And let's not forget that Drew Karpyshyn, lead writer of KOTOR, and writer of the Darth Bane trilogy of books (not to mention Mass Effect 1 and 2, and the books based on those games) is working on the SWTOR team.

Prepare yourself for an MMORPG experience more immersive than we've seen since the inception of the industry.

Immersive in the fact that you hear people talking, but wait till that ends, one of the reason people like games like Mass effect and Dragon Age si they are the only hero. MMOs story in this aspect of a persistent world will kill your own immersion. waiting for the mobs to respawn or picking something up just to see someone nabed it right before you its too killer. WHY?

because you DO NOT work together

the game doesnt want you too, it only wants you to work together for the hard quests, that the big issue with the questing problem, if the game makes YOUR character THE MAIN character in the story. you know these people exist, and once you are out of your nice little convo (which i assume most people will skip once they are on a time limit or just want to get something done). It is a huge gamble, and if the masses enjoy it, congrats to bioware and this game will only add to the list of good games they have put out. But an MMO is not a single player game

Immersive in that you don't just "hear people talking", but have an active conversation with the quest giver(s).

It's not A: listen to quest VO, B: accept or decline

This goddamn NDA is driving me crazy. I would love to be able to explain just how wrong most people's concept of SWTOR is.

Also....ASSUMING that "your character" is going to be the "main character" is a rather large assumption.

woah there, but in the end of the convo you GET THE QUEST.  no matter what you told the man, if his son is lost, it doesnt matter if you tell him your son is dumb or if you say his son is your hero and you can't wait to save him, you still have to go get the son. becuase you want the exp and the reward.

You're assuming that the converation is simply a means to a predictible end, one that is arrived at regardless of the choices made in the converation with the NPC.

If that were the case, then "choice" would not truely exist. The end result would be inevitable.

We already know that this is not true, based on released information.

Now...WHAT IF there were MULTIPLE "quests" or outcomes of the same conversation, and your choices in the dialogue determined which route you proceeded on, or maybe none at all?

This is the problem...people are assuming that they understand how this game works, when it is very likely that they are completely incorrect.

Choice does exist, and i am not denaying that but the extent in which the choices branch its what i am truly questioning, for is it unreasonable to assume that per class there is a single main story where by the majority of quests are the same no matter which side you choose, the world based quests will be the same, as the story of the world must develop according to the story the devs wish to tell (this I am assuming but it seems clear this is the path bioware is taking).

thus the replayability is diminished based on the world quests (which will be more plentiful as the game can not be majority story quests) and if that is true and unique play through is limited by faction. In simply tearms the only way you will see a completly different story is your first class and playthough on each factions side.

It's about the journey, not the destination. Thats why each class has its own storylines. Perhaps you shouldn't rush to endgame?

Single player RPG's are for that. Not MMORPG's.

If you believe that, then do everyone a favor and avoid SWTOR at all costs. It's definitely not for you.

SWTOR is not enough MMO....doesnt foster the community doesnt want players to be together unless in instaces or flashpoints or raids.

Yeah 17 planets full of fedex quests is addictive. LOL I think not.

Did you research that while making a fedex inflight delivery or something?

50+ full length novels worth of written dialogue put into narrated storyline is not a fedex quest.

It can be if all that dialogue boils down to 'go there, get this, come back'.

or 'kill me 10 rats'

The amount of dialogue or how it is delivered has nothing to do with the actual 'quest' you end up with.

It actually has everything to do with it.

Whats the point of "dynamic events" if all you end up doing are kill X amount before time runs out?  Or,  "collect 10 X" to complete the event?

Aside from that,  there are a lot of "dialog" quests that determine what you are doing or how  you end up doing something.

To explain it as simple as possible,  its the difference between a random kill X quest,  and a decision that could change or shape what you do next.

If you want to break it down into just the very basic form,  you could pretend that everything is just a kill quest if you wanted to,  but if you did that,  GW2 would be a game full of kill quests too... so how far do people really want to discredit BioWares awesome quest system?

It was awesome in NWN, ME, KOTOR etc.  but now that its an MMO ... its...  "17 planets of fed ex quests"  lol.

you are assuming that lightside and darkside points effect the main story line as well as sidequests (worldstory). now I try to not pretend i know anything about the game, but im sure bioware is not making content that is not ment to be played. now while one may go lightside or darkside all i can see if having different convos......BUT IF THE END RESULT IS THE SAME, then it doesnt matter.

I highly doubt that what side fo the force you are on determines the "type" of quests as this will cause bioware to make really almost 2 games per class, if you are a saint or an ass you will still need to kill ten droids or collect 5 power supplies or travel and talk to this one dude.

you bring up GW2, now this is where my logical fails me, you say it is full of kill quests and that once broken down it (at the quests main core) is the same. However, in GW2 all quests (aside from personal story) are group quests (at the core) and those affect the world around them. such as what merchants sell or the weather of the zone you are in.

without phasing you wont see this in TOR,

im not saying one is better then the other at all, I plan to play both games as i am a Starwars fan and a Guild Wars fan (both have rich lore), But i also do my reaserch and think with my mind.

