting everyone know what I think and trying to save them from the same deception.

a generation that feels a great deal of entitlement.

anyone that pays $50 and $15 a month or some cases $200 (and until after 13 months) is entitled to bitch til their heart is content. If a business can't take the heat, get out of an already saturated pool and stop releasing half-thought-out, shallow games full of imbalance and broken promises.
What you call "nerd rage" I call disgruntle consumer w/ no way to recoup lost money spent on something no where near where expectations where built up to.  The minute they offer me my $50 back, I'll never troll their game on any site again. Until then, it's buyer beware, and I'm making others aware.

Oh, I'll speculate...

After a free 13% of the month given away to anyone w/ or w/out a retail box, and being able to barely scrounge a total over 2000 people online at one time, I speculate what's "next" for CO is closing down. Who gives a shyte what they add? There's so much MISSING from the game, it's hardly and addition as much as "catching up to where it should have been for a release client".

The last two, no. At least not at launch. To difficult  to pull off w/ an emerging community, and may just be taken as out-of-context by everyone. Those are more personal to the writer, then to the IP as a whole.

The rest though, dead on. It's a shamne that a developer hasn't created a game w/ the care and depth that Star Trek deserves. B/c lets be honest here: w/ less then 3 months to launch, we're pretty much getting what's in beta. And at 3 months to launch w/ CO, it was still regarded as it was launched: clunky, unfinished and shallow. History tends to repeat itself.

There's a reason people are up in arms about the game. I can't go into specifics, b/c of a legally binding contract, but I will say that CO felt rushed and it's a bumbling mess now. Star Trek is an IP that deserves care and solid development.

....... if people were dissappointed in the development & launch product of CO, there's nothing new to see w/ STO.

Fail. Miserably.

First, the patcher was a broken piece of garbage most of Friday and into Sat. But, even once I finally logged in, I notice there was hardly anyone there. I shrugged it off, and went to level my 23 that I’d shelved b/c every mission was +2 or more to me. I search for all this increased content… fuggin nothin. I go to every crime computer contact, and see every quest giver. They’re all still +2 or more. I finally land in Canada and see some new additional repeat quests. “Sweet” I think… no. “Defeat 150 of X” repeatable quests. Are you kidding me? You invite me back to see some lousy half assed grind quests? Jesus, did their devs and marketing dept really think that was the missing piece to their abysmal retention? Awful display of “pride of ownership”. Cryptic is quickly becoming the new $OE.

change it to a free to play model with an item shop

^ This.

W/ potions that increase token drops, XP, Talismans, and a variable other plethora of items they could make a cash shop for, this game could thrive. But, like the above poster said – the shallow PvE experience, repetitive RvR and the requirement for large active populations, it's just not worth a monthly fee.

Can you lay out how I "obtain" the costume pieces & the emblems?
Not every, smart stuff.
--------------------------------------
Yes I can, I earned cryptic points in game, I  can then spend these points on anything in the store. Another poor attempt at miss information...ask your mom to help you with the next post.

LOL. You're very misinformed or stupid.

You can't earn Cryptic points in game. You earn perk rewards, which are not associated w/ the C-store items. Or, you were credited C-store points for your early access or pre-order from the merchant you bought from.

You can not, however, earn c-store points ingame, by any means. My mom would be able to tell you that, Genius. You should quit replying now while you look only misinformed and not yet on the side of moronic, sycophantic fanboi.

And I really love the dis-information spread so quickly, the C-store is an extension to what you can earn in the game, each and every item has an in game attainable avenue

Why would anyone pay to participate in this game's higher tiers?

That's exactly my point - you wouldn't. And if you did, it's your choice.

At minimum, by going F2P it'd leave them w/ no less revenue, and 2 or 3 times the amount of players. For every sub they have now, they'd likely get 2-3 players willing to pay $5-$10 every month or so. There by, doubling or tripling their population. Which is what tthe game requires more then anything else (as far as how it's fun, not issues w/ design or development).

Would you return?

Personally, I think it’s the only way I’d be willing to play the game again. I’d be enthusiastically willing too. I just can’t justify $15 a month for the current iteration of WAR. But, if I could pick and choose $5-$10 when I wanted, and not feel forced, I’d be a very happy player for WAR.

Considering that War, by most accounts, if a fun game in “bursts” would this be a pricing model that could ultimately bring populations and revenue up for WAR?

Is this even feasible under the EA banner? They have Battlefield Heroes (which isn’t an MMO, but is completely F2P) and it’s a pretty nice success. Can WAR switch pricing models and be successful? Would it be an admission of failure in the eyes of developers and players, and the industry as a whole, or would people feel this would be a revolution for the game? Improving the game for the long haul?

I think that currently, WAR has the perfect game for MTs. With items like armor tokens, powerful pots, time restricted talismans, WAR could certainly see a LARGE resurgence by going under the MT based model. And all the while, these things are still attainable in-game. Keeping people from being a MT warrior.

I just think if they game really revamped itself under this pricing model, we’d see a huge turnaround for the game, even if in a casual player setting. WAR doesn’t have the depth for a lasting subscription (for most) so why couldn’t this work?

Discuss.

Lots of content in this game.

you're kidding right?

I guess your definition of "lots" and everyone else's (including proffessinals) are mirror oppisites.

You can't play through this game one time w/out doing EVERY single quest avail. And even then it's lacking. Shit, even the devs have acknowleged the game has gaps. You need to check your blind fandom at the door, kiddo.

Interview Mark Jacobs right now "off the record" and he will tell ya the truth..maybe..

eeeehhhh.. no. MJ is a big part of the problem, IMO. He was the owner, and he green lit the "quantity over quality" design choices that drove the game to the state it was in Dec-Feb. I think if MJ was "off the record" interviewed, we'd get some spoiled brat answer like "EA didn't show enough support"

social issues and economy? How fuggin out of touch can you be about your game? Forums are NOT thread after thread about that shiz. It may be a couple of threads about that, but it sure as shine ain't the "top 2 issues"

failhammer, indeed.

I honestly see two options for WAR:

1) Die in the success or failure of SWTOR. - either way, makes WAR, EA and the RPG mash-up group look bad.
Or
2) Figure out a viable F2P Western/European module that will actually work.

That's essentially the only thing they can do. Mediocre improvements and delusional changes (armor looks? seriously? least of you worries here, Mythic) will not bring players back after the (even more mass exodus then we’ve seen) Aion launch.
Time to put up, shut-up or shut down.

A lot of people that I know are saying they'll revisit the game down the road. But as-is it's far to lacking in content, adn WAY to many knee-jerk "balance" moves on powers being made. Which wouldn't be bad if there were a relatively cheap way to undo something that's worked for a week, but is now rendered all but useless to their playstyle.

should be really interesting to see where CO is in 6 months.

My irritation is at the reviewer. The tone of most of his post is that he thinks the CO devs are idiots, and he's saying it when he himself can't get the facts in his tiny initial impressions review straight.

Another strange line in this review is that the devs created the launch day patch with "no feedback", when in the next paragraph he outright says the patch was created using accurate feedback from the players that the game was too easy. So what's the gripe? That they didn't get feedback on their response to the feedback? That they didn't delay launch so they could get feeback on the feedback on the feedback?

Sorry, the whole review is a dog wearing a cape.

Um... I don't know if you're being ignorant on purpose or aren't reading it correctly. He's saying they patched on launch, and gave no feedback on the day of the launch. There was no warning. There were no patch notes. And hours and hours passed before an initial response was given by the devs.

That's a completely unaceptable approach towards your community in the opinion of most people paying money.
