They are gonna be added post release :D There was an interview where they said this, but I can't find it at the moment :s

And that's all we know for sure.....

There have been a lot of rumors though that the guild halls would be in flying airships as can be seen floating around the spires of Lion's Arch, but don't get too excited!

Already saw this on reddit :p

But it's still a nice example on why Anet is my favorite company :) What other company would do this?

I bought the game and played some beta, but sofar I see nothing special with this game, ok, it looks good runs good but mostly boring quests and everythin you do is more or less same as you did the quest before. Ok I have only played till level 25 but why do they not make it fun? it is just plain boring.

I think it is what people hope it to be rather then what it is. Players always hope "the next game" to be awesome and hype it up beyond anything, then it releases and the rage begins because it did not live up to the expectations. Seen it before, will see it again

Err is it wrong that I feel offended by this post?

Excuse me for actually PLAYING the game and really liking it a lot. I hope you aren't  talking about that aborted WoW-clone called SWTOR, cause last thing I remembered that game had an NDA close to a month before release and Bioware didn't listen jackshit to their Betaplayer feedback -_-

When was gw2 NDA lifted? somewhere around april (or close to that, don't remember exact date)

Does Anet listen to beta feedback? Yes, they actually do as proven each time by each following beta

So sorry for finding this "next game" awesome and finding no reasons why it wouldn't live up to MY expectations

Then why is everyone so annoyed when somebody only play the starter areas? They always say "Get off the starter area. Hearts aren't dynamic events. It's not so easy. It's gets harder beyond that, etc, etc".

Because they come here with the thought that hearts ARE dynamic events, which they really aren't.

They come here bashing the "dynamic" system, while they are instead bashing the hearts and that is why we get annoyed.

If their mindset is to rush to levelcap by only using hearts, they are playing the wrong game and gw2 really isn't for them.

Half an hour with a new and supposedly different MMO in BETA and you know for certain if it's going to be any good at relase?

You're a liar - and I have no time for liars.

I didn't say it's gonna be good at release -_-

I said that if I play a Beta of a new mmorpg and it doesn't catch my interest in the first half hour I won't bother with it. If an mmo gets through this "preliminary" round It can still fall flat on it's face

My point being that determinating a WoW-clone doesn't really take that long and if I don't get some enjoyment out of the first 30 minutes, I'll most likely never get any ejoyment out of it.

Why would anyone play to 25 if it is plain boring?

If you played, you played as a WoW fanboi and used it's mentality to just to level. I have played every BWE and the stress tests and only got to level 19. I'm not saying you didn't play but I'm calling you out on how you played.

What a bunch of bullshit.

With the genre and a game with this ridiculous level of hype - it's natural to want to play for a good while, so you can be sure you're not missing all that greatness everyone is talking about.

Heck, I played TOR to level 50 - because I wanted to finish the story which was middling but OK - but I never enjoyed the actual gameplay much.

It really isn't a bunch of bullshit,

Half an hour with any game and I would be able to tell you if it is good in my opinion.

If the foundations supporting all this "greatness" are whack, then I won't bother with the game, simple as that..

Well said. But you are wasting your posting time it's still NOT a sandbox so "it can't be amazing" for many people. For some obscure reason only Sandboxes can be amazing

By definition, it actually is a sandbox game, because you can do whatever you want to do, when you want to do it. Nothing else is hidden behind the term sandbox.

Have to pick you up on this, .GW2 is not a sandbox game lol

There we go again....jeez

Definition - What does Sandbox mean?

Sandbox is a style of game in which minimal character limitations are placed on the gamer, allowing the gamer to roam and change a virtual world at will. In contrast to a progression-style game, a sandbox game emphasizes roaming and allows a gamer to select tasks. Instead of featuring segmented areas or numbered levels, a sandbox game usually occurs in a “world” to which the gamer has full access from start to finish.

A sandbox game is also known as an open-world or free-roaming game.

from: http://www.techopedia.com/definition/3952/sandbox

Guild Wars 2 IS a sandbox according to that definition -_-

And you do have full access from start to finish, you just die if you go to a zone that is too dangerous for you

Another one who confuses renown hearts with actual events -_-

Why oh why did you put the hearts in Anet???

Was this a necessary feature? I could be wrong but I didn't think loot from dungeons and such was characterbound on equip? Or is it?

Some is, some isn't.

Even still there is A LOT of armor in the game that is bought, and I know I personally would've liked to have seen how some of that looked before I bought it.

I definitely bought a few pieces with karma & glory, only to immediately regret the skin (the stats were fine, but I found myself desperately trying to find something to transmute it, lol)

Must have been too early for me lol.... In that way it makes sense lol

This is probably the riskiest of MMO threads ever made but I'l willing to brave it, if you beat me to it, so be it I will creatively change a similar sounding character to retain said name. (These only apply if Anet allows for an open naming system)

I plan to name a Sylvari Swamp Thing.
I plan to name a Asure Yoda.
I plan to name a Norn Hodor.
I plan to name a Charr Meowmoo.
I plan to name a Human either Alt or Generic.

