The main reason sandbox mmorpgs don't appeal to the masses.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/26/10 9:53:38 PM
You must never have ever played a sandbox game to think that that is even how sandbox games are. Here is the correct answer: Because no company has gotten it right yet and the big names don't wanna take the chance. The best mmo and top selling mmo of all time will be a sandbox mmo. All we have to do is wait until the right person gets told how to make a sandbox properly, and makes it. |

Why aren't more Sandbox games being made?
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 5/11/10 11:03:09 PM
Because the few who have tried made shitty games and the big corporate types see that and think that means the whole idea of sandbox is faulty. The only sandbox to ever really get it right was plagued to death with bugs and an all around garbage code base. It can be done, I have a few in my head alone that could compete with WoW. We just gotta wait and hope to get lucky. |

Because you couldn't figure out how to install a game? rofl, alrighty. |

Make sure you download the demo client, not the regular client like I did. To get the demo access on your account you have to download and install the DEMO client. At the bottom left of the page the email link sends you to it has to links to the demo client. |

General: Blizzard to Integrate Battle.net and Facebook
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/05/10 10:40:54 PM
Now I know why MMORPGs have gotten progressively worse since the first gens. It's not longer a scene for hardcore rpg nerds, it's a scene for popular hip socialites. |

Wow, that's.. so Orwellian. It's disgusting in it's oppressiveness. A discussion board where you have to walk on egg shells with your own statements is a useless discussion board. No offense to mmorpg.com, I love the place, but I have a deep-seated hatred of the state that heavy moderation leads too. |

why is this game so high rated?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 4/22/10 12:55:12 PM
You mean to tell me that I just wasted all that time reading all the text of someone who bases a game solely on graphics? The opinions of people who care about graphics don't even matter! You could have given me a warning or something, man! |

But then haters won't have anything to point to as "proof."
But then fanbois won't have anything to bitch about. |

If you are using a hand held controller to play an mmorpg then one of two things sucks. Your pvp skill or your mmo. |

You make a f2p item shop game, and put a $15 limit per month per account on that item shop, and I'll play it. My question: How likely is a game dev to do this? My vote: not a chance in hell. |

The reason why people prefer F2p over P2P
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/03/10 12:09:21 PM
The only people who prefer f2p over p2p are people with a bunch of disposable income who enjoy beating people more than then enjoy a challenge. Remember Brucie from GTA 4? He prefers f2p. |

Shadowbane. End of story. Anyone who disagrees either never played it or pussied out before really getting into it. |

World of warcraft - game of the decade.
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 1/01/10 11:49:28 PM
As much as I hate WoW and what WoW has done to MMORPGs, it is the best MMO ever made.
I haven't given up hope that another good mmo will one day be made. |

Star Trek Online: Exclusive: Jack Emmert Talks Klingons
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/21/09 11:47:18 AM
The people in charge of this game are idiots. Why is there even a time constraint on a freaking MMO? Do these people detest the idea of making money or something? |

Having to see in giant letters... "PVP FAIL!!!" on top of a Shadowbane screen shot every damned time I come to this site is an absolute disgrace to the greatest pvp ever to grace the world of MMORPGs. Shadowbane was an absolute success in every aspect other than graphics and engine quality. It was the developers who failed. The game was VERY hard, and VERY unforgiving, that means that the vast majority of people who tried the game left immediately screaming failure. Those of us that stuck with it were rewarded with the only mmo made so far to feature real pvp. Then, it was taken away from us by a garbage company (ubisoft) wanting to focus on the kiddy gamer market (consoles) and what do we get for our suffering? We get people from the majority that failed at Shadowbane getting the right to plaster their biased, uneducated slander about something VERY near and dear to our hearts all over the front page of our favorite MMORPG website. Thanks MMORPG.com, thanks. EDIT: There is probably way too much QQ in this post, but dammnit, when you live constantly in an ocean of people who call you a fool because THEY were too shortsighted to see the one and only MMO that has succeeded in what every online RPG since the fist mud has tried and failed to, and then see crap like this, it hurts. |

General: Jennings: How PvP Can Break Your Game
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/16/09 9:37:29 PM
Sorry, but if you can honestly mention Shadowbane and "pvp fail" in the same freaking article, then you have absolutly no idea what you are talking about. All it means is that you were one of the people too ignorant to understand Shadowbane, who left without giving it a decent try because of the steep learning curve and unforgiving world. Shadowbane did NOT fail, it was by far the best mmo foundation ever laid. Shadowbane was a groundbreaking success in every single aspect other than graphics and engine quality. Shadowbane did not fail, the people in charge of Shadowbane failed. We are but a handful of months away from Shadowbane's relaunch now, and it will be better than ever. Maybe now that people are finally starting to realize the absolute pointlessness of modern day cookie cutter mmos, they will give a REAL mmo a second chance. |

What is the main critique from trekkies?
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 12/16/09 1:54:26 PM
It wouldn't be all that hard. I know EXACTLY how to make a Star Trek mmo that fits the IP perfectly and would be fun as hell, and would be everything ST fans have always wanted, and wouldn't be any harder to make than any other modern MMO. I only got about two more years till I get my CS degree and get started on the path that leads me to the head of such a game. Just wait, it WILL happen. :P |

This Tman5 is right. When it comes to IP vs fun, I've always said; "Umm, are you trying to say that our IP isn't fun already? Are you arrogantly assuming that we have been sitting around watching Star Trek all these years going; "Ya know, this is... OKAY, but it could be a lot better."? No, we are Star Trek fans because we actually LIKE Star Trek." It's like when the new movie came out. I was like; "Do you honestly think we've been sitting around all these years watching Star Trek and thinking; "This is cool and all, but it would be a lot better with more explosions and motorcycles!"?" Though, I did eventually watch the new Star Trek and enjoyed the hell out of it. :P |

Thanks, I'm proud of that one, lol. Anyway, to answer the second part of your question, come around? I'm already on board. It's Star Trek ffs, of course I'll give it a whirl. I may be very disappointed that it doesn't seem to be being developed as awesomely as I would have had it developed, but still, I'll give it a go. |
