I'm not sure what's happening with WAR. I've made so many accounts that I just feel like giving up. when I click on my desktop icon it gives me the login name and password which work. It starts downloading a small patch and then gives me an error saying unable to patch try again later. This has been 4 hours now. Is it because I dont have an account billing set yet? my account says all of the codes are entered....OPEN BETA, CE Headstart, Bonus ingame item. The links say something about creating another account. What for? I already entered my codes and they haven't given me another set to enter. I created an account on EA's website which is where it took me to when I hit a link for Mythic Account managment when it says register new account. After having different accounts and sub accounts within the master accounts I try to log into the customer support to ask a question (since they don't have forums to bash them) and none of my account names work with their passwords to get to customer service. The links work to ask for your password and login name to be resent to your email. After clicking on this it says my account has been locked for too many attempts to login for 30 min.
TRULY UNORGANIZED
I Blame EA any help? |

Asheron's Call 1 is the crown jewel of the sandbox mmorpgs. If you disagree then you haven't played it.
Although I understand that everyone's first mmorpg usually turns out to be their favorite. |

Mob's also gained levels....A Crystal Lord spawned outside Fort Teth and it took hundreds of people to finally kill it. There were corpses everywhere. During the mayhem he leveled from 600 to 601 I'm not sure the original level though.
Skills were capped at a certain point. When you hit 210ish most of your skills were maxed out. The top level was moved a few years ago from 126 all the way to 275ish. I remember putting too many xp points into my jump skill and would always plaster myself into the wall above the ledge I was trying to jump to. Although it was nice being able to jump to the roof of my villa :)
I'd go back in a second if there were enough people to make it feel like a mmorpg again.
Showing off your maxed character and all your uber weapons to a town crier just isn't the same. |

You all forgot that getting buffed by higher level characters created a community within the game. This along with the Patron/Vassal system was the only reason there was interaction between players. I agree with just about everything the OP says. I will add that AC3 also must have...
Item Loss Death Penalty, Patron/Vassal system, And Carbon Copy the entire AC1 weapon/ armor/ item inventory. Nobody has come close to matching the different looks and combinations your character can wear. Being able to buy things from a vendor that another person has just sold! This also was a fun pastime. Also bring back the lugian character type from AC2 that could build walls and turrets and such! it was a blast!
Ac3 Must not have.... Bind on Equip items, Instances , Macros , Cookie Cutter skill trees, Level caps, and that freaking white rabbit!@! |

Creating another AC1 style game wouldn't be very hard at all. The things listed here are the foundation for AC1 and what made the game fun for me. The major areas of the game that need to be replicated are as follows 1. Random Loot System - Truly the meat and potatoes of any game and especially AC1. IT WAS THE ONLY REASON FOR PLAYING. *(excluding Darktide) It provides the base for the economy, quest system, and character advancement. Having a character that looks different from everyone else is all that it takes to make alot of people happy. The only games that could be compared with AC1's loot system would be DIABLO 1 and 2. 2. Limitless Character Development - This has been the downfall of almost all MMORPGs. Why would a company who charges you monthly create a point where the game ends for most people? They are being lazy and uncreative. We all hate cookie cutter characters, but it is easier for them to balance out. Putting experience points in a skill you want to advance wins out over picking a new 'power' every time for me. I hear EVE has had success in this area. 3. Death penalty - at one time or another we all hated corpse runs, but if dying doesn't matter then what does? Loosing treasured items upon death is the only solution for this. This is the main ingredient in having a PVP world. Darktide would be nothing without the fear of this. 4. Social system - there is alot to be said positively and negatively here about AC1, but truly all you need is an incentive for helping somebody else out. ANYTHING that encourages people to interact with each other is a positive. Also having a place where everyone socializes is a plus. ( remember the hub or sub depending on your server) 5. Random terrain generation of items and MOBS - Running around in the wild finding plants that you needed to dye your armor , or finding a Diamond Golem that drops a Diamond Shield are the best examples of what I'm talking about here. Exploring created a never ending way to pass the time. 6. Quest system - this isn't as big a part as the others but the mold that holds them all together. You can explore for items to start out quests which gives you xp to advance your character and combines people socially to complete the quest. AC1 did awesome with this. My favorite part were monthly updates that generated excitement every 30 days and made you feel like you were getting return for your monthly fee. 7. Crafting - this wasn't my thing but was for many. It was done right in AC1 because they combined all parts of this game to come into play here. I'll explain... A crafter had to explore, kill, and socialize to create something useful. You needed x amount of potions from a store halfway across the world combined with something found from completing a quest combined from something found from killing a MOB. There are many more things that made this game great, like being able to dodge incoming spells and arrows. Fighting endless hordes of olthoi, but I believe these things are the heart of AC1 and why we all were there. |

I don't know why I keep coming back to these boards. I must be a glutton for depression. I played from 99 till 2002. The game was a true addiction. You thought about it 24/7. I have gone back a few times and maxed out a character when they opened up the new server. Sadly I have never played on Darktide. It's the one thing I missed out on. I've played all the major games since I left. Alot of games had great this or that, but nothing came close in the overall package. I truly believe that your first MMORPG is like your first love. There will be nothing like it ever again. I'm just glad my first love happened to be AC1. This is the reason WOW will be the future and beyond of MMORPGs. They hit stride at the right time and everyone and his mother literally joined and experienced a different type of social gaming. I also believe that another AC1 type of game will eventually be made. There are enough people in this world to support more than one MMORPG. AC1 is dead. They could make it free and alot of people would come back, but that wouldn't make any sense for Turbine. |

Very easy...Try Asheron's Call
The community is small but it is an awesome grindfest. Picture yourself standing with your back to the wall and trying to fight your way through a sea of deadly Olthoi ( similar to the creature in the movie Alien). For those of you who played it is easily the best hands down. Most of the rest were playing Everquest.
The community is small. Try it for free. It will keep you busy until WAR or AOC is released |

1. Asheron's Call 2. Dark Age of Camelot 3. Ultima Online
Anyone see the pattern here? The best have been around almost since the beginning. I'm not sure but I think another common bond would be death penalty/ item loss. It isn't much fun when dying doesn't matter.
If you haven't voted Asheron's Call number 1 then you haven't played it.

I really don't think Turbine would have a problem with it.... they shut it down. Besides they took everyone for a ride when they put out an expansion a few months prior to detonation. Why wouldn't they give out the code or whatever it is to start up a server? UNLESS they have future plans for an AC2 relaunch. Otherwise lets tell turbine to give back to those of us who miss AC2. I would even play it knowing that there would be no future content updates or upgrades. New content updates were probably half the reason AC2 was closed down. It is a big investment to put out new content. Turbine could start a server up and allow free play to AC2 for all those who subscribe to AC1. This is exactly the stuff Turbine should be doing to keep interest in the AC franchise. |

There are many private servers running mirrors of Wow and other MMORPG's (probably illegally). Wouldn't it be a blast if we could start up AC2 like these people are doing? What would it take? |

If you all loved ac soo much then why aren't you still playing? Why would they revamp a game that nobody wants to play? I loved the game but the reason I don't play anymore is because the worlds are empty. You cant have fun in a MMORPG all by yourself. I go back every few months and get my fix and quit again because of the lack of people. They recently have started banning accounts for using macros. Only buff bots and trade bots are allowed period. Could this be the sign of finally trying to clean house before moving forward?? I was in the guild with the guy who kept El Tank going and even he has quit. |