What are your names?

These names are soo generic :O

My names? lol I'll tell them post-release if you want..hehehe

Indeed, it is only the log-in procces that is region locked

I wish I could say the same.  For me, 2012 has been the year of going back to old mmorpg's.

I'm beginning to think I"m the only person who isn't excited about GW2.

My mmorpg future rests on either ArcheAge or World of Darkness.

I'm not excited for GW2 either. If there's one thing I've learned about MMO's, popularity and hype are clear indicators of a short lived game.

popularity is an indicator of a short lived game?

And what hype?

noun

5.
exaggerated publicity; hoopla.
6.
an ingenious or questionable claim, method, etc., used inadvertising, promotion, or publicity to intensify the effect.
7.
a swindle, deception, or trick.

from: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hype

Everything until know wasn't exaggerated :) Nor was it a swindle, deception or trick. The mechanics they promised are actually in the game and thus aren't questionable -_-

Hi, I've never played GW1 and I always wanted to play a MMORPG. I love WOW but I want to try something new, similar gameplay but new enivoriment. Kotaku was giving out 200 beta keys but I was not lucky enough to register on time so I am asking for your opinions of this game. I've read reviews of GW2 but here are some questions that I have:

1) Is the game linear like FF13? Or open like WOW?

It is open like WoW..and I would even say it is more open than WoW..with all the dynamic stuff going on and the WvWvW

2) I know GW's endgame is mostly based on PvP, let's say I enjoy PvE more, will there be an endgame for PvE players? ie: group up with friends and do PvE?

Yes there is a lot of endgame for PVE. Please make no mistake: Both PvE and PvP are equally represented in this game!

Pve Endgame: http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/b/324689481

3) I read that the layout the world map is huge, are there a lot of secrets? Like the cow, pont lvl in D2, D3?

Yes the game has a large portion that is based on exploration and secrets..like jumping puzzles and hidden bosses

4) How are the lvling and quests like? I heard it lvls real fast and end game grinding is all about the cosmetic of your outfits? Are the quests like WOW?

No the quests aren't like Wow. The questing mechanic is dynamic meaning that you can go out in the world and see a village getting attacked by trolls. If you leave them be, the village is destroyed. If you deafeat them, the villagers will thank you. But almost never will there be a quest NPC with an "!" above its head!

Please add anything that you find the game interests you~  Thx!

for more information go to: wiki.guildwars2.com

and yes this game is gonna be awesome :) Everything intrests me in this game

There you go :)

Sounds like a great game element... for a single player game.

Actually I find the way Anet implemented it, a great game element for an mmorpg

The fact that they are quite short, can be ignored and anyone can join your experience are definitely positive points.

I'm curious..how else would you implement the RPG from mmorpg in an mmorpg? And I know that some ppl like to RP by themselves but that aspect is very much limited

Forced on-rails gameplay, as many of you know from my posts, is my biggest dread in an MMORPG; I feel that some devs just cannot let players play their own characters, a control freak thing they have.

And so, I hear about this "personal storyline" thing and think "here we go again."

Someone please explain how it works and tell me if it's an on-rails mechanic or more a recording of player history as you progress.  Thanks.

The personal storyline in GW2 is a branching instanced adventure telling the story of your character which anyone can join.

The different chapters are also very short which contributes to the fact that personal story in GW2 doesn't feel "forced". Together with the fact that you can actually TOTALLY ignore your personal story if you want.

Also it isn't really an on-rails adventure as you, as a player, have a big influence in deciding what the next course of action would be...

Your progress is recorded by making subtle changes in your home instance which is neat as this gives the feeling of a truly dynamic world. (In your home instance that is :))

But if you don't like it..don't play it! You can go through the entirety of gw2 without ever touching your personal story!

I can't wait to create one for the upcoming betaweekend :)

2) Moving forward, what do we need to improve?

You seem to focus too much on one capture point (the mines), which is logical since a lot of action is going on there. But would be nice to see what was happening with the other players...

Secondly In a domination type map it is imperative that the viewer knows which points are captured by which team. At this moment it is almost impossible to see who is holding what. (The player can see this easily but we as the viewer cannot)

3) What things in general would you like to changed in the sPvP scene? I will focus on bringing visibility to these things in my casts

Well:
-Spectator mode
- GvG

But they are both coming post-release so...

I can only say that this is really weird...

Was there really a need for this kind of system? LOL do you really need mentoring in WoW?

I also don't how this will recruit more players? I as an outsider won't hear anything from this Guild mentoring system..