Yes, but when you drink the speical grog that is dropping for this event it will cause you to talk like a pirate.  Its the only alchol in the game that will make you talk like a pirate (without you controlling it).

i know, i was simply stating this for those who don't know

From what I've seen, this won't revolutionise shit. It's a small evolution at best. Again, it's a traditional MMO with emphasis on story and dialogue. If people are tierd of WoW, Rift and the like, this won't change anything.

Besides, releasing during this holiday is suicide. I bet most people are more hyped for Skyrim.

100% completey agree with that. Nothing new here.

You seem to know a lot about "evolution". Why how fast it's supposed to be.

Sideras is simply pointing out that many people think this VO is CHANGING quests, in which it is only changing in which one accepts quests, not the core of the quests itself

Guild wars has had the pirate options as a language pack for the entire game for a while now.

Asura, they only thing they have a common with gnomes is that fact they are small. Asura have a much different society. In all honesty they wouldnt even work with each other, but they do because it helps with their own inventions and its for selfish reasons. Rata Sum was and is built based on trial and error and "one uping" the top dog in the field that one asura is working in because you need to be the best.

VO is great and yeah it makes the quests have a new feel, but if you are still doing the same old quests is it really different?

do you think VO will make players listen? it wont stop those rushing to max. it wont catter to the PvPers. Honestly I have played TOR at the shows and cons and my personal opinion on the matter has declined the more and more i try it out.

I thought at first it was a whole new way to tell a story, and it still is, but i alos thought the questing would change, but it really hasn't. The game feels like a hub to hub game but i heard these voices once in a while.  I may be wrong but I really don't know

people man. lore is so big in GW as a true fan of the GW world/lore and of Jeff Grub (lead wirtter) this lore is grand and the creation process of these races which while all fit into some genertic catagory, have a great and unique back story and the creation process is a result of that coming together and the stories giving artist the best picture to draw from.

this isnt trying to be DAOC...its trying to be an MOBA with an MMO feel..and trust me it works..well

despite the team behind it being legally insane and Mythic having so little direction that EA kicked a few bucks their way to grab them up. the game is trying to be a little different....think of fury...only PvP but there isnt a grind or anything time spent into it the game plays like an MMO

next server downtime it will launch

The Guild Wars happened in the lore of the world. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Guild_Wars  it was a big deal

dissapointed that guild halls will not be in at launch. Anet seems to be stepping away from the "GUILD" wars aspect of the game. NOW WAIT, before this gets out of hand, let me explain. Anet has yet to show a strong support for pure GvG in GW2, yeah we have hot joinable pvp (awesome) and guilds being able to take keeps and outposts in WvWvW (awesome DAOC style) but even in GW1 i see the live team fading out Hero battles and Hall of Heros in favor of random arenas (well halls was gone once it was no longer needed for favor of the gods). NOW with guild halls coming post launch that means any good form of GvG (yes i believe that the greatness of GvG was going to other halls and having to use the strat of that hall in the battle) will have to be post launch.

with that being said I do think the rest of the game is in the right direction and having played the demo for myself (with a smile on) i know that this game will be strong and TOR has nothing on it. but again, the movement away from guild pride and guild pvp is sad.

I have the feeling that the first expansion will be a lot about guilds.

But MMOs are a living breathing world and I guess we can't expect everything to be in from launch.

ohh i agree and im sure the nuts (fans) over at guru feel similar, i see the first expansion similar to Factions, heavy PvP focus. and I do understand that trust me in the end i would rather have all my DE works and skills fire properly, but it makes me sad knowing that I wont have a guild hall to go to.

Not sure if everyone is ready for the day when your leet dungeon gear doesnt do one point of damage extra to someone you are trying to gank in PVP. But thats whats cooking.

and i love it!

Skill > Gear

PvP is going to be awesome!!!

not to mention that PvP gear wont have some bulls**t stat that makes you better on it

guild wars has a /wiki comand that brings up the wiki page for easy viewing and you can even /wiki (name) and it will bring you that page, this however is a comand that simply brings up your default browser, it is easy and really useful, i see no need to put a browser in the game window.

yup  and why split the pop let those who PVE , do it and those who want an open enviroment to PvP....do it mkae it happen

A population of those who want to do PVE and PVP is split anyways, otherwise it is forcing both sides into doing something they don't want to. So yes that is why SWTOR has PVP and PVE servers.

tbh i was just poking the bear...but relating it to the point of those who claim that GW2 PvP isnt true open PvP
